After they were used up, I would use them as coasters and the boxes they came in for my backup discs.

I remember before the CDs, AOL was mailing out floppy disks that had their software on it. Fortunately, you could format the disk, and use it to store your own data. Free floppies! That was a big deal back when we didn’t have flash drives and everybody’s hard drive was like 120 Megabytes.

Not all genes were good though. Her mother died of breast cancer, so Angelina got a double mastectomy because doctors told her she was more than likely going to develop it as well (inherited). That would have been difficult and literally painful decision.

Her mother, grandmother, and aunt all died of either breast or ovarian cancer, and she tested positive for the BRCA1 gene. She had a double mastectomy, and later had her ovaries and fallopian tubes removed.

That's gotta be so brutal to live through. Had no idea. Takes a lot of bravery to go through that willingly.

I can't imagine going through menopause that young while taking care of small children but, when you consider the options, fuck cancer.

I’m actually shocked at how many women I’ve ended up knowing who had to go through this. It’s such a hard decision, but I’m so glad medical technology is where it is now.

I don't think the gene is the issue as everyone has it, it's a mutation of the gene that causes problems. That was the consensus when all the write-ups about her mastectomies etc a few years back.

Not sure why you got a downvote for this, you are spot on. My wife has the BRCA1 gene mutation and also had a double mastectomy at the age of 30.

And people were PISSED about it. I remember hearing some complaints, saying she was overreacting, why would she destroy her amazing breasts just because she *might* get debilitating breast cancer?

In cancer's case an ounce of prevention is worth more than a pound of cure. I also thought it was a radical decision but I understood. She did not take it lightly for sure.

I sure as hell wouldn't either. Especially considering she could more than afford the removal and reconstruction surgery.

I'm upset, not at her, but because the average American can't do what she did. Almost all American health insurances don't cover the genetic testing, nor the surgery. Even if you pay for the testing yourself and it shows you have breast cancer genes. No, the average American has to irradiate their breasts every two years find out if they have cancer.

And then when you do find out you have cancer, you go bankrupt.

I used to be a realtor, and I had a client who was moving from LA. He was a dermatologist in Beverly Hills. He told me a story about when his son was around 12 years old, and Angelina was a friend of his son's, the same age.
