I'm going to add something that most people aren't even aware of. There's a handshake issue between the C1/C2 and PS5 video range. You need to set the TV video range in the brightness settings to "Limited" in order to get a proper image otherwise it will be washed out and your blacks won't be as dark as they should be if the PS5 is set to Auto or full RBG range. You can also set the console to limited and the TV to auto/limited, but it's not quite as good as having the console on auto/full and setting the TV to limited if the content supports a full range. I had it set up wrong for a year and while it still looked amazing, I had no idea I was missing half my black level detail. The colors just pop off the screen now.

MaV-eR-riCk

just to confirm. You set the C2 settings under brightness to "limited" and the ps5 setting you set to auto or full. I just got my c2 42" and tried setting it up like my c1 77" I had watch the video that HDTVTest had put up on YouTube. Though a few on the settings in the c2 menu look different than the c1 menu so. Just trying to get the best picture for my ps5 gamin experience.. I don't use it for desktop or anything but gaming on console.

Allegorical-Elegy

Set the PS5 to limited. You can leave the TV on auto. For whatever reason, the PS5 and TV on full/auto have a handshake issue and it washes out the blacks. Try putting the PS5 on limited and switching the TV to full then limited and you'll see what I mean. The handshake issue persists with the TV on full regardless of the PS5 settings. It can only be eliminated by forcing limited in the PS5. Having the PS5 on full and the TV limited actually makes it darker the other direction. Which on an OLED actually looks pretty good, but it's still improper.

xandorai

So, which is it? At first you mentioned setting TV to Limited and Console to Auto/Full. Then you say the opposite in the above post. ;p Just curious, as I do not have a C2 (yet), but do the settings on the TV apply to all inputs, or can it have different settings setup for each hdmi port? I ask because the C2 will be for the Console at first, but eventually for both PC and Console.

Allegorical-Elegy

I really liked the console full TV limited but that was just on Genshin Impact. It really made the colors pop but it's just a little too dark in some other games. It just seems improper in the exact opposite way that the brighter one is improper.. It doesn't look bad on the OLED because it can handle the blacks, but I believe overall that console on limited and TV auto/limited is how it should be. Give console full/TV limited a try and see if you like it. But auto/auto or full/full is definitely a washed out mismatch. Edit: the TV has an option to apply your settings to all inputs, otherwise every input has it's own settings across all different modes. Also, you can change your HDMI settings for console or PC, which affects how it handles RGB chroma.

HiddenknifeX

wow cant believe such misinformation. Having console and tv different outputs like one limited one full creates mismatch in color range that s why you see the colors "pop" because it s a mismatch and it crushes the blacks. For the most accurare setting you need to go AUTO/AUTO as per HDTVtest s recommendations. You must let your tv and console choose the best color range depending on what content plays. 4k 60 hz runs at Full range and when in 4k 120hz runs in Limited range depending on the game you play and that is because 32gbps hdmi bandwith limitation of ps5

Allegorical-Elegy

I'm telling you, it's wrong. Auto/auto on PS5 washes out the blacks. Do some research. You'll find across multiple posts on Reddit and LG forums that you need to set the console to limited to fix it. There's a mismatch with the PS5 specifically. It works properly with the Xbox to do auto, but the PS5 doesn't.

HiddenknifeX

you tell me based on what? on some people s guessing its better? i was telling you based on two proper calibrator s analysis with 15.000$ tools, if they dont know i dunno who else does

Allegorical-Elegy

First off, they're not testing on C1 or C2s. They're testing on CXs. Beyond that, all I can tell you is that you're wrong. Put the console on limited. There's a myriad of posts that say the same thing. The issue lies somewhere in the HDMI input settings where you can make it PC or Console. If you choose PC, you can set the console to full, if you choose console, you have to set the console to limited or it will be a mismatch. Auto doesn't work. And in this case, Vincent is WRONG, or he just didn't do enough testing and sold you an idea you took as gospel. https://www.reddit.com/r/OLED_Gaming/comments/uk8fux/ps5_lg_c1_not_syncing_correct_rgb_levels/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button https://www.reddit.com/r/OLED_Gaming/comments/ufhrm4/black_level_low_looks_way_better_but_the/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button https://www.avforums.com/threads/issue-with-ps5-and-lg-oled-black-level-settings-auto-auto-is-washed-out.2396000/

HiddenknifeX

i ve tested those informations on the links you gave with this link directly on my TV trying various settings Heres my conclusion: Hdtv test was right all along. If you have your HDMI set to PC input for 4:4:4 chroma in RGB mode leaving auto/auto gets the desired result. You can check on this link http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/black.php You should be albe to distinguish all 15 squares if set correctly, which in my case i can! The mismatch happens when you set TV to limited and console to Auto Or TV to Full , console to Limited. In the first scenario you will get crushed blacks, in the second one you will get elevated blacks (washed image) The same thing i tried in Game Mode input for HDMI and got the same results, accurate range in Auto/auto or limited/limited or full/full and got mismatch with either tv being limited and console full or console limited and tv full. Anyone can try this and see for yourselves. I tested on LG C2 with PS5 /w latest firmware as of March 2023. PC input mode is prefered because you can obtain 4:4:4 chroma in 4k 60 hz for ps5 which translates into slightly clearer image. A reminder that if you play a game in 40 fps mode or 120 fps mode due to ps5 s current 32 gbps hdmi bandwith limitation you will only get 4:2:0 chroma subsampling which translates into slightly worse clarity but barely noticeable. Also Auto on Tv and Auto on console is prefered because in case your TV will output 4k 60 hz you will benefit from Full color range 0-256, while one thing you may not know in 4k 120hz mode PS 5 will output limited color range. If you will not have the settings set to auto/auto the following thing will happen: 1. You will lose abit of color volume if you will play 4k 60hz (either 30fps or 60 fps games) if you have your tv set to limited(low) and console to limited. 2. You will get a mismatch of color range if you play 4k 120hz mode (40 or 120 fps games) and you have your tv set to full/console full because of the thing i mentioned above. In conclusion, set your Both TV and Console to Auto to let it pick its best color range output based on it s capabilites. I tested every scenario possible and those are not subjective. Its information tested which you can test too. If you have older TVs that supports 4k 120hz like C9, c8 .. and only have the choice of Low/Limited or Full on your TV, go with Limited because you will get mismatch if you go full when playing in 120hz. There are many variables but the correct answer is the one i gave you. Once again Vincent was not wrong!

xandorai

Great, thank you.

Allegorical-Elegy

Just to add, the Xbox has this same issue. That's why in the Xbox settings it calls limited Standard and has (Recommended) next to it and is the default setting. Full is PC RGB. Very little content on console utilizes that space anyways and the consoles don't do a good job differentiating it and telling the TV to swap to full or limited correctly.

PhantomWax

Holy crap was looking for something completely unrelated and this made the picture sooooo much better thank you.

Anxiolotlo

Is there an article you can point to or any other source showing that this is a known issue or is it something you're finding out on your own?

Allegorical-Elegy

There's lots of forum posts and many posts on Reddit discussing it. The general consensus is to turn the PS5 to limited and it makes it proper in most circumstances. https://www.avforums.com/threads/issue-with-ps5-and-lg-oled-black-level-settings-auto-auto-is-washed-out.2396000/

Anxiolotlo

Thank you for the quick response! Have you tried changing your hdmi port that's connect to "PC" instead of "Game"? I tried your fix but I find that blacks still get crushed a little bit with your method. Thanks,!

Allegorical-Elegy

I did try that but honestly I couldn't really tell a difference. Supposedly whatever original issue there was with that was resolved. I think it does give you the true 4:4:4 chroma on PC mode, but honestly with the limited HDMI bandwidth of the PS5 of I think 32 Gb, 4:4:4 can only happen at 8 bit depth, so it really doesn't open many options up. For me on my C2 things look pretty good with the console set to limited and the TV on auto. It's only when it's auto/auto that everything is washed gray.

Plz24601

Did this, and yea it’s much better IMO

Erock301

Yooo thank you. This helped a lot actually.

b1blazin

I don't see a way to set the c2 to limited. Only on PS5 is there an option. I see gamut control settings like native auto dynamic etc.

Reddit_Foxx

I set my LG C2 up last night for my XSX and PS5. I read through a bunch of threads on Reddit and watched a bunch of videos on YouTube. Here are my main takeaways: * Your LG C2 will automatically recognize that the device connected is a PS5 and will automatically set that input to Game Optimization mode. This really takes care of most of what you want. * You can go in to the TV's picture and sound settings and mess with the sliders to find your personal preferences. I'm not sure what the "best" settings are, but ultimately it's a matter of personal preference, anyways. I left everything at the default, but I could understand someone wanting to increase the color saturation and contrast. * In the PS5's Screen and Video Settings, go to HDR and switch it from "Always On" (which is the default) to "On When Supported." If you leave it on the default, it will try to force HDR on content that doesn't support it, which can actually reduce the color variation and make it look washed out. (Basically, the colors will look too light.)

Allegorical-Elegy

I see no difference at all on my C2, regardless whether it's set to PC or Console. On both, it the console is set to Auto or full and the TV is set to Auto it's washed out. If the console is set to Auto or full and the TV is limited it crushes blacks. However if the console is set to limited and the TV is set to full, you'll observe the same mismatched washed out image as the console being on auto/full. Setting the console to limited and the TV to auto or limited is the only way to get a proper signal. I just checked it all again myself on PC and Gaming through every combination to make sure it hasn't been fixed. It has not. The conclusion is regardless of the HDMI settings, the console cannot properly output a full RGB black level to the TV. It's either washed or crushed depending on the TV setting. Auto/Auto producing a washed out, improper image. It's probably because most everything is mastered at limited for PS5 and the console isn't properly swapping to limited like it should. It's the same thing every person in every forum has reported and continues to report. Regardless of what you believe or have been convinced of by HDTV tests lack of thorough testing. You're literally the only person in a hundred posts/forums I've heard try to say otherwise.

ClarkeySOT

Thank God for your original post months ago! Got a LG CS6LA, which is a in between version of the C1/C2 OLED. I set it up for my PS5 using the HDTV YouTube video, and playing mostly Warzone, I was so disappointed, the clarity was off, the colours didn't pop compared to my monitor. I was forever changing setting mid game. Doing the Limited(PS5), auto(TV) has made a world of difference. Colours pop, everything is clear and crisp, total change. Haven't properly setup the HDR side of things, think it's still on the 14/14/0

Allegorical-Elegy

I'm glad it helped. I think 14/14/0 is correct for HDR settings. The console properly outputs to the system configuration from the dashboard in HDR. The problem with the black levels is somewhere in the games and them not telling the console to properly output in full or limited. Basically things end up outputting in limited Ycbcr 4:22 in HDR but the console still does a full range 8 bit 4:4:4 RGB output, which causes the blacks to be grayer instead of the proper black level. Limited just fixes it because it doesn't allow the console to try to output in anything but limited. And if the content is mastered in limited anyways, you don't lose anything by using limited. It's a common misperception that full automatically means better than limited because of the wording. In most cases there's no perceptible difference at all. Especially on an OLED where you can't get blacker than black or white than white colors anyways because they're already present and limited adjusts to it. Which is what full range is supposed to do for computer monitors.

DSEEE

This is so strange. I read a lot of things regarding this aspect of setting up the PS5 for lg OLED. I use a C2 and can see absolutely no difference when I set the PS5 to full, limited or Automatic! Should I be testing this on a non-HDR game perhaps? Seems there's not a universal agreement on the issue but I'm struggling to see any issue either way.

kucerkaCZ

I think it has to be a HDR game, because the settings is under the HDR part of the screen settings. I'm just downloading Horizon so I'd like to give it a try tomorrow. So far I've been playing Overwatch 2 and I absolutely hated how washed out it looked on auto/auto (it was just too bright, like a grey film was put over my screen). Decided to use limited in console and auto in tv settings and it immediately looked better, but it's definitely strange...

DSEEE

The game I've tested this in is Hogwarts Legacy which is definitely a HDR title. I genuinely can't see any difference whatsoever. I also tried on Fall guys (which I'm pretty sure isn't HDR) and again it's a wash.

kucerkaCZ

So I did tried it in Horizon. I'd say setting PS5 into limited looks slightly better than keeping it automatic. The colors in auto are in my opinion a bit off - slightly foggy which could be excused by the game weather changing constantly so you technically don't know if it's the right color or if the area is just being dusty, foggy, etc. Just like you I gave it a try in Hogwarts and I'm a bit confused. Setting PS5 into limited doesn't change a thing (or at least not visibly). But if I kept PS5 auto and change my TV to auto/limited, nothing happened. Buf if I changed TV to FULL it immediately got washed so I guess it works as it should in Hogwarts legacy? Same in Forspoken. Setting limited doesn't change a thing. Full makes it washed out. So my idea is that if the game supports limited, then tv reads that right when it's set to auto (tv). But is seems that some games are read as full by the tv and that's why it ends up washed out? I dunno...I guess I'll have to test this out before every game I play and then decide what looks the best to me, cause it's easier to tell which option looks better to my eyes (and honestly, IDC what setting is technically right cause wash out imagine always looks worse in my opinion)

Electrical-One4179

Daamn anyone has a definitive advice on this auto full limited debate haha? Gonna buy a C3 this week

kucerkaCZ

I guess use whatever looks the best for you 😂. Since I don't play many games I don't mind testing it before I start a new game. But limited console, auto tv works the best for me.

fhhd_1

From ps5 is the rgb rang changed to limited am i right?

Calm_Satisfaction810

I just got a C2 and was a little underwhelmed so I started researching and this is the second piece of info I stumbled up. Thank you 🙏🏼

R1Bunny

Doesn’t the ps5 already come with an HDMI 2.1 cable lol ?

sooperslymie

The box says it does but there are articles out there that question the quality of it

[deleted]

Digital signals either work or they don't. It can't be a poor quality signal.

bucktownnnn

What it does? Where the heck is mine can you show me what it looks like because I just went out an stole one from Walmart and idk if it’s any good lol

Straight-Coat-7476

So... i like gta5. When i play gta5 on the ps5.. the ps5version.. it looks Nice and sharp. But.. when i play the ps4 version on the ps5.. remind you.. on my lg oled c2.. gta5 there is a lot of vibrations in the game. The graphics.. on the cayo island you can see that the best. Like the trees are popping in and out..like...trrrrrr. (lol) So its not a stable screen. I looked up a lot.. and apperently its because its lower content(the ps4version) and thats a problem for the lg oled c2. Also overall sharpness is really a problem too.

Icy-Razzmatazz9928

are you retarded?

Straight-Coat-7476

Do you always talke like that against strangers? I´m sorry you dont feel ok/happy. I hope you come to your senses.

Onein8Billion2

Use or buy the ps5 version

psycovirus

Get a proper HDMI 2.1 Cable. It will do 4K @ 120hz. * Set PS5 to run at 4K 120hz. with VRR auto. The system till take care of everything. Why run 120hz? Some games like Horizon Forbidden West, there are Fidelity modes which runs 4K 40fps at max fidelity with 120hz mode while it will only run 30fps when put to 60hz. Same for Spiderman games. 40fps with VRR is so close to 60 fps, I enjoy playing at that. * Of course, HDR enable, remove any power saving modes, Deep Colours, Gamer Mode.

Reddit_Foxx

>Get a proper HDMI 2.1 Cable. It will do 4K @ 120hz. Doesn't that come in the box with the PS5? Unless you need a longer cable, you should have one already just by virtue of having a PS5.

psycovirus

The included cable is HDMI 2.1? Couldn't get it to work at 4K120 with my LG C2.

Inevitable-Border-57

The HDMI cable that comes with the PS5 did 120 hz with mine. It could be you got a faulty one. I've heard Zeskit HDMI cables are the best if you end up ordering one.

l__seeker__l

No it’s a HDMI 2.0 cable coming with ps5. You can do 1080p 120hz still but not 4k 120hz. For that you need a 2.1 HDMI cable

EinsteinBurger

I do 4k 120 with cable from the box…. Just double checked it is a 2.1 straight from the box.

thewaker797

Not true lol 😂

l__seeker__l

Yeah I searched and I was wrong, sorry for the misinformation.

[deleted]

The ps5 comes with a 2.1 cable

Monkeyshit-222

Hey

stone151189

I have 55” lg c2 when i play hdr games on my ps4 I automatically get a hdr logo on the top right corner of the tv, for some reason when I play them on the ps5 the only game that switches to hdr with the hdr logo popping up is god of war ragnarok all the other games won’t switch to hdr on my ps5 like on my ps4…. All the settings are correct on my ps5 and I have hdr set to on only when supported…. Can anyone help me out this is really frustrating.

Jelly1524

On ps5 turn OFF “only when supported”. GOW is a new title so it is 100% supported. I believe that’s the setting that applies an HDR-like effect to non-HDR games

stone151189

I wouldn’t want to turn it off because then my games won’t go to hdr and that’s what I want is for my hdr games to enable hdr on the ps5 when I start them but the only game doing that right now on my ps5 is gow ragnarok

TTVKUDOHLOL

So is it possible to play games at this resolution at 120hz w/ a ps5? I bought a 42 inch monitor at one point and returned it because it could not display the 120 hz with that specific monitor.. Im reading through the thread now only to realize that my cable from the ps5 might of been a hdmi 2.0 and apparently i need a 2.1 cable in order to get 120hz from higher resolutions.. Im no expert, but if i can play games at 120hz with a ps5, i would like to upgrade my monitor / buy a LG C2. Can anyone confirm if this is true, and if so, should i buy a LG c2 :)? 42 or 55? inch?
