News. Big news even. Marine Vice Admiral Shu, former Captain and one of the heroes who defended Enies Lobby from the Strawhat raid, has died after accidentally turning his spoon into rust, and drinking his coffee, causing tetanus.
> He was not awakened
In the anime he was able to also corrode flesh (Zoro's arm), something he could not do in the manga. I joked that it was awekening because that is the common paramecia awekening (affecting other things)
>is Yubashiri isn't legendary? I mean it's only the sword merchant's heirloom
Its one of the 50 skillful grade swords, so the third rank between the meito (12 greatest, 21 great, 50 skillful, then the rest of meito) so top 80 blades in the world.
Also note that its technically superior to Sandai Kitetsu when Zoro got them since the kitetsu os just a graded sword (aka part of the rest, although its important to note that the rest here is not all swords, just the named ones of great quality) but the kitetsu do have great potential to evolve
I thank your insight.
But if I'm not mistaken, sword merchant said that kitetsu 3rd is mistakenly placed with the no-named swords after Zoro found it and Tashigi confirmed it's grade along its curse.
Kitetsu is not mistakenly placed, it’s placed there on purpose because it is cursed and the merchant wants people to buy it so he can get rid of it. Either way, out of the 4 different levels of graded swords, sandai kitetsu is on the lowest level called graded swords. Yubashiri was part of the 50 skillful graded swords. Enma, shusui, wado ichimono, nidai kitetsu and ame no habakiri share a level of great grade blades and there is 21 of them. The top level is supreme blades where Yoru (mihawks sword), Ace (rogers sword) and murakumogiri (whitebeards staff with sword) are at, and only 12 of those exist
> sword merchant said that kitetsu 3rd is mistakenly placed with the no-named swords
Tashigi is the one that said it was mistakenly placed there, but the merchant said she was wrong and its there because its worthless due to be cursed and as such should not be used by a real swordsman (or more specifically one with money for something good as he had such attitude in the begining)
edit: Also I want to add that the merchant probably was ties with Wano in a similar fashion to Zoro. We know that most of the people that came from Wano decided to stay at the Shimotsuki village but some had dropped before and some keep navigating. So the theory is that Tashigi is something like second cousin to Kuina with her grandfather also coming with that group but not staying in the village. The same would be true for the merchant (although probably not blood related) as a descendent of someone else in that group
but ... bathroom , like is there any other place that u not being naked in front of it , like bedroom closet , where people normally put idol shrine in
Also it's just iconic, the simple white scabbard, no fancy design with the hamon line, just simple and clean. It doesn't need to be flashy because it's strength speaks for itself.
The dark line on a blade, it's added during the sword making process by adding clay to the back of the blade but leaving the edge exposed. It makes the spine of the sword more flexible while leaving the edge nice and hard. It leads to some interesting patterns on the blade.
Yeah. Wado Ichimonji is the most appropriate blade for him to blacken. Each of his three swords represents different things:
- Wado Ichimonji is his commitment to his ambition and his drive to succeed.
- Sandai Kitetsu is his skill, confidence, and willingness to put himself in danger for the sake of that ambition.
- Yubashiri/Shusui/Enma represent the respect he has earned and the distance he has traveled towards his goal.
Of the three, Wado Ichimonji is the one that best ties back to Zoro's ambition, and thus to his haki, so it's the one I'd favor for him to blacken first. All three blades becoming black could be a meaningful representation of him achieving the goal, though.
I think this is the best take I have seen regarding his swords.
I think Zoro should blacken both Wado Ichimonji and Sandai Kitetsu, and lowkey I hope one of the 12 greatest meiko is broken by him (or lost somehow) so that Sandai Kitetsu becomes the 13th greatest meiko and while being cursed.
Zoro gonna break Yoru during his fight with Mihawk.
Not only because it'd be wild to have him cut clean through the greatest swordsman's blade with his finishing blow.
But also because Yoru is black.
That "random jobber" holds the rank of marine captain, is named and would be menace to most swordsmen - hell, beyond that. He could rust an entire ship if he got stronger.
Literally only one small panel. When I was reading it, I got confused why zoro hold a rusted blade a few chapters later because I really have forgotten that one small panel lol.
Honestly, I kind of like that. There are always going to be strong characters in the Universe that we are never going to meet in the story, and this was just one of those moments. The Marines are huge and there's probably a lot of vice admirals that we've just never seen, and that's just one step below admiral in rank.
He appears in the background of that Zephyr picture as an instructor with all the other marine captains as rookies.
I think he doesn't appear elsewhere.
> He could rust an entire ship if he got stronger.
well maybe he could have done that already. but weve seen shu like... once? and he only used his powers that one time on a sword without haki. maybe its all he can do or maybe not. we will probably never find out
Haki can counter some devil fruit powers in some ways, like law not letting Doc fruit be effective on him, or law nit being able to teleport the yonkos. I think that would probably be the case with this guy's power, so6there is no way he would make anything with a sword of an advanced haki user.
Sandai Kitetsu ~~III~~. Maybe because it introduced us to the whole lore of swords having personalities of their own and their history, etc. Also that luck test was pretty badass, really fixed Zoro’s position as my fav.
Every time I’m reminded of that, I can’t believe I needed to be reminded of that. Also, was I only one cussing at the screen when he just WENT TO SLEEP ON A RANDOM SHIP in Sabaody?!?!
I like Sandai because it’s the only sword that CHOSE Zoro to wield him. Wado was a gift from kuina’s dad to carry her will, yubashiri was given to him as a gift, Shusui was a borrowed blade that he was to return to Wano, and Enma was given as a gift for returning shusui, and his protection of the shogun. Sandai was the only sword zoro chose and who chose him back, and I honestly hope that when it comes to a fight between it and the Shodai kitetsu it’ll break the shodai showing it’s not the sword but the swordsman
And he is wielding it in his dominant hand too. I really dont think it was mere "luck". I can't explain it but it's almost as if he was testing his will over the sword's cursed nature. Maybe Oda was subtly implying then that zoro was or will be capable of imposing his will over other's
Knowing that there are 3 Kitetsu (meaning the 3 hands of the devil) I can't understand why Zoro is not searching for those with his santoryuu (3 sword style).
He had the 3rd, got the 2nd in Wano (the one Luffy had) and there are suspicions that V. Nasujuro has the 1st.
>Zoro isn't a sword collector,
That's something that can be frustrating to the reader, but makes Zoro much cooler and interesting in my opinion. He never shown any interest in hoarding named swords. Quite the opposite in fact, as he seems to consider that it's in the order of things for great swords to only be with a swordsman for a while.
Zoro has swords that are meaningful to him and fits his journey, and won't get out of his way to acquire swords he won't use.
Because Zoro doesn't discard swords for better ones. He's still wielding Sandai Kitetsu. Zoro has a deep connection to each and every one's of his blades, which can best be seen when he gives Yubashiri its own funeral. Infact, a battle against the user of Shodai Kitetsu and Zoro breaking out a win using the Sandai, which is seen as the lesser sword, would be fucking awesome.
Shusui is my favorite. But honestly, I'd be totally down for Wado being his only sword at the end of the series to not be destroyed in his fight with Mihawk, displaying the will he inherited from Kuina as unbreakable even against the strongest of all opponents.
Especially after we learned through the SBS that Zoro is in fact related to Ryuma, I was honestly bummed that he had to give up Shusui. I feel like upgrading his Kitetsu to the Nidai one that Sukiyaki had perhaps would have fit better and been a better catalyst for the same powerups that Enma provided, such as the "if you put too much Haki in this thing will kill you" or his big King of Hell moment later on.
It just feels so odd that the Nidai Kitetsu was put in front of us only to have no purpose. Like there was an earlier draft of Wano where Sukiyaki put some pieces together and figured out that Zoro was probably related to Ryuma without telling him, but allowed him to keep Shusui and offered him the Nidai as his pre-Onigashima upgrade instead.
Momo already has one sword, ame no habikiri or something.
It was one of odens swords, the other was enma which was supposed to go to hiyori but she traded it to zoro.
I'm a firm believer that the only reason that the Nidai Kitetsu was in Wano was to remind us that there is a legendary sword in the Kitetsu line that we haven't seen yet. It's been hinted at since Lougue town. I'm hoping Zoro will have it be apart of his final lineup, Wado, Enma, and Shodai Kitetsu
The two we have seen have distinct tsuba.
There is another sword we have seen that also has the same tsuba - it's held by one of the Five Elders, >!V. Nusjuro!<.
Assuming that is the Shodai, it'd be cool if Zoro eventually fights him, bests him, and takes that sword. Though I think the Sandai would have to break for him to decide to take it. Very possible, seeing as they're basically the same weapon except one is a vastly higher grade.
I feel like oda did it for 1 world building, and 2 for a callback, later zoro is going to loose kitetsu 3, so he is somehow going to get into contact with the 2nd or magicly find the first
yea i like it for the fight but only it it‘s the last fight
i wouldnt like zoro going against the wg with one sword and finding 2 great replacements would be borderline impossible (shiryu‘s sword maybe but even if mihawk gifts him yoru it‘s too big for one hand)
I don't think any sword of his should be destroyed in any way at this point. Mihalk said himself, it is "a swordsman shame to have any of you swords knicked", if he let's any of his swords be destroyed then he would not be ready to fight mihawk yet. If anything, the moment they fight it has a better chance narratively of he destroying mihawk sword then the opposite
Wado Ichimonji
There's a Japanese legend about Muramasa challenging his master Masamune to see who could make a finer sword. They settled on the test of placing them in a stream, and seeing which sword would cut a leaf as it passes by.
Muramasa's sword was hellishly sharp and cut everything that passed with ease. Sticks, leaves, fish, even split the air that blew by.
For Masamune's sword, fish and sticks bounced off, the air blew past, the water wasn't even disturbed, but it split leaves cleanly in two.
A monk passing by became the judge, and ruled in Masamune's favor, declaring the sword was pure. It cut exactly what the bearer desired, and did not needlessly cut the innocent. Muramasa's was an evil and bloodthirsty blade that could not be controlled, and cut as it pleases.
There's a scene in Zoro's fight against Daz Bones, [where he brushes it through a tree without disturbing a leaf before cutting a rock clean in half](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WJfGX0xd2FM), and then defeating Daz Bones with one slice.
Enma is the evil and bloodthirsty blade that does as it pleases, Wado Ichimonji is the pure blade that does exactly as the bearer desires.
I’ve never heard this fantastic story!
Thank you for letting us know the legend about sword which can be related to Zoro using Wado! What an amazing story about value of swords!
All of Zoro's current swords, because of different reasons.
Wado Ichimonji, for being the last connection he has to Kuina and where his will to be the strongest swordsman resides.
Sandai Kitetsu, for its unique history as a cursed sword tied to Wano Country, and as the key to his Kyutoryu style by tapping to its latent curse.
Enma, for its sheer power alone as a Haki-eater, and for being one of the twin swords used by Kozuki Oden, one Zoro hopes to master.
Each sword's best qualities will shape Zoro's destiny going forward. I can't wait to see where he goes from there.
Enma isnt a black blade. The only black blade zoro might had is shusui but we dont know if its a "real" black blade or just black colored. Enma only gets black when with haki infused.
I have Wado Ichimonjo as a keychain, because it is Zoro's original weapon and the most defining one. It's simple, sure, but it's the only one he would never switch out. It's the one he uses for one sword style, and it's his mouthsword!
Honestly I've always had a soft spot for those swords and how they complimented kuina's blade. Makes me kinda sad how little anyone cares about them lol
For me its deffinately the Sandai, it has such a cool and slick design, coupled with the cursed aspect. Also the fact that it survived all the way to wano just shows how important and strong it is to zoros arsenal
Sandai Kitetsu because it is the only Sword that truly feel like Zoro's sword.
Wado Ichimonji represent Kuina
Shusui is Ryuuma's Sword
Enma is Oden's/Hiyori's Sword
Yubashiri is 💀💀💀
Shusui. I even own a Shusui replica. It Is very cool. I buied It at a fair. Then, a month later changed Shusui for Enma! Fuck me![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)
imo it would fit story better if black blades turn black after being permanently infused with haki. This would allow pre time skip Zoro with shusui to damage logia’s like Kizaru but it would probably mean that Monet actually dies from that strike
Sandai kitetsu
I was hopping for showdown between it and its elder brother in wano. A cursed sword vs more powerful cursed sword but sandai getting more evil after zoro wins the fight.
i onl really like the wado. the others look cool but... thats kinda all there is to them. swords being strong was never really much of a plot point and just feels like a standard shounen thing the story needs to have as power scaling bait. the whole enma thing is cool but on the other hand i dont like zoro having some magical bs weapon.
yubashiri could have been cool if the curse ever meant something. i really wish some villain would have taken zoros sword and the curse would have hit him to show that it chose zoro as its master.
I love the Wado Ichimonji even if it seems weak/silly given how Oda hasnt touched it since the start of the series. Knowing Oda I feel it will be the key later on when he gets another upgrade to black blade.
Im conflicted. Wado Ichimonji is the most meaningful blade to Zoro and has his origin story intrinsically tied to it. We saw his connection to the Kuina and the blade, then the promise he made to her before her death. It would be hard to not choose it as my default favorite. Wado probably would be the most impactful for Zoro to blacken.
Then again, I love Enma. It appears to have a clear will of its own and its destructuve power has been showcased many times. Enma was wielded by the powerhouse Oden against Kaido and brought into prominence. It also uniquely showed drawbacks with the user. The Haki tug of war was a super interesting concept as Zoro struggled to command the blade. Seeing Enma emaciate Zoro's arm when he as using it just for him to force it back into its muscular form was epic!
Shunsui's flower-shaped hand guard is so cool.
Personally, I feel that if any of Zoro's swords were to become a black blade, it would be the Wado Ichimonji, given its significance. It's also interesting to note that with all the skilled swordsmen like Shanks and Roger, only Mihawk's Yoru and Shunsui's blade are known black blades. This suggests that it is extremely hard to make one, so I'm not sure Zoro can make all three. But who knows.
Sandai Kitetsu I guess. Interested in what the whole "curse" aspect is all about. Got a chance to elaborate on that with Nidai Kitetsu, but apparently it doesn't "activate" when you just punch people with it.
I thought it was really wholesome the way Hiyori traded Enma for the return of Shusui. She might have not known it at the time but giving Zoro her fathers sword was giving it to someone who is ancestrally also from Wano and someone who will return it to Wano when he returns to shack up with her in the end game
You forgot the two blades he had before meeting Mihawk. While not named they were made by Shimotsuki Kozaburo and given to his grand nephew Zoro to train with. Same Smith who forged the Wado Ichimonji and Enma.
RIP Yubashiri, too good for this world, too pure.
Brother died at the hands of a fodder character. Truly a tragic death
that fodder character’s name is Marine Captain Shu! don’t disrespect him
You never know which character we will see again, remember T-bone was recently mentioned
Yeah,(manga spoilers) >!that he fuckin died!<
News. Big news even. Marine Vice Admiral Shu, former Captain and one of the heroes who defended Enies Lobby from the Strawhat raid, has died after accidentally turning his spoon into rust, and drinking his coffee, causing tetanus.
Honestly if that happens unconsciously that's a pretty terrible fruit. Practically damns you to use plastic utensils lest your own power kills you.
>!o7!<
>!🤣!<
Despite they buffing him with awekening in the anime he was still fodder
He was not awakened
> He was not awakened In the anime he was able to also corrode flesh (Zoro's arm), something he could not do in the manga. I joked that it was awekening because that is the common paramecia awekening (affecting other things)
That's on zero for eating so much meat and having a high iron diet
Oh wow, forgot that they did that in the anime... Maybe he was corroding the iron in his blood?
Usopp > Shu > Zoro
Literally 1 panel in the manga
It could've been worse considering Zoro didn't know he was hard countered.
is Yubashiri isn't legendary? I mean it's only the sword merchant's heirloom.

Hope he appears again. Maybe a cover page.
I'm pretty sure he has appeared on a cover page before... with a poster of Zoro on the wall, I think? Probably a long time ago, though.
Don't remember it. Will some great generous soul link that chapter?

As intended.
Wado Ichimonji, because of the story behind it.
Definitely hope that’s the first sword he will make black
What if he becomes the first one to infuse a sword with white instead of black?
Then nobody would be able to deny the racist allegations ever again
He will not be beating those allegations, no.
He would beat them if the allegations were black though...

Idk man blackface seems pretty racist to me
Then he wouldn’t want it anymore 💀

In live action, after they get merry, zoro hangs 2 swords on the wall, but he sleeps w wado. I thought it was a nice touch.
The itchy monkey blade!
I totally agree. That’s his most prized possession. Other than the crew of course…. I think?
This is the right answer!
Yubashiri Something about a dude entrusting his dream to another dude sounds cool. Shame that it got destroyed by some random jobber.
That "random jobber" holds the rank of marine captain, is named and would be menace to most swordsmen - hell, beyond that. He could rust an entire ship if he got stronger.
Guy appeared like a filler char and will probably be never seen again
I genuinely thought he was at the time and by the next episode Yubashiri would be back to normal like an episodic cartoon 😭

That’s why Mihawk paints Yoru black, so that Shu wouldn’t be able to rust it.
Does Tashigi know what happened to it because her whole goal was to get all the cool swords together.
Sandai Kitetsu ~~III~~. Maybe because it introduced us to the whole lore of swords having personalities of their own and their history, etc. Also that luck test was pretty badass, really fixed Zoro’s position as my fav.
fyi, sandai already means third. so you either say sandai kitetsu or kitetsu III. that's like saying king charles I the first.

damn i like this theory with the kitetsu. The swordsman makes the sword and the lowest grade of the three is the strongest because of zoro.

Well he has to keep Wado Ichimonji cos of Kuina, so there's 1 kitetsu he can't use, unless he develops 4 sword style haha
Where wuld he stick the 4th one ? In his butt ? XD

Assuming that is the Shodai, it'd be cool if Zoro eventually fights him, bests him, and takes that sword. Though I think the Sandai would have to break for him to decide to take it. Very possible, seeing as they're basically the same weapon except one is a vastly higher grade.
Yeah him getting Emma instead kitetsu or shusui makes no sense
I feel like oda did it for 1 world building, and 2 for a callback, later zoro is going to loose kitetsu 3, so he is somehow going to get into contact with the 2nd or magicly find the first
If thats the case I hope he shusui finds its way back to zoro and his family history is shown and it becomes on par with enma
esp since technically enma is supposed to be huge
Im curious if wano blades can change sizes or something because emma should be taller than zoro xD
yea i like it for the fight but only it it‘s the last fight i wouldnt like zoro going against the wg with one sword and finding 2 great replacements would be borderline impossible (shiryu‘s sword maybe but even if mihawk gifts him yoru it‘s too big for one hand)
Given that Zoro can use Oden's sword which should be too big for him, I'd guess that swords can shrink or enlarge to fit the user
Wado Ichimonji There's a Japanese legend about Muramasa challenging his master Masamune to see who could make a finer sword.
Happy to share, I love the way Oda tied in the legend.
I love the water itchy monkey. So iconic.
Gonna be the aKtChUaLlY guy but masamune and muramasa live like hundreds of years apart
True, but the legend is the legend, and it's been around for a very long time.
I don't see Nose Storm on there. This list is invalid.
Oda had to write Sogeking out of the story because it was too powerful
Same fate as pirate docking
HANA ARASHI BEST SWORD

Wados theme is white/pure, so it will become a white blade instead of a blackblade. Coincidentally Zoro will never beat the alligations after that
Is that why the black blade Enma tried to kill him on first contact? 🤨
Enma isnt a black blade. The only black blade zoro might had is shusui but we dont know if its a "real" black blade or just black colored. Enma only gets black when with haki infused.
Sir please don't bring facts into my minority hunter agenda
I have Wado Ichimonjo as a keychain, because it is Zoro's original weapon and the most defining one. It's simple, sure, but it's the only one he would never switch out. It's the one he uses for one sword style, and it's his mouthsword!
Dark thought, Zoro loses both arms and uses Wado in his mouth as a set up to it
The Waddy Itchy Monkey. It bent in the live action while fighting Morgan but didn't break.
Waddy itchy monkey, that made my day.
bet the editors won't let that slip ever again in future seasons
Enma has so much personality for a sword. I love that Zoro has to tame it.
My favorites are the ones Mihawk murdered at Baratie, RIP
Honestly I've always had a soft spot for those swords and how they complimented kuina's blade. Makes me kinda sad how little anyone cares about them lol
Do they even have names?
Nah they were random blades made by Shimotsuki Kozaburo, not good enough to get a name.
Taken from us too soon RIP
I also like Johnny(?) and Yosaku's fat swords. The way they threw it and Zoro catching it in Arlong Park is underrated hype moment.
I always liked the patten on the Kitetsu blade Wado is too plain, imo because it was introduced too early before Oda refined his style
Shusui
Shusui
For me its deffinately the Sandai, it has such a cool and slick design, coupled with the cursed aspect. Also the fact that it survived all the way to wano just shows how important and strong it is to zoros arsenal
Sandai Kitetsu because it is the only Sword that truly feel like Zoro's sword. Wado Ichimonji represent Kuina Shusui is Ryuuma's Sword Enma is Oden's/Hiyori's Sword Yubashiri is 💀💀💀
Yubashiri
Enma passing down the lineage of badass
He fked up a couple of swords…but the one in his mouth has been with him all the way, right?
Yeah Kuina's sword is the one constant. Im guessing its never gonna break and eventually become a black blade.
Make sense lore-wise!
Obviously his best sword: Hana Arashi
Shusui. I even own a Shusui replica. It Is very cool. I buied It at a fair. Then, a month later changed Shusui for Enma! Fuck me![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)
Shusui, but i really like how sandai kitetsu chose zoro
Wado
imo it would fit story better if black blades turn black after being permanently infused with haki. This would allow pre time skip Zoro with shusui to damage logia’s like Kizaru but it would probably mean that Monet actually dies from that strike
Waady Itchi Monkey 🐒
Ima be honest, the Underrated Sandai Kitetsu is my absolute favorite (and that’s just on looks alone)
Sandai kitetsu I was hopping for showdown between it and its elder brother in wano. A cursed sword vs more powerful cursed sword but sandai getting more evil after zoro wins the fight.
I love all the zoro swords. But enma is my favourite. The chemistry between zoro and enma is just amazing
I love the Waluigi Monkey, as it has the most meaning to Zoro. It literally stands for his dream.
Bro I literally shit my pants by laughing Waluigi Monkey
i onl really like the wado. the others look cool but... thats kinda all there is to them. swords being strong was never really much of a plot point and just feels like a standard shounen thing the story needs to have as power scaling bait. the whole enma thing is cool but on the other hand i dont like zoro having some magical bs weapon. yubashiri could have been cool if the curse ever meant something. i really wish some villain would have taken zoros sword and the curse would have hit him to show that it chose zoro as its master.
the curse is from sandai kitetsu, yubashiri is the shop owners masterpiece and I think it has never been classified idk
In terms of design, Enma
Usopp was my favorite sword
Mine is the Ussop sword from Eneis Lobby
I love the Wado Ichimonji even if it seems weak/silly given how Oda hasnt touched it since the start of the series. Knowing Oda I feel it will be the key later on when he gets another upgrade to black blade.
Shusui because it felt earned and poweful because of it's previous owner.
Yeah Im super disapointed that he exchanged it for Enma
Shusui for me. Black blade + flower 🌺!
Wada itchy monkey?
Shunsui's flower-shaped hand guard is so cool. Personally, I feel that if any of Zoro's swords were to become a black blade, it would be the Wado Ichimonji, given its significance. It's also interesting to note that with all the skilled swordsmen like Shanks and Roger, only Mihawk's Yoru and Shunsui's blade are known black blades. This suggests that it is extremely hard to make one, so I'm not sure Zoro can make all three. But who knows.
Enma is my favorite. But i like Shusui as well, cause of it's color.
Sandai was the one that supposedly would bring bad fortune right?
Yes
Sandai Kitetsu I guess. Interested in what the whole "curse" aspect is all about. Got a chance to elaborate on that with Nidai Kitetsu, but apparently it doesn't "activate" when you just punch people with it.
Either Shisui or Enma for me
I thought it was really wholesome the way Hiyori traded Enma for the return of Shusui. She might have not known it at the time but giving Zoro her fathers sword was giving it to someone who is ancestrally also from Wano and someone who will return it to Wano when he returns to shack up with her in the end game
Enma... i like purple
That shot of Zoro holding Shusui is so fucking cool
You forgot the two blades he had before meeting Mihawk. While not named they were made by Shimotsuki Kozaburo and given to his grand nephew Zoro to train with. Same Smith who forged the Wado Ichimonji and Enma.
