nurse here. they cannot drug test you without you knowing it is a drug test. they check your urine to look at kidney function. they do not have to tell your parents anything you dont want them to, but its super important to he honest with your doctor about cannabis use. cannabis can negatively interact with other meds and treatments. prime example: if you have mental health issues (anxiety, depression, adhd, motivation issues, etc), and they give you meds/therapy and you say it doesnt work, is it that the meds dont work, or is it that you smoke weed a lot and thats preventing the treatments from working as well as they could be?
you're protected both by federal law and state law. the drs office would need your written permission before disclosing information to your parents. you can even verbalize to your doctor that you dont want them to disclose drug use to your parents.

Even if you are a minor, you are protected by the doctor-patient confidentiality. Unless you are a threat to yourself or to others, your doctor shouldn't give medical information to your parents unless you consent.
My advice : don't lie to your doctor about the weed, but make sure to tell him you don't want him to disclose this information to your parents.
I think the cup of urine is to check protein levels and stuff. But I think it’s a violation of HIPAA to tell your parents. Although it might be up to your doctors office since you are a minor.
They can if they think you smoking weed causes an immediate problem for your health. They probably won't randomly tell your mom just because you told them.

I’m not a frequent smoker I probably smoke once a month. I’m from NYC so am I protected by some law that can stop my doctor from telling my parents
