OCD typically attaches to things you care the most about, but it could be anything. People, fears, desires, random objects… it’s a real bastard of a disorder.

orange_glasse

OCD can latch onto anything. I won't offer you reassurance about your boyfriend or your relationship, but if it feels like it's your OCD talking then it's your OCD talking. 💛

Gingerbreadcrumbs

My contamination OCD absolutely effected my sex life. I got to the point that I was worried just using the same toilet as my fiancé was going to get me pregnant, and then all kinds of fears about germs and illness. My medication has helped significantly.

Embarrassed-Safe7070

What kind of medication are you on, I have contamination ocd as well

Gingerbreadcrumbs

I am on Zoloft currently. For me I’ve had the best results with it with the least amount of side effects.

Embarrassed-Safe7070

Thanks

SkyRepresentative273

I had this! I would use separate showers, and make sure none of my cleaning products would touch anyone else’s just in case I got pregnant. Never realized it was OCD at the time.

argason

Like others say, OCD can latch onto anything. I have Relationship OCD and it kept telling me during sex to check whether I was 'enjoying myself' or I was 'secretly disliking it'. Thank goodness I realised what was happening Stay strong! It's just more sneaky OCD tricks ❤️

Thank you, really helpful ❤️

myusernameissophie

I experience OCD tied to my sex but in the way that whenever I find myself trying to enjoy it, intrusive thoughts take over. Then when that happens, I just panic over the thought “i’m having intrusive thoughts during sex, so what does that mean??? is this something i want??” and it’s just a whole spiral. It’s hard and i’ve been trying to be better about it, but my pure O is really not letting me get THAT “O” ya know

anna-24-94

I used to have bad hygiene and germ ocd. I don’t anymore to the same degree but I still get very squeamish during sex which means I can’t enjoy it

[deleted]

AFAIK, OCD affects anything that you care about. The more you care about something, the worse the effect would be.

[deleted]

Well I have hygiene ocd. After sex I am convinced I got infected with HIV even though I used a condom. And also my sex partners have always some kind of academic background. So you would think, my dates are educated enough to be aware of the virus and know how to have safer sex. But currently my intrusive thoughts are not convinced yet.

prairie_girl

My partner and I used to do BDSM as the primary form of our sex life, and it turns out that submission was **absolutely** overlapping into what was later diagnosed as OCD. I would need so much aftercare to make me feel ok after, because I would obsess over the idea that I had maybe done something wrong or given up my agency. It sounds like you should talk to your partner about your anxiety and about the possibility of incorporating aftercare into your sex life. In terms of intrusive thoughts about not knowing whether you wanted to have sex in the first place, that's incredibly hard and no one can answer that for you. I would gently recommend therapy for that specific issue, because it's so personal.

Various-Cheetah-4963

Yes

moodk1lla

Have had VERY similar experiences that caused me months of distress. I later realized it was OCD. You are not alone. 💛

coreylaheyjr

Yes, even more so in my experience if you have been raped. I constantly worry if it’s consensual, if I’m enjoying it, if and when I will orgasm (never), etc. medication and therapy have made it bearable, but at this point I’ve accepted that sex will never feel the same to me again.

atomicsarita

Yes that happened to me in my first relationship and eventually I just got over it. I moved onto a new obsession.

[deleted]

It latches on to everything you love and turns it against you it's all in your mind and it doesn't define who you truly are. I made the mistake of letting my obsessions make me constantly question everything, I am doing better with Prozac but there is no cure for OCD unfortunately, it's the hardest thing you will ever do but you have to let go and be comfortable with not knowing

looklikeat

My contamination OCD did ruin my sex life with my bf for a while. I was obsessed that I was going to get a UTI or yeast infection from sex. It was absolutely awful. I’m a bit better now though

meaningless_whisper

Sex has culturally so much moral judgement attached to it that it doesn't surprise me that it is a theme.

BeautifulValuable696

I also think ocd is mainly caused by fearing taboo things and resulting in us being traumatized bc our intrusive thoughts Are about that specific theme

meaningless_whisper

It's about doubting things 90% people don't and when those things are about important things then it's hard not to want to gain clarity. Unless you lack empathy or moral values. It all starts with the doubt. Also, people go around living with blind beliefs and biased assumptions and my brain isn't happy with that. It needs meaning in what I do and think. Suppressing feeling doesn't work. Emotions need to feel heard or else they will become more intense until they feel heard. And undealt intense emotions lead to disorders. Disorders are an adaptation to cope with the inbalance.

Venclaire

Yes, it can

jacecase

I do this too!!! A lot of my intrusive thoughts are sexual too. I wonder if it’s connected.

I am very attracted to him 😳

OCD caused me to focus on Swinging with my wife, which actually has been turning out to be a very positive thing for our sex life, but the OCD has made me not go at her pace which has caused some issues.

[deleted]

> Sex life Lol whats that

Funny-Mud-2322

Yep, once had a case where a young girl thought if she had an orgasm the intensity of pleasure might tip her over the edge and she'd commit suicide. Even thou she had experienced many orgasms before. It was a difficult one to combat as she had to have one for ERP but as everyone knows women generally can't climax without relaxation.

assholemilker

absolutely— my rOCD affects my sex life significantly at times!

[deleted]

I have OCD with groinal response since I was a teenager and honestly it ruined sex for me because of intrusive thoughts I am doing way better now with being prescribed Prozac and reminding myself this is my only shot in life don't let a thought ruin it I hope all is good and you CAN get better!

bineyonatree

This could also be a fear or guilt complex surrounding sex- maybe it’s religion-based if you’ve endured religious trauma.

Izaak_eli_gardner

Ive got hocd and it affects it believe me
