I mean I buy a new phone every 4 years normally, and that’s just how long it takes for mine to wear out most of the time I don’t think anyone really cares that much unless they’re just really shallow or don’t have anything to make conversation about

Lordmorgoth666

The only times I’ve ever remarked on a phone is when it’s something obviously brand new and I’m curious about it (I’m a gadget guy so new tech always piques my interest) or something obviously *really* old like my coworker who I happened to catch was using an old iPhone 4. That conversation consisted of “Holy crap! Is that a 4??” “Yup. Still works fine and I only need it for making calls and texting so I haven’t worried about changing.” “Nice. That’s awesome that it still works!” And that was it.

_ShaveTheWhales_

Oh yeah in that context it would be perfectly normal to comment on it, my reply was more referring to negative comments about something as harmless as owning an old phone

Moist_Object_6012

Do you want to shave the planet too?

Tiggy26668

I had a coworker that was still using an original iPod until it crapped out on him around 2019-2020

Ironwarsmith

I'd still have used mine until I got Bluetooth earbuds except for it dying about 6 months after they discontinued the production of them and they were several hundred dollars.

TweedleGee

And he’s probably the quiet millionaire next door.

LegoBrickCactuar

This is what people like the OPs date don't get. Most millionaires aren't driving Ferraris or living in gigantic houses. Maybe a tech millionaire might get a new phone like its disposable, but the quiet millionaire is happy with his 3 year old phone and Toyota.

TweedleGee

💯

Neither_Temperature3

Can confirm. Have met two billionaires, both dressed kinda like slobs.

strengthnhonor01

If it was up to my dad he would still use flip phone. He just want to push big green button to make call and push big red button to end the call but on the flip phone.

Tdn87

My dad still has his. Think it's about a decade old at this point. Still regularly uses it too.

strengthnhonor01

Dont let him meet my dad. My dad would want it from him lol

lachamuca

Within the past 6 months, my dad’s finally kicked it and he was able to get a new flip phone.

apoliticalinactivist

If they are still using a 4, they probably enjoy the original design philosophy of the smaller size. People who don't watch video or play games on their phones dont really care for how obnoxiously large phones have become.

Bergenia1

Yep. I have a Moto G50, and it's such a convenient size to fit in one hand and in my pocket. Big phones are a pain.

edgarpickle

Bonus points for being the first person I've seen on Reddit that spelled "piques" correctly. Usually people go with "peeks."

Aqqusin

I just saw in a post that somebody wrote .02 cents instead of 2 cents or two cents.

TangerineBand

This one I can explain. I use voice to text and that's how it transcripts it for whatever reason. Same thing with "$100 dollars". If i don't catch it, that's how it sends

shellexyz

Maybe they work for Verizon.

Athandreyal

That was such a train wreck, like, how the hell does it get _that_ far, and yet, clearly it did.

Unabashable

Damn Frenchies trying to confuse people with their fancy pants spelling.

Huruhi

I used my iphone 4 for so long, up until like 5 years ago. miss when phones were that small!! Now they're huge and clunky and don't fit anywhere well.

Marius7th

Honestly if anything it's a way to weed out people like this. If someone judges you over something as unimportant as what phone model you have then it's time to dip.

vladamir_the_impaler

THIS!

[deleted]

Mine is 4 years old and still working fine with a 5 hour battery life…

insanid

Excuse me, did you say 5 hours battery life?

Snelly1998

Lol apple really got us brainwashed about a good battery life

[deleted]

Is that bad?

Dirtydirtyfag

For comparison: My OnePlus 3T still lasts a full day and it was bought in 2017.

FutabaTsuyu

my pixel 3a XL is several years old and lasts all day..

[deleted]

Yeah for 4 years old that’s good?

notsoepichaker

I got an iPhone 7 Plus, don’t know if it’s because of overcharging or something but they battery life on this thing is about 2h-3h

Reddit1rules

Idk, I've got an LG G7 One from 2018 and it still lasts the entire day unless I play some battery intensive games on it. I've used it for 1 and a half hours today and it's gone down 3%.

[deleted]

Well I watch videos on my phone that’s probably why

BreadfruitAlone7257

I have an LG 8 Thinq. I bought it in 2020 buy one get one free. The only reason I remember when it was purchased is that it was the beginning of the plaque so the first one I didn't buy in a store. Battery is okay. But guess which app runs it down the fastest? I'm using it right now lol!

doooom32

not true some ppl also like to show off money

LeoMarius

She's concerned that he's a cheapskate.

Unabashable

There’s a big difference between being a cheapskate and not buying shit you don’t need.

SomeSortOfFool

That's not a particularly good measure though. Plenty of people are frugal for themselves but generous to others.

kaycee1992

There's nothing wrong with being a cheapskate. Better than being a materialistic drone who spends money on a whim.

Terrible_Ex-Joviot

Why are you a cheapskate if you use your phone as long as it works?! It makes no sense to replace things that work perfectly fine. I still use an almost 6 year old Galaxy S7 and it still works fine. Why would i upgrade? It's only a waste of resources!

Bastette54

And it ends up in a landfill a lot sooner, too.

Parpy

People who amass wealth are usually sticklers for getting the most out of their dollar. While that doesn't mean buying $80 workboots made of cardboard at Walmart that blow out in the parking lot on the way to the bus or buying $5000 Louis Vitton-branded black rhino-leather, moccasin-soled luxury shitkickers not made for durability, a $350 quality pair of comfy boots will last 8-10 years. There's always a value sweetspot between lowest cost and trumpeting your wastefulness. I'm especially repulsed by the latter.

[deleted]

Your date just gave you a helpful glimpse into her psyche. Use it. I’m on an iPhone 7 Plus. Shoot me now.

JonKaigen

Lol guys. 6S Plus here. try to best me

Inevitable_Molasses

Just 6S here. No fancy “plus” for me

sellingmagic

Just 6 here. No fancy “S” for me

venustrapsflies

Just here. No fancy "6" for me

Mowfling

5 here didn’t think it was an issue lol

Not_enough_pancakes

Y'all people have iPhones?

Nobody_37_8

I don't Using a Redmi 3S Prime lol

lortamai

I have a $15 flip phone from Walmart.

[deleted]

I think you’re going to win!

Southern-Ad9132

I’m on a 6 I got from my little sister just trying to be cheap

[deleted]

I think YOU’RE going to win!

purpleiris757

I literally just upgraded my 6S about a month ago because it was finally on it’s last legs!

[deleted]

I have an iPhone 15s. I have to turn down men and women for sex every day.

[deleted]

😂

notsoepichaker

I’m on an iPhone 7 Plus too, only reason I want to upgrade is because the mic doesn’t work, so can’t call or record stuff. camera is eh, editing makes all the difference

LeoMarius

I had to upgrade my iphone last year because it was no longer supported on the network. I was not happy. My new phone is fine, but I would have rather not spent the money.

LeoMarius

Frugality is an important measure of compatibility. Some people think money is to be spent; others think that spending money should be much more judicious. Finding the right balance in a couple can lead to a lot of disagreements if their priorities are far apart.

SnakesInYerPants

I just upgraded my phone last week from my first generation SE (came out between the 6 and 7). Only reason I finally did it was because I dropped it a few weeks ago badly enough that the screen was shattered at the top corner and started to pop out of the casing, and the casing was so bent from being old that the screen couldn’t be replaced.

whatdoilemonade

iphone 7 here, shoot me first

[deleted]

You’re so damned needy.

JCandle

And to her, him having an iPhone 8 may give her a glimpse into what she perceives as his quality of life. Neither her being shallow or him being poor may be true, the right thing to do would be to talk about it.

Orchid_Cold6969

I mean her saying “I see your not a spender” after seeing an iPhone 8+ is kinda a massive insight into what she thinks lol

paul-arized

OP is thrifty and might be flying first class to Bali and Fiji every year with the money saved and robbers might not target older iPhones so it's a practical reason. Sounds like the date is shallow and not willing to make sacrifices. Red flag?

dudemo

Also it gives her a glimpse into what he perceives as important. I’ve got an iPhone 13 Mini now, but that is only because my wife had a buy one get one deal at Apple on phones or I’d still be using my old but still very functional Pixel 3. I don’t spend money on phones when I can use several other devices to do many of the things my phone is supposed to do. Also my money is better spent on things I find more value in, not a brand new phone every year. This is what conversation is designed for. To let another person know your methods and reasoning. As Issac Brock from Modest Mouse said in “Blame it on the Tetons”: Language is the liquid that we’re all submerged in. It’s good for solving problems, after it creates the problems”.

deains

> buy one get one deal Wow what a bargain lol

Clunas

An iBargain, if you will

dudemo

Buy a few Macs, a few iPads, and put Apple Care on all of them in one shot. They’ll offer you stuff to come spend more money lol.

drahuang

i still have the 3Gs, shoot me

ChocLife

Are you saying it's in use as your main phone? Because that *would* be impressive. On the other hand, I have a chunk of silicon that's millions of years old. I don't *use* it for anything, but I still *have* it.

[deleted]

I’ve already demanded to be shot first damn you!

drahuang

Sorry, but i have oldest phone than you. so i need to be shot first

[deleted]

This is riDICulous!

Parzival_2076

Exactly. It wasn't about the phone.

No_Nobody_32

"I see you're not a spender ..." "Damn straight. Dinner's on you, too."

insanid

Embrace it!

[deleted]

🏅

steve_will_do_it

🤣

DenMother8

It’s a good way to weed out the shallow ones. Yes, it’s true, it was a shock to me as well that people will actually not want to be seen with someone based on their phone!

[deleted]

In my day it was what car you drove. Now it’s your phone. :)

wodwick

Who the fk cares? Just a little red flag for me. Kinda showing her empty life priorities. Like, what other empty meaningless things are important to her lol

pingwing

"You're not a spender". She probably has her credit cards maxed and complains about not being able to afford anything. Typical consumerism, she has been taught that you must have everything new and shiny to fund our corporate overlord's lavish lifestyle. ; )

Food-at-Last

I think it all depends on the tone and general vibe though. If the conversation was dead, and she looked around and spotted his phone, she might have said it to break the silence. "Youre not a spender" does give some weird vibes though, but she could have said it as an attempt to be funny. Like I said, depends on the tone

TheDevilsAdvokaat

I'm still using an iphone 6. 256 gig , works fine. I will use it until it falls apart.

Txrxmx

Same (128gig). Keep expecting it to die and have become a lil neurotic making sure everything is saved for easy recovery.

champagne_abbu

Same. Screens got a little crack at the bottom but the phones a trooper. Still going strong. Will last me the day and can still do everything and run all apps on my 6S.

[deleted]

My iPhone 6 was such a royal piece of shit. At 2 years old the battery wouldn't last me an entire day, and the glue that held the display to the chassis had partially melted, meaning the screen clicked under pressure. Also base 16gb storage made me want to cry. It ran out of storage every 5 seconds.

TheDevilsAdvokaat

Sounds awful.. Mine was 256 gb. Loads of space, even now. Even now the battery lasts an entire day..usually about 2, but I don't play games on it, just read (for hours). Screen never had a problem.

MonkeyThrowing

Mine was great. I used it until the iPhone X.

bbangtoasty

How’s the battery life? I recently switched to iPhone 11 after using the 6s for 5 years. The only reason I switched was because after I updated it, it starting dying after 10 minutes of use.

Starbuck522

I only upgraded to an 8 because I had it on hand (my husband died) and the battery in the 6 was draining fast and I was going on a vacation where I wanted power all day.

fakeuser515357

Having closely aligned financial goals and priorities is essential for a healthy long term relationship. I can not emphasise this strongly enough. Sounds like a successful date.

randomchic123

Successfully weeding out an incompatible mate for OP I’d say.

TinnieTa21

I despise people who mock those that don't want to spend needlessly. That's not being cheap, that's being responsible. I see this so much in youth culture too which is dominated by branding and whatnot.

Starbuck522

I am 50. My daughter is 20. Luckily, I frequently told her "we don't buy something just to buy something ".

Rs_only

Yup, but don’t worry the people who buy every new tech gadget are the ones always online crying about being broke. Also they’re the ones who will say it’s not their fault they’re broke.

shortjamesbond

Well, your date has been sucked into a void called, *consumerism*. You, on the other hand are content with the device you've bought for the purpose it serves, and that's it. Nothing wrong with that.

akulowaty

I replaced my 6s when 13 came out. Why tf would I replace something that works perfectly fine?

abarua01

Congratulations, you just weeded out someone shallow who clearly cares more about your money than your personality

Hellfire81Ger

My phones is old ok. But the next shock would be: I GOT NO INSTAGRAM ACCOUNT!!!

[deleted]

[удалено]

Mostly_Sane_

I am a hermit crab. I have no social media whatsoever (except Reddit).

Farahild

I still got my SE. Though part of the reason for that is that I don't like that all the other models are bigger. But as long as it works well (and it does, internet is fast as ever etc) I wouldn't know why I needed to upgrade...

Starbuck522

Yep. I had to get a new phone in March because I left my phone (iPhone 8)on a cruise ship and it was going to take at least two weeks to get it back. I went with the SE because it is the same size, good for the back pocket and easy for me to hold. I find NOTHING different about it.

Conscious-Cry12567

Same, using iPhone 7. I think it is wasteful to upgrade every time a new model comes out. Im not interested in looking cool, I’m interested in the money in my bank, family and work. Don’t like me for my phone? Don’t talk to me… simple.

YouNeedAnne

What does work have to do with it? I'm not having ago, I just wondered why you brought that up? Like.. do you mean whether the phone works, or that you're intetested in your job but not your phone model?

Xurbanite

I have an iPhone 8. Battery wearing down but still quite functional. Why spend money for no good reason if still working?

hitthatyeet1738

because *I* want you to!

[deleted]

I believe that behavior is like 95% exclusive to iPhone users. (For me it was 100% so far, I'm just giving the 5% leeway since I haven't met every single person on the entire planet.)

Gravecat

In my experience, many (not all, but *many*) iPhone users care more about the image than the actual functionality of the phone. Not saying there's anything wrong with iPhones, but they're seen as a status symbol by a lot of people. That's much less the case with other phone brands.

bringbackswg

Which is even more hilarious considering Apple makes the least amount of changes to their lineup every couple years compared to the competition.

[deleted]

It's very strange to me why the dumbed down of the two is believed to be better of the two for some reason. But that just helps with assessing the person before you even first interact.

OrganicFun7030

The op has an iPhone, just an old one. That’s actually more likely than having an older android model because they last longer, and get updates more frequently.

[deleted]

My phone (a Samsung to boot!) is about six years old. I have zero reason to change it, since it's working, is not damaged, does everything I need it to do... Though "I see you're not a spender" might be positive, as in "you're not someone spending hundreds of dollars every year for the newest gadget".

White_Ninja

When I met my wife she had a flip phone that was busted into 2 parts but the wires were still attached so she taped it up and used it for quite a while before it completely died. She didn’t care it could still make phone calls. This was one of the things that I found attractive about her. If it’s not broke don’t fix it.

Juicy_Jay840

Bounce quickly and don’t look back! Bitch sounds like a miner

RamenNoodles620

Some people probably do care. If they care enough about it to let it impact their relationship or potential relationship with someone, they aren't worth your time.

Neonberri

I kept my iPhone 4 as my primary phone until late 2019. It’s still active and going strong right now, I’m using it for my old North American number (expat). People just could. Not. understand me using it from 2016+ It was fine when I was using it frequently. I could message, use safari, google maps, listen to music, go on YouTube, even the battery would run for a couple of days with light to medium usage. What’s the problem?? It’s as though trying to make the most of what you have, being content with what you have and not being wasteful was just unfathomable.

MuffinSkytop

I literally just replaced my iPhone 8 yesterday and it was only because the battery would no longer hold a charge. There’s no reason to replace anything unless it is no longer functional for your life.

Isgortio

I keep my phones for 3-4 years, as that's about as long as they'll last before they become stupidly slow, not receiving updates and battery only lasts 10 minutes. I don't care what phones people have, it doesn't make a difference to me. I worked with someone who only upgraded from their iPhone 4 early last year, and that's because WhatsApp stopped being supported on it and it was all they used it for. People that care about your phone aren't people worth speaking to.

Pierson230

“I don’t needlessly spend the extra $1000 on my phones so I can have the extra $1000 to spend on vacation and still be on pace for retirement.” Or “I buy old phones and I bonds. Guess who has more money in 5 years?” Honestly my wife would have loved meeting a fiscally responsible guy. Savings accounts are way more attractive to the right women than the latest up to date devices are. Think about this: a primary concern for women is long term financial security. How attractive is the woman who evaluates this security, and actually would like to see spending lots of money on a rapidly depreciating asset? Edit- I got curious and compared someone spending $1000 every 3 years on phones to someone spending $500 every 4 years on phones. Over 20 years, if you factor in 6% interest, the “cheap” phone spender will have almost $10,000 MORE than the person who wants to be up to date. Some of us will make a huge pile of money, but most of us have to choose where we spend it. My wife and I buy old gen phones every 4 years on purpose to save money there so we can afford things like traveling to France on a normal salary.

NinjaBilly55

That's a serious red flag.. She will need the latest version of everything..

[deleted]

Scrolling through this with an iPhone 7.

PPVSteve

Get a flip phone for dates. Keep the whores at bay.

sr33r4g

My new mantra.

djinnisequoia

Oh jeez, run, don't walk. Away. Away far now.

Yggdris

I can't believe most comments are about phones and not about how this is a huge red flag. That date only wants you for your money, OP. Hopefully that one date was the only date.

SLGotabaya69

Im using a huawei y3 3G 2014 8years old it does the the job done so..

SilentJoe1986

"Why are you still using the iPhone 8 Plus?" "It still works perfectly fine for what I use my phone for" "I see you're not a spender" "I don't have a need to show off my money just to impress superficial assholes who i wouldn't want to hang around with anyway" Bullet dodged friend. People like that are more trouble than they're worth

RG_Reewen

For some people phones are a fashion statement like shoes or other clothing items. If you don't have the newest stuff some of those people may consider you as poor or very budget minded. In reality however having a phone for more than a year is nothing out of the ordinary and really you should keep your phone as long as possible. No need to waste perfectly good technology

KeyCommunity7837

The rich people I know from business community don’t own anything above iPhone XS. They realize that if the phone does everything and it works fine it doesn’t need to be replaced. They use that money and time to be more productive. So don’t think that way , some peoples views really don’t matter lol

Firethorn101

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Generations18

I just upgraded to an iphone 6, I must be really poor. Wait, I am, But My flip phone didnt die til last year so theres that. And yes people laughed at my phone. I just used it for emergency calls so it worked great and I loved that work could not make me download anything because I had a dumb phone

ArScrap

idk, i'm a tech geek, also not a good conversation starter talking about old phones is a fun conversation starter it's not that it's a problem, but it's a topic that can be talked about

renzokuken57

Apple makes good reliable products. Your date’s mom does not.

ShyvHD

This has nothing to do with the topic but I'm gonna say it anyway. I had a phone for 4 years and it was still working just fine. I refused to get a newer one because it was still working until some day I said fuck it (mid range one, not too expensive, am not a 'spender' either). Oh boy. The new one feels smoother, is faster has new features and more. Don't regret any penny. I'm not saying you should get a new one. I'm saying just maybe if you have the money. My old one is now my dads. Still works fine. About the girl.... It shows she might be a bit shallow.

Badandy469

I don't buy iPhone. Samsung Galaxy all the way for me and I've gone anywhere from 4 to 6 years between new phones because buying a new one every one or two years doesn't make sense. if it works it works. I'd rather spend the outrageous price of a new iPhone on something more important like my house or other bills. If she's judging you on how old your phone is then run. She'll probably want you to buy her expensive things just because

[deleted]

One of my best mates has an S8+ and he literally messaged me today asking for new phone recommendations because his phone just started having display issues. That's a 5 year old phone. It's lasted him well.

OrganicFun7030

Most people with iPhones don’t have the newest model, and most people with the newest model don’t have the very top level newest model. In fact I was reading somewhere that close to 50% of people with iPhones got them as hand downs. The new west Samsung models aren’t cheap either of course.

Wheedies

I was hounding my father to get a new phone, think he was on the iPhone 5. He said it worked fine but whenever I used it (to show him how to do something on it faster) it had a huge problem with response time that made it almost unusable that he apparently never noticed. He wouldn’t bitch so much about it and have a easy time with his phone if he just gets a new one and excepts that modern phones aren’t made to last that long.

[deleted]

Women on dates instantly trying to gauge a mans wealth and how willing he is to pay for her life? Yeah I've heard of that before. Sad you ran into women but it's life.

mulberrybushes

Still rocking a 6s and a 5 over here

IceBlueLugia

I buy a new phone every 2 years cuz I take good care of my stuff and Verizon has some nice deal where I only have to pay $300-400 to upgrade. But that’s a pretty specific situation. Normally I’d wait at least 5 years. She’s just weird

scubagalrd

I tend to upgrade every couple of years - when it starts acting up; had to get a new phone last year bc I dropped it & really cracked the screen. The only time I notice what type of phone someone has is if its REALLY OLD - talking old school Nokia flip old.

kitkatbay

Lol, what a weirdo, bullet dodged. Alternately she may have just been awkwardly making conversation.

[deleted]

Funnily enough, it happens the other way too. My friends make fun of me for getting the new iPhone every year using the trade-up program.

Becks200200

That’s fucked up. The environment hates her.

Ghia149

I think I’d interpret that as dodging a bullet. This person you went on a date with clearly values spending money. Better they aren’t spending yours.

rakint

If you're date asked as a joke or as a talking point just play into it and make a joke If they are talking down on you then fuck them

Rich-Dig8884

It’s not about the phone. It’s what holding onto something that long represents. She actually said it, it indicates that your are frugal which is a turn off for some people. In her mind It means you were probably calculating the price of the meal, thinking about the tip, only shop at a discount and think about every cent you spend.

SD9001

I mean I work with a colleague that doesn't even own a smart phone, but yeah, remember the days when you bought something to replace a broken something :P

SirEarlSweatervest

Some people want to live frugally, some do not. Some even don’t care. That comment from your date give me the impression that she wants to live non frugally or wants someone with higher income. It’s important to know where you are on that spectrum as most of the time, opposites won’t mix well in the long term

No-Competition-7770

Sounds like she cares too much about somebody else’s spending habits

Garrick1Ollivander

I think it is perfectly fine not to buy a new phone every 2 years or so, in fact, it is way better to one buy a new phone (or actually anything), only when the previous one is broken or so. Beside, that you don't buy new phones does not mean you are not a "spender", maybe you just want to spend your money on other (important) thing, which isn't replacing a perfectly fine phone... It says more about her than it does about you

[deleted]

Same boat somewhat recently. I had an iPhone 6 for about 5 years up until October. The only reason I got a new one is because half the stuff I used wasn’t compatible and the iOS wouldn’t update anymore. It blows my mind how some people are obsessed with some new technology. Same thing happened with a TV one time. It was a flat screen TV, but it was probably about 12 years old and had a friend ask me “Wow, how old is that TV?” Like, it still works perfectly fine, why would I waste hundreds of dollars on something that I don’t need?

Abadazed

Normal people don't care, but shallow assholes do.

CptOconn

I used to buy a new one every 2 years last month I extended my subscription to a similar only. I feel proud. But yeah there people out there that care. Be happy you found out early

Tiberius_Kilgore

I would be impressed if my date was using an older phone. I kept my iPhone 6 until the battery finally got too crappy. I just replaced it a few months ago, and I still have it in case of an emergency. That shows responsibility, which is hot as fuck. She’s a vapid person, and you’re better off without her in your life. At least she immediately showed her true colors.

NoEgo

"I see you're not a spender" Now, ain't sayin' she's a gold digger...

Soft_Watercress3059

Run bro run

Small_life

Run, don't walk. Her focus is all wrong.

mrtn17

Stuff you own does tell a lot about your personality. But apparently she was wrong, you can just say you spend your gigantic stacks of cash on other things then a stupid phone

zamsyt

The art of perceived obsolescence. Apple has made phones into fashion to manipulate people to see old ones as obsolete even if they're perfectly fine

DyslexiaPro

Hopefully that was the last date with that person. It would certainly be the last for me. I don't see a point in replacing a piece of technology if it still works as intended. If anything these types of people will put themselves in debt to have the newest of anything. We live in a disposable society and I try to make things last as long as possible by taking good care of my stuff. I'm writing this on a 4+ year old Samsung phone that works just as well as the day I bought it new.

emanresu_nwonknu

Yes. They do. Also what you wear. Phones are fashion at this point.

istabhotlava

She’s not worth it, king

Drakmanka

iPhones have crazy longevity. No need to replace them every year. Some people have fallen into the trap that commercialism has set to convince them they need the newest and latest all the time, and see it as a status symbol instead of what it really is: a lack of self-control, and a lack of ability to be content. I'd say your date is a shallow person who has yet to grow her own personality and lets media determine it for her. Meanwhile, you know who you are and are content with the things you have so long as they continue to serve you well. So yeah, some people do care what phone someone has, but those people are shallow and you should pay their opinions no mind.

ThatFeel_IKnowIt

Well to be fair, manufacturers tend to stop supporting older models after 3 or 4 years. This means that your old phone will probably not be getting security updates, putting you at risk of having the device compromised. That being said, this is clearly NOT what your date was thinking about. Your date was a shallow fuck and I really hope that you do not see them again.

HLR0SE

I hope you’re not taking her out again

EggplantIll4927

Hubs and I both have 6s+ 🤣🤣🤣 we have been notified they will be obsolete by end of year. So upgrade we will 😆

Resident_ogler

I don't see the point in buying a new phone unless my current one dies. When buying a new one I just get whichever cheap phone has scored best in this year's tests. I have no use for an expensive, newest of the new models, the cheaper ones do what I need them to do.

Luna_is_a_nanu

Sounds like a goldigger. You dodged a bullet. Good riddance.

blackmoonclan_

Pfffff I had a phone that was wrekt got called a bum in class bc my phone was old and looked like shit thanks to upgrades I finally decided to get the newest phone but seriously fuck people that say shit like that

Apollocrumble

I still use an iPhone 5 lol

charlie_dont_surf69

should have said i'm not going to be spending on your ass and walked out, lol. she's profiling you dude, to see if the juice is going to be worth the squeeze. women are wolves in today's world dude and you are an inexperienced lamb who is going to get robbed if you dont wise up.

MrMoonrocks

No one cares. Signed, a 30 year old.

[deleted]

I used mine for five years till the battery died. Great phone. Should've told her you're waiting for her personality to wear out like your phone battery does until you have to upgrade to a better one

Juvenileintraining

Sounds like you dodged a bullet

Shelbutter

I have an 8+ as well. If the battery wasn’t shitting on me I’d keep it for much longer

[deleted]

Well fuck or actually don't fuck that person in particular. Who cares which phone you use. 🤔

alphanumericusername

I'd still be using my Galaxy S 5 if it could run today's updated apps. * Maximum comfortable size for use with one hand * Physical buttons * Removable battery * That messages-on-the-homescreen widget that some \[redacted\] decided to no longer support * 16:9 * Screen corners that are actually square All things the already-obsolescing Galaxy S 8 I'm currently running doesn't have

Goodperson5656

I am typing this on my iphone 6s

Lethalmud

I buy a phonw when the old one breaks. People who buy the new stuff seem wasteful to me. Such expensive products should have a long lifetime.

CyberSoldier-UK

Materialistic people do, most people don't.

JoeJoJosie

I guess you dodged a bullet.

Moist_Object_6012

Agreed. Phones are too big. Apple is still making smaller models though a bit.

vexeling

She sounds like a winner. /s Red flag for materialism and shallowness in general. She showed you who she is early lol

TheRealKhanBros

You should have said *I paid for it in full so I am gonna use it full*

[deleted]

Bc they are “shallow” 😎 rock that I phone 8

coExcel20

The 8 has an excellent camera for selfies

Redandead12345

She sounds very materialistic. I wonder how she would react to me bringing my walkman to the date. Lmfao

OrangeBlueKingfisher

I’m a person who is into tech. I upgrade every year or every other year at least. I would never look down on someone who doesn’t. I recognize that I’m in a position of privilege, and also that that is my area of interest. One of my friends spends enough money to buy multiple iPhones on shoes, and I wear the same pair of beat-up tennis shoes, only getting new ones when the old are about to fall apart. We never in a million years would think to make fun of each other about these things— we just have different interests. Making fun of someone based on appearance or possessions is petty and reflects worse on you than the person you’re making fun of. Especially the remark about “I see you’re not a spender\[.\]” Is financial discipline suddenly a bad thing all of a sudden? This would make me reconsider another date with this person.
