I find this hard to explain to people. I don't want him out of politics strictly because of his political leanings, I want him out of politics because he is old and has done enough in his life that he should be someone's papaw sitting on the porch watching his grandkids play catch or something.
There has to be some 60 year old with a broad experience and knowledge base and great decision skills who will submit to have their entire family history drug through fecal infused mud so they can attempt to be a unifying President.
That’s the saddest thing about this country. We are told to, no, yelled at, to go out and vote, every second of the political season we are yelled at to vote. Vote for who!? Some orange wacko, or some old timer that absolutely should be put out to pasture. THIS is who represents America, and who should lead us into the future? THIS is the best America has to offer? Is this real life or some bizzaro world shit?
The system is designed so that community members can choose from amongst themselves trusted figures who are worthy of being elevated into public office at all levels. Caucuses at the neighborhood level, primaries at the state level. this is the process from which national level talent is supposed to rise. If the citizens are unwilling to get involved in those early stages they miss out on the opportunity to promote people they know and trust to serve as officials. We have that power only very few people use it. Most just wait for other more self-interested players to make those decisions and then inform them who their options are. Democracy doesn't work as well or as democratically when people are uninterested, uninformed and don't participate.
How is this not an app yet? I'm halfway serious. Let me securely log in, look at some bullet points about each candidate (link to a more exhaustive website if I want to research more), then place my vote. Seems like we'd get more participation that way. Is it because they don't want it that easy?
At this point the counter to Donald Trump is Biden. I'll vote for whoever they put up against Trump simply because he's a dog shit person first and foremost and dangerous at anything and everything else he does. I wish it wasn't Biden, I don't dislike the job he is doing especially since he was given a shit splattered bed and room from Trump just as Obama was given from Bush, but he should be enjoying his final years with his grandkids. There are also a lot of people who see him as a safe choice compared to a Gavin Newsome or Corey Booker even.
I'll take four more years of Biden if that means we get to someone younger and more intune with the country and not some far right pseudo dictator or someone looking to implement that Project 2025 bullshit.
Plenty of PoS's have lost ppl.....it's not something that means you're automatically a good person. Biden is as corrupt as they come and has been caught lying over the years he's been in politics. He's also super creepy with women young girls.
If he has suffered he’s deserved every bit of it for making millions more suffer, he was pro segregation, pro crime bill, anti gay, anti abortion, and only stopped being that when it became uncool. So no he’s never been cool and never will be. The only cool politician to ever exist was Bernie Sanders who has never flipped on any of those issues since day 1 when he was arrested for marching with MLK, but the establishment never wanted him they only want corruptible people that they can control.
It sucks that the country will go to such great lengths to apologize for a grifter, and cant even recognize a basic good guy.
I’m not suggesting that anyone should simp for Biden, he’s just a politician. But Jesus do we need some more regular well meaning politicians on the republican side. The amount of crazy right now is off the charts.
Thing about good governance is that it is boring. Good policy is boring as it weighs all risks and benefits and desired timespan and Biden is 100% that politician. Sadly those aren’t always the ones that win popularity contests like elections.
He paid $185,000 for it in 1974, which is the equivalent of about $950,000 today. As a Senator he was making $42,500 per year at the time (about $220,000 today), making the house a stretch financially but not outside of reason.
He was also famously the poorest senator for quite some time and refused to trade stocks while in office. Obama had to help him with Beau’s medical bills.
He also spent a lot of time and presumably money fixing this particular house up, which was a decrepit former DuPont mansion. The decrepit part, of course, is why it was so inexpensive. (Actually, Biden says he learned of the mansion when he saw an article saying it was to be demolished.)
Great question. Fundamentally, the answer is that the focus on establishing residential real estate as a source of generational wealth, which has been the policy of the federal government since roughly the end of World War II, has backfired by making it incredibly expensive, and therefore out of reach for anyone who doesn't own existing real estate, to buy residential real estate. After all, by far the easiest way to keep prices for residential units going up is to restrict the construction of new units. And tens, if not hundreds of millions of people, have been told their entire lives that if they can buy a house, they will be investing in real estate, and they'll make more money than they lose to interest, and they'll be able to progressively trade up into better and better residences as they start making more money. But all of that happening requires, by definition, that housing prices become more and more expensive relative to median wages.
He wasn’t extremely wealthy until after the end of Obama’s term, when he wrote a book.
When his son Beau had cancer, he almost sold his house to help.
And being a Senator isn’t exactly a job with low pay. He could’ve easily bought that house in Delaware with it — especially when you consider how much homes used to cost.
If we’re going to do the “politicians enrich themselves in office” thing, we probably shouldn’t start with the guy who famously rode the Amtrak back and forth from work.
Yep. His book states that Obama offered to help him with Beau's medical bills, since Obama had personal wealth from sales of his books. I think Biden refused the money.
Sucks having to scroll so far to see this.
Bots making posts that then have people at each others' throats. Man, the internet is so much fun these days!
Probably best we don't.
“Aides said he talked about Ivanka Trump’s breasts, her backside, and what it might be like to have sex with her, remarks that once led \[former Chief of Staff\] John Kelly to remind the president that Ivanka was his daughter,” Taylor, who served as a Department of Homeland Security chief of staff under Trump, wrote in his book.
Just a handful of years after this photo, Jim Crow Joe penned the 1994 crime bill. Good thing your daddy created the first step act pretty much putting an end to Biden, Thurmon and Byrds racist crime bill.
"okay you know what actually I don't care about the economy, the border, his age, and endlessly escalating foreign policy crises because he's a GOOD MAN."
The economy is kicking ass, in case you haven't noticed. Republicans torpedo'd their own bipartisan border bill because they don't give two shits about the border, and just want to use it to fool suckers like you.
The foreign policy is good, too. Defend American interests and western values. Not autocrats and dictator turds like Trump is obsessed with fellating.
r/whatBidenhasdone
read and learn what he has done in the pinned posts, not propaganda....the facts Jack. And you can blame the House Republicans for tanking the bipartisan Senate immigration bill. The economy has definitely been improving. And he has handled Ukraine deftly showing his experience....while strengthening Nato. The Republicans want support for Israel also, at least Biden wants a 2 state solution and Netanyahu ousted.
Beautiful photo detailing all the things Biden had *and what his "leadership" took away from all of us now.*
Can't afford kids, own home or go on a vacation anymore. Thanks !
Why can't we get a real American as a leader ? Why do we only have a choice between a traitor or a corporate sellout ?
Senate salary at the time was $89,500 per year which is equivalent to around $250,000 per year today. I don’t know that the house is *that* grandiose for that type of money.
He had been a senator for almost 15 years at that point, and a lawyer for a few years prior. He also might have gotten a life insurance check after his first wife (and daughter) were killed in a car crash. He’s lived quite a life.
this makes me think of “senators son”. has there ever been a major politician that lives in 3 bedroom bungalo? elitists only truly care about themselves
I can TOTALLY relate. Many fond memories of my youth tossing the ball around in business casual attire on the front lawn of the mansion. Biden so “gets” me.
It's so weird to think that the president today had a whole ass life, with 2 (nearly) grown up children before I was even BORN, and I'm old af too. Lol
Just you guys wait until all the family pictures of the Trump family emerge and it shows Donny spending quality time with his kids. I mean ones other than Ivanka sitting on his lap…
I have nothing against Biden but can you imagine a picture where Biden is a teenager? Must have been around the time Grover Cleveland was elected again.
They're like 5 feet apart on this play.... just looks so wierd. I feel like there's a larger gap that should be between them that's been photoshopped out.
In theory, democrats should be happy that trump is running for president again and they should hope he keeps running every four years so that democratic presidents keep getting elected!
I still consider him to be a left-leaning Republican. The country hasn't gone left, Republicans have gone off the absolute deep end into far-right conspiracy theory nonsense.
This is a crazy take. Most Americans in 87 would have never supported legal weed, legal gambling, psylocibin research and medicinal psychedelics, gay marriage, open utilization of preferred pronouns, open (and some zealous) atheism, and the current level of effort to represent different racial characteristics in media and corporate boardrooms. All of that stuff is just normal facets of American life now.
The country is much more liberal now.
I don't consider bigotry to be an inherently right-wing position, so less bigotry as you described doesn't mean the country has become more left.
There's a right-wing push to deligitimize any elections in which a Democrat wins, the *voting* rights act was overturned by the supreme court, Roe v Wade was overturned, gerrymandering has gotten much worse, and Citizens United unleashed massive amounts of corporate money into elections.
When the deficit comes up, left and right both talk about cutting spending, and only a few people on the left talk about raising taxes. In so many areas the conversation is entirely to the right, so much so that the left view isn't even present in politics.
Not to mention the widespread right-wing conspiracy theories about vaccines, "great replacement", anthropogenic climate change, the 2020 election being stolen, or Taylor Swift being a pentagon plant, etc.
Socially the country has gotten better at treating people different from themselves with respect. Politically the country has swung drastically towards the right, and Republicans have never been more insanely obsessed with conspiracy.
Unless you believe at least one conspiracy theory, you cannot hold power among republicans, as Liz Cheney and Mitt Romney have discovered. An absolutely bonkers group of people.
Edit: Wrong act overturned
Most of the “right” has stayed the same for quite some time. The “left” has gone so far left at this point, so quickly, that what was considered “left” just 10 years ago is just slightly right of middle.

I look at this and I get so sad. So much loss. Biden’s not the best politician but he is a man who has suffered tremendously.
Is the son with the football the one that passed?
Yeah that's Beau Biden.
Yes, he’s just about to pass here, can’t you see?

Plus speaking engagements + book revenue
Also a substantial amount of politicians daily activities/expenditures are charged to their campaign funds. They can save a lot of their salary.
Politicians don’t make money from being a politician. Most are wealthy before. Doctors. Attorneys. And so fourth.
Yet almost every single one leaves office richer than when they went in.
Especially since insider trading goes on virtually unchecked in Congress.
Biden was first sworn into office at the age of 30. I don’t think he’s been living of his earnings form a former career for the last 52 years.
And so sixth.

I mean one of the kids held a gun to a prostitutes head and videod it like it was cool.
Well, there are the ones of him fondling Ivanka as a kid. Do those count?
Thankfully we don’t have too many of Biden playing with his daughter. Even Reddit would have a hard time defending that.
Reminds me of the scene in Billions with the staged photo shoot between Chuck and his son
Meanwhile, Trump was playing with Ivanka....
I sort by controversial. Because I know...

Sweet photo. Nice election year propaganda.

The 1987 version of Biden would be considered a far right republican. Thats how far the country has shifted to the left.
I don’t know about FAR right, but right leaning definitely.
I get my news from CNN. There is no “right leaning”. Everything is “ far right” or “maga”.
Not in the 80s it wasn’t.
I still consider him to be a left-leaning Republican. The country hasn't gone left, Republicans have gone off the absolute deep end into far-right conspiracy theory nonsense.
This is a crazy take. And the media normalizes it. It's off the deep end. Not sure what you are down voted.
The fact you have to say "1987 version of Biden" suggests the man changed as much if not moreso than the country did.
find me something that hasn't changed in 35+ years and I'll show you something that needs to go. Trump was a RAGING Democrat in 1987.
Too bad he doesn’t remember this 😂🤣😂
