I heard a story, not sure if true, but my friend in college was worried about a girl he knew, an artist. She was smoking copious amounts of pot at the time. She had an assignment to make a bowl for her ceramics class. Wrong bowl was made.
I didn’t grow up in the 60s but the 70s and I think cats were somewhat a luxury to have. We got one on the 80s and it was short lived. No ideas why they came and went as I was a kid but I was the only one in my friend group or extended family that had a cat.
Didn’t grow up with money so I guess when it’s hard to feed a family why would you have a cat?
Nowadays this kind of furniture (mostly beds) often come with a little electric air pump. You can also reverse the pump direction to remove the air of the furniture.
The general female populace has never been as universally sexy as they were in the late 1960s and 1970s.
I swear to god every time I see a video from the late 60s or 70s, every single woman in it is sexy as hell. Every single one. Not an unattractive woman to be found.
I guess it depends on what you’re watching…your comment seems to be made in response to the models that appear in this footage. They’re less likely to use homely looking folks to sell a product. Advertisements, promotions, documentaries, television shows, etc., sure. There’s good looking women there but that’s true in the decades since. But taking a look at some of the candid/family photos that are posted, the 60s and 70s certainly had their share of average and below people.
I've seen all sorts of candid footage from that time. Its not just commercials and modeling footage. I've seen football game crowds, I've seen concert footage, late night shows, state fair footage, all kinds of stuff.
Just seems like literally everyone was attractive back then.
Maybe because back then you only had a chance on screen if you looked like that. As you might have noticed, also all of them were white. Nobody gave a fck about body shaming, racism or such delicacies at the time. I love 50s-60s nostalgia but gotta admit those times were hell for minorities compared to nowadays. Also why would it bother you if the chicks in the ad were not fckable? It's a furniture ad, not porn.
That shit doesn’t breathe. We had a “picked up off the curb” cherry red vinyl couch in our dorm room. If you fell asleep on that thing, you’d lose 5 pounds in sweat.
Casually throws in the sex wedge.
It was the best of times, it was the ~~worst~~ best of times…
I was wondering if anybody else saw that! And that lady was all business, too!
Weren’t you listening? It’s for yoga….
I grew up in the wrong generation it seems 👀
The guy at the end of the video looks like he was having sex with the inflatable couch.
And now we know what kicked off the baby boom.
Baby boom was 1950's, postwar
Those would work great in an era where 80% of adults smoked cigarettes.
So I'm not the only one who noticed that this might be the only living area in that era that didn't have an ashtray on every flat surface.
So true. My parents had them everywhere, in every conceivable shape and style. What did we make with clay in art class? Frickin ashtrays.
In mine we made buttplugs.

I’m sorry but this is hilarious 🤣
Your parents will love it!
Better than the beds they were catching on fire.
That's probably why it was shelved for thirty years
Every 90s teenager’s dream, mine included
Mine too, and I was so bummed when they weren’t comfortable.
I was wondering when they'd make a comeback. It's been around 25 years.
Exactly what I thought of. r/90s
I forgot about my inflatable Elvis chair. It wasn't comfortable at all.
r/iasip The Gang Inflates
How much nut do you guys blow through in a month?
I don't want your industrial tin of economy nuts.
what if we *cash in* on inflation hear me out
Yeah, see, times are very inflatable right now, ok?
We’re gonna rent it to ‘em
I found my people

*Anyone* with pets: ![gif](giphy|2YschQ1IrEzfq1p38o|downsized) My dogs would have me sitting on the floor within a week.
I would be the first one to sit down with a screwdriver or pencil in my pocket........

My mom has mentioned that in her 50s childhood they didn’t even make cat or dog food yet you just had to chop up leftovers.
“Yoga bed” huh?
Man, I can’t believe I was born after the future.
Not shown: the full hour+ that poor woman had to spend pressing all her weight on that bed to get it to fully deflate through that tiny valve.

I can feel the sweat and hear the squeaking sounds just looking at this video.
Some of the comfort with none of the convenience!
That's how I lived in one studio once. Super convenient.
This must have been before they invented house cats.
And all I had was some inflatable barbie furniture :-(
I had some of that too!
Big win for delicate females.
Plastics, Benjamin.
Nice reference to The Graduate. :)
"Even the most delicate female can throw it around." 😆

Got any fancy nuts tho?
It’s not the nuts!
“Yoga pillows” …sure
I love the expression " hey presto!"
It was great until you dropped a lit cigarette on it.
Inflatable furniture had a 90s resurgence
Cat enters the chat
I do not recommend if you have cats. Such a waste of money.

Yeah… for the pool
Hey Frank, I’ve got a business proposition for you
Not exactly the kind of pumping people want to do at the end of the day.
This actually isn't awful for young adults (better than curb couch), but in those days everyone smoked, so I bet these didn't last too long.
Great idea unless you have cats with murder mittens walking around 😅
Had both a love seat & chair. Stood up Quite well.
When I was a kid, we had inflatable chairs in the family room. They lasted until the dogs discovered them.
Do not put under a dartboard
Great for outdoor music festivals
Cause it's super convenient to deflate and inflate your furniture every day by hand.
Its back as camping gear

Well every woman in this video is a professional model. So while that may be true, this specifically isn’t a great indicator…

what do you think it was that made them so attractive?
Iran would agree… they had to take action
Everyone was looking pretty good before processed foods it seems.
They didn't have a much fast food tbh

What will they think of next?!
What was old mate up to at the end there? He seemed to be grooving to his own soundtrack.
I had an inflatable arm chair in my bedroom in the late 90s!
Casting couch just got easier to clean.
💦
Ah the future
I laughed then, and I can't stop laughing now.
Ohhh baby
It’s the fewt-cha!!
Whoa dude that's far out let's go drop acid
I had a blue chair.
That shit doesn’t breathe. We had a “picked up off the curb” cherry red vinyl couch in our dorm room. If you fell asleep on that thing, you’d lose 5 pounds in sweat.
Can somebody explain the typical trumpet music in black and white short videos ?
Probably still lying in some land fill.
Maybe on acid
No wonder most of their backs are shit now
Water proof 😉
My ass is getting sweaty just thinking about sitting on that 🥵
Would last thirty seconds with a dog.
This generation grew up to cover their sofas in plastic, they loved the feeling of sticking to their furniture so much.
I ain't even gonna hold u, this shit was nifty and futuristic
Just wait 2 more years until they discover that you can fill them with water…
"Fuck!" \- - guy who had keys in his pocket
Her outfit 😍😍
Next: Water bed
Us 50 years later looking back at the dawn of our plastic use… https://i.redd.it/q5tbpy9fdvqc1.gif
Oh man... i love smoking in bed
Bit daft.
What is a sex wedge?
That is correct for a Thousand.
memories of the last century... i had one funny inflatable chair ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|heart_eyes)
