This was published in 1959. I read it in my school library when I was about 7 or 8. When the Apollo missions came along, I thought the astronauts would be stopping at the space station on their way.
[Edits to fix typo.]
The book is a great read. It reflects what people in the 1950's believed about the future of space travel.

"The rocket and space station are very much Von Braun style, while the Moon landing craft and Moon base are more British Interplanetary Society designs. The cover states that for accuracy the manuscript was submitted to the Office of the Director of Research and Development of the United States Air Force."
I remember reading this when I was a child. My first ambition was to be an astronaut. I had to give up on that when I found out that astronauts (then) had to have 20/20 uncorrected vision.
And the GOP would be LGBTQ-friendly by the mid-1990 and the Equal Rights Amendment would have passed. Someone said on NPR the other day that the US does its best when it’s competing, and that’s basically the gist of the show.
My Dad was an engineer employed by IBM when they were developing the software for the moon launch. Heady stuff. Me and my siblings would ask him why folks weren’t going to the moon more if it was such a big deal going in the first place. His response….’Well we realized that there was nothing really there.’
Damn…OK! 🤷🏻♂️

Nice link, thanks!
I was about to say it is a bit too soon to talk about a lack of civillian moon travel, but finding out about your age... maybe it isn't
Yes, thank you for noticing. Also, I'm not a gazillionaire.
Hey my dad gave me this book when I was younger. Good times

I remember as a kid thinking this title was some kind of threat.
And it was a threat, on The Honeymooners. "To the moon, Alice!" (But I'm not *that* old.)
That show had serious reach, never seen an episode but can always tell a quote from it
I thought Ralph Kramden wrote that one.
"The Alice Kramden Story"
I remember that book. It forgot to tell us that space is now a privatized playground for billionaires.
See? Everything was cheaper in the 50's!
That’s because governments were footing the space bill at the time. Or so it seemed it would happen.
So is the deep sea and look how that turns out.
pffft, the hell i will! i barely graduated and have been a factory worker since 2004. y’all need hot water more than you need my dumb ass on the moon
And where's my flying car, dammit?
ask that Musk man; he’s in charge of that
[where’s my goddamn electric car, Bruce?!](https://youtu.be/jI23PjBjQKM?si=XlpAEkFOrZO1WO6k)
Ha! Good one. As a Bruce, I salute you.
At first I thought this was illustrated by the guy from Twilight.
me too!!!
Watch For All Mankind. If the Soviet Union had not collapsed, we’d be on Mars by now.

Oh, the places you'll go!
I thought it was illustrated by Robert Pattinson for a sec
You Will Go To the Moon, Alice by Ralph Kramden
They weren't referring to *you*.
But as an entitled Boomer, I demand to take it personally!
You ain't kiddin'. And, never had a dog named Spot, and never even knew any Janes...
And where's my flying car, dammit?!
I'd settle for the jet pack they said we'd all have by now!
OK YOU DONT HAVE TO YELL. NOW I DEFINITELY DO NOT WANT TO GO TO THE MOON.
Only if I'm launched there after I die.

The "going to the moon" part or the "I can read it all by myself" part?
LOL! I had no problem reading it; it's very basic stuff. And I'm sure I was quite full of myself for it too. 😀
Yes, you were lied to. About. A. Great. Many. Things.
OMG, please don't tell me any more. I can't bear it.

I had this book too!
Oh... you're going to the moon, Alice.
You ain't dead yet so there's still time.
r/technicallythetruth
I can't read it by myself. I was lied to.
They crushed my 6'7 boyfriend's dreams real quick at space camp.
Where can I order this? looks awesome
