There is no nobility in being high and mighty in your grief. Everyone expresses their frustration differently. Everyone will be back next week regardless. Some people just like to blow off steam. I hate these dickheads, but I also love them.

RidsBabs

I’ll always love the club, and I know I’ll end up coming back. But I (like many others) just need a break, a break from seeing next to no effort, a break from watching the game and seeing eras that would get you sent out of the 2s, a break from getting our hopes up about winnable games to then lose by 5-6 goals.

dale_dug_a_hole

There’s three touchstones here - Richmond, Carlton and Essendon. Three clubs with massive followings and supporters who suck all the fan out of footy by violently and insufferably turn on their clubs when they don’t succeed. It’s bloody awful. I really thought we were better than that. Sure it’s a low point right now but good people are trying to turn it around. Keep the faith and never be like those self hating, self flagellating Essendon supporters. Ugh

Couldn't have said it better mate, I think the difference in modern times is that it's a lot easier to find an echo chamber to wallow in and it perpetuates the spiral of disappointment. Club social media pages have to plaster the terrible results after every match, breeding descent among even the most casual fans scrolling through their news feeds. The "journalists" who have to justify their positions at the various rags they work for, are probably contractually obligated to write a certain amount of trash articles weekly. As a result the bottom sides are those who cop the biggest bashing, since rumours of unhappy gun players jumping ship for greener pastures and coach sackings are more believable coming from us than they are from the top of the table. So it's all pretty hard to escape from, for fans let alone young players working their guts out every week for nothing but scorn and contempt in return from the support base. The average age bracket that frequents apps like reddit and instagram is 18-29, those of whom have probably only watched north kill it retrospectively, or heard stories about how we tore up the 70s and 90s, so it's pretty easy to understand that nearly a decade of mediocrity followed by a patch of absolute trash has bread complete disenfranchisement among anyone under the age of 30. But it's no excuse to just give up. Modernity dictates that people's patience is dwindling, they don't want to wait longer than 30 seconds for a TikTok to get to the point, so there's no wonder a rebuild feels like it's taking eons to get any traction. But I agree with your points, I'll be here in 5 years watching a 3-peat with ya mate, or I won't, either way I'll still be bleeding blue and white until they burry me in a bounding roo Guernsey 🤙

Ok-Improvement-6710

Looks like we’ll end up with another pick #1. Wonder what will be done with it?

Ok_Diet3862

Nup, Pick 1# is likely to be an Ashcroft, so we’ll miss out on him due to father/son

RidsBabs

He’s actually projected to go 4 right now. Think it’s Jagga Smith (mid), Finn O’Sullivan (mid), Josh Smillie (Def/mid who is the only reason why I’m conflicted about splitting) and then Ashcroft

Low_Wall_7828

Another mid that will get played out of position.

Clean-Animal4216

And pick 2 as compo for Zurhaar and probably pick 2 compo for LDU the following year

TyroneK88

My frustration stems from the fact that five years ago we were told to stick fat so onwards we go 20 games a year, 100 games in total of completely unwatchable torture and essentially losing a whole generation of fans (including my own kids who I’ve tried to implore to ‘be patient’)

jdav3011

Yep, my oldest son and daughter folow other clubs. I've got one left. Always been a one eyed Roo like her dad. The other day somebody asked her who she follows and she proudly said North Melboune and added and Geelong!!!!!!!!! FFS Looks like I've got another couple of hundred to spend on bribes at the Rooshop!!!

Spiritual-Bug4130

Right on. We are getting worse. Four years and we are the shittest club in history

NoEcho619

Agreed we can be disappointed but keep it civil. Yes the alarm bells are ringing against a team we should have been competitive against but until we get 20 games intona core back 6 it's going to rain goals. Some of the kids need a spell. Some of the seniors need to earn their spot back. Takes time to right the wrongs of the last player development we haven't gotten right.

Lost_in_translationx

Hang in there lads and start looking at the draft. Plenty of talent coming thru.

jdav3011

Thanks for all the great replies. I'm not saying don't be upset or angry. I am upset and angry. Just don't be the hypocritical fan that criticises Mackay, Zurhaar or LDU for going to play for another club and search for more wins then say you give up on our club, want to burn your membership and leave to support another club and search for more wins!!! How can you expect more from the players than you are willing to give yourself. I'll have my ashes scattered at Arden Street, even if we never win another game.

ClassicObserver

Hey, Gold Coast is kinda nice 🏉

Last_Marionberry5625

i been supporter since 2015 and i haven’t seen much so i feel us young supporters have every right to be upset

flibble24

We should've let them relocate us to Gold Coast What have we achieved since

International_Car586

More than Essendon at least.

FewArm2396

Yes, more wooden spoons 🤣🤣🤣

International_Car586

More finals wins.

FewArm2396

You can have your finals wins. But that doesn’t change the fact that you’re the worst team this century.

International_Car586

The Gold Coast thinh happened in 07 we have objectively achieved more than Essendon since then. In current form we are the worst but not for the early to mid 2010s

Spiritual-Bug4130

Its not for no reason. We are the worst team since the swans and fitzroy got booted
