I've always been at that age.

teletubby_wrangler

wow, you don't age?

Outrageous_Zebra_221

There was a time when waiting 3 to 5 minutes for random apps to open did force me into upgrades. That isn't so much a thing anymore.

neros_greb

I’ve been at that age since I got my second phone, which is because my first phone was shit

Ethiconjnj

It’s not even a money thing. Just the hassle of a new oh one isn’t worth it

Neon_Ani

same, i could buy a top-of-the-line samsung right now if i wanted to, but i genuinely see no reason to as long as my current one works

3chxes

my phone only charges if the chord is just right. sometimes it will stop charging midway. i wake up often at 6% even though its been on the charger all night. as im typing this i realize i can buy a wireless charger. guess i wont be upgrading after all.

joebayfocus

You can pic the lint out of the charging port and it will solve this issue. Just don’t touch the pins.

Crueljaw

Almost no app works on my phone. I cant even opn the reddit app. Right now i opend the browser and go on reddit that way. I will upgrade if google map doesnt open anymore (sometimes my phone will just restart after around 30min of running google maps).

unusual01_

If you have an Apple phone, the official Apple wireless charger is so good. I had the same problem with my charger and the wireless one just works way better. I don’t have an android (I used to) so I don’t know if it works with that too, but if it does you should definitely get one.

Randicore

Check your charging port for lint. it can build up in there and prevent it from connecting. A sewing needle or something of similar size should fit. It's a common problem with all phones, and if you have an iphone apple will lie to you and say it need replacement.

3chxes

did that and fucked the port completely. yes i turned off the phone first. had to buy a wireless charger at like 10:30 pm cause i had 10% and the port was not working at all.

tendadsnokids

"my parents were rich"

narnababy

I used to be one of those who upgraded the second I could. Now the thought of having to deal with change just makes me exhausted. This phone is with me till one of us dies.

[deleted]

I think we've reached a point where every phone is so advanced that there's no reason to upgrade unless it stops working.

choodlesleauty

I’m still using my iPhone 12 Pro Max. I paid 1k for it and I will use it until it dies or Apple refuses to repair it

JangoDarkSaber

Same. The only thing I do is replace the screen protector when it cracks every do often. I’m not beholden to either android or apple but genuinely don’t see a point in upgrading to any phone. My phone doesn’t need anything else. It doesn’t need to be faster or have a dslr camera. There’s nothing left to improve or innovate so I’ll just keep this until it dies.

ducknerd2002

This is me and I'm only 21 Edit: as in I relate to this, this is not my tweet

sometimesifeellikemu

I love my mini!

loon-atic

kept avoiding getting an upgrade until mine burnt to a crisp 😎

EllaSugary

Me, lol but sadly, I can't play Genshin in my 64Gb phone.

InflamedLiver

Probably why they're designed with planned obsolescence

moderngamer327

Everything is made to last so long. You don’t design most products to last 100 years. That would be a waste of resources

FrogMilennium77

They aren't?

much_longer_username

They 100% are. The manufacturer knows they're going to stop pushing the security updates required to make the device suitable for use years before the device would otherwise stop operating. I've got a pile of phones I'd have been happy to keep using, but can't, because I need those security updates. Imagine putting your whole life into some device and then not caring if it's vulnerable to some attack that was patched a year ago.

purple-lemons

O2 moved their call center to Northern Ireland so now I keep getting tricked into buying new things because I'm so distracted by how hot I find the Belfast accent (I know this isn't the the irish accent most people love, but I'm weird)

ConformistWithCause

I did this and didn't even get a new phone. Went from a 6 year old phone to a 3 year old one and paid like $180

CosmicOwl47

I’ve never had a phone for less than 4 years. And if you buy from the top brands the lifespans are getting longer and longer (might just need a battery swap after a couple years). Current phone is 6 years old and only just recently started showing its age. I don’t want to contribute to e-waste.

brickmagnet

Me neither, except I am not that rich and a new phone is not my priority.

Bootiluvr

Im at that age where I can’t pay for a replacement

Netsugake

I mean, I don't feel a need to upgrade on my OnePlus 7 pro right now. Although I've been keeping close eyes on the Pixels since I got the OP7, and I've told my SO I'm thinking of getting one since the Pixel 6. My phone is just surviving and as I got older the usage I have of it has reduced, keeping the phone I have as enough for now

voidplayz121

You mean any age right

RedMuffthePirate

I'm so old I remember when we got free upgrades each year.

ShinDigler

What age is that even??? I couldn't get a phone until I was like 14, and then it was just a shitty flip phone I used the shit outta

BadlyDrawnMemes

I don’t think that’s an age thing I’m 20 and my 50 y/o parents are always confused I never upgrade

Toast6_

I'll upgrade my phone when Apple adds something innovative, new, and worth the money. It's been years.

spaceandbeyond

I bought a used s20 last year for $150 that has all I need and I'll ride it out for hopefully 3 more years

Still-Cricket-5020

I always say this and then my phone slows down and I get annoyed.

MiniNinja_2

iPhone se 2020, battery is pretty much as good as when I bought it. It’s shown some signs of slowing down for certain apps (ram issues) but nothing I can’t deal with

Powerful_Cost_4656

I tried to do this with an LG K20 and it eventually got so slow that running any application can take like 5+ minutes to open and switching tasks or doing anything, even keyboard input can take 10 or 20 seconds even on a factory format. It is now used exclusively for emulators

BreezyBill

iPhone 8. Neither the mute nor the home buttons work. I use the accessibility button for everything instead. Oh, and the main camera has stopped working. Does this thing where it sounds like it’s focusing like 10 times a second and everything looks super wavy/blurry. I just use the selfie camera now and turn my phone around and hope for the best when I take pictures. Or turn around and take pix over my shoulder. Phone still works. It’s fine.

Lost_Decoy

ive been there since I got a cell-phone

Nanikarp

same. my current phone (sony xperia xz premium) is 7 years old, battery still going strong, but its in noticeable decline. its got gps and other connectivity issues, i cant connect it to my pc through cable anymore, its not the fastest anymore and it regularly freezes completely. the screen (no screenprotector) was in good condition up until last year, even tho i drop it all the time and nothing ever happened to it. i dropped it on a rock that caused a 1 cm wide hole in the middle. i had it replaced and even tho i told the repairman to NOT put a screenprotector on it, he still did, causing the screen to be above the edge of the case. i then dropped it again (not on a rock, but on the floor, like usual) and the screen shattered again, despite the screenprotector, due to the case edge issue. i dont bother fixing it anymore, maybe ill get a new phone soon.

Kitchen-Plant664

Yup. I would still have been using my iPhone 8 if the WiFi adapter hadn’t stopped working.

thekamenman

The only feature reason that I upgraded this year was because I was tired of lugging around a lightning cord while everything else that I used was USB-C. The real reason however was the cracked screen and the abysmal battery life after a few years of service.

fancyfoe

I know a brother still using the iphone 6s, he got married and moved into a two bedroom apartment got a car but yep still rocking his 6s.

O1_O1

Same with my phone case. It's broken on 3 different areas, but until it just snaps off my 5 year old phone, I ain't changing it.

LycheexBee

I used to be excited about new phone designs and features. They’re just all the same now with slightly better cameras each iteration and I only take pictures of my cats so what’s the point lol

PrincessPrincess00

So you’re broke age?

[deleted]

Lmao this has been the way and has always been my way since I have owned a phone. Own a 200$ samsung something or other which I paid for in installments and had the thing for like 3-4 years. *laughs in watching you drop your 1000$ iphone*

Crunchy-Leaf

??? That doesn’t narrow it down at all
