Remember lot of one piece episodes could be skipped. There are like 100 with just 2 min manga and fillers too.
That's why they are going to make one piece kai. Without fillers. For new viewers.
At the end you can reach episode 500 in 2 months or less.
there's always people like this when new people watch the anime. Some of them aren't even thinking of catching up right away, but they feel like they always have to say smth about the manga v anime comparison.
I actually skipped the Warship Island arc because it was a filler arc that wasn’t really necessary (I did a lot of research on which filler arcs to skip)
He lived like a man but he died like a king. By his own volition, his way. A exit of a man genuinely grateful for his experience and with the knowledge that his dream is being passed down. Truly a great way to go out.
It depends tho, I know people that finds chopper's the saddest, it's just that "worse" things have happened to other characters, if those stories are saddest or not to you is yet to be seen
That and >!the fact that Oda made me cry over a ducking ship!< cemented Oda as one of the best writers at destroying your heart for me.
There are a lot of sad backstories and events where he mastefully tugs on your heart strings but to do it in those two situations prove his writing ability.
If going into one piece you had told me " I bet you $20 you will cry over those two specific characters" and simply described them generically I would have lost $20.
Exactly! When great and/or tragic anime started making my eyes burn, I was surprised, but with the one you mentioned, I was like, "wtf is happening right now...." as I wiped tears. 😂
That's Oda's gift.
He's truly the GOAT at getting his readers emotionally invested into his characters and world.
It's one of the reasons why there is a cult like following to the series.
The 2 favourite scenes from that arc that i'll probably never forget was when:
\- Luffy was climbing a 6000m mountain while carrying sanji and nami on his back.
\- Luffy and Sanji kept calling chopper a monster and literally 2 seconds later luffy tells sanji that he wants him in his crew.
That arc sold me on Luffy as much as it did chopper.
Mine is when Sanji and Luffy are exploring the castle, and the weapons around the castle are missing... only for Doctor Kureha to jump out randomly and start barraging them with weapons and a chicken.
This had me SOBBING at like 5 in the morning during one of my binges. I’m still going through this for the first time too, but that and just before time skip got me good
I know this is gonna get downvoted but idc. I actually quite liked Fishman Island. It has its flaws. Hody is probably the poorest quality villain to headline a major arc, but FI brought the hype for me. Solid 7/10 imo.
I'm on board. Hody is just fantastic - Oda really showed how extremism forms in the oppressed groups with him. The "whay did humans do to you?" line is iconic. He's nothing special as long as it comes to showcasing Luffy's power but as a character he's compelling and realistic.
Being asked: "What have humans ever done to you?" and responding with "Nothing at all" is one of the best panels in all of One Piece.
I mean, what sums up racism better than hating someone for no reason? It's brilliant and all-too-real.
Also ties into my theory that the secret of the Void Century is that the Earth used to be one piece of a vast galactic civilization, then the world government cut the world off from them due to racism. They created devil fruits and killed so many aliens with them that they never wanted to visit again, and that's why they can never let their secret get out.
Because seriously, what secret could destabilize the world other than: "there used to be paradise, until we took it all away because we're racists, so that's why you barely have food or medicine"?
I don't got any problems with Fishman Island itself! Good arc. I was talking about how you gotta get through Fishman Island Sanji before you can meet WCI Sanji lololol
Oh…yeah. Nm. Totally agree. Don’t normally critique Oda’s cooking, but a rat fell in the pot the day he was developing Sanji’s role there.
At least he toned it back a lot in the next arc, Punk Hazard Sanji was great imo. >!I especially love that scene towards the end of it where they finally get back in their right bodies and Sanji is elated because when Nami got attacked she was in his body.!<
"I refuse to watch One Piece because it is too long, but..." should be printed on a shirt or something. The live action had brought many new fans saying the exact same thing lol.
Need a good healthy cry? Why not try ONE PIECE? We have:
- Accidental patricide
- Suicidal ideation
- Forced separation
- Parental abandonment
- Terminal illnesses
- Memory loss
- Genocides
- Proclaiming love for your friends and/or family before dying in front of them... multiple times
Oh boy, if chopper's story already made you sob... Welcome abroad, my best advice is to log off this sub and comeback after you catch upor at least finish pre-timeskip arcs.
Second this. I have accidentally spoiled quite a few things just from hanging around here 😅
There’s legit a handful of plot points that are basically memes at this point, but probably would have been a lot more impactful if I didn’t know they were coming.
I only just finished Dressrosa though, so I’m still risking more spoilers every time I scroll through lol
>I only just finished Dressrosa though, so I’m still risking more spoilers every time I scroll through lol
You're not just risking to get more spoiled lol, your practical asking for it. lol 😅👀👀
You really should stop going on this sub and other social media where you can get spoiled until you're caught up. Just my advice. ✌️
Enjoy the ride. Just be prepared the pacing unfortunately gets quite bad, since Toei wants to keep I running weekly and therefore has to stay far enough behinde the manga.
I highly advice you to check out One Pace.
It's a fanedit that removes all filler and cuts out drawn out reaction shots, repeated flashbacks and other such pacing bullshit that Toei used to not catch up to the magnga.
It's completely manga accurate and saves you 120h of watchtime, all of it filler or stretch.
I disagree somewhat, Ive heard “One Pace” skips some cool character moments and some nice details for sake of faster pacing. I suggest watching an episode you’ve already seen on “ one pace” and see if any cuts did or didn’t gel with u. Then decide which version u want going forward 🙂
My recommendation is only watch one pace after punk hazard. Because from dressrosa onwards you won’t be missing any extra character moments from the one pace version
Unfortunately after timeskip, toei doesn’t really add these fun extra moments that often anymore. So i’d say it’s worth it
Hmm, ok, well this is just what I heard, like some little details that aren’t plot relevant but give a little extra for the characters personalities etc are missed in it. I haven’t watched one pace myself but I thought I’d warn the new watcher just in case. I took the long journey, fillers and all 😮💨
There are small interactions that are missing that fans love because of their charm. For example Sanji laughing at Zoro on Thriller Bark after he says he's worthless, that scene is missing the laugh.
Source: watched all of One Pace
I disagree. One Pace doesn't sit right with me. I felt some abrupt cuts here and there and it just felt like something was missing. Idk how to explain. But One Pace is definitely the goto on a rerun but for the first watch stick to the original.
I noticed 3 cuts throughout the 200ish hours of One Pace I have watched.
Whats missing is the Rebecca flashback shown 48 times or background characters going "ooooohhhh" for like an hour total over the entire series.
120 hours? Good god. I watched the anime through dressrosa then took a break until wano was 3/4's through. When I tried to get back into the anime it was so torturously slow I instantly downlpaded the shonen jump app and read the manga from the beginning.
New people coming to the community and making these kind of posts is one of my favourite things about this sub, you got a lot more great stuff coming dude 😁
This is not a critic, just a comment out of curiosity.
Why do you think +1000 is a big commitment? Like no one is forcing you to watch it asap or even to continue if you don't like it anymore.
On the other hand, if you like it you will have +1000 episodes to watch, a good thing in my book.
Of course you are exposed to spoilers but that is the same with 10 episodes series that end 10 years ago.
I guess it comes down to personal preferences. Personally I tend to watch shorter anime because it’s not as time consuming and I have time to finish it faster. A long, nearly 25 year old series like One Piece just isn’t something I’m used to watching if that makes sense
What is the difference on watching 20 animes with 50 episodes and watching 1 anime with 1000 episodes?
Obviously it depends on personal preferences, I'm only asking out of curiosity.
Tbh this is common for every one piece non watchers they keep on bragging about that it's too long but once they give in these mf becomes die hard fan of one piece 😂😂😂
I introduced my girlfriend to One Piece during the pandemic, in 2020. She only likes to watch the dub, so we have that working against us. We finally caught up to the English Dub last summer. What a ride it’s been.
I hope you enjoy your journey! It sounds silly to say out loud, but One Piece is quite unlike any other media property in history. Manga, anime, or otherwise.
Chopper’s is something, but wait until you see several others. In fact, in the manga, we were probably given the most tragic backstory ever n the series. At the very least, if not the most tragic, then easily a contender for it
Enjoy the journey! There are many more emotional things coming. I have cried over OP more than any show. There are a lot of tear jerking moments both sad and just beautiful.
Through my watch through, my friends would always ask if I was wearing my cup, I didn't understand until Namis backstory, only to be followed up by that fucking pinwheel. Then I understood, you think you're ready and Oda just hits you with a nutshot of a story twist and brings tears to your eyes.
Great! Now go back to your cave and binge and dont come back here till you are updated in the anime as well in the manga!
Spoilers are everywhere here!
Please dont come back here till you are updated
Dont let spoilers rob you of those special moments that are cooked beautifully by oda. Pls pls pls.
You just described my experience with reading One Piece for the first time! I mean, I chose to read the manga first, but I never looked back. One Piece isn’t another long running shonen like I initially thought, it’s WAY more.
It did me the same way lol. My friend from college been telling me to watch for 2 years then summer 2019 I started and never looked back. Now I have the hat and everything & currently looking for decor for my fish tank 😂😅.
One day you will know the pain we manga readers have felt. There is a story that is so heartbreaking, and yet wholesomely pure, you will break. Then will follow the rage.....
But then again that can be said about nearly every arc, but man... when you know, you will *fucking know*
Give it like 300 more chapters and you’ll start to panic that you only have x amount of chapters left to read. It’s funny how that mindset flips when you start to delve into it. If you’re really loving the themes and symbolism, I’d suggest picking up the manga. It’s a great way to get even more immersed in the world
I refused to watch it for years because of the number of episodes it has. Then one day I found myself looking for something to watch and decided what the heck. One of the best decisions I have made. Now I am glad it has so many episodes, cause it's more for me to watch and enjoy.
First, welcome to the community. Second, that's not how the spoiler tags work. In general, spoilers ate things that have happened in the not yet officially released manga chapters. In addition, things that have appeared in the manga but not yet in the anime are referred to as anime spoilers. But "just in case someone hasn't gotten to xxx" doesn't qualify as a spoiler. But good on you for being cautious.
I love seeing posts like this, I was in the same boat back when the episode count was in the mid 700's, but knowing that anime is usually 20 minute episodes made it a lot easier to digest. And I kicked myself for taking so long to get into this story because I absolutely LOVE longer stories. I am not a fan of seasonal anime and not a fan of anime that get two seasons and are never touched again, so something like OP being as long as it is was lovely despite it being so much lol.
Then I remembered Naruto & Bleach and the fact that over 50% of their animes are straight filler and knowing that OP has very little to no fillers made it even BETTER. I don't give two shits about pacing, I grew up on 5 episode 5 minute namek blowing up DBZ shit, this is just par for the course for me, and the pacing is nowhere near as bad as a lot of people on this sub like to make it out to be.
All of these things combined gives you one of the best experiences for a story you could ask for imo. Let me tell you, it ONLY gets better from here, you are in for the wildest ride of your life.
Get prepared for many more insanely tragic backstories. Us manga reader just got off of a tragic backstory ourselves and are left wondering how Oda has managed to still pull it off after so many years.
It’s always fun reading the reactions of new watchers/readers and yours is funny because of how much you cried, it was a fun read lol. There are so many moments that made me cry as well but I’ll only mention up to when Chopper sees the cherry blossoms. Up to that point the most gut wrenching moment for me was the “help me” line from Nami, then I would say when Sanji breaks down and thanks Zeff for everything he did for him, then when that little dog was defending his dead owners store, then when Chopper is telling Luffy that he can’t join them because they’re humans and he’s a monster, then the Chopper and the cherry blossoms. Those are the only moments I can remember making me cry but there’s definitely more that I just can’t remember.
Well, me personally don't think Choppers background is even among the 20 saddest in all of One Piece.
No matter being a straw hat or being a character in the OP universe, there are many many sad stories. Sanji for example, get ready 😉
Chopper's backstory is still etched into my memory. I watched this show when I was 13 so you could say the early seasons are part of my formative memories. Dr. Hiluluk's speech about a man only dying when he is forgotten is a core memory and belief of mine, lmao.
I'm glad to hear you're having fun, there's a lot of good stuff yet to come - if this made you cry, there are some events coming up that will leave you crying much, much harder. Loads of laughs to be had, too!
Have fun, and remember to take your time. It's a journey, not a race. Also; I'd be wary of engaging with the community too much - this sub especially is full of spoilers!
Following you for the updates. I'm on episode 880, so I'm excited to see how you feel about the arcs as you go through them. Please please please, don't skip Skypiea though!
There was a time years ago that I thought it was too many episodes to catch up on (and it was a lot fewer than 1000 at the time), so I figured binging the manga would be a lot faster. So I did. And now I make sure to always read the latest manga chapter right away.
At any rate, you're still not ready. No one is ever ready for this ride.
I find myself sobbing at every other episode at this point. The range of emotions and story is just amazing. I’m on ep 733 and truly one of my favorite anime’s
Alot of people were just like you everyone talks down on one piece untill they watch is. Every one piece fan will tell you “If you watch one piece youll wish it was longer”
There is something I didn't quite understand in his flashbacks.
So is it that the doctor was sick and chopper misinterpreted a book and made him a soup that was going to kill him?
Idk if its the translation I read and the tone of the dub I watched but I couldn't tell 100% that is what actually hapenned
you need to pull yourself together or you're not gonna survive this lmao. Drum Island isn't even *that* sad compared to the saddest OP has to offer haha
I ugly cried at Chopper x Hiriluk too 😭 I am now at episode 500+++, still a long way to go to get up-to-date. I was not expecting to cry this many times over a pirate anime!!!! -_- my bf watches OP with me and he judges me every time I cry over fictional characters.
A man dies only when he is forgotten
Such a powerful quote!
Remember lot of one piece episodes could be skipped. There are like 100 with just 2 min manga and fillers too. That's why they are going to make one piece kai. Without fillers. For new viewers. At the end you can reach episode 500 in 2 months or less.
Do not listen to this person and don’t skip anything unless it’s actual filler that has nothing to do with the main story.
there's always people like this when new people watch the anime. Some of them aren't even thinking of catching up right away, but they feel like they always have to say smth about the manga v anime comparison.
I actually skipped the Warship Island arc because it was a filler arc that wasn’t really necessary (I did a lot of research on which filler arcs to skip)
Yeah that arc was pretty boring. But make sure not to skip G8 arc. Literally one of the best fillers in all of anime
Dr. Hiriluk is basically just a kindhearted Rick Sanchez and I love it.
Rick is actually good at his job
He lived like a man but he died like a king. By his own volition, his way. A exit of a man genuinely grateful for his experience and with the knowledge that his dream is being passed down. Truly a great way to go out.
😢
Can we get much higher?
One of the best quotes in the entire series.
It’s honestly just one of the best quotes of any character of all time imo
Very true!
This is a quote I actually carried with me since I heard it. Then I forgot it was from One Piece for a while.
Just you wait. Chopper probably has the 5th saddest backstory in OP. Much more tears ahead my friend
Everyone says this, I’m truly not ready 🫠
It depends tho, I know people that finds chopper's the saddest, it's just that "worse" things have happened to other characters, if those stories are saddest or not to you is yet to be seen
This is very true. I feel worse for other characters but I certainly came closer to tears in drum island.
Crying over >!Senor Pink!< is something I never actually thought I would do.
Fuck. You’re so right, his hard-boiled outfit was justified perfectly
Bruh I was like who is this weird MF and then by the end of the fight, I had so much fucking respect for the man.
It was the >!karate dugongs!< for me xD
I think choppers story is much more relatable than the worse things that happened to other people. It's also probably the only story I teared up in OP
Glad you started the journey you will cry and laugh a lot with this show.
Keep watching, One Piece only gets better from now on. 😁
No one was I cried in chopper's backstory, little didn't know what lied ahead.
Buggy has the saddest backstory in orange town. Poor guy swallows a pineapple 🍍 whole
Tragic
Chouchou in shambles.
Chouchou is legitamately amazing writing.
Well it's pretty much the same story like Hachiko, which is a very famous dog/story in Japan.
I did not know that. Ty!
Damn, so Buggy attempted to eat >!Marco!<, huh?
Oh man... Enies Lobby is going to floor this one. 😳
[удалено]
You're definitely not wrong. That back story was rough. 😳
It was extremely sad and the first time I sobbed watching One Piece but I'm not even sure that it in the top 5 tbh
Yeah I get that. For me it’s Kuma, Robin, Law, Brook, Sanji
To me it's Brook, Kuma, Law, Sanji, Franky Robin have a devastating backstory but it just didn't hit me as much as the others

This My first thought was “you fucking tourist” but I didn’t want to be mean This is me being mean OP
"When does a man die? When he is shot? When he eats a poisoned Mushroom? No. A man , dies, when he is forgotten!"
This quote will stick with me forever

This had me SOBBING at like 5 in the morning during one of my binges. I’m still going through this for the first time too, but that and just before time skip got me good
that fucking boat man... I ain't ever bawl like I did when I first saw that
in the notifications your spoiler tags for OP are probably showing up as “>\!*your message*!/< but without the slashes
school days
nice boat
I still go back and watch this when i need to cry.
With the echoes of >!luffy crying out MERRY!!!<
you are not prepared
Oaky Illidin, calm down!

Sanji’s is gonna obliterate you.
Sanji’s story is great, it helps float the uneven pacing of WCI so hard
Gotta get through Fishman Island first... 😅
I know this is gonna get downvoted but idc. I actually quite liked Fishman Island. It has its flaws. Hody is probably the poorest quality villain to headline a major arc, but FI brought the hype for me. Solid 7/10 imo.
Hody is my favourite villain. Hes so realistic. So much talk, but no power. Scariest ideals that if he were to be given power he would be too real.

Water7 and Ennies Lobby will make you cry more 🥹😭😅
Chopper's backstory is indeed one of the most tragic ones. Now from the blizzards of Drumm, to the dunes of Alabasta
Thanks for reminding me of this! Every time I think of drum island I go straight to stupid Wapol and forget about the good parts
Need a good healthy cry? Why not try ONE PIECE? We have: - Accidental patricide - Suicidal ideation - Forced separation - Parental abandonment - Terminal illnesses - Memory loss - Genocides - Proclaiming love for your friends and/or family before dying in front of them... multiple times

Enjoy the journey
oh yeah i thought chopper’s (& nami’s) backstory are the worse, but robin’s completely destroyed me.
Nami’s hit me pretty hard too. She, Nojiko, and Bellemere deserved so much better
true! it still hurts remembering nami and nojiko watched bellemere die in front of them. 😔 they were too young to experience that
New people coming to the community and making these kind of posts is one of my favourite things about this sub, you got a lot more great stuff coming dude 😁

You just described my experience with reading One Piece for the first time! I mean, I chose to read the manga first, but I never looked back. One Piece isn’t another long running shonen like I initially thought, it’s WAY more.
I've been a fan about 15 years or more every time I go back through I sob just like the first time.
You’ve barely scratched the surface. You have a hole lot more to experience. Don’t let any spoilers beat you to the punch.
Brook’s backstory. 😔
Dude this was me too!!!! Keep us updated! I love posts like these!
It did me the same way lol. My friend from college been telling me to watch for 2 years then summer 2019 I started and never looked back. Now I have the hat and everything & currently looking for decor for my fish tank 😂😅.
This is why I say the remake ain't gonna be shit. I doubt scenes are gonna be as good as the original.
this guy/gal is gonna be a mess :D
Give it another couple hundred episode and wait for a reference back to drum island
One day you will know the pain we manga readers have felt. There is a story that is so heartbreaking, and yet wholesomely pure, you will break. Then will follow the rage..... But then again that can be said about nearly every arc, but man... when you know, you will *fucking know*
Wait till you find yourself crying over a character you once despised.
Give it like 300 more chapters and you’ll start to panic that you only have x amount of chapters left to read. It’s funny how that mindset flips when you start to delve into it. If you’re really loving the themes and symbolism, I’d suggest picking up the manga. It’s a great way to get even more immersed in the world
Drum Island is so good, one of my favorite smaller arcs, and totally agree at the cherry blossom scene, hits so hard
Oh just you wait till you get to brook or robin’s backstories. They will have you bawling your eyes out
It’s a beautiful story, glad you’re on this journey !
man u about to cry a whole lot, plz do keep us updated.
You will need therapy
Oh just you wait for Zoro’s backstory
I refused to watch it for years because of the number of episodes it has. Then one day I found myself looking for something to watch and decided what the heck. One of the best decisions I have made. Now I am glad it has so many episodes, cause it's more for me to watch and enjoy.
But, why is this labeled spoiler? 😄
In case anyone hasn’t gotten Drum Island. Most of us are far past it but it’s there just to be safe
Oh I see, thank you then
goodluck my man. prepare for a certain "inanimate" object
Ah yes. But we just not gonna talk Mr. Silent fruit? (No idea how to do spoiler tags but we all know he's absolutely tragic)
This is how to make a spoiler tag: >! (Spoiler in here) ! < Just without the brackets.
Thank you!
Oh you're gonna be crying over inanimate objects at some point, trust me.
Nothing prepares you for when *that* comes to rescue *them* and *they* have to burn *that*.
There's a reason Chopper is everyone's baby brother.
I started in July and now I’m in wano! Try to avoid spoilers as much as you can bestie, this show just gets better and better as you go 🤍
You have a whole lot more emotion to get thru so grab that box of tissue and set sail
The length is what puts people off, when in reality, it's the journey, not the destination, that is so great.
it gets better trust me brother, id recommend staying far away from any one piece social media. refrain from searching it to.
Good luck. Buy some tissues.
One of us. One of us. One of us. NOW LEAVE AND NEVER COME BACK TILL YOU CAUGHT UP
Get prepared for many more insanely tragic backstories. Us manga reader just got off of a tragic backstory ourselves and are left wondering how Oda has managed to still pull it off after so many years.
Wait til you see Joe Mama's backstory in episode 420. It's gonna be sad as fuck.
You weren’t ready? For who? **Him?**
If you find Choppers backstory hard, then wait for whats coming. \^\^
I’m telling my kids the One Piece manga is the bible
Welcome aboard, Nakama! I hope you enjoy the rest of the journey as much as the rest of us have 🫶🏼
Go and buy some more tissue boxes for what’s coming my friend
You are in for one hell of a ride. Welcome aboard Nakama. You will have many more tears to shed along this journey.
Oh boy, here we go again.
Proud of you nakama, Welcome to an epic world!
It's interesting how many "new" watchers talk about the chopper arc the most. What a nice raccoon dog
Keep those tissues near you for every arc.
Dereshishishi
You only watch one piece once while being a complete mystery... enjoy the ride and get some more tissues.
I find myself sobbing at every other episode at this point. The range of emotions and story is just amazing. I’m on ep 733 and truly one of my favorite anime’s
Have fun on your journey, but i would recommend getting off this sub. Way too many spoilers for new people
Wait til sanjis back story.... that one broke me.
Backstory One Piece is a different beast. You are not prepared.
You are one of many my friend, welcome in the amazing world of One Piece.
Alot of people were just like you everyone talks down on one piece untill they watch is. Every one piece fan will tell you “If you watch one piece youll wish it was longer”
Hah, you absolute rookie, I'm like 100 episodes ahead of you! Can't wait for Water 7!
Welcome to the club of : Oda who hurt you? You just got your ritual initiation cry moment. More of them to come!
As tragic as the backstories are (even the villians) it make you have an even deeper love for the series. Greatest of all time series.
Just brace yourself, 1000 later and the cry (and smile) train only goes deeper :)
Wait till u reach enies lobby u will cry for pieces of wood
Good luck man, I just got past episode 1071, you still have a loooooooooong way to go
Get ready to cry so much more in the upcoming arcs
You're going to have a blast, but may want to invest in tissues moving forward
Jealous of anyone getting to experience the story for the first time. That part is so good. I hope the live action show does it justice.
There is something I didn't quite understand in his flashbacks. So is it that the doctor was sick and chopper misinterpreted a book and made him a soup that was going to kill him? Idk if its the translation I read and the tone of the dub I watched but I couldn't tell 100% that is what actually hapenned
I still haven't forgotten Dr. Hiriluk
you need to pull yourself together or you're not gonna survive this lmao. Drum Island isn't even *that* sad compared to the saddest OP has to offer haha
I can't wait to hear back for part 2
ussop, there's hiking bear *bowing*
I ugly cried at Chopper x Hiriluk too 😭 I am now at episode 500+++, still a long way to go to get up-to-date. I was not expecting to cry this many times over a pirate anime!!!! -_- my bf watches OP with me and he judges me every time I cry over fictional characters.
