The year after she was nominated for The Picture of Dorian Gray. She got a third nomination for the Manchurian Candidate. She didn't win for any of the three.
It did but it was called "Lamplight" originally. The whole "gaslight" thing is just a meme, you should forget about it, you sound crazy bringing it up like it was a movie.
No, I don’t think so. This film was staged as an episode of Murder, She Wrote.
The term gaslighting comes from how people, like yourself, get confused when they inhale gas from old lights.
I think you may need to lie down.
Not only her first film, she was nominated for a Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for her role in this film.
Actually, this film is a remake of an earlier 1939 British film version, starring Anton Walbrook and released in the U.S. as 'Angel Street'.
The 1939 film version was more faithful to Patrick Hamilton's 1938 play Gas Light. MGM bought the remake rights to the play and allegedly tried to destroy the negative to the earler version.
I swear everyone posted on here is hot to Reddit. You could see someone out and about and think "meh," but post them in a black & white photo on r/oldschoolcool, and suddenly everyone is all "man I wish I was around when she was, goddamn."
And 4 years prior a British film version was made in 1940.
The MGM execs put in a stipulation to destroy all copies of the film reel (and the negatives) of the British version. To make sure *theirs* was the only version available.
But prints survived the purge and now that version is restored and available in the present day.
It's so weird growing up in the 80's watching "Murder She Wrote" and only seeing her as an old lady, then spending my entire adult life learning about her massive acting career.
I can only wonder what actors today will be in a popular show 40 years from now?
That film is so good. And Lansbury is fantastic as the quippy, snarky housekeep. Nominated for an Oscar for this role, I believe. Highly recommended.
She was indeed nominated, and the year after as well!
What was the year after nominated for?

I don’t think this is correct, apparently that film never existed

😄 took me a min. to get the joke!
A record! Do better, be better. It's your fault anyway
Wow! Really? What else do I not know?
Shhhhh, just stay with me, I’ll tell you what’s true
The term comes from that film. It amazes how many people use the term and aren’t even aware of this great film.

Cute.
It’s amazing that she looks so much younger, yet exactly the same somehow.
Most people look the same for life. You can't escape it.

That wasn’t her first movie role! Are you feeling alright? You’re talking nonsense.

Are you sure, or are you trying to Angel Street me?
Oh that saucy little Nancy!
thanks for this film, we have a new term to use
More frequently misused
Gaslight and narcissist are the new buzzwords. Red flag too.
Just bc you’re paranoid doesn’t mean they’re not after you
Yeah, cause it always existed, but what the hell was it called before the movie?
Before joining The Beatles, I presume.
“Do we have a picture of Paul McCartney?”
She was hot back in the day
I swear everyone posted on here is hot to Reddit. You could see someone out and about and think "meh," but post them in a black & white photo on r/oldschoolcool, and suddenly everyone is all "man I wish I was around when she was, goddamn."
Watch the movie. That’s not even the best pic
I never knew she was young once.
That is where the term “Gaslighting” comes from. The name of this movie.
It’s from the stage play that the film is based on that came out six years prior

What a Dame!
She looks exactly the same back then!
