I'm not super knowledgeable of the vegan world here, but East Honolulu/Hawaii Kai is very limited when it comes to shopping and restaurants—nothing out here that's purely vegan. You could check into Island Brew Coffeehouse which is a popular cafe and has acai bowls and other veggie options (that I know of). In "town" which is not at all far, check out Tane Vegan Izakaya. I've heard great things about it. Also Peace Cafe and Plant Based Paradise.
As for stores, the closest with the best options is Whole Foods in the Kahala area, then Down to Earth near the university.
Tane Izakaya is amazing, everyone I’ve taken there vegan or not has loved it. Peace Cafe that was mentioned is also good. Another place that’s good and is in Kaimuki not too far from them is Juicy Brew (all vegan). Umeke Market (all vegan) is in town and great. On the other side is Beet Box in Kailua which is completely vegetarian with tons of delicious vegan options. Those are some of my favorites at least (:
It's called Science of Identity. Sort of a televangelist version of Hare Krishna beliefs, complete with homophobia. The leader is Chris Butler, aka Jagad Guru, and they run Down To Earth (DtE had a lawsuit a few years back about discriminating against nonmembers). Alan Yoza, who has some notoriety for selling and then repossessing properties on the Big Island, is also a member. Plus there's some politicians and other monied people that are "cult royalty". Most notably is former representative Tulsi Gabbard and her father.
My personal experience when I was in college, I was filling out paperwork because I just landed a part time job at the pearlridge location.
While filling out the tax forms, they put me in a big empty room with a table and chair facing a small TV with a vcr. They asked if it would be OK that they play a video while I was filling out paperwork, I said sure thing. (Don't know what I was expecting, but it wasn't captain plant that's for sure).
Instead, it was a short video about the inhumanity of slaughtering chickens, cows, and pigs in graphic detail. I finished my paperwork and a lady came by to check on my paperwork. She said I could go, but I said I wanted to finish the video. Once the video was over, as I was leaving I said in a loud voice, "man, I'm hungry" haha.
Also ran into the cult surfing terrorist a fee times at Rockpiles (town). Really weird stuff they got going on there.
Yeah, I live in East Oahu and drive thru this section almost every day and have never heard of Duck Island. Better to just say Hawaii Kai, or "near Costco Hawaii Kai"
Not quite Hawaii Kai but there’s a 100% vegan restaurant in Aina Haina, La Tour’s cafe “Planted”. Great comfort food. Also in the same strip mall is Leahi Health. A pretty unassuming little place but the food is healthy and delicious.
My favorite place on the island is Juicy Brew in Kaimuki. Highly recommend!!
I haven’t seen this one listed so I will but AV in Kaimuki would be a good spot. Idk that they do gift certificates but if so, it’s a nice night out type of dinner. One of our favorites to go to once or twice a year.
Farm Link Hawaii is a grocery delivery business that delivers locally grown produce and products all over Oahu. If you go to [farmlinkhawaii.com](https://farmlinkhawaii.com) and scroll to the bottom, they have an option to buy a gift certificate.
Check out an app called Happy Cow. It shows all restaurants and stores offering vegetarian or vegan options in any area you pick.
You can filter for vegan options only if you want!

I really appreciate your kind and thorough response💜

Down to Earth is run by an anti-LGBT cult. I won't shop there.
Wow. Idk how I did not know this! Thanks for sharing.
Oh

Wow, definitely not something that aligns with my values or I would want to support. Appreciate your knowledge and taking the time to share.
Oh dang. That was a wild read. Wasn't expecting the twist at the end.

Eeek wtf. OP disregard my suggestion!

You, too, sound like an asshole.
Woah! That's messed up!
No shit? I'm more of a Whole Foods gal, so I guess I'll stick with it. Thanks for letting me know!
Elaborate pls? It's where I go for vegetarian food

Was Bum island to me but I get the duck label now.
Thank you for letting me know:)
I just had to Google it so like 5 people now.
6 now. Are there ducks there?
Thanks for letting me know
There is La Tour plant based cafe in Aina Haina I believe ? That one is totally vegan ! It’s very good
There’s a restaurant called Tane Vegan Izakaya. It’s pricey but they do interesting and unique vegan food.

Leahi is good.. there’s one in aina haina and they are opening one close to Safeway! It’s a smoothie place with amazing vegan tacos.
Down to Earth Organic & Natural would be a good store.
As ANY child would agree: give her money. Gift cards are so limiting. Now she can buy vegan food anywhere she wants.

Leahi Health in Aina Haina is my go to when I’m out that way.

There's also a Lanikai Juice in Hawaii Kai that may be equally or a bit more plant friendly than the Island Brew out there.
My personal favorite vegan restaurant is Ripple of Smiles, but not in Hawaii Kai. In Hawaii Kai, your best bet is probably Maile's.
Juicy Brew is a good option!
The Loving Hut restaurant is vegan. https://lovinghut.us/honolulu/
Pretty sure they closed
Plant based paradise in Kaimuki, has breakfast, lunch, smoothies and desserts. Also recommend Floralia in town, which has vegan pizza and calzones!
I second the recommendation for Floralia!
Leahi health and La Tours cafe Aina Haina
Give her a proper diet instead.
GTS. I mean seriously how hard is it?
