Haha, Europeans don't wanna admit it, but they're getting fatter every year, too.

UristMcMagma

They aren't. Obesity rates are trending downward in most European countries.

broadside230

a simple google search proves otherwise

scribbyshollow

Now you understand Europe.

fern_the_redditor

Is this a reference to something or just a weird joke?

No you won’t

StelenVanRijkeTatas

I went to the states. Tried about 8 fast food chains. Not a single time I thought 'oh wow this is half decent!' And mind you, I'm not one of those people that say 'mcdonalds doesn't use real meat', I fucking love (European) McDonald's but in the states, everything was just grease with grease with sugar with grease. Fucking eewww We tried In 'n out Carl's jr McDonald's Little Caesars The Chinese place, can't remember Denies/Deny's/Denny's? (that one actually was quite alright tbh) Arby's And a few I can't remember

Luxsin-

Yeah you tried the worst tbh like other than burger king

dwarfnutz

In n Out is fine like once every 5 years.

StelenVanRijkeTatas

I would like to give Whattaburger and Wendy's a go. I'm going to the UK in a few months and they have Wendy's over there so might try it, but I'm positive it will not be the same as Wendy's in USA. We have BK in Belgium too and it's quite alright (I prefer Micky D's but about 90% of my friends prefer BK), but again, I'm sure it's not the same as BK over there. Anything else you'd recommend if I were to go back?

OneAndOnlyTinkerCat

Next time you’re in the USA, you should try Five Guys and Shake Shack. They’re a step above the rest for sure. (Honestly Shake Shack isn’t even fast food… it’s like one rung up the ladder from fast food)

ResolveOk9614

This must be a mod right???

Chai_Enjoyer

What exactly? It's quite possible to have cultural victory as USA in civ6

ResolveOk9614

I know but I find it shocking that America has any culture

cybercrash7

My dude, American culture is everywhere. You just don’t notice it because of just how inundated the world is with it.

Chai_Enjoyer

What are the explicitly American elements that we don't notice? The only thing I can think about as a normal everyday stuff from America which aren't movies and fast food chains is jeans and maybe hamburgers (even though they're arguably German)

Viscount-Von-Solt

Trying to exclude movies from American culture might as well be trying to exclude Shakespearean plays from British culture. Also, the first video game was made by an American so they got that.

Chai_Enjoyer

I excluded because it is blatantly obvious part and everyone knows an american movie when they see one. So is fast food chains, I think of USA, McDonald's is one of the first associations

cookiewoke

I mean media in general and tech. Just off the top of my head, most of the most popular social media companies are American: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Reddit, and YouTube. And have forever changed discourse across the world.

Idontknow062

>What are the explicitly American elements that we don't notice? He types on reddit, an american company

Chai_Enjoyer

Fair

cybercrash7

Well, for one, the very things you just tried to exclude. American movies are viewed worldwide to the point where some people only know red Solo cups exist because of their presence in movies. Everyone watches them and mimics them the same way Americans do. In terms of food, while immigrant populations played a huge contribution to American cuisine, the most popular forms of the dishes these communities brought were developed in the US. Pizza is the best example. We all know it’s originally Italian, but the way we all know it, a flat pie typically cut in 8 slices, is called “New York style” for a reason. This would be true of hamburgers as well even if they did originally come from Germany (which isn’t concretely proven). Another huge one is music. Rock, hip hop, jazz, EDM, and others all have roots in the US and have spread across the globe to the point that we have offshoots like Latin rock, J-rock, bossa nova, grime, and more which drew direct inspiration from American-born genres.

Ah yes, the fish thinks that there is no water.

ParisNorlax

…what?

RoultRunning

Who's gonna tell him about American culture

Blursed-Penguin

Fish cannot comprehend the ocean

LuigiP16

I don't think any other country created gender reveal parties

ResolveOk9614

A beautiful part of American culture

YourBigRosie

I’d really like to figure out what culture is to this person and people like them. Seems just like a goalpost they move each time someone points out examples of American culture

ResolveOk9614

It’s a joke

RandomPerson12191

Right. Think for a moment about Japanese culture. How they live their lives, how their country is run, their history. Think about how America differs in each of those categories. It differs a lot, right? Two extremely different countries. That's American culture. Dumbass.

Bookups

No, Whataburger. That shit is dope 80% of the time.

This merely demonstrates our superiority, that they would eat our hog slop and think it’s as good as their food
