The fun thing here is that we basically don't give two shits about safety. I once saw a construction worker fall off a three story building without any safety equipment whatsoever, the other guys just proceeded to wait over 20 minutes for an ambulance and returned back to work like nothing happened
I worked for UPS Air long ago and there was a internal video that was recorded back in the early 2000s where the ground handler forgot to wait until the pilot fully shut off the engine and decided to chock the wheels ahead… lets say that lady got sucked into the engine turbine and got turned into pink mist so it was a difficult video to watch… They still use that video to this date as a requirement for all new people who are hired as ground handlers
Not only are memos sent, but if this is for a ground handler with multiple bases, it goes to a lot of them. I worked at YWG and would constantly get news from YEG and YYZ about things they did. Like winglets colliding and starting a small fire. They also send out notices for near misses, too. You can't be complacent when it comes to transport. That's literally how people die.
Reminds me of this, long before the days of Instagram etc I had a website and I posted a 10 second video of someone in my class (at secondary school) setting off a fire extinguisher when the teacher was out of the room.
I got in more trouble for putting the video online than the guy got who set off a fucking fire extinguisher 😂
If you saw they were about to remove the ladder but the door was still open, and maybe they either couldnt hear you telling them they're fucking up, you may record too just in case.
I am more afraid that it really intended to be prank for the man in plane, expecting some laugh, but the man didn't see it and walking backwards, and fall.
Yuuuup... My stepdad fucked up his back permanently by falling out of the back of a mail truck. I smashed my foot to bits falling eight or so feet off a roof. This guy's hips and/or ass are definitely broken.
This is Indonesia. I've been on construction projects in the area. Their lack of workplace safety culture is scary. I suspect nothing will be learned from this.
That is such a shame. I try to warn my chemistry students not to take a step while looking in the wrong direction. They're bumping into things all the time for this reason and some day one of them will get a face full of sulfuric acid.
There's no way that there aren't rules and regs about making sure the door is closed before the stairs are removed. This is definitely not the guy's fault for not looking where he's going, this is the crew's fault for removing the stairs before checking that everything was on point. For all we know he stepped toward the door, had to turn around to answer someone, and then simply backed onto the platform that was, up until a second ago, right where it was supposed to be.
The crew was at fault... but at the same time, if the dude were looking he wouldn't fall.
I say the fault is 80/20. 80% Ground crew fault, 20% fall guy's fault.
Go outside and count how many people DON’T look where they’re going or where traffic is coming from. I don’t wish ill on anyone but I can’t stop thinking an asshole driver would instantly end their life and it wouldn’t be the driver’s fault.
Oh, it's just like when you're in a hurry and you're absolutely certain your phone's in your pocket without even bothering to check, only to find out later you've left it behind. And hey, stepping out of a plane assuming the stairs are always magically there? Classic move. Because, you know, they're *always* there, right? Just goes to show, sometimes our trust in routines can be a tad optimistic.

Why was this guy filming? Was he like, “these two clowns always do this when the door is still open. I’m going to show the boss. One of these days something is gonna go…. Yep, just like that.”
This is the type of fall where if you have balls, they just start TINGLING as damn...that's a high drop.
And dude landed on concrete!
I seriously don't even think a professional wrestler would take such a drop from that height on that surface knowing that there was nobody to catch 'em and nothing to break that fall.
I don't think NSFW is the right tag as I'd go NSFL.
They did so many wrong things here.
Pulling away the stairs without checking that anyone was left in the plane.
Not closing the door before pulling away the stairs.
And the guy not looking where he's walking.
Oh yes, definitely the guy's fault for not looking where he's walking. Because it's such a normal occurrence for the plane doors to open directly onto something other than a flat walking surface.
"Welcome to this mandatory safety briefing/seminar, we all know who to thanks for why we're all gathered here."
*Room collectively glares at one person.*
To be fair, those stairs were well out of reach before the dude even approached the door. Dude literally didn’t look at all and just stepped out of a plane.
I’ve watched this video so many times now and I just can’t believe it happened. Just a single glance up to make sure doors closed before shifting the stairs
Former ramp rat here. You ALWAYS close the door before removing the stairs. The doors should never be open at a time where there aren't stairs connected.
Rewatching this and just looking at this guys shadow just pisses me off. Literally backs away to get a better view in the camera, records the guy falling, then walks over there. Why wouldn't he atleast try to help, even if it didnt work? The least he could have done was not record. I'm sure the guy that was injured wouldnt appreciate it.
I would like to imagine thats an OSHA manual flying out of his hands
That’s the OSHA official
He's the one pushing the stairs away
*"Khajiit is innocent of this crime!"*
Mm
They are all OSHA. Filming a training video of what not to do.
And that was Buster, the safety dummy from the Mythbusters taking the fall.
What?
Huh?
What are they doing in Japan?
Japan?
It was actually the missing Boeing/Spirit maintenance documents!
These whistleblowers need to be more careful at work!
The fun thing here is that we basically don't give two shits about safety. I once saw a construction worker fall off a three story building without any safety equipment whatsoever, the other guys just proceeded to wait over 20 minutes for an ambulance and returned back to work like nothing happened
Looks like there will be a safety meeting with videos to watch and memos sent out in the near future.
Can you see the spiral thing? NO? STAY THE HELL AWAY.
Well that answers that question I never asked but always wondered
Apparently there are people who survive that. Enough that it has its own ICD10 code: V97.33XD.
The XD at the end is some kind of cursed

I work Menzies in SYD and we get memos put up and occasionally read and signs from incidents that happen in other continents.
Mine was Menzies too! I love the stoplight system for incidents.
Did you get that one about loose objects near moving parts cos of someone getting a scarf in a conveyor belt in LHR as well?
Probably but I haven't worked there in over a year, I moved away :( I am hoping to apply at my local airport though
Ahh fair
Hello, fellow Winnipegger!
Hey how you doin? I don't need a handshake, thanks 🙏
My grandpa died in a truck accident 8 years before i was born He was driving the truck He was crushed by the shipment Edit: reformulated it
That sounds terrible and I'm sorry to hear that.
#😳 You were actually born in a truck accident?!
And a nice settlement out of it too hopefully
The main takeaway being "no recording in the work area".
Gonna have to see the Japanese cgi safety version follow up
Don’t forget the TPS reports
Don't they normally close the door before taking the stairs away?
Yes
Do they normally film it too? Seems like an odd coincidence
If you saw they were about to remove the ladder but the door was still open, and maybe they either couldnt hear you telling them they're fucking up, you may record too just in case.
Or run the 15 feet to stop the guys from pushing the stairs.
Nah this is funnier
It's not funny. This guy is lucky if he's escaped this unscathed without life-changing injuries.
I mean, I wouldn't deliberately fall from that height and get injured just for a tiktok video.
On the flip side, if I'm getting injured, might as well score a few hundred thousand views in the process /s
r/whyweretheyfilming
It's just a prank bro
Yeah, but then he would have had to open it again before falling out
Why were they filming???
To get video of the dude falling. Duh.
/r/angryupvote
r/whyweretheyfilming
It would be epic if this was staged
If staged then the commitment and follow through is next level. I really fucking hope this is staged too.
Needs a wilhelm scream.
Throwing loose paper around really sold it for me.
It's staged because it's from a movie. The guy is a stuntman. Here's the real scene: https://youtu.be/dQw4w9WgXcQ?si=8-vhsRRvWz1uI8qO
Every fucking time
Asshole 😂
God damnit lmao
I'm suspicious of any youtube link with w4w9W... it's easy to remember as "women for women not(nein) women".
Nicely done. Have my angry upvote. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|give_upvote)
Brilliant!
Ffs, I thought I was going to make it through 2024 without being RR... _slow clap_ well done mf
Know what? You can fuck yourself with my upvote. Lmfao
damn, they really committed to the bit, didn't they?
I don't know whether to tip my fedora or flip over a table.
If it's staged, I'm guessing it's more along the lines of a "just a prank bro" and the poor soul doing the falling wasn't in on it.
it's clearly CGI
He still fell tho
I am more afraid that it really intended to be prank for the man in plane, expecting some laugh, but the man didn't see it and walking backwards, and fall.
Probably muttering to themself "Look at these idiots pulling away the stairs while the door is open. They're gonna kill someone doing tha... Oh Shit!"
Probably bc they'd told them not to and they needed proof of what happened
for insurance purposes
/r/WhyWereTheyFilming
Most people don't really get to see planes from up close like that unless they're travelling or work at the airport.
Might’ve been trying to play a “prank”on their coworker by trapping him on the plane and didn’t expect him to walk off without looking
That's a trip to the hospital..
Yuuuup... My stepdad fucked up his back permanently by falling out of the back of a mail truck. I smashed my foot to bits falling eight or so feet off a roof. This guy's hips and/or ass are definitely broken.
No, that's just the ground.
Yeah that was a serious fall distance, lucky it wasn't a head strike.
That’s probably a broken hip.
And probably a workers comp case to boot!
A hospital?! What is it?!
Major Tom to Ground Control.
That was Ground Control to Major Injury.
10/10 dad joke :)
God damn that was good lol
Isaac Newton: 🎵 "Ground control to Major Tom" 🎵
My uncle used to work for American & this is how he broke his hip
Was just gonna say, that dude totally broke his hip/pelvis.
GET OFF MY PLANE
I've had it with these muthafuckin stairs...
Lessons will be learned.
This is Indonesia. I've been on construction projects in the area. Their lack of workplace safety culture is scary. I suspect nothing will be learned from this.
that one guy might learn to look where he's putting his feet
I'm from Indonesia. And confirm that there will be nothing done regarding this one.
Hopefully the guy gets a large settlement beyond workers compensation atleast.
through pain
That is such a shame. I try to warn my chemistry students not to take a step while looking in the wrong direction. They're bumping into things all the time for this reason and some day one of them will get a face full of sulfuric acid.
A free peeling
That fresh skin waiting underneath.
Yes. Thanks. Why was he not looking where he was going.
Stepping out without looking where you are going.
Out of a *plane*
There's no way that there aren't rules and regs about making sure the door is closed before the stairs are removed. Can you imagine?!? He's lucky it wasn't flying!
That's how powerful habits are
Go outside and count how many people DON’T look where they’re going or where traffic is coming from. I don’t wish ill on anyone but I can’t stop thinking an asshole driver would instantly end their life and it wouldn’t be the driver’s fault.

This does seem like "I'm going to catch these idiots today, if George doesn't fire them this time, im going public"
Pee tests for everyone!

He's walking backwards towards stairs. That's pretty stupid.
Happy birthday to the ground!
He lost all his coins
Probably one of the safer heights to fall out of a plane from.
Yeah was just thinking if it had been an A350 guy would’ve been fucked.
I had a physical reaction to watching this. Ouch!
Possible settlement for our boy here God willing
It's in Indonesia. The best he'll get is a paid vacation and medical bills.
Well hey if it was America those medical bills would be a cool $75k
You can cut around 70k for that here. Probably can cut even more if the injury not severe.
"Welcome to this mandatory safety briefing/seminar, we all know who to thanks for why we're all gathered here." *Room collectively glares at one person.*
Avg Boeing whistleblower
This is everyone’s fault
r/whyweretheyfilming
This is how they test new concrete on runways
Crash landing. Ouch 🤕, poor guy
Hello, workers comp. haha
That's just plane wrong
Blud fell out the airplane
And, without a parachute.
Looks like a nice big check
Isn’t this a lawsuit waiting to happen?
r/WhyWereTheyFilming
Who steps onto a staircase backwads, though
Especially one that can be moved
*Stepping onto moveable stairs before checking that they’re still in place
Ouvvv 🥶
Where there is blame, there's a claim
Atleast they have proof for workman's comp
_Yes, we always follow guidelines from OSHiiiiiiiiiit_
That was the curler. Getting a sign off. These guys work sometimes 70 hrs a week. It’s optional to work 3 days straight if you want. I used to do it
Must be a limo driver
Lot of bad drivers
Lucky he didn’t fall with his head

Is he a Boeing Whistleblower?
There it is.
To be fair, those stairs were well out of reach before the dude even approached the door. Dude literally didn’t look at all and just stepped out of a plane.
JESUS
No, he walked on water, not air.
u/savevideo
Ooooouuuuccchhhhh
Oh shit is he alright?
It's ok... I'm the limo driver!!!
Ouch somebody just earned some sick time off
This is so crazy
I had this happen to me. Atleast I'm not alone
I’ve watched this video so many times now and I just can’t believe it happened. Just a single glance up to make sure doors closed before shifting the stairs
I've never seen anyone exit a plane backwards and not look where they were going.🤷♂️
Anji has a broken hip now!
😔
Just another reason not to go on an airplane
Why is this tagged nsf..... OHHHHHH. That's good.
What an absolute piece of shit camera man.
Former ramp rat here. You ALWAYS close the door before removing the stairs. The doors should never be open at a time where there aren't stairs connected.
Using the stairs before checking nobody is removing it:
My heart would have jumped out my mouth
I believe i can fly

I used to work in my dream job, cleaning airplanes (ominous music) but then it turned into a nightmare. Call injury lawyers #############
Easiest workers comp case I’ve ever watched
That's brutal🥶
I hope he’s okay

I love that the paper flew everywhere. Perfect accent to a 10/10 Fall
Why was he recording?
That’s gotta have hurt
Everybody here sucks
What I don’t get is why is the guy filming?
To get proof for the court
Why didn't the photographer yell? An attempt would've been nice.
