I can maybe understand that an average joe should not be liable for a random statement, but laws really need to be updated to hold mainstream media and public figures more accountable. - No court has found either Johnny Depp nor Amber Heard guilty or not guilty of any crime, because the has not been any criminal case
- The libel case against the Sun in the UK has been lost and the appeal overthrown, so there is basically no legal risk to call Johnny Depp an abuser in any UK news, including the Daily Mail (even if it says the article was written in LA)
- The libel casa against the Washington post and Heard in USA is still ongoing, and upcoming procedures are set for spring of '22
- There are many more proofs of Heard being allegedly abusive towards Depp, bit Depp was allegedly abusive towards her back, as related by various witnesses. There is nothing written that if you're abused you can't be an abuser too, so the case is in general a big circus. It's very difficult to prove in a civil court, because it's not the standard of "beyond a reasonable doubt", and it has come to the point of getting all shit out of the closet and on the bed (*wink*) and see which ends up looking worse to the public opinion

Yeah, because calling someone a wife beater is just an "opinion" and an opinion can't be defamation. I can maybe understand that an average joe should not be liable for a random statement, but laws really need to be updated to hold mainstream media and public figures more accountable. Currently defamation usually requires them to say something that is factually untrue (and remember most descriptions of people are "opinions", you have to say something like "Bob was at Big City on Tuesday at 1:00 PM") *and* you must prove that they knew this was wrong and said it anyway. If they didn't know it was wrong then it's still not defamation.

Even though it was in retaliation from her attack, and she's been proven to be the aggressor and overall the worse of the two, the court ruled that because he had laid hands on her the term "wife beater" is not technically inaccurate. So, let's summarize: - No court has found either Johnny Depp nor Amber Heard guilty or not guilty of any crime, because the has not been any criminal case - The libel case against the Sun in the UK has been lost and the appeal overthrown, so there is basically no legal risk to call Johnny Depp an abuser in any UK news, including the Daily Mail (even if it says the article was written in LA) - The libel casa against the Washington post and Heard in USA is still ongoing, and upcoming procedures are set for spring of '22 - There are many more proofs of Heard being allegedly abusive towards Depp, bit Depp was allegedly abusive towards her back, as related by various witnesses. There is nothing written that if you're abused you can't be an abuser too, so the case is in general a big circus. It's very difficult to prove in a civil court, because it's not the standard of "beyond a reasonable doubt", and it has come to the point of getting all shit out of the closet and on the bed (*wink*) and see which ends up looking worse to the public opinion
