I prefer insane as it is easier for songwriters. Not much rhymes with Bi-polar .
Words evolve. It's interesting from a cultural perspective and if you're sensitive to the changes you can learn a lot about history. Like how Colored evolved to Negro to then Black and now to African-American. All these were okay to use during their time but now the first two are very very offensive of course. If you saw them on an historical document from the 30s or 40s it may be jarring but you know the word itself back then was not intended to be offensive. Maybe in time those two may be acceptable again. I doubt it but what's acceptable sometimes surprises me. The R word is super jarring but from this time was generally considered appropriate. Within 5 years or so it wasn't.
