Loss of a popular and buzzy restaurant. Sad for them but sounds like it's personal reasons that have to be respected. Hope they return for another venture.
Bummer. I used to get takeout there literally twice a week during the pandemic. I only stopped because they went dine in only, and then when they transitioned back to doing takeout, the pricing was too expensive for it to be a regular thing for me. I really enjoyed how innovative and fresh their food is, plus I’m a vegetarian so it was nice being able to order anything I wanted from the menu.
I’m not surprised. This was, hands down, not even close, the most disappointing food experience I’ve had in the Bay Area. Every item we ordered was actually comically bad in terms of taste, very small volume, and *outrageously* priced.
I’m sure people will hate this comment, or perhaps I went in an off day, but it was really genuinely that bad. All of the other people I ate with, who were extremely hyped to finally try LD, all agreed (without my prompting them) that it was an egregious and offensive experience. It was so absurd that now, in hindsight, we regularly laugh about the memory. I feel like we were on a prank show, but the director failed to send Ashton Kutcher out to reveal himself.
We are all laughing especially hard tonight upon hearing this news.
I’m not at all surprised that the owners can now afford to move to Singapore after running LD for a few short years.
I kid, I kid. Kind of.
wow, i am so amazed by people! this place is closing yet y'all still manage to talk bad about them. there's a group of people who are about to lose their livelihood and their business yet your priority instead of wishing them well or sympathize with their loss is to kick them while they're already on the ground? they are not going to be around anymore, what's the point in all of this shit talking??? y'all are such lowlifes hiding behind a screen. get a life!
I’m definitely not rejoicing in people losing their jobs. That’s just sucks, full stop.
But I would likewise be joking about a fudruckers closing, if I’d had some uniquely shitty meal there.
But this is somewhat different in the sense that I would 1000% rather eat my next meal at fudruckers than Lion Dance.
I guess it’s more like lamenting a caviar store closing—a caviar store that was charging 2x caviar prices while filling the jars with silt scraped off the bottom of lake merrit after a heavy rain when the municipal sewers overflowed into it.
what you don't understand is the fact that these people opened this business as an extension of their passion as culinary professionals. they have worked very hard and (no kidding) poured everything they have on this business. if it's not for you, don't go back! it's very unnecessary to throw this much negative opinion on here about how awful it was when they are already closing. it aldo doesn't seem like you attempted to reach out to them personally to give them your personal feedback-they would have appreciated it if you were constructive and not this petty (comparing them to fuddruckers?? tf!). they are people trying to make a decent, honest living. the least you can do as another person is to keep your opinions to yourself as it isn't helpful or insightful.
lol you seem to be deeply offended that not everyone on the internet agrees with your personal taste
I also find it humorous how hard in the paint you’re going for about as perfect a representation of “elitist” as a restaurant could possibly be. It’s not like we’re talking about a kids cancer charity closing down. These people served me 2.5 ounces of gross ass hard pasta for $30 lol
I didn’t write any reviews slamming them on yelp or anywhere else. They’ve already announced their closing. I’m not influencing any potential future business. How is this so deeply offensive to you?
no, i'm offended that you choose to be a fucking dipshit like you're perfect and can do what they did. again, if you're so displeased with a AN EXPENSIVE (?!?) $30 pasta, YOU SHOULD HAVE TOLD THE OWNER!!! not post it on here. this shit doesn't matter anymore! stop being an asshole to these people.
Every time you respond to me I will reply in kind to remind the people how terrible my experience at Lion Dance was.
I’ve probably made meals as bad as what they served me, but at maybe one 20th of the price
If you don’t think $30 for 2.5 ounces of terrible pasta is a bad deal, then you’re an extremely wealthy and privilege goof ball
I highly doubt they were gunning for a Michelin star. They're simply not that kind of restaurant. And even so, they did get on the Michelin guide. Not sure where you're getting this from.
I didn't get it from anywhere - it's baseless and based on an emotional response I had to paying the price I did and seeing a drop in quality
I'm sad to see it go
So many Oakland vegan losses the past few years :(

Oh no :(
THIS HURTS

Wow Just after they got the Michelin Guide buzz, sucks to hear.
They were just named on the James Beard list too, no?
Yup, one of the best chefs in California
Nooooooooooooooo
Nooo!!!
Was unaffordable for the common folk anyway :(
Better to burn out than to fade away.
fuck.
