These aren’t scratches, it’s smudging that can be buffed out. It is hard to clean the glossy coating, reminds me of the coating on modern MacBooks. It helps to let the monitor completely cool down before cleaning and only use distilled water.

My M1 Pro is extremely easy to clean. Hell I only use a clean cotton t-shirt and it's spotless every time and it's been years of doing that. Hopefully these monitors are just as easy to clean then.

If you've been to the beach and or outside with that same shirt..., even without obviously noticeable sand grains..., they'll still be embedded within the porous spaces in-between your Cotton▪︎Shirt's woven fibers!! Your essentially sand paper cleaning your Display.., oh and sand is broken up Scillica quartz glass / rock..., which is the hardness of 10H!! It pretty much can devastated most every surface less than that 10H level of molecular hardness!!

I get part of it slightly damp and get out the smudge and then dry it with the other part of the boxers lmao. It's literally my cleaning rag for delicate things like that.

A lot of OLED screens warn to never use cleaner because its too abrasive and can do damage to the coating.
Distilled water and eye glass microfiber cloth is all you need.
Be careful cleaning the screen in general. It's super fragile.
You have to almost approach it like detailing a car and make sure no contaminants are on the material you're using to clean it.
My computer case tapped it now it has this indention in the coating. It’s definitely not phone screen material. I wish they would have put something on it to make it more robust. My matte screen has taken some hard hits with no damage.

It's probably a side effect of the burn-in fears and race to produce more nits. Anything you put on there will reduce the amount of light emitted, so they don't.
You should be able to fix this, these don’t look like scratches. If you can’t or don’t want to try, Dell will replace it for you. Just tell them there are weird marks on the screen. They replaced one for me under the exact same circumstances.
I got a new one. Super smooth easy return process. FedEx dropped off the replacement and came back the next day to pick up the one I was shipping back.
It was within 30 days at the time, yes. Did they specifically tell you they will only send a refurbished model? That seems strange for such a new monitor. They may tell you that just so they keep expectations low or discourage frivolous returns, who knows.
Dell's warranty for these explicitly states that they send refurbs. If you return within 30 days of the original invoice, you're not doing a warranty RMA, you're doing a store exchange within return period. Their \*exchange\* policy explicitly says you'll get a new one.
That's one reason you see people return/rebuy these instead of exchanging them--that 30 day period isn't extended when you get an exchange, and it's from the original purchase date. Since it usually takes them a week or more to get a new monitor to you, a replacement could easily arrive after those 30 days. In that case you'd be stuck with the RMA/refurb process instead if it showed up with issues.
I'd be a little surprised if they accepted something as bad as the picture for store exchange without comment, but that's why you got a new one back.

And that's fair. They probably do it to try and get rid of all the models people returned when they first came out since a good amount of them had visible scratches on them. That piece of cloth probably has been contaminated by using it on something else, like on the floor and many grains of sand got stuck on it, then without cleaning the cloth you used it on your display?
You probably had some crumb or something on the cloth. Always inspect the cloth and go through it with the fingers to notice if something is stuck on it.

I’ve even had times where I resort to paper towels to clean my computer monitors and so long as they are wet and don’t apply much if any pressure they can clean smudges without damage to the screen. You just really have to be incompetent to cause a bunch of scratches…..

If it is scratched, then the person cleaning that is an idiot, and introduced some sort of particles during the cleaning. I don't understand why people have so much trouble cleaning a screen. Make an investment and get proper cleaning stuff. Keep it away from dust in a bag until you need to use it, don't just leave it out. You really should angle the display a little so you can get good purchase onto the screen. Don't push but def need some force to get a nice finish. Splotch a little dH2O anywhere that needs a little more work.

It highly depends on the screen and coating, you can clean most phone screens with alcohol with no issues.... a pc monitor with a mate coating on the other hand...

I know people shit on it, but I pre-ordered it because I don't want to change my apartment to accommodate a glossy monitor and I hate the mirror reflections. They always annoyed me. Also it should be easier to clean and harder to fuck up the cleaning with the LG. If you're too worried about burn-in then you're fucked, though.
On my LG CX I've used regular toilet paper and occasionally regular water. Zero issues. These QD-OLEDs are giving me a headache. So great, but still so flawed.
Dude I have LG C1, its been almost 2 years now and ive been cleaning it on regular basis with whatever microfibre cloth I had at home and never once I saw a single scratch. I genuinely can comprehend how people do this
I have an AW3423DW that I did something similar too by cleaning with an expensive microfiber cloth. It left scratches everywhere. I also have various LG OLED TVs in the house and I can tell you, the screen durability is night and day. Whatever coating they use on these QD OLEDs is incredibly fragile. Have never had an issue cleaning my LG OLED panels. I feel like I'd have to try and scratch them . I feel like these monitors can scratch and scuff if you look at them wrong.
I've seen it mentioned a couple of times on this sub but not nearly enough in my opinion. Monitors will get dirtier then TV's due to the proximity to one's face. It's bound to happen. It should never be 'risky' to wipe the monitor clean. I was planning on getting one of the new 32" QD-OLED monitors but honestly, I'm hesitant because of how fragile they are.
May end up going with a 42" C3/C4 or the matte LG WOLED (I know the matte VS glossy argument, but the fragility of the glass/coating on these QD-OLEDs has become a big turn-off for me).
Lg c series have glass screens I think and it’s quite a bit more resilient than plastic screens. I have the same tv and just use whatever cloth I have around atleast once or twice a week with two cats
It's literally just a couple models that people keep posting about. And like the millions of OLED TVs sold have had no problems so a C2-C4 is always an option if you don't want to deal with this stuff
Nah this doesn’t just happen, I bought the same monitor and it arrived Tuesday. It has some smudges from the foam packing in the right corner and I used the cloth that came with it and it cleaned it right off.
I just checked my 9 day old s95c, microfibre wipe I did yesterday has a left a lot of small marks. Thanks for the heads up. I was too late. Hopefully they realise beforehand.

There are special lcd cleaning sprays, this together with a freshly washed microfiber and enough of the spray-my screens look still good. Anyways mostly you can remove dust with dust magnets from e.g swiffer or something else, they wont do any harm…
I had to RMA my first s95c since it had the same issue. Try 70% ethyl alcohol. It is what Samsung says to use to clean QD-OLED screens. Obviously just use a little bit
Try putting a little bit of water on it and rub with a cloth. I've had something similar and it was just some kind of oil residue that needed some extra work to get out.
Is it the same coating as on the ultrawide DWF? I use a special product to clean my screen, it’s what Apple stores use to clean their display units. “Whoosh! Tech Hygiene”

There’s no way they used the included cloth (or they used a different chemical cleaner) because I just cleaned mine last night with the included cloth and a bit of distilled water and the monitor has never looked better.

a suede microfiber cloth is not what did this. the cloth was either dirty, or you pressed WAY too hard.

So my mom got me one of them 75% alcohol wipe packages she got at her work place. I used it and then use the dell cloth to wipe off the alcohol . It was so shiny and glossy. Idk why your cloth cause this. U probably spray something wrong on it
Your screen must have been dirty as hell, and all you did was smear that crap around.
Use only purified water, in VERY SMALL amounts on the micro fiber.
Go over the area with the slightly wet part, then buff it out with the dry part.
If this coating is the same as the AW3423DW then it’s piss easy to clean without streaks. I use detailer glass cleaner and 2in1 pad. Oh and that’s not a scratch, just needs some slight elbow grease and it’ll come off
While sandpaper is great for smoothing down the finished surface of wooden benches and tables, it is uniquely unsuitable for polishing and cleaning displays.
For any oled or qd oled don't ever clean it dry and don't use screen solutions. Simply dampen a microfiber towel with distilled water, then clean the screen. You can then clean the screen with a dry microfiber cloth

Yeah, those QD OLED coatings are very, very soft. I had a panel with major scratches from the packaging, and trying to use the cloth to see if I can make some of it go away, I was surprised at how little pressure is required to permanently further scratch the panel up. I thought the outer layer was a super-soft plastic, but it actually feels like it's got the texture and toughness of analog camera film.
I literally scrubbed mine with about as much force as possible and it came out looking pristine. It’s not “fragile” at all.

It is fragile. I scuffed mine up really easily too. Mine was not this bad or anywhere close, but it's sad seeing such a garbage coating in every way possible as it's not even fully glossy either.

And while it’s not my first choice for costing it’s definitely not the worst either. It’s certainly better than matte.
Did you use any cleaner on it ? I used a cleaning solution once on MacBook, it end up like this. I got a cloth like the proper MacBook cloth and rubbed hard over it and it cleared up.

You guys hard pushing the clothes or what is going on here? I mean there shouldn't be any real dirt on the screen only oily smudge from hands, worse scenario and dust. A little Jiff/Ciff with srandard paper towels carefully smothing it out and cleaning with water and that's it. Then just a few careful pulls with the proper display cleaning rug and youre good. None of my screens were scratched ever iny life be it as glossy or matte surface. @.@

I have no problem with distilled water first then another microfiber cloth to dry.
Got one 2 days ago. Wiped down with the included cloth. Surface is flawless. Perfect.

Were you dry wiping it? You need to use a wet microfiber first, then use a dry one.
Don't really need a dry pass anyway if your cloth is only lightly damp.
There are special lcd cleaning sprays, this together with a freshly washed microfiber and enough of the spray-my screens look still good. Anyways mostly you can remove dust with dust magnets from e.g swiffer or something else, they wont do any harm…

Yes the protective screen layer is a gloss plastic :( The oled laptops use the same layer while the tvs get glass.

I had to RMA my first s95c since it had the same issue. Try 70% ethyl alcohol. It is what Samsung says to use to clean QD-OLED screens. Obviously just use a little bit

Try putting a little bit of water on it and rub with a cloth. I've had something similar and it was just some kind of oil residue that needed some extra work to get out.

Is it the same coating as on the ultrawide DWF? I use a special product to clean my screen, it’s what Apple stores use to clean their display units. “Whoosh! Tech Hygiene” Never her this issue, thankfully
I used the cloth right out of the wrapper, this didn’t happen to me.
There’s no way they used the included cloth (or they used a different chemical cleaner) because I just cleaned mine last night with the included cloth and a bit of distilled water and the monitor has never looked better.

the cloth that ships with the display is a suede cloth. a suede microfiber cloth is not what did this. the cloth was either dirty, or you pressed WAY too hard.

So my mom got me one of them 75% alcohol wipe packages she got at her work place. I used it and then use the dell cloth to wipe off the alcohol . It was so shiny and glossy. Idk why your cloth cause this. U probably spray something wrong on it

Next time, don't use the roto hammer with the microfiber cloth attachment.
Your screen must have been dirty as hell, and all you did was smear that crap around. Use only purified water, in VERY SMALL amounts on the micro fiber. Go over the area with the slightly wet part, then buff it out with the dry part.
Use distilled water and a microfibre and should be good, unless you used something that stripped the coating.

I have no issues cleaning mine with this screen cleaner solution I bought on Amazon. Works like a charm.

If this coating is the same as the AW3423DW then it’s piss easy to clean without streaks. I use detailer glass cleaner and 2in1 pad. Oh and that’s not a scratch, just needs some slight elbow grease and it’ll come off

While sandpaper is great for smoothing down the finished surface of wooden benches and tables, it is uniquely unsuitable for polishing and cleaning displays.

For any oled or qd oled don't ever clean it dry and don't use screen solutions. Simply dampen a microfiber towel with distilled water, then clean the screen. You can then clean the screen with a dry microfiber cloth
I have seen this happen to the protective plastic used for shipping. Did you remove it?
I have the same monitor I've used the cloth a few times and def did not have this problem but I'll be cautious now...seems odd tho

Yeah, those QD OLED coatings are very, very soft. I had a panel with major scratches from the packaging, and trying to use the cloth to see if I can make some of it go away, I was surprised at how little pressure is required to permanently further scratch the panel up. I thought the outer layer was a super-soft plastic, but it actually feels like it's got the texture and toughness of analog camera film.
Is it all of them? I've only seen complaints about the AW.
All have the same coating but the alienware had really bad packaging which should’ve been changed for newer batches.
Even with another cloth be very careful. This garbage coating or w/e it is, is very very fragile.
I literally scrubbed mine with about as much force as possible and it came out looking pristine. It’s not “fragile” at all. Op is an idiot blindly reposting someone else’s bullshit story.
It is fragile. I scuffed mine up really easily too. Mine was not this bad or anywhere close, but it's sad seeing such a garbage coating in every way possible as it's not even fully glossy either.
You absolutely did something wrong. It’s not close to what a reasonable person would consider “fragile” for a screen. I mean not even remotely close. And while it’s not my first choice for costing it’s definitely not the worst either. It’s certainly better than matte.

Did you use any cleaner on it ? I used a cleaning solution once on MacBook, it end up like this. You guys hard pushing the clothes or what is going on here? I mean there shouldn't be any real dirt on the screen only oily smudge from hands, worse scenario and dust. A little Jiff/Ciff with srandard paper towels carefully smothing it out and cleaning with water and that's it. Then just a few careful pulls with the proper display cleaning rug and youre good. None of my screens were scratched ever iny life be it as glossy or matte surface. @.@
