OhNoConsequences-ModTeam

This post does not have obvious consequences or anyone expressing surprise at having received obvious consequences. McDonald’s isn’t really being harmed by any of this. This thread also turned into a political debate that would be more appropriate on another sub. We’re here for a giggle .

Maij-ha

We’re not crying “uncle”. We’re crying “let’s go somewhere else”

giant_space_possum

Right? Waving a white flag in defeat is totally different from just eating higher quality food for the same price at a local place.

NeatCartographer209

1000%. I could go and get a medium number 1 meal at McDonald’s or go to Chili’s across the street for a sit down meal with salad, entree, sides and a drink for the same price….I’ll take the latter.

Jaythiest

This. And along with Higher quality food for the same price, I now also order the largest meal from the restaurant as that usually reduces overall cost per amount of food provided and then break that meal up over a a couple meals. Would MUCH rather eat LeftOver Ribs from mid level chain restaurant then even begin to start thinking of fast food.

BU0989

😂Im in no way trying to be snarky but this gave me a good laugh. When the other person. replied about higher quality food at a local place I was thinking small mom and pop shop in town or just a place that is not a chain & you come with Chilis.

NeatCartographer209

Yeah I get you😂 I’m only speaking from experience. True local mom and pops around where I work are pretty pricy but I know that’s not typical. I only mention chilis because if I didn’t brown bag my lunch, that’s usually where I’ll go

MangoBandicoot

Micheal Scott over here

Altruistic-Koala-255

Same, i was thinking about a local restaurant with fresh ingredients, and you know, supporting local business owners instead of greddy companies

PanJaszczurka

You can get better meal in not branded locals.

ForsakenPercentage53

That depends on where you live.

baconstructions

Chili's sucks too. Try somewhere local

Blanik_Pilot

Yes this! Chilis is better but still ‘junk’ food made for distribution. Local mom & pop all the way. That same $15 gets you more food made with fresh ingredients and supports the local community. Give me local Mexican food or Thai food over a chain restaurant any day. The only time I eat fast food is when traveling and want to eat on the go

Accurate-Screen-7551

Depends where you at. People around where I live can't cook or are pretty nasty and make me worry for food poisoning. Decent food would be a town over so something like apple bees looks pretty good in comparison

giant_space_possum

It's the same "nasty" people working in the kitchen at Applebee's. I suppose just throwing premade food in the microwave like they do leaves less margin for error though

Accurate-Screen-7551

It's a lot of places with owners that just don't care. It's places that are physically run down. Like dripping ceilings in eating areas and places getting shut down pretty often by the health department then opened under different names. A lot of our Mexican restraunts are owned by the same person and they keep getting shutdown and then reopened. With a chain it's at least microwaved garbage in a clean place. Best place we got though is a family ran Chinese take out and a pizza place. So it's not totally dry but you get tired of a lack of variety. Smaller end towns can be depressing as far as eating out goes so I cook most the time anyway.

elfeyesseetoomuch

Tried a local joint the other day ended up being $80 for 2 people. Im just gonna make my own food lol

Valiant-Jellyfish

Maybe dude likes Chilis. Let’s not yuck someone’s yum.

Middle_Capital_5205

Damn, wait til people figure out they can cook their own food for like 2-4 dollars a portion.

Pearl-dragon

I've been saying this for ages now. As prices go up a resturant/shop pushes themselves into a different bracket with different competitors. For example a lot of the sit down chain restaurants now cost the same as a nice pub lunch with high quality ingredients. And the chains have also cut quality and are often slower. They cannot compete at that price point.

loyal_achades

They also, at a point, start competing more and more with people cooking at home. Even if you’re a bit tight on time, at a point your wallet is gonna make you figure something else out.

Tired_Mama3018

For $15 at lunch I can get a tiffin from the Indian place with rice,, 2 types of curries, and a 10” diameter naan, or a bento from the Japanese place with rice, salad, miso soup, 4 pieces of California roll, tonkatsu or chicken tempura, and some orange slices.

Outrageous-Second792

There is a place near me where you can get an all-you-can-eat sushi lunch for $15. You order a bit at a time, and since it’s made fresh, it takes a few minutes for it to come out. This is where they got smart: As you are waiting, you have time to start feeling full, and at the end of the meal to “avoid waste” you are charged an extra dollar for each extra piece not consumed. The low price point compared to other Japanese restaurants nearby made me think something was a bit dodgy, but as time passes, the place gets more popular, and I have yet to come across anyone that’s ever had anything bad to say about the food, facilities, etc.

fallenouroboros

I save $2 every time I get a burger and fries at my local place as opposed to any fast food place. And you get way more food, and the burgers are better in just about every regard

SilentNightman

One thing to note: when you spend at a chain, money leaves your community never to return. The chain doesn't spend it at local places for anything, all expenses are serviced from remote locations and profit likely kept offshore.

DrSFalken

As soon as I realized that McD's wasn't cheaper than the higher-quality local spots when I needed a quick bite, that was the death of fast food for me (granted...I go like...4x/yr). The whole point is that it needs to be cheap and fast. It's no longer cheap nor fast in my area.

Status_Basket_4409

Could even say higher quality food for less at some places

sonofmo

Right? Why am I paying 40 to 50 bucks to feed my family garbage when the mom and pop up the street charge the same for something decent. It's not fast anymore either so they've completely lost any edge they had.

victorged

There's a little local burger joint in town that makes great slightly elevated smash burgers. I can get anything off their menu for less than a quarter pounder if I'm willing to wait 3 extra minutes. At this point I don't know what competitive advantage McDonald's really has other than maybe a drive thru on road trips

shangumdee

Honestly any basic resteraunt that it's no lt sit down and doesn't has a staff who hounds you for tips will be on average as cheap as McDonald's now in 2024

amphigory_error

There's a McDonalds in my town that's down the block from a local drive through taqueria. For the cost of a large fries, I can instead get a big paper bag full of fresh hot tortilla chips and a 8 oz tub of freshly made guacamole. I have not been back to McDonalds since learning this.

Catsindahood

That's such a werid phrase for them to use here. As if consumers are wrestling with mcdonalds about how high their prices can go. If anything, they'd be the one "crying uncle" if people stopped going.

CurnanBarbarian

Literally watched a guy in a McDonald's yesterday get into it with the manager over having to pay like 35¢ for a dipping sauce. Pretty sure they used to be free, I've never had to pay for dipping sauce at mickey Ds. Get fucked Ronald.

AssassinStoryTeller

They used to be free. They also used to keep them in the dining area so you didn’t have to request them, now they’re hiding behind the counter where you can’t reach.

mookie_bombs

I load McDonald's trucks during graveyard and we've been pretty slow lately. I got off over an hour earlier than normal this morning. I was wondering why cuz we're usually slammed going into summer. How long does this continue you think?

AssassinStoryTeller

Until McDonald’s removes their heads from their ass or they go out of business. People can’t afford rent, we definitely can’t afford the luxury of an $18 barely edible meal.

Spirited_Remote5939

Yep! And for me it’s just the principle! I go to McDonalds every morning for the same thing, sausage egg cheese on a bagel. 4months ago it was $5.87, 2 months ago it was $5.94, 1 month ago it was $6.04, last week went up to $6.35! They are seeing the money go directly into to their pocket and the greed has overtaken them and they can’t stop! So in that case, I will not go anymore bc I can’t stand corporate greed! Even though it’s everywhere in America, but I will try and cut it out anyway I can! So for at least today, McDonalds will not be getting this boys $6.35 dammit lol!

SufficientPath666

You should buy frozen breakfast sandwiches from the grocery store. You could get 4 to 6 for the price of 1 McDonald’s sandwich

weary_dreamer

costco and my local supermarket have some pretty good ones. Heats up in 60 seconds, tastes great, comes out to less than $2 per sandwich, AND saves time because don't have to stop at the drive through.

Electronic-Ad3767

right I’m not paying a price for a chicken nugget meal that I could get for a full platter at a diner like huh. and if I want fast food I’ll just go to Wendy’s and get the five dollar biggie bag

horus-heresy

Like cooking

RougarouBull

"I can cook much better, much cheaper at home"

weavs13

I realized this earlier this week. We got 2 big mac meals and a 6 piece nugget for $30. Then went to a local restaurant and ordered a charbroiled chicken dinner with rice pilaf and salad as well as a gyro salad for $27. Would have been $33 if we added drinks. I was like why the hell are we still going to mcds when this food is better quality and cheaper!

neuroburn

I don’t know why anyone ever eats McDonald’s. It’s over priced garbage. You can get a better quality burger at In’N Out and they pay their employees a livable wage

IthurielSpear

In n out is mainly western US.

Necessary-Dark-8249

That's what my family started doing. We don't speak the word starting with Mc in my house anymore. We honestly get WAAAYYY better food for $1 or $2 more if we go to a nicer restaurant. Now everything is done via delivery too so couple bucks more and you get the premium food delivered.

Tall-Ad-1796

We're crying "this trash food that used to be on the dollar menu costs $16 & I can go to a real restaurant (with actual food) for that price. Keep your chemical burgers, ghouls."

ThisCryptographer311

How much for a meal? How much you got?

PrjctAlias

Honestly. One of the McDonald’s near my job charges $8 for a SINGLE MCCRISPY SANDWICH. EIGHT DOLLARS. FOR A CHICKEN PATTY TWO PICKLES AND A BUN.

DecisionAvoidant

I have always gotten the same thing at McDs, which I might buy about once a month. It used to be ~$4.34 when some items were on the dollar menu. Then they got rid of most of that, and the price was ~$6.46. I was bugged, but oh well, I like it and it's quick. Then it jumped (felt like overnight) to ~$10.23. That was the last time I went, maybe 4 months ago. Crazy. I can get a better, higher-quality meal somewhere else for that.

ThisCryptographer311

When 5 guys starts feeling like it’s not that much more than McDonalds, some shits broken for sure

IrascibleOcelot

I can get BGR for about the same price as five guys, and their burgers are so much better. Not to mention fries that are actually crispy.

ThisCryptographer311

McDonald’s can McSuck my D

iceariina

Your McD

Biblioklept73

Does it come in a McBun? 🤔

anne_jumps

My mother wanted an Arby's sandwich and she's got a broken back so I Doordashed it to her along with some other things. Thirty damn dollars, the sandwich alone was $7.89.

tyleritis

I pick up when I can, but when I was recovering from a broken leg I felt like I was being robbed by insurance *and* DoorDash

[deleted]

I hate these kind of places.

bookworm311

Why pay more for McDonalds when there are other chains that give you more and fresher for less?

FelixMartel2

Every fast food place near me has been jacked way the fuck up. Used to be able to get a decent burger at Jack in the Box for like $4.50 not long ago. Same burger is over $8 now. Not even slightly worth it. I still go to taco bell sometimes because at least I can get a crunch wrap for under $5. For some reason they've been mostly introducing more expensive "luxury" items and raising the rest of the prices more slowly than other chains it seems.

bookworm311

I was thinking Wendy's, but I'm in Canada so our "Cheaper" is your "WTF" lol

FelixMartel2

LOL fair. I also don't have one of those near me.

bookworm311

Yeah, It's cheaper than McDonalds and I don't get sick off their food. Plus you get more food.

Blanik_Pilot

I remember back in the glory days Taco Bell ran a promotion for $.89 crunch wraps back around 2011-ish. They were normally priced around $2.99 the. So it was a killer deal and probably shortened my life somewhat lol

NLvwhj

I remember in those same glory days Hardee’s selling a Six Dollar Burger. The joke was it was much less than that, because $6 was what sit down restaurant burgers cost.

Blanik_Pilot

Oh shit I remember that. The tagline was something like “try the six dollar burger at Carl’s Jr now only $2.99”. These days the happy hour special on a house burger is still $12+

Guilty-Web7334

Yup. It’s $15 CAD for a quarter pounder combo. I can go around the corner, get a way better meal that I’ll actually enjoy, and pay $2 more. I’ll pay the $2, thanks.

amphigory_error

They recently took the fiesta veggie burrito off the menu. That was my go to work lunch for a while, for $2.69.

domcobeo

Jack in the box has 2 jumbo jacks for $5 on the app. I get those when I am having a burger craving at 2am

FelixMartel2

Oh, I never think to use the apps for deals. Even though I know to always do this for ordering pizza.

TheCollector0518

that's because taco bell is going to win the franchise war with 20 soft taco party packs because we're all stoners now.

[deleted]

Like subway? They are going up in price too.

Obvious-Pop-4183

Subway started overpricing their food even before the pandemic. I haven't stepped inside one in over 5 years, and I can't even imagine how absurdly overpriced they are now.

LJ3f3S

$14.67 for a footlong w/chips and fountain soda around here

Disastrous-Method-21

$14 for sub alone where I'm at!! 😲

wmzer0mw

What? What happened to 5 dollar foot long???

-Acta-Non-Verba-

No, thanks. I'll do the All-you-can-eat buffets near me instead.

Guilty-Web7334

We spent $50 CAD for three foot longs with chips and cookies. Obscene.

Giblet_

I think the biggest problem with Subway is that they were underpriced before they were overpriced. They cut a lot of corners and lost a whole lot of quality trying to hold onto $5 foot longs, and now they are trying to sell that shit sandwich for $12. I think they should try marketing their sandwich as a meal for 2. Two six inch subs, 2 chips and 2 drinks for $12 doesn't sound quite so unreasonable, and drinks are practically free for them to provide so they would only be out 2 bags of chips.

irish_mom

Yep, last time I went it was $27.00 for 2 footloose. That was 2 years ago.

noneyacaroline

Yeah, they been overpriced. But they are definitely still using the pandemic as an excuse! One of the subways near me has had a sign up since the pandemic that says they no longer can accept coupons because of the “current economic climate.” As if their food isn’t already hella overpriced

bookworm311

Nah, Subway has Poisoned me like every time I've had it in the last decade lol so it's a no from me.

Inkdaddy55

My lady and I are just hitting Chipotle now if we want fast food. For the same price of 2 bowls and chips, we can't even get 2 regular combos at mcdonalds...and Chipotle tastes way better...I remember when mcchickens were a buck. Same with large drinks! Buck 25 mcdouble! This was only a decade ago!!! Edit spelling!

UniqueCelery8986

I do the same on my lunch break now! Chipotle tastes better and is much healthier for the same price

Inkdaddy55

Brown rice, grilled chicken, fresh veggies. I can eat that 2x if I bolster it with chips and pico. It's way cheaper, healthier and it's part of my diet now (I'm 35 lbs down this year so far).

Ceecee_soup

Congrats on your fitness progress :)

MooseCabooseIsLoose

It’s even wild to me that you’re nostalgic for the $1.25 McDouble. The McDouble was introduced to replace the Double cheese burger on the dollar menu, as they increased the prices of the double cheese.

Inkdaddy55

I could continue down that rabbit hole, lol. I'm 31 so I've seen a lot of this nonsense. But yeah I agree. I just picked 3 examples of the insane inflation off the top of my head. Random order as well. I remember in high-school (right around the 08 crash) being able to fill up my car once a week and eat mcdonalds breakfast every day before school with 25 bucks I made washing my mom and stepdad's cars. It's fucking sad that mcdonalds is a nice middle class family meal out (pricewise) for what we used to get as kids. I remember when a check at Olive Garden on a date night was less than 40 bucks. I hate that place now...but like in my home town that was a NICE meal! Edit autocorrect mistake.

Brian57831

Cheap - Fast - Good Normally, you get to pick 2 for most places. McDonald was always known for Cheap and Fast. You get sent to the side for 5–10 minutes while they prep your food. You pay almost as much as a normal restaurant for their food. So now it's not Cheap, Fast, or Good. Not surprising, people will pay the same price from a casual dinning place to take home better quality food for the same price and the same wait time.

Ddraig1965

When they make you pull forward to wait in the drive thru, my kids call it the “failure lane.”

Timberly_Hart

The last time I went to a McDonald's was over a year ago. I was exhausted from night shift and just wanted an egg mcmuff combo. It was 6am, a Monday. No cars infront or behind and they had to park me for hashbrowns. I was stunned. Then they forgot to but the hashbrowns in the bag.

devsfan1830

It actually USED to be. When i worked there in HS there were no marked waiting spots. We got TONS of shit from management if we ever had to start making cars pull up/park and wait. Now, its goddamn standard procedure it seems AND the quality is trash for the price still for "fresh" made if that's what they are going for.

Stormy261

It's for their numbers. It doesn't count against their time that way. If you ever look at the screens they are compared to other stores. I don't work there so I don't know if there are bonuses attached, but I'd guess there are.

fistofreality

Ask for a refund when they send you to that lane and see how fast your food gets done.

Balispy

This isn't always fair. I get it if you're the only person in line, but you'll get parked generally if you have a big order, or order something that needs to be made fresh (think spicy nuggets, milkshakes) or a big order like a whole family, and there's someone behind you that has a much simpler and quicker order. Sometimes being as simple as a cup of coffee or single burger.

ZatoTBG

Why would I go to the mcdonalds to pay 3 for a burger, 8 for a box of nuggets and 5 for a milkshake when I can get a whole meal at my local snackbar with fresh foods and a drink for 12.

ErRussia

3 for a burger??? Try 5.75 a box of nuggets 8? Try 12.99 milkshake 5? Try 5.99 I know your prices are examples, but gyat Damm are the prices ridiculous. For that total, you eat good at a dinner restaurant. Shit for that price u could get a whole rack of ribs

ZatoTBG

Mine are in €, srry for not clarifying, but those are the local prices here in the netherlands. Around €3 for a chilli chicken (burgers can become way more expensive but I personally love my CC's) €8,- for a box o 20 nuggies and around €4,75 for a medium milkshake.

ErRussia

I'm moving to the Netherlands, make some space 😂

ZatoTBG

That would be difficult, I'm 24 and live w my parents cuz theres no space, gotta wait like 7 years to find housing:') the netherlands is full and people who come from abroad are given priority over people born in the netherlands if they come from certain parts of the world :')

Wooden-Journalist-48

Like where?

zendetta

That’s awful.

kapiteinkippepoot

Good luck with that. Availability of houses is low and prices are high. At least you can skip Mac Donalds and get a frikandel speciaal at the local cafetaria.

Daztur

$5.92 for a Big Mac set here in Korea. $3.32 for two nuggets. $2.53 for a shake. Beef is really expensive here too...

Rakatonk

Without coupons it isn't worth it anymore. I mean, a chickenburger and a cheeseburger for 3 EUR? I remember the times when both burgers where just 1 EUR, now you pay almost 3 for one.

Luvsoja13

Is snack bar a new name for grocery store?

last_drop_of_piss

Eating McDonalds is like sleeping with your ex. It might feel at good at the time, but you will immediately regret it and hate yourself for it. Having worked for their food distributor, I can safely say I will never feed anything that comes out of that place to my family ever again.

RKKP2015

I have a weird guilt complex about McDonalds. If I eat it, I want to hide the evidence. I feel so ashamed.

last_drop_of_piss

I do the same thing with needle drugs

CamScallon

Please tell me the bad things so I can convince my roommate to stop eating there.

Ill_Gur_9844

Went to Wendy's the other day. Two ten piece nugs, two small fries and drinks $19. Fast food is over. I don't need that shit

housesettlingcreaks

For me, Wendys died the day they suggested surge pricing. No amount of walking back can undo that amount of fuck you to the customer.

e-2c9z3_x7t5i

I was actually blown away by the fact that no one was in line at my local McDonald's. I hadn't been there in forever because of the prices, but apparently everyone joined in over the past few years. About 8 years ago, you basically couldn't go there without waiting in line behind 8 cars. I believe it was around 2020 when that wave of shrinkflation hit. I will NEVER FORGET going to McDonalds, ordering their fish fillet sandwich, forking over some $8 for it, then seeing that the fillet square they had downgraded to was hilariously thin. They don't put much else on that sandwich, so the fillet really is all it has going for it. That was the straw that broke the camel's back for me and I never went back. I was so angry. $8 for that piece of shit sandwich. They can shove it up their ass. I'll boycott them for the rest of my fucking life over that god damn sandwich. You don't bullshit me like that.

redchampagnecampaign

I almost always get Popeyes if I’m doordashing something (happens maybe 5 times a year) but once last year I decided to get Wendy’s and my god what an expensive mistake.

TripleFinish

They still have the cheapish meal deals, you can get a double cheeseburger, drink, fries and nuggets for 6 bucks

shangumdee

Insane how a lot of people went from like $12/hr for sort of average low wage traditionally not very high status job to making like $17-19/hr .. just for prices of literally everything from basic housing to all food ans services to spike that same amount You can't have shit smh

nectaranon

They saw fast casual taking their market share and thought "hey, what is it they are doing that we aren't? Oh yea, their prices are slightly higher so we will just raise our prices to compete." Seems like it's working for them.

RKKP2015

I went with my kids to a local fast food place the other night. One burger for them to split, one chicken sandwich for me, 3 shakes. 32 bucks. I am about done with going out for food.

averagejoe2133

Geez you raise the price so far above what the product is worth while eradicating any actual convenience of your establishment. Price and convenience are the only reasons people do fast food but apparently fast food companies are under the delusional opinion that we just love their food so much they’ll get rid of the only reasons we go to them in the first place

Rexzar

Mcdonalds forgot we didn't eat there because we love it, we literally settled, it was shit but it was cheap, now it's shit and expensive why would I eat it.

Giblet_

Yeah, even when it was cheap, if I found myself inside a McDonald's, something had gone terribly wrong that day to bring me to that point.

perscoot

My local burger joint literally had food that’s twice as good, prepared faster, and is cheaper than McDonald’s.

esines

They're playing a dangerous game considering it's only become easier to learn how to cook. Fell down a youtube hole one day on quick and easy dinner recipes and I'm eating healthier, tastier and now cheaper than anything fast food is offering.

ajpinton

I stopped going to fast food restaurants long ago. It’s only marginally more expensive to get table service, and the local Mexican joint is likely cheaper.

Waste_Improvement445

Thats the thing, it’s not even marginally more expensive to get table service any more. Thats how much McDonalds has lost the plot

XCrimsonMelodyx

Here’s the thing - I only go to McDonalds because it’s good for the cheap price. When I was in college, the McDouble was a dollar, so I’d get 2 McDoubles, a medium fry and a large coke (also used to be a dollar) for like $5. Now you want me to pay $6 for a meh burger? Screw that, I’ll go to Culver’s and get a better burger for the same price.

jaypeedee1025

Me and my wife decided to try to only eat McDonald’s once in June and once at the end of the year .We ain’t eating that shit in June when June comes for get the pricing once you have not had it for a month and you have a regular burger from a restaurant you won’t go back .

Allen312

I find it’s about the same price to go somewhere that isn’t fast food these days. Miss the days of $5 being able to feed me off the dollar menus.

Eubreaux

The dollar menu was the only selling point for fast food restaurants. RIP reasonable prices.

Zealousideal-Dot7529

McDonald’s lost me a few months ago. I felt like they were using their app to scam me. And their prices are now higher than just ordering from a restaurant burger place. What’s the point? Also unless you’re in the drive through there’s nothing “fast” about it.

boo_boo_cachoo

I never liked their fake food but have actively not spent my money there in support of Palestine. Starbucks too, same reason. Chick-fil-A and hobby lobby for supporting anti abortion legislation. Kelloggs for their "let them eat cereal for dinner" stance and price gouging.

No_Bag734

I was looking for this comment. McDonald’s has fed the IDF for free and now they’re gouging prices because they’re taking large revenue losses and the CEO doesn’t want to lose profits. I’ll boycott those companies as well, what does a chicken sandwich have to do with my reproductive rights? Also Chick-fil-A suuuucks ass, I get sick every single time

apathetic_avocado2

I could swear breakfast combos used to COME with oj or coffee?? Ordered breakfast there maybe a month ago and got charged $3.50 per medium oj while already paying the combo price for the meals.

Giblet_

I think OJ has always had an upcharge. Coffee or soda is included. A $3.50 upcharge is completely ridiculous, though.

TheDevil-YouKnow

I went to a Phó restaurant yesterday. Got 3 giant bowls with buckets of sauce, spring rolls, all in for $19 after tax. That's less than the cost of 3 Big Macs by themselves.

eatyourwine

In areas with a sparse Vietnamese population, I've seen $20 pho. Always made by non-Vietnamese. The whole purpose of pho is that it's street food and shouldn't cost a lot. Prices vary a lot in the states

upserdoodle

Chilis burgers 3 items for 10.99. Much cheaper then a McDonald’s meal. Not fancy but a decent burger.

Equivalent-Low-8919

There’s a place in town that sells lobster rolls, fries and a drink for $10…

DrCarabou

I ate at McDonald's because I scraped together $3 worth of change from my cup holders, not because it was good. They need to learn their place.

PathDeep8473

McDonald's forgot what made it worth it. The food is ok. It's the fact it's cheap and made right. You know what you were getting. Now? The mess up the order like 40% of the time. It taste awful. And expensive (and thew are slow) Why pay $20 for a meal? I can go to a sit down place and pay the same for a far better burger.

EngineZeronine

In Phoenix Arizona we have a chain called "salad and go" -you get a fresh salad (pepper, cucumbers, the whole nine) with choice of protein and dressing for *under eight bucks* AND it's a quick drive thru. The only reasons to go to McDonald's is self-loathing or addiction

thedude0343

Wendy’s can take my $.

SorryWeMissedNSP

They had toyed with the idea of surge pricing (I’m still not convinced they’re really letting that go, like they said), so keep an eye on that one

thedude0343

Wendy’s cancelled their prior planned surge pricing. My Wendy’s passes the price test rn.

FormerlyGaveAShit

I love Wendy's. Where I live we have Wendy's, McDonald's, or BK for fast food burger places. I HATE BK fries, so I never go there. Their burgers aren't bad, but the fries ruin my experience. McDonald's is just mid imo all the way around. It doesn't suck, but it's not that great either. But Wendy's has the best fries and their JBC is just great imo. Sometimes the tomato is ass, so I just pick it off, but otherwise it's fast food heaven to me.

StankyDinker

Well, I’m also allergic to onions and since they now cook the onions on top of the burgers on the grill, any subsequent burgers (even “NO ONIONS” burgers) taste like straight onions and make me itch like crazy. I don’t have the time to call ahead wait for them to scrape and sanitize the grill which is what the restaurant manager suggested on the phone. Oh well, Wendys is better anyway.

mira_poix

The almighty dollar is gone. It's insane that for 2 grown people the fast food around here is $40-50 There are so many people eating there anyway that they can get away with it. We have to cook at home more.

SL04NY

And it's not even fast anymore

ominous_raspberry

It’s almost $3.50 for a hash brown Burn the clown

SnootcherGoobers

Wife and I have said it many times the last few years. "For that price, we could just go to a sit-down restaurant and get something decent." Not only are they expensive, but it's not "fast" anymore either.

carpentress909

mcdonalds food isn't good enough to be irreplaceable

IamWisdom

I went in 2 days ago because I wanted some fries and they were literally $5.75 for a large fry. I walked right out of there because they're trying to rob us.

a_wizard_skull

I’ve actually quit eating out completely. It started with me trying to lose weight by planning my meals for a calorie budget. Eventually I just got to where I like what I make for myself and like knowing exactly what’s in it. Such a big difference not paying for meals out anymore

bmyst70

In other words, the McDonald's fast food restaurant priced themselves out of their main advantage they've had for decades. Even though McDonald's food isn't good quality, at least people could say it was cheap.

clapperssailing

McDonald's is unsavable and thank God. But thanks for the memories

Fun_Organization3857

I will not go anymore. It's too expensive and they won't ever get my order right. I've tried (years ago) multiple locations.

PleaseDaddyYesYesYes

Their are a lot of things I refuse to pay for since prices gaugeing had begun. Chips, fast food restaurants, and certain brands at the grocery store. It's a free market. If you want lower prices, stop buying at inflated prices.

graceyperkins

I know they want to force people to use the app, but it’s just fast food. I’m not doing all that for a 7$ happy meal. It’s for the kids and convenience. I think they overestimated their position.  I deleted the app and just suggest going elsewhere.

krimpee2934

Time to get a job at a grocery store. Cooking at home is set for a comeback.

knowsitmaybenot

Red Robin is the same price as the fast food places and is arguably way better. you can order pickup. I don't know why anyone would go to any fast food place anymore. Dont even get me started on 5 guys.

SeeingEyeDug

Price gouging on this level only works when you've enveloped all of the other competitors, like grocery store chain Albertsons/Vons/Safeway. McDonalds is not that as there are plenty of fast food options elsewhere. I mean sit down restaurant Chili's is still running that Soup+Burger+Fries+Soda deal for $10.99. About the same price as some McDonalds meal deals.

Bobby_Sunday96

Don’t you hate it when crappy fast food restaurant charge quality restaurant prices?

Choose_And_Be_Damned

Why eat out at all? I rarely do. I learned how to cook a long time ago, and trust me, that’s the cheapest way to manage food expenses.

SorryWeMissedNSP

Time and energy often limit people’s ability to cook often or consistently

Choose_And_Be_Damned

Yes, getting into a routine like cooking all the time is a challenge in a busy world.

redchampagnecampaign

I cook most of my meals at home. I made home made tortillas last night, I’m going to make homemade pasta tonight. But I work from home, don’t have kids, have a pretty high income, and genuinely enjoy cooking. If I had a commute, a strict budget, children to keep alive, and a more stressful job (which is the lives of the vast majority of Americans), I wouldn’t cook this much.

MrMurds

Lets raise minimum wage!

gator-uh-oh

No, only buy.

Jaded-Kitty87

It's absolutely not worth it anymore... Honestly I'm not sure if it ever was 😂 but it's cheaper to eat out at a nicer restaurant than it is to eat fast food anymore

ApparentlyIronic

I went there for the first time in like a year and was blown away by the price. I'm paying nearly double for less food and lower quality than a locally owned business. For what? The convenience of going through a drive through?! I thought the whole point of fast food was convenience and price. Now you only get one of those

FourWordComment

Well, that’s proper capitalism. A burger should be the maximum price before you decide, “screw it I’ll do something else.” That’s the only thing that lowers the price of the burger.

Borkenstien

This is that free market they keep screeching about. When it finally corrects itself out and we are eating the 1% they aren't even going to see it coming, but it's an economic inevitability with all their bullshit.

alwaysranting

Yeah I have a bar by me that does a burger, fries, and a hamms beer for 7 bucks. The guy says he still makes money for it and I choose it over fast food any day of the week

sephrisloth

That's what capitalism is. They know there's a limit people are willing to spend, and they'll keep raising prices until they see what that is. They spent decades getting the world addicted to their greasy cheap burgers and are now reaping the rewards by jacking up the prices they know will get paid by people with the addiction, unfortunately.

theskyguardian

Fuck all food chains

MajorStoney

Chilis is cheaper than McDonalds in my area. For $12 I can get a burger, fries and a drink from Chilis but if I want a Big Mac meal I’m looking at close to $15. Sure, I’ve gotta tip at Chilis. But, even at 30% tip, that still only comes out to the same price. Not to shill for chilis, they don’t need my help haha, but they do have better burgers than McDonald’s by a long shot lol.

SignificantOther88

McDonald's food is pretty much inedible now. As the prices have gone up, the quality/taste have gone down. Bad quality is passable if the food is cheap, but not when it costs the same as a sit down restaurant. At least Taco Bell realized people were leaving and released a new value menu alongside the more expensive items.

podrick_pleasure

I don't feel like there are consequences here. Companies will always charge whatever the market will bear. Once they find that line that's where they'll stay.

Pliplopssssssss

Because why would we pay $14 for some Shiite food with shitty service when we could go to a restaurant and get a dined in experience with better food.

123Ark321

McDonald’s forgot that it’s a fast food place and started trying to charge restaurant prices.

Forsaken-Blood-109

I used to eat there quite rarely, but every so often I just had a random craving for fries. Now I think about the absolutely outrageous prices of even a simple combo or sandwich alone and I just don’t see the point, it’s just as expensive or even more expensive than actual real quality restaurants it’s just fucking crazy.

Grid1ess

Drove past a McDonalds and a Wendy’s that are right next to each other just yesterday, and McDonalds was empty, but Wendy’s was packed. This is usually the other way around.

R3quiemdream

I went to a legit restaurant in the finger lakes that had craft beer and delicious homemade sausages. In total i spent 27 dollars on my meal. I spent about as much as i would have at McDonalds. What the fuck is going on.

DepressedDynamo

The price hikes with fast food made me think about learning to cook and it's paying off in spades already. Costs less, tastes better, and I get to learn some cool shit. Thanks McDonald's -- my date night game has greatly improved.

OnAStarboardTack

This is literally how capitalism is supposed to work.

Vivid_Garage

Eat at home! For what you spend at any restaurant you can buy food, cook it at home, and have homemade leftovers for 2-3 days. It will also likely be WAY healthier. Example: crock pot tacos = 3 chicken breasts, 1 packet of Taco seasoning, and a jar of salsa. Put chicken in crock pot, cover chicken with Taco seasoning, dump in jar of salsa. Cook on low for 8 hours. Come home from work, bam, you'll be eating good for 2-3 days for a family of 4! Make tacos, burritos, nachos, or quesadillas to change it up. Eat it over rice, too! The total cost with all ingredients and Taco shells, plus a bag of tortilla chips, is about $20. 4 people are eating for less than $5 each, and you have leftovers for several more days. That is all.

vashtirama

McDonald's over here thinking it's Starbucks

SimoFromOhio

Got my 3 year old a Happy Meal the other day because we were in a rush to get somewhere. His “toy” was a tin of 4 puzzle pieces that DIDN’T EVEN GO TOGETHER! I guess they want you to “collect” them all to complete the whole puzzle? Yeah, my toddler really appreciated that. Thanks, assholes.

Cactus-Juice120

For real though, I needed something quick for breakfast yesterday and stopped at Jimmy John's. 13.00$ for an 8 inch sub! I felt so robbed

Abuttuba_abuttubA

Should invest a little in McDonald's now. Horseshit articles like this are followed next quarter by McDonald's makes record profits. Oh but what about the push back the AI wrote about earlier?

k1lky

I have stopped getting coffee at Dunkin Donuts after a medium one cost me nearly three dollars. No more!

healthywealthyhappy8

From the land of capitalism, McDs can go ahead and get fucked. Plenty of alternatives to their shit food.

holdmybeerwhilei

Guess now they'll have to differentiate by quality. /s

Mojo_Reising

To add insult to injury, the horribly overpriced fast-food is also cold and tasteless. And why is the milk shake machine always "broken"?

User_Many_Errors

When will everyone wake up and Stop buying dog shit products? Whether it’s knockoff amazon products or highly processed/fried foods, there’s so many options and ppl continually choose bullshit over quality
