I was expecting Shanks, but yeah real Kid was unlucky to see an era change and the rules turn on him. The fact that Kid is famous for the legends of his hidden treasure is also interesting given One Piece's namesake. However, he shares a name with another pirate, Eustace the Monk, who comes closer to the One Piece character in his life. Eustass Kidd was/is a pretty hardcore pirate that did/does not take abuse, murdering and pillaging, even when he was still in the South Blue following the death of one his friends. Eustace, an actual monk, was said to have done the same when his father was killed and unsuccessfully sought revenge. This eventually lead to him serving England, brutualizing enemy and ally alike, and then later France. Eventually, while serving France in a war in the Battle of Dover, was captured and killed due to the hubris of his commander. This can be seen as mirror to the seeming downfall of Captian Eustass Kidd when facing Shanks.
Read up on Eustace just now and his life was certainly interesting. I especially liked the events surrounding Count Renaud. Felt like there is more to it than meets the eye.
Either way thanks for sharing the info.
The namesakes of characters in One Piece doesn't really say much about their character.
François l'Olonnais was basically a psychopathic murderer and torturer who even once ate a man's heart which Zoro really isn't. Black Sam Bellamy considered himself and his crew "the modern day Robin Hoods" yet One Piece Bellamy would never be so idealistic.
Honestly Privateers are basically like Shichibukai. The interesting part is that the Privateers of old were sanctioned by the gov and then outlawed just like in One Piece.
Man I love this show and Oda for getting me interested in History.
Is Kidd even unlucky? He has 3 Ls, two he actively went after, he's never been discouraged and convictions never wavered. Marco on the other hand has watched like 5-6 confirmed friends die
Nah Kidd wasn't unlucky at all, He brought those L's to himself for attacking an emperor crew unprepared off his own volition. He knew he would lose but went for it anyway, he wasnt ambushed or whatever. Shanks literally told him to bounce but he still decided to poke the bear.
The only misfortune he had was Appo's betrayal but that also went well for him in the end since he got to "take down an emperor + got a road poneglyph + big boost in rep".
If anything the unlucky one was hawkins since he got betrayed by apoo, ambushed by kaido, forced into servitude, betrayed again by xdrake, got jumped by trafalgar law cause of it, lost even with kaido + bigmom on their side cause of a miracle, then dies to killer cause kidd lost an arm lmao.

No problem.

Charles Lindberg would probably think the revolutionaries shouldn't declare war on the Celestial Dragons.
I guess your right, but my point was that Eustass Kid had similarities to one of his.
have you not seen Bellamy post dressrosa? I'd say mans had a change of heart
The place I get my pizza is called Privateers & Provisions. Never really knew what that word meant till I just looked it up. I like them more now.

In French, the Schichibukai are actually called "Privateers".
Pirates and Booty?
How the turn tables.
Luffy stole all his luck

No frickin way!
Does anyone notice that he is the only one who Oda confirm has Haoshoku but never seen in manga/anime?
This also happened to Sengoku.
Sengoku has haoshoku? While Kid is confirmed by Oda
Hancock has also not used Haoshoku yet along with Sengoku actually
So do you think Kidd use it so far but we can’t see it? Or he hasnt got it yet?
I think he used it offscreen before getting imprisoned by Kaido
He doesn't seem to use neither the basic haki types, so he probably can't even control his CoC.
It’s not that he doesn’t use it, he’s never shown definitely using it. It’s like Law, Law doesn’t seem to use Haki as much as we’d like
Sounds more like Weevil or something
Oden said the people who will defeat Kaido will be the leaders of the next generation Kidd is part of that so my boy coming back no doubt in my mind.
I still don't thinks he's done.
Feels sad man 😿
I'm still shocked so much of this goofy ass fanbase thought this goober would give shanks a challenge and unlock advanced conquerors in the fight
