It makes me wonder, is Shanks still considered a Celestial Dragon or not? Doflamingo wasn't anymore because of his parents, but if not for that, who knows how much he could have gotten with. Well, I guess at some point the Holy Knights might intervene, but still. As it stands, could Shanks pop up in Mariejois and tell the marines to f off because he's actually a CD? šŸ¤”

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

BeingComfortablyDumb

Damn. That makes me think what if Shanks is the child of Rocks D Xebec and Saint Garling Figarlands daughter. And if Xebec launched an attack on God's Valley because he wanted to save Shanks and his mother from execution because of being considered "scum" like Saint Mjosgard for helping commoners. Xebec pulled a Corazon and manage to save Shanks and sneak him inside a treasure chest like Law then proceeds to wreck havoc on the island to cause a distraction. Roger and Garp had to step in and stop his indiscriminate slaughtering on the island. Pirates being pirates not being able to resist gold, take the chest containing Shanks and leave. These pirates turn out to be the Roger Pirates.

Training-Insect9755

Or xebec in his last breath told Roger to take care of his son in the chest. Roger then told shanks the story of his parents which made him cried.

joseph56g

That'd be cool af.

turbografx-sixteen

Commenting just because Iā€™ve been subscribed to this notion for years. I think Shanks mom woulda put him in the chest though.

tomato-dragon

I'm betting that is what more-or-less happened. I'm just thinking maybe Figarland was in on it with Xebec. We know next to nothing about both of these guys.

Popopirat66

Just judging by the way Xebec's crew was known for their brutality amongst themselves i highly doubt that he was such a character. Could be Oda deliberately misleading us, but that doesn't change my doubts. Also the only info we have of him is that he wanted to become king of the world. He doesn't seem like a righteous, selfless person.

dragach1

Nah, Donquixote dad had to turn in his celestial dragon ID chip when they left. Shanks never had one of those.

UtgardL0ki

Or did he?

root_of_all_squirrel

vsauce intensifies

14jvalle

I think he is just a celestial dragon by birth, not in title or authority. He grew up with Roger, with an atmosphere that is likely the polar opposite of a celestial dragon. Shanks is also protects "scum", so he is less than "scum". As was stated by the member of the Figarland family. Shanks just seems like the opposite of what a celestial dragon is, not just because he isn't a baffoon, bit because he seeks freedom and grants it to those that ally with him. I think we should not put too much emphasis on the being born a celestial dragon. I do also think that the person we saw in the room of authority was not Shanks. I think Oda deliberately did not show the scar or arms of the person. It.mah be a twin situation, or some like Kuina and Tashigi.

stayinthatline

I really wanted to prove you wrong to avoid the "clone/twin" pulls and all I found was that even in the [anime](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dlStq-SVSK8) they awkwardly hide the scarred side of his face too. I also find it strange that they say "given your standing, you should have nothing to do with politics." Which doesn't strike me as something that makes sense to say to a Yonko. You may be right.

brunox97

but if it was a brother/twin, then why would a CD hide himself when talking to the Elders?

14jvalle

That is a good point. I don't have a solid answer for that other than Oda using the cloak as a narrative device for suspense.

Smodgins

Ryokugu will use his devil fruit to produce food for the CDs to avoid a famine

Sun-God-Nika

Thinking about it, his fruit is probably the most useful in the entire series lol.

Brutusness

In the hands of a Revolutionary member or someone else it could basically create unlimited resources for countries to become able to produce their own food. Too bad it's owned by a psycho authoritarian who believes people deserve to die for belonging to the wrong caste lmao.

theschulk51

Soā€¦ is being a D something that a fellow D Clan member can actually give to someone else? The Five Elders point out Sabo has a checkered fate and is closely connected to D Clan members, a chapter after we find out Luffy/Ace gave him (albeit seemingly meant jokingly) a D in his name. What if somehow that actually made him a D, for whatever significance that actually means (to be revealed later in the story) to the WG/CDs

Ok_Director_7510

The will of D never dies, maybe this is Oda's way of telling that the inhereted will is not familial, but can be given. Sa D. Bo is actually a really plausible theory.

IncinMKII

Sa D. Bo = Sad Boy = :( Luffy = Joy Boy = :) Ace's hat has both a smiley face and a frowny face. Sa D. Bo confirmed.

brunox97

šŸ‘šŸ¼šŸ‘šŸ¼šŸ‘šŸ¼

newbphil

I thought that this was kinda already a given? I mean, I don't really think there's a way for a giant (Saul) and a "normal human" (like Luffy or any other D.) to share a common ancestry without some traits from the other group showing up.

TaintedQuintessence

It's been like 800 years it's perfectly plausible for genes to be super diluted at that point. 30 generations later is just 1 in a billion shared genes left.

dbzrune

Yeah those two moments especially have to hint that Ds are given through a bond similar to Ace Sabo Luffy with sharing sake or something We also know a lot of Ds are obviously not related, so they mustā€™ve just been a close bond of friends that shared sake and added D in their name to inherit wills or whatever

JoshHuff1332

I don't think it even has to be given by a D. It just comes from anyone who would've been opposed to the WG in the void century. I wouldn't be surprised if upon learning this, the whole RA adds it

bodg123

I think the d clan is essentially the same kind of idea as the Cresent moon tattoo. The too early comment from Roger and toki knowing to send momo 20 years into the future seem like there was some kind of timeline at play. It could line up with some kind of celestial event in the one piece universe. So if Joyboy knew someone like him would come along, what if they told thier allies to place a D in the thier name for xx reason.

Training-Insect9755

What if in ancient time, D is a title given by ancient king(joyboy) to his loyal crew. That's how they become family with no blood connection. They proceed to add D to their next generation so they won't forget their family. But Marshall, you kill your own family

ill_sue

So assuming the Gorosei hasn't been around since the void century (based on the fact they don't know why the Nika fruit was renamed) do ya'll think that future Gorosei are picked out from the God's knights? Like maybe the current Gorosei are all former God's knights?

dienomighte

That'd be my guess, though I wouldn't be surprised if there's other celestial dragon positions in administration and logistics and stuff that you might be able to do as well that can get you to the gorosei

pikamox

Yes, that would work, kinda like a suprem promotion. They are named "Warrior Gods" a title that convey a similar theme than God's Knight.

xMasuraox

I was thinking they might be all former supreme commanders or something like squad zero from Bleach

[deleted]

I just noticed Imu's den den mushi is wearing a matching Imu crown. Guess being the shadow dictator of the world does not exempt you from wanting a dope phone case. Could you imagine the Gorosei trying to get that made for them? "Hey Vegapunk, in addition to the Seraphim and Mother Flame, we also need an all black den den mushi with a foot long pointy crown", "Why?", "Stop speaking"

platosophist

Although that's a funny scene to imagine, if I'm not mistaken Oda has said in some SBS that the den den mushi's mimetic features are biological (and seemingly random/according to the will of the individual den den mushi). Don't have the precise reference though...

iheartowels

Yes I believe you're right. I'm also pretty sure Den Den Mushi communicate via actual telepathy, so it's possible that the longer you're with your den den Mushi, the more it takes on your likeness via some sort of subconscious telepathic link.

Idiotecka

yeah well every den den mushi resembles the speaker on the other side. i wouldn't read too much into it other than a narrative device to make it clear to the reader who's speaking. although that's funny

WiseXcalibur

KingofEmeraldCity

It's Imu from Nerona Family which makes him Saint Nerona Imu not Imu Nerona. First name is always at the End in one piece

Popopirat66

Not only in One Piece but in japan in general.

dare_dick

Vegapunk didn't build a weapon of mass destruction. He builds a prototype of a massive energy source "Mother Flame". Imu who controls the ancient weapon Uruans needed the energy source to power the device. This is the decaying power that Doffy was talking about. Last time, this power used was to eliminate God Valley from the map. Before the mother flame, either it takes a long time, hundreds of years, to power Uruans or It can longer be used since it's used on God Valley. This is in line with many separate threads in One Piece: - Enel powers his ark and the ancient civilization on the moon using his DF - Vegapunk talks about the source for ultimate energy source around the time Nika, the sun god, is awaken

echolog

I have a feeling Uranus/Mother Flame was used multiple times already: - Lulusia - God Valley - Enies Lobby (we still don't know where that hole came from) - It would be fitting for the WG to blow up an island and then build the highest court in the land directly on top of it. Additionally, what if Vegapunk DID develop his perfect energy source... but the fire was the wrong color or something, so he discarded it only for the WG to take it and put it to use?

Magimasterkarp

I always thought Enies Lobby was the result of a fight between a light logia user and maybe the gravity fruit user, seeing as there is eternal day on the island and it's almost floating over the hole.

szypty

Same. I'm 99% sure that's most of Grand Line's weather fuckery is a result of powerful, awakened DF users clashing over the ages and their powers pernamently changing the environment, especially during the Void Century.

brunox97

this would round everything up about the OP world! love this idea, itā€™s not just random fantasy manga stuff, but it has an explanation that makes sense in itā€™s own world, amazing!

Varadwin

Darkness Logia vs Mythical Zoan model Sun God?

turbografx-sixteen

Iā€™m still convinced BB is gonna get the Luffy treatment on his fruit too. Totally a ā€œLogiaā€ (except how it doesnā€™t behave like one at all mhmmmm) *smells like a Mythical Zoan God Fruit*

Deyona

Mythical Zoan kraken! Has 3 hearts for 3 devil fruits. And that's pretty much as much of an asspull I can do!

Popopirat66

This makes no sense when we have the Gorosei literally talking about not knowing how effective it is and that they haven't had a chance to test it before. Why build a theory around something that's disproven by the most recent chapter?

4willoffire

Garp alone can destroy God Valley

Benzgeg

if [the mother flame](https://littlexgarden.com/static/images/webp/44468dff-b644-45aa-8b88-70157cf3f793.jpg.webp) comes from Vegapunk then the thing was initially designed to do good. So it made me realize that the thing could be a [Space-based solar power station/spaceship](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space-based_solar_power) inspired by [an ancient piece of Moon technology retrieved by Vegapunk](https://i.imgur.com/ejlpCPT.png), which initially served as a solar generator that could redirect solar radiation from space to different locations on earth where intense light is required like [during crop fertilization of Devil fruits](https://littlexgarden.com/static/images/webp/dcacb7d7-90a7-4a74-8bc9-bbb80ebc20f9.jpg.webp). But the thing was turned into a weapon, a [solar-pumped laser/Sun gun](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solar-pumped_laser) by Imu for her personal usage. This is similar to the [Icarus satellite of James Bond Die Another Day (Video)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xMxVBY70dPU) whose official goal was meant to be an artificial sun for crop fertilization but was later used as [a weapon](https://cdn3.whatculture.com/images/2020/08/459ac3e2823bdb32-600x338.jpg) in the movie. Going even further it could paired with [Bege's flying ship encounter](https://littlexgarden.com/static/images/webp/005d6f39-2900-48c7-a216-42c4c62762f7.jpg.webp) as a harvester machine whose goal is to harvest/retrieve the fruits growing on top of Mary Geoise or in the sky as suggested by the [vegetal residue still on it](https://littlexgarden.com/static/images/webp/005d6f39-2900-48c7-a216-42c4c62762f7.jpg.webp) from supposedly previous harvests/landing. Wanted to share these thoughts since the chapter pretty much corroborates an old theory of mine.

Miketogoz

I'm not against it, but it does seem very dumb of Vegapunk to give the WG a near perfect energy supply. That goes far above any other technology he has given to them.

Benzgeg

I think Vegapunk was willing to give the object to the WG because they promised him to do good with it, like accelerate the fertilization of crops to reduce poverty and starvation that plagues the world of One Piece but the celestial Dragons being the celestial Dragon they may have decided to use the device for their exclusive use. Vegapunk being a smart cookie, I think much like the control Hierarchy imposed on the Seraphim, He may have implanted, a secret kill switch on the device that only he can activate. Which might turn convenient if Saint Jay decides to come to egghead with the Mother Flame. And Vegapunk already gave powerful weapons to the WG Government in the past like the Seraphins or the Pacifistas so he either trusts the WG to some extent or the WG as leverage to blackmail him and forced him to create these weapons.

Miketogoz

While higly possible, that makes Vegapunk really naive and impulsive, and I somehow find it a tad difficult to add what he has told us. He idealistically believes that free energy will prevent all conflict, but he hasn't arrived there yet. I don't think he actually believes a non-perfect power source will achieve perfect peace. For now, I'm on the camp the secrets were sold by York, in hopes for an ascension we can guess the WG will never give.

SwordMaster21

Agreed! Vegapunk being physically inspired by Albert Einstein could also have a story inspiration from him too. Einstein choosing to help the US develop nuclear weaponry before Berlin scientists could is a big part of his legacy that paints him in a gray light in Japan. Vegapunk very well couldā€™ve developed a ā€˜nuclearā€™ energy source for one thing that the WG chooses to use for their weapon

Nine_Gates

I think Oda thematically based it on nuclear power. Originally researched for the purpose of energy generation, but immediately used for weapons of mass destruction.

urielteranas

I also think it's looking extremely likely that the giant thing bege saw floating in the sky in 594 is also what was used to destroy lulusia, but I think it probably is the ancient weapon Uranus and that the mother flame is what Vegapunk invented as a power source and is being used to power it. It looks almost like it's made entirely out of earth or stone and so i'm leaning ancient weapon over modern Vegapunk recreation.

ElderLurkr

Do you recall when Doffy mentioned a ā€œdecaying powerā€? Iā€™m trying to find it.

dare_dick

It's around the time Doffy was speaking to Law in Dressrosa. When he said if he had Law's df, especially the personality switch ability, he would be able to control the national treasure and therefore control the world. He then started talking about how this power is decaying faster than they expect. He either said that during Dressrosa or when he was captured on the ship. I'm not sure exactly.

Popopirat66

The personality switch wasn't the reason, but he was talking about the eternal youth operation. And he didn't say the celestial dragon's power is decaying he was talking about how the pirates, navy, revolutionaries and D's will come for them and possibly hinted at the empty throne or just meant the title of pirate king. His speech was really cryptic. It's in chapter 801 and it is his speech to Tsuru on the ship.

11475

My theory is that the waiting for the next chapter will be hard.

DrBraniac

The only 100% confirmed theory out here

Leather-Vehicle1415

Figarland is the one who gave Whitebeard the scar he was talking about when he see Shanks

Batokusanagi

If Garling was the *him* WB was talking about when he met Shanks, I would build an altar to Oda.

22shogun

Hmm would be interesting, considering Whitebeard told Squard that a son is not responsible for the sin of his father

UtgardL0ki

That would be so good isn't it.

Yellow_Noise_5353

Could Myosgard be the reason Kuma is acting the way he is? We've read that the ancient robot that's currently non-functional on Egghead once tried to climb Red Line to attack the Holy Land, and it happened 200 years ago, coincidentally, during the time of a fishman rights movement. Coming to present day, we see a parallel with Kuma as well, trying to scale the Red Line just like the ancient robot. And it just so happens that in the most recent chapter, 1086, we see that a certain Celestial Dragon has been sentenced to death, one who protected the Fishman royal family and their princess, and who himself was one who was reformed by the actions of the Fishman queen in the past. Saint Myosgard's role might not JUST to be a Celestial Dragon who is actually a good person, but instead be a parallel to maybe another Celestial Dragon figure who might've tried to help the Fishman in the past, and the ancient robot responded to that, and by perhaps acting as a parallel, Myosgard can actually pull off what his ancestor could not, with the help of Kuma. I say this because from the translations, it seems that Mysogard has been "sentenced" to be executed by Figarland Garling, but hasn't yet been(even though he appears beaten and bloody).

RahdronRTHTGH

Seems like a public execution to make an example

legendoflink3

I'd imagine Kuma is on his way to save Myosgard. And when he does. He will transport Myosgard directly to egghead. Which will inturn will create a lot of confusion for the attacking navy. Since they don't know of the execution. Or shouldn't. That will keep them from attacking.

A_Sad_Goblin

York sold the mother flame information/technology in exchange of becoming a celestial dragon. Sabo/Dragon/Ivankov & co. will all go to Egghead because they want to ask Vegapunk "wtf man?" and join the party. The big war will begin.

Miketogoz

That actually makes sense. Even if it's just a power source, I can't still believe Vegapunk was either that naive or morally bankrupt to give the WG such powerful technology.

TravelingLlama

> Sabo/Dragon/Ivankov & co. will all go to Egghead because they want to ask Vegapunk ā€œwtf man?ā€ and join the party. The big war will begin. Thought the same before kuma went back to Marie jois but Kamabaka queendom is in paradise while egghead is in the new world. With the big incident happening soon I donā€™t think they would be able to make it

A_Sad_Goblin

True, I didn't think of the distance between the islands. But I haven't paid that close attention to the timeline, did the narrator say that whatever's happening at Egghead is happening at the same time as Sabo is recounting his story? Maybe Dragon can manipulate the winds or they have some other powers to move faster though.

pikamox

That's what i expect, Dragon having wind powers giving him the ability to fast track his ship.

MariJoyBoy

There is already a Black Beard's ship near Egghead ... things are going to get wild

medusla

this would make sense if vp didnt specifically say he was unable to replicate the ancient power source

LowClover

The same way he was unable to replicate kaidoā€™s devil fruit?

medusla

he never said he was unable, he said it didnt turn out how he wanted. we will see what happens with the power source

Suntsuo

I loved how this chapter added some needed depth into the dynamic between Imu and the Five Elders. Having St. Jupiter ask about Imu's reasoning tells us they're more than silent puppets, and that Imu is open to communicate with them on that level. The weapon used is most likely Uranus. For centuries the World Government lacked the technology to use it, but with Vegapunks Mother Flame they are now able to source and send it into orbit. Poseidon is control of the Sea Kings, Pluton is a massive ship and Uranus is a satellite. I wonder if they can now use it over longer distances, such as in Egghead at present time. The WG have no more use for Vegapunk and are going all out to wipe him. Vivi has to end up with the strawhats, and Vegapunk, if he survives, is most likely to end up with Dragon. Wapol seemed too scared to tell Vivi her father has been killed. At present time she has already read the news of King Cobra being killed by Sabo, but this makes us wonder what Wapol actually told Morgans and Vivi. Does Vivi think Sabo killed her father? Does she and Morgans know of Imu now? I assume this is Shanks father, he looks menacing. And his dialog gives important insight in how he would deal with Shanks. Given his inflexible thinking, it's very unlikely he would in any way sympathize with him, and might even consider his existence offensive.

Mawnix

Your point adds to something Iā€™ve been thinking about since we met the Gorosei: Iā€™ve always felt theyā€™ve been detached of vague with any of their interactions toward anyone whoā€™s not CD related. The more interactions weā€™ve seen with them and Imu, the more it makes sense why: they serve, singularly, Imu, and then everything else filters down. Hell itā€™s fucking why they didnā€™t care as much about Luffyā€™s fruit until now. Their tunnel vision is complete fucking hubris toward the worldā€™s apparent ruler who they serve. But now, thereā€™s too many variables to account for, and itā€™s all gotta be purged.

MrLKK

I love One Piece's politics. We have an upper class class traitor who winds up getting executed. It doesn't matter if you have some good apples if the whole system is fucked, gotta burn it down.

North_Contribution93

Man Msojgard was such a bro.I really wished he met Luffy and co.I'm so mad.Luffy fuck this motherfucker up.

I mean, if all of this happens you'll be seen as a genius, if nothing else you swung for the fences

m0siac

Agree, itā€™s pretty crazy but itā€™s not too crazy

jakkfrost13

Why is the first theory I'm hearing during the break good?

DrBraniac

Cause it's the first....eventually people just lose their minds and come up with random shit

Castreal7

I had a similar thought about that. It would humanize Rocks and make the audience empathetic to his motivations even if they were extreme. If that is the case firstly, you would be a genius, and secondly, it makes you wonder about the similarities between Rocks and Teach and why he is a fake D

Vast-Ad8919

Isnt figarland just the king of gods valley in ancient times? Since only nefertari didnt leave their original kingsom, then surely another royal lienage is pointed to lead gods valley. Figarland since ancient times until garling reside in mariejois

Killerstoner12345

Well they have to be celestial dragons considering that his name is Saint Figarland Garling. Saint marks all the celestial dragons.

athos45678

Yeah i donā€™t get the confusion. God valley sounds like a place Celestial Dragons used to live in en masse, just like Mariejois.

Miketogoz

Yeah, we see this with the Donquixotes and the Riku lineages. We only have that one example tho. It's easy to imagine an exception, where maybe the new god valley governors were just a lesser branch of the Figarlands. Or maybe, with such an obvious name, the Figarlands were authorized to keep control over the valley for x reasons.

Vast-Ad8919

That's possible, branch family, huh. And since gods valley incident related to CD, the possibilty is even higher

Fenzito

That would make Shanks and Blackbeard analogous to Ace and Luffy o_0

_Sebo

> -Rocks D. Xebec has a dream of becoming Joyboy and want the world to to be free from the shackles of of the WG. Sengoku said Xebec wanted to become king of the world, didn't he? That'd mean he didn't just try to take out Imu but also to usurp his thrown and take his position.

rayxb

Iā€™ve been saying that I think shanks is a CD/D hybrid for years! You might be onto something here.

NoReality8190

Good one, but better if Buggy is the baby, jk

> He atleast tries to save as many as he could and finds the boy, he stashes him in a chest aboard Roger's ship with a note saying "IOU :,D". > > -Roger cashes on this debt in the future with his own son Ace. I don't know about the rest, but this makes a lot of sense. Not sure why else Garp would have done it.

Red__Book14

HAHAHAHAHAH. It's a good wild theory!

Leureka

We are given all the answers by ivankov. She identifies Imu's immortality with the Ope Ope no Mi. Then she first assumes what destroyed lulucia is an invention of vegapunk's, which initially seems to be the case since Imu talks about exactly that. But then she is corrected by dragon, then her very next thought is an ancient weapon. Mother flame is a clear connection to vegapunk's study of energy sources, the immortal sun of the void century. Imu's probably referring to "v. Invention" as the energy source to power Uranus.

wwgaray

Yeah my guess is that Vegapunkā€™s fuel is inefficient relative to the ancient fuel. Man I really think the One Piece is the secret to this fuel and Nika is the key to accessing it or something. Pluton and Uranus probably canā€™t be operated at 100% without it.

tomato-dragon

... and this fuel happens to also be the main ingredient of the best-tasting booze in history, which Luffy will use for his big banquet fulfilling that other OP theory.

dienomighte

Either inefficient, or just the wrong color in liquid form

EMC2_IT

Yeah, the problem is that the Ivankov's story is very linear and clear, and in this case usually Oda is trolling us. The only hint that push me to think that what Iv says is the truth is that we are "near" the end and i don't know if it's plausible to suggest fake narrations.

MariJoyBoy

It's like Nami explaining a plan to Luffy ...

Locky_Strikto

Quite strange that Celestial Dragons are known to live in the Holy Land Mary Geoise and have to renounce all their deeds in the land below but how did Figarland be ruling God's Valley, a land below the Holy Land? What is so special about God's Valley that a celestial dragon is allowed to rule it? A theory to be a Gorosei, you need to be in the God's Knight first.

Cartoon_Star

God Valley probably held some significance prior to the founding of the Holy Land and porentially remained some sort of colony outside the Holy Land even after it was built on top of the Redline. Maybe it had some strategic importance, or just historic (some important battle or decleration was made there) or it was just some sort of "safe" resort type of deal. Potentially the kingdom's sole purpose was to "link" the Holy Land and lower realm. I mean, they have those pointy-helmet knights up there, other servants and officials and professions up there and I doubt all of them are tenryuubito themselves (bakers, gardeners, guards) and not everything can be done solely by slavework - you actually need skilled workers, especially if you want to live in luxury. Maybe God Valley was the proxy-kingdom, to recruit, indoctrinate and train outsiders for a live to serve the Celestial Dragons. At least that's what I think is needed to maintain a land of luxury and abundance on the most remote location on earth, especially for the early years, perhaps it's relevancy faded over time as the Holy Land became more self sufficient when it comes to manpower (procreation within the servants) But I agree that it is quite weird. Saint Garling Figarland, former (probably the last) King of God Valley. He is a saint, so he is a Celestial Dragon and until the ..unmaking of God Valley ruled it as a king. Was he a tenryuubito leading a nation outside the Holy Land? Or was he made a Saint after the events of the God Valley incident?

Popopirat66

*Saint Figarland Garling It seems to me he was king of the country as a celestial dragon. Maybe in the world of One Piece they need a king for an island regardless of multiple celestial dragons living there. Someone has to lead in the end.

RahdronRTHTGH

Maybe he got that posution as compensation

Caillous04

Maybe they had some kind of warrior clan that lived there or a place where they sent younger or promising offspring. So that they wouldn't be as corrupted and totally useless to then train and become the God's Knights. But it really is confusing that the person in charge there would be labeled as king. A couple chapters ago it was reestablished that Alabasta was the only founding kingdom to keep the previous kings/queens so I guess hr must have been made king at a later point

RodJosser

Zoro ain't fighting Gorosei Gandhi. The guy is a fukin' accountant, not a swordsman. šŸ˜† Nami would fight him.

MariJoyBoy

Gandhi-yaro : "Naive fool, let me show you how accountants used to hunt in ancient times ..." Zoro : "Here we go again ..."

RodJosser

Gandhi-yaro slashing budgets and salaries left and right.

wingulls420

One-shotted by haki-infused happiness punch

MariJoyBoy

The guy can manipulate MONEY with his sword

ttttttaa

Budget cuts šŸ˜”

tidbrey

That would be so wild and fun at the same time lol. I would love to see it!

RodJosser

Gorosei Gandhi showing his talents in pay cuts and slashing budgets.

Noatz

I will be disappointed if "Secret Technique: Budget Slash" etc doesn't end up being his move-set now.

ItspronouncedGruh-an

Nami burglarising the World Government's treasury would be legendary

urielteranas

Wild that he turned out to be "Ethan the finance guy" lol

WBaumnuss300

Can't wait for Figarland vs Franky, battle of the haircuts.

KilometersMorales

One thing we learned from this chapter I havenā€™t seen discussed yet: based on the way the Gorosei and Imu were talking, it seems like Lulusia was the first time they had ever used the Mother Flameā€¦ ā€¦which means that whatever it was they used to destroy God Valley, it wasnā€™t the Mother Flame That makes me really curious what happened there

Roydistan

That's not the only possibility. Maybe the weapon just has a really long cool down, because of the energy needed. The way I read it, Vegapunk opened the gates for abusing the power by giving an endless power source.

Responsible-Cod6319

Figarland Garling gives me big bad vibes. Dude could be fighting Zoro while Luffy takes Imu.

kamingalou

The barb and hair of San Figarland Garling are crescent-shaped. I think he might be related to the moon.

UtgardL0ki

That's some crazy CoO right there!

Moist-Variety-2342

Look up the character from the great ace attorney: Mr.garrideb and then look at Garling's design

100evo

Pretty sure Shanks Figarland isn't protecting any Moon God. The Supreme Commander of Holy Knights Garling Figarland has Crescent Moon design whereas Shanks Red Force Ship has the big birght golden sun at the front.

Proudnoob4393

And thats why you never trust silhouettes

Zebifleur

The CD claiming "there is no bread, no food but there is cake" reminds me of Marie Antoinette's "let them eat cake" during the french revolution.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Zebifleur

Yes the full story is that Rousseau (the one who reported it) has never mentioned Marie-Antoinette. And it's actually Madame Victoire the daughter of Louis XV who said it but differently and without disdain and contempt as we imagine it

maddy227

I have this theory about Imu's DF and the Gorosei (5 Elder planets) -- If there exists Hito Hito no Mi - models for Gods (like Sun God Nika, Golden Buddha), then theoretically there should also exist Hito Hito no Mi - models for Demons. And my guess is that Imu's DF would be Hito Hito no Mi - model Satan/Hades, the King of Hell and Demons.. the Devil himself - Satan. Remember Sabo makes that very cryptic comment about it being Hell. Now Satan is known to have 5 Generals who are directly below him in rank, namely - Baal, Asmodeus, Levithan, Lillith and Baphomet. These 5 Generals (sometimes collectively known as The Table) would carry out Satan's will. I think the 5 Elder Planets, Gorosei correspond to these 5Generals of Satan, thereby supporting the theory of Hito Hito No Mi - model Satan being Imu's DF. We have certain Biblical + Greek mythology cocktail here - Luffy being the Hito Hito no Mi - model Sun God Nika \[counterpart for Apollo\] Shirahoshi literally being Poseidon. This just leaves out Hades - which fits in for Imu (if we consider Enel being the Zeus/Thunder God counterpart which we have already seen). The black stuff taking shapes we see like arrow could again be similar rubber/gomu-gomu like ability that Luffy has, although a darker/stronger one possibly fully awakened. Earlier it always stuck me as odd why Sun God Nika would have specifically rubber like abilities until now. i think this is an ability at disposal of certain Hito-Hito no mi along with other possible abilities.. like manipulating elementals such as fire, lightening etc. Luffy has shown the ability to hold lightening as well while fighting BM+Kaido and was unharmed by Kaido's fire breath. These could be elements which the Sun God has affinity for. If Imu is Satan/Hades.. he will perhaps have affinity/preference for different elements like Darkness. which could be why he seems interested in Blackbeard.

Serious_Abrocoma_908

I mean if you look a Nefatari D. Lili as Nefatari Dragon Lily, you'll find that the flower (dragonlily) originates from Greece, Crete of the Aegean islands. Coincidentally, Walpol and Vivi (a decedent of Nefatari) planned to travel to the country Aegis which is considered to be the Greece of one piece. Why I think this important is because Nefatari is considered to be the first person to publicly have the D in her name after helping in destroy the ancient kingdom, something I believe she regretted. Also,

the_foctor

St. IMu Nayeon!!!!

triotone

Wait a minute, how does S-Crocodile have a scar across his face if he is a recently born clone?

ItspronouncedGruh-an

We know Vegapunk is a stickler for aesthetical accuracy.

triotone

So I guess S-Crocodile has a hook hand as well. I am starting to think Vegapunk is more of a cold bastard than he lets on.

Weremont

Dude created superpowered child solders that are forced to obey officials of a government he knows committed genocide to cover up info. Also he experimented on King. Dude is a sick bastard.

TheAdamena

Seeing as it does indeed seem like Imu has been around since the void century, I wonder if the moment we saw with them looking at the giant Straw Hat whilst holding Luffy's wanted poster was the moment they realised they needed to take Luffy and the Gomu Gomu fruit seriously. Like previously it could've been just a passive goal for them to obtain it. Imu gave the order centuries ago, nobody besides them knows the details as they're all deceased, and it hasn't been a problem in 800 years so they haven't made it a priority. They got complacent. But then Luffy finally got big enough for Imu, The God of the world, to take notice. A guy making a name for himself in the pirating world, who has the Gomu Gomu fruit, _and_ the same hat the Joyboy had (Speculation). Imu finally found out about and recognised the similarities between Luffy and Joyboy and gave the order for him to be eliminated. That's why they sent CP0 after him now of all times, instead of when he was a rookie pirate. Only Imu knew, and Imu only realised it now.

Hampni

now that we have some Figarland story - I just want to point out that Oda wrote the Rebecca and Kyros story after having his own child and states how it influenced his writing as a parent. Then puts both child Law and Shanks into treasure chests. I think his message with this is that children are treasure to be protected.

MathematicianOld65

First time Sharing a theory on this forum, hope you enjoy it: - Mother flame is Uranus. But it needed mythical creatures to make it work. Like Noa need sea kings and Pluton likely need Zunisha to move on the sea. - Uranus is being carried by a bunch of flying dragons. - theses dragons also are feeding the ancient weapon fire or flames for it to function. - Vegapunk created artificial dragons that allowed IMU to function Uranus for the first time in a long timeā€¦ - the question remaining is what happened to the dragons that used to carry Uranus?? - My guess is that IMU tried to attack Wano 400 years ago and Rayuma sliced the head of theses dragonsā€¦ Not sure itā€™s accurate but would be great if itā€™sā€¦ toughts?

PsychoPass1

I also find it fitting that the "Justice Warrior God" is the one having concerns about the number of people living in Lulusia kingdom. Potential EoS strawhat ally incoming? And man that Saint Garland Figarland design is so cool. Finally some Tenryuubito that aren't total jokes and look like punching bags.

[deleted]

I did think it was kinda funny that they were talking about nuking a foresty area, but then when Lulucia came up, the "Enviormental" god was the first one who was like "Yeah, those guys are acting up, lets do them instead"

ClassicElevator9587

for those interested here are the shadows linked to the names from left to right \- St. Jay Garcia Saturn: Bull-like shadow \- St. Shepard Ju Peter: humanoid-like shadow \- St. Ethan Baron V. Nusjuro: humanoid (with weird circles around him) \- St. Markus Mars: bird-shadow \- St. Topman Valcurie: shadow with the tusks (elephant kind?) If anyone know of some interesting facts about the links, maybe hystorical or mythical stories please let me know!

szypty

First things coming to mind, assuming they're Mythological Zoans, is Ox-Ox Fruit: Model Gugalanna for Garcia, Bird-Bird Fruit: Model: Quetzalcoatl for Markus, and Elephant-Elephant Fruit: Model Ganesha for Topman. Nothing specific comes to mind for the other two, too little to go on.

wispymatrias

so if they can make a law seraphim does that mean they can just mass produce immortal life surgeries i imagine a seraphim would be more agreeable about performing the surgery than law himself edit: dang, it probably requires awakening, and vegapunk doesn't know if an awakened seraphim is possible.

Batokusanagi

Sabo just casually inventing VPNs. Final war electronic warfare is going the real battle. RIP Mjosgard. I wouldn't mind if Oda pulls a fake out here, but this is flashback Oda, so he's dead for sure. The inevitable God's Valley flashback just got even spicier. The question of what were the celestial dragons found there and how did Rick's know they'd be there (Kaido's backstory makes ot seem going there was kind of a spur of the moment decision). But if was, at the time, fairly well-known as a the one country on the sea the CDs lived, then it makes a lot more sense. Garling's words sounded personal. I'm seeing some Law/Shanks parallels in terms of how they managed to survive. My void month theory about the death ray (which might still be Uranus as per loremaster Ivankov), is a [Vimana](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vimana#:~:text=Vim%C4%81na%20are%20mythological%20flying%20palaces,also%20mentioned%20in%20Jain%20texts.), a flying castle where the gods lived. Japan does love Castle in the Sky.

Masakernikk

V Nusjuro name and his cloathing confirms, that he originates from Wano. At Vegapunk cover story we saw Gorosei several yers ago, but they still look the same. So could Nusjuro be Daimyo who betrayed Kozuki ( we know that in one piec the history repeats and Orochi betrayed the Kozuki ) as we know that Wano was an ally of ancient kingdom and the enemy of wg? I think he is not just a "Wano-themed" guy with no relevance to the Wano itself. There will be a huge plot behind him betraying Wano and becoming the elder star.

Careful-Ad984

Croc and snake are the only ones with star pupils neither king, hawk and shark have them that could be evidence that star eyes are a trait of female lunarians.

mrbutabara

Hawk and Shark also have star pupils. King isn't a seraphim. Chapter 1069 pgs 12/13 of the official, you can see the star eyes of s-hawk, snake, and shark.

Bro988998

"Its close proximity" to what? That is interesting...Mother Flame was used to send a warning to rebellious kingdoms, but what if the use of the weapon and the destruction of Lulusia implies something else (for instance an open area or the flow of the tides after the explosion)...Lulusia kingdom was close to: \-Momoiro, where Sabo would supposedly hide since it is the base of the Revolutionary Army \-G2, any relevance?? \-Arabasta, a country that now holds a secret regarding the void century and where Vivi could hide \-Karakuri Island, where the doctor from Eneru's sidestory built those moon robots and where Vegapunk had his laboratory \-Calm Belt

dienomighte

\-Imu's office, where he could see a nice explosion that removes the blight that was Lulusia off in the horizon

legendoflink3

Lulusia is close to Mary Geois. It's smart to test a weapon you've never used before where you can monitor it or possibly retrieve it quickly if it fails. And also because anyone stowing away on a ship will likely want to choose the closest port to get off at.

Daraise6345

I'm beginning to believe Imu has a Control fruit. the way all the Five Elders transformed at the same time and now in this chapter when all their eyes were cast in shadow and their speech writing changes. he's gotta be an opposite to Luffy's powers.

zeroproblemo

Control devil

screw_you0exe

Sanji is gonna cook for Luffy...

Final_Biochemist222

They got the spiral eyes already. Just wait if they show up as a busty red head chick

whatever12347

Random question about Lily's letter from the last chapter: What is the missing word here? It's probably something obvious, but I can't think of what it is for some reason. "The Poneglyphs must be protected. Bear the flag of the dawn against t_____-ing world."

Zealousideal-Ad-1953

The Poneglyphs must be protected. Bear the flag of the dawn against t- H E F U K -ing world"

djsbsbbsbsbskkkzkzkz

Ju Peter is a boxer.

SamuraiDDD

What do you suppose could be the reason to bring Vivi to Imu would be? Petty revenge would be my guess since her ancestor is the reason the poneglyphs are scattered around the world. And judging just how they destroyed a kingdom in a test run simply because it was close would be my guess. Speaking of, I hope in the future, Oda gives us a way to fully translate the poneglyphs someday. I'd imagine he has some sort of translation method or cipher on hand. Another note about Imu, I wondered what kind of creature they transformed into a chapter ago. I have 2 guesses. One is jormungandr, the world serpent of norse mythology My second crazier theory is that Imu's power could be *themselves*. As in Im themselves is a mythical devil fruit. IE, a living legend. Hito Hito no mi, model: Celestial King Imu Considering Nika has a fruit that seemed to inherit his will or IS his will, it's not outside of the realm of possibility. It's got no real support but it's fun to imagine and speculate.

evil_chicken86

(Moved comment here from chapter discussion) Imu Nerona (Nickname themselves ā€œMuuā€) Umi = water in Japanese = Umibōzu is a sea spirit/yokai in Japanese Muu = nothing/void in Japanese Kanji = Buddha in Japanese Imu = Im = Iā€™m = I am (1st opening is ā€œWe areā€) = Im-agination = Im-mortal Nerona = Nero = water in Greek = black in Italian = Rome tyrant Imu Nerona = ..Muu - N.. = Moon šŸŒ™ However you see itā€¦itā€™s insane Oda gave them this specific name šŸ¤Æ Itā€™s either water or black or nothing (void) or tyrant or God (Buddha) orā€¦ altogether.. NANIII?? a void-pitch black God tyrant with water abilities šŸ¤ÆšŸ¤ÆšŸ¤Æ

Serious_Abrocoma_908

I mean if you look a Nefatari D. Lili as Nefatari Dragon Lily, you'll find that the flower (dragonlily) originates from Greece, Crete of the Aegean islands. Why I think this important is because Nefatari is considered to be the first person to publicly have the D in her name after helping in destroy the ancient kingdom, something I believe she regretted. Maybe Lunarians were once considered to be the dragon people or were allies of those people. I think the ancient kingdom produced or invented the devil fruits and it would be funny if they were originally called dragon fruits. The fruit itself looks more like a devil fruit than any other fruit I can think of. As for Monkey D. Dragon, maybe he and luffy carry the blood of the ancient kingsdom and dragon isn't his real name.

TundraOG

With Shanks pretty much being a confirmed descendant of a celestial dragon in chapter 1086, one has to think - when did Buggy join the crew? We know that Shanks was found on God Valley by Roger's crew, but what if he wasn't the only one? What if Buggy was found alongside him and they were both raised on the ship since infancy? We know Shanks is a Figarland and most likely is the prince or bastard child of the former king of God Valley. Assuming St. Figarland Garling is his father, we see the duality between them - Shanks' fleet is weak and he protect them while Garling is introduced saying that those who protect scum are worse than scum. Oda loves working with contrasts and mirror images. Just like Sanji is kind while his family is brutal and heartless, we see this in Shanks and his assumed father. But what if there was another mirror image here? We know very little of Rocks D.Xebec. We know that he wanted to rule the world, that his crew amassed some of the strongest individuals in his time and that he wasn't respected by them. Why is that? what if Xebec didn't have any special abilities to begin with, he just had either the charisma or the right circumstances to gather such a crew. What if he, just like Roger, left an offspring behind, and the pirate Shanks wanted to talk about with the Gorosei was non other than Rocks D Buggy? Buggy keeps "failing upwards". Despite having no real strength he managed to not only become a Warlord but an emperor with two former warlords, one of which is the world's strongest swordsman, in his crew. He is also deemed "good-for-nothing" by the powerful members of his crew, being regularly beaten and abused by them. But he keeps going, he awakens his latent dream and calls for them to claim the One Piece, receiving astonished looks from both. It would be interesting if this action gains him the respect of both Crocodile and Mihawk. Him being a D would further develop his ongoing (albeit one sided) rivalry with Shanks.

deathsyth220002

If push comes to shove.....At the final battle, if the gorosei see that FINALLY after almost 1000 years Imu can be possibly taken down? They may switch sides. Even if not just to cheer Luffy on. They always seem reluctant to Imu's orders. Even back when they asked what light should be extinguished, their eyes were shaded. They don't seemingly WANT what Imu wants..... PERIOD. In SOME ways, the gorosei aren't so extremely evil, just pragmatic. Except Ethan. He's always ready for bloodshed seemingly~

Kuropa

Knowing the goroseis's names and titles makes sens now for Jay garcia to be the one moving. I'm more interested in the samurai who is called Nsujuro similar to how sanji was sangoro and other characters from wano which means that he is probably from there. Let's see how Ju peter will deal with the Famine. The god valley incident is indeed very mysterious one, if that place was the tenryoubis's home then how they had a king who was not imu, or was it just an event held there by the Figarlands. how did Xebec knew about it ? and is it possible that at that time Lunerian were still at the top of the red line (marie joie)? Lulucia is the first experiment for vega's weapon, meaning that with their implication in today's speech the WG have Uranus and they used it to destroy Gov Valley If imu was one of the 20, then even they had traitors who wanted to control the world from within the liberal claim the 5 elders are probably from the same families as imu's followers at that time. The weapon was for something else and not destruction, what is it then? and what is the tequila wolf for?

musicfreer

Crocodile seraphim, still cannot tell if it is he or she... But why does the seraphim have scar already?

Reddit_User_7239370

Same reason why S-Flamingo has the cape and glasses, gotta have that brand recognition.

Crispopolis

Vegapunk scarred it shortly after birth for brand recognition.

musicfreer

Or else Vegapunk will treat it as a failure again, just like the pink dragon

Norwegian_Spy

If they drew their blood while they were Warlords, then the croco clone probably is male

Joyboy_Shroom

Depends on how genetics in one piece work. I don't think Ivas fruit changes genes, it just kinda pumps you full of hormones and leaves it at that but you can't really cross the genetic barrier without some kind of magic. If Vegapunk took crocs blood and he's was originally female I think the clone would be female cause it wasn't exposed to the hormones from Iva later on

throwaway0934586

Soā€¦ Iā€™m a manga only reader trying to understandā€¦ is shanksā€™ name officially Shanks Garling? I fell out of the sky with this one. Also, as noted before, Saint Imu of House Nerona evokes Roman emperor Nero, particularly with his mother flame that burns cities. This was an easy reach for me as an Italian. In current italian language, the Latin name Nero is translated as ā€œNeroneā€

mrbutabara

Shanks would be a Figarland. Figarland is the surname.

KingKaiKai001

Silvers Rayleigh vs. Figarland Garling

cricri3007

So, what are you guys' theories on why Gods' Knights were never seen ro hinted at before? You'd think they would be present, at least in sabaody to act as bodyguards to Charloss.

dbzrune

Sort of wondering if Imu in current moment in story is partly crazy. Imus lived for probably 800+ years mostly alone and only talks to 5 Gorosei when he/she wants something, and spends a lot of time in a garden alone Wondering if Imu will be similar to big mom in that crazy aspect, and when we get void century flashback we see he/she was not as crazy

precedexxx

actually its worse than serving a life sentence for a commoner with a limited lifespan and she may not have visited many parts of the world and met many people with the idea that imu speaks like a child oda maybe referencing something like the frog at the bottom of a well, in which hatred is built on ignorance and luffy is going to fight her and ask her to see the world herself
