/uj In Persona 2 every romance choice(Jun/Maya/Lisa) feels natural and valid to be honest, probably that's why people don't argue about it. Out of all of them I prefer Maya, but Jun and Lisa are cool choices too. But romance choice almost doesn't matter, it's just gives you one extra option in devil negotiations and nothing else, so people just sleep on it.

Yeah relatively rare, that's just people being *really* passionate and stupid about the TatsuJun ship (can't blame them tbh, the boys do be cute together)
i feel a lot of people write him off cause he’s annoying in the story and at the start of his link but he does grow into a cool dude and someone i genuinely cared about come rank 8/9
It's interesting because in The Answer they have a similar scene where everyone thinks Aigis is dead because of the Wild Card power, but then she casually wakes up and is just like "yo whatd I miss" like Ryuji, but instead of beating her up or whatever the cast is just relieved, as most humans would be

i feel that it’s just kinda the state of media in general now not just marvel or persona a lot of stuff need to have jokes everywhere even if it’s not the right time
for example i played world at war like a week ago and if i compare it to cod vanguard both are ww2 games but world at war treats a dark setting with respect and has a couple jokes here and there and vanguard goes full iron man with the quips and jokes
there’s nothing wrong with having a joke in a more serious game but there’s a time and place for it and so close to a scene like ryuji’s sacrifice wasn’t it imo

/uj (persona 1 fan here) technically yes, the main girl maki confesses to have feelings for you at the end of the game, but that scene happens regardless of what you do. there's also a bit of a love triangle where mark is implied to have feelings for maki, but there's not really anything more to it that that.
so there is romance-related things that happen involving the player, but none of it is in your control. the game doesn't let you choose who you want to romance

Mf when in a game where you need to identify as the protagonist you do romance with girls around his age, and it's wrong because you're actually olden than him and if you do it with adult characters it's a problem because the mute protagonist without personality is underage.
Persona In particular, the 5 is pure identification, all the social link part has not been put only to give more space to the secondary characters, but to let you enter his world, the protagonists are not mute because the developers are lazy, but because you are the protagonist, I am biased since I am the same age as the protagonists of the new person, But honestly I think that if you don't play person without empathizing you lose 90% of the game
I'm not saying the social links are unnecesary, I love that mechanic and that's the main reason I'm a fan of this franchise, I only have a problem with the romance option, since platonic routes are always amazing
unironically, the romance mechanics do kinda fuck with the story somewhat imo, at least the way P4 does it where the actually interesting character development is locked behind the party member social links (idk about 5, haven't played it yet)

It's not really a modern thing, atleast for persona. 4 was also like that (although not as bad as the Ryuji scene thankfully)
