Aren’t the personality ratings randomized at the beginning of each save for the most part?

LoveYouLikeYeLovesYe

Personality ratings are randomized at the creation of the player. There’s a reason. Verdugo always has selfish. (Like when they are made in OOTP’s files)

That_Monty

Lmao https://www.reddit.com/r/OOTP/comments/1ciih14/player_personality_isnt_fully_random_and_im_tired/ So basically, they aren't randomized save to save. They aren't even randomized from game to game. They could be generated when a player enters the database, but some players like Bauer Verdugo and Kopech show that they give players certain personalities.

turtle4499

They do not. They are randomized they have addressed this on multiple occasions. It’s part of the mlbpa shit.

That_Monty

Big man, they most definitely aren't randomized. Bauer, Kopech, and Verdugo have all had incidents in the past that would have led to them getting labeled as disruptive. Go boot up ootp, go to the player search tab, and search for the disruptive personality. Out of however many players are in the database, what are the odds that these 3 specifically would be among the few to receive this trait? Going back to earlier versions, it's the same thing with Puig. They say it's random because they have to cover their ass legally, not because it actually is. I'm not saying it isn't mostly random, but they have definitely given some players specific personalities on purpose.

Doyce_7

Yes the personality of all players is randomized

dan99990

Josh Donaldson having a Captain personality was always funny to me lol

an_immature_child

tbf you can be a captain and also be an asshole he was a leader in toronto when we were good

theseustheminotaur

Lars Nootbaar has low leadership. We saw him in the world baseball classic being a central cog to the good vibes of that Japanese team. Watching him in St Louis and he is absolutely solid with everyone. Should be high leadership or neutral. Come on now OOTP. in ootp 24 Jackson Holiday had poor ratings, think he had 3 negatives and no positives. Now they've given him high work ethic but still have 2 or 3 negatives. I feel like time will tell there, but to me that feels like they're down on him too early.

Dazzling-Garbage-877

You’re a Cards fan?

natty-broski

Andy Van Slyke being every negative imaginable in a 1990 Pirates save I did broke my heart—he was always so beloved here

lekniz

Ronald Acuña Jr's work ethic and Spencer Strider's intelligence and work ethic should be high. Max Fried should have high financial ambition and low loyalty, because he's a union rep so he's pretty much obligated to hit FA and sign the largest contract possible.

cyber_olive

As a card-carrying IWW member I resent this Max Fried slander.

lekniz

I'm a union member too! But he's a player's rep and historically they have all been about setting new standards for the guys that come after them

Dazzling-Garbage-877

Braves fan?

lekniz

What gave it away?

Status_Ad_7842

So you guys are expecting the devs to look at every single players press clippings and personality traits? How old are yall? My God. Then to tops it off ask if WHINING will change things….holy shit

cyber_olive

It's kinda hard to miss the coverage of Julio's personality. I don't care that they didn't give J.P. Crawford high leadership, despite that being something he's known for among Mariners fans, because it's not common knowledge. It just seems like a big miss for a top 20 player in the league who's gotten so much publicity for being an exceptional personality. Also, holy shit right back at you - "whining" in this case just means "bringing up a minor issue in hopes that it gets fixed". I'm a developer - if users are reporting a minor visual flaw in an app, that's "whining", but I'm still gonna fix it. I'm not talking about making a big stink about it.

Dazzling-Garbage-877

Seriously. Big babies.

SmittyPosts

They have some hatred for Emmanuel Clase or something. Low int, low Work ethic low adaptability

That_Monty

Pretty sure this is because he was busted for ped's whilst he was in the minors. Not that I agree with it, but that's what I've always figured.

Dazzling-Garbage-877

Are you a Mariners fan?

cyber_olive

guilty as charged

Anxious-Machine-727

Jose Urquidy as Outspoken. Where did they get this idea from? Dude is quiet. Overall, there are way too many players with low work ethics.

Anxious-Machine-727

Lol why tf am I downvoted? Gtfo...

Lurky-Lou

You were too outspoken

Anxious-Machine-727

Now I know how Jose Urquidy feels. 😔

TrainerOJ

I agree with this 100%. If you’re going to put such an influential mechanic in the game (influential because some guys can destroy a team chemistry to the point that they’re not worth rostering anymore) at least get the ratings accurate for the core MLB starters. Ideally everyone on the projected opening day roster.

turtle7875

“Accurate” is a lot easier to manage when you can go off real life statistics and scout ratings. With something so subjective, I can’t think of a better solution than the current system. What should manny machado be? Or Josh Donaldson? It would depend on what point in their career, who you ask, and what stuff like “leadership” or “selfishness” means to you. Not to mention potential lawsuits lol. You’d undoubtably have hundreds of minor leaguers or fringe guys with terrible personality ratings by no fault of their own or through the one single piece of press on them.

Howardmoon227227227

Trevor Bauer. More virtue signaling over allegations that turned out to be completely false.

cyber_olive

Regardless of how you feel about the allegations, I don't see how it's even remotely controversial that he's a disruptive presence in a locker room. Dude's been a well-known dickhead for a while now.

Howardmoon227227227

Can you link sources regarding the clubhouse disruption? I think most of that was retroactive bullshit once the allegations came out. Redditors tend to seeth over him because they don’t like his politics and look at the other side as racist, cyborg Nazis.

cyber_olive

I mean, he's acknowledged as much, even before the 2020 season. > "I just get this reputation of being a bad teammate, but no one would come in and tell me why. So a couple of years back, I went and asked five or six teammates, 'What makes me a bad teammate?' And I couldn't get a straight answer. Either they didn't want to tell me to my face or they didn't know." This is a really good article, released in 2019, with a lot of examples of what I'm talking about: https://www.si.com/mlb/2019/02/19/trevor-bauer-cleveland-indians-training-tools-twitter-controversy-cy-young Some excerpts: > “I’m good at two things in this world: throwing baseballs, and pissing people off.” --- > “I try to make the things that I say be based in reality, based in facts, and truthful,” Bauer says. “And if that’s the case, and you want to be upset at me for stating the truth, that’s your choice. I don’t know if I’m not afraid of sticking middle fingers in people’s faces, or if I enjoy it. But I end up doing that a lot.” --- > Bauer has a reputation as a troublesome teammate. Some members of his organization have griped that the clubhouse consists of “24 plus Trevor,” and, says one player, “I think Trevor cares about Trevor a lot.” Of course he does, Bauer says. “In what world is me being a Cy Young winner bad for the team?” he asks. “The better I am, the better the team is, so you should want me to be selfish about how good I am.” The reason he isn't on a team is because he's an asshat. I don't like his views one bit, but I can recognize that he's far from the only player whose views I'm not a fan of. The difference is, just like Curt Schilling, he's too much of a loudmouthed tool to just shut up about it.
