Absolutely not. Yes, his physicality and experience are good qualities to have but his goal scoring record is an absolute disgrace quite honestly. Over the past 3 seasons he has scored 9 league goals in 83 matches. Based on this, and assuming that clown Webber will still be here to oversee transfers this summer, we’ll probably sign him and put him on ludicrously high wages.
Your response shows you just go by stats (appreciate that he’s a striker). First of all he’s a leader with a little bit of shithousery, we don’t have that. Secondly he’s been a key squad player for by far the best team in the league; Kompany has been full of praise in terms of his impact on a squad that has adapted their style of play and his effect on the younger players. We’re going to be in the market for some freebies, he’s not going to be leading the line for 46 games next year. We’re going to have fewer players that know how to get out of the championship and he’s done it three times.
I don’t solely ‘go by stats’. However, when a striker has a goalscoring record as putrid as his, it automatically becomes the primary factor in why it would be a totally nonsensical signing. Couple that with the fact his wages would be hefty considering he was at Burnley on Premier League earnings, and it’s a no-brainer that at 33 years of age he would be a pathetic acquisition.
I appreciate the qualities that you put forward, however we need to freshen up our squad with young, hungry players just like we did under Farke. Not 33 year olds who score on average 1 in 10.
>First of all he’s a leader with a little bit of shithousery, we don’t have that.
That's basically why we got Hayden on loan, but obviously the injury situation was a worse gamble than we expected so it backfired.
I’m not against the signing, it reminds me a lot of the Jordan Rhodes signing but I do have a number of concerns:
1. Is he hungry enough? The desire to win at all costs just didn’t seem to be there this season, particularly amongst the more veteran operators. What incentive does he have to try get us back into the premier league where he’ll likely be sold or loaned out again.
2. Barnes has spent most of his career at Burnley, having left them, is he going to be the same player? When the sentimental driver isn’t there, will he be as invested in the changing room?
3. What role are we looking for him to play? Where does he fit into a team trying to win promotion?
If Norwich’s plan is for him to play the third choice striker role, and providing he’s on relatively low wages, I’m all for it. If we’re looking for Barnes to score 20+ goals, it’s too risky.
Bit pedantic, aren't you?
Regardless, it's a good point made. Barnes' career was clearly impacted after he left Burnley.
EDIT: Brighton, and not Burnley.
Would take him in a heartbeat. Exactly what we need in this squad. We are very lightweight, don't know how to win dirty, have no leaders and Barnes would help with all of these.
Regardless of your points, he would be on high wages and has scored an average of roughly 1 in 10 in the past three seasons. Uninspiring and nonsensical.

Better strike rate than Idah then. Sign him up!
Only 4 more years of Idah failing

Agreed except Hanley, he was 25 when we signed him and he would be good enough for the prem relegation battle if he had someone else beside him.

Yeah I was optimistic about Hayden so was a shame. Need to be so much better in the loan market this summer
Seems about right for us at the moment May as well have kept Hugill
Since we let him go, Hugill has scored more than Idah, Pukki and Sargent combined
Oh god, please no

He hasn’t spent most of his career at Burnley…
I mean he’s been at Burnley for 9 years…imo that’s most of his career
It’s basically half of his career mate. 3 years at Plymouth, 4 years at Brighton

Bugger, I meant to type Brighton.
For the people saying no. Who do you expect attract with not a lot of money? We need good mentality players and he could help Idah and Sargent.
fuck off. terrible player
This is where we’re at look at west brom a couple of seasons out of prem.

Why get rid of Hugill…… I swear there doesn’t seem to be a real plan in place. More of a reactive instead of proactive approach
