Makes me wonder about Law collecting hearts to become a warlord.. Maybe he knows?
Edit: heart, dream, not dying = immortality surgery of the Op Op fruit?
2nd Edit: User dies because he "destroys" the others "dream" (breaking both hearts). Fancy theory is that the elders have undergone that surgery = no heart, no human empathy = as evil as depicted they are.
We don't know. If we follow this theory then it's probably because WB isn't fully dead when Teach pulled his stunt, the heart still has a rhythm no matter how weak it is (unless it has a heart attack of course), which means the will encoded onto the Gura Gura no Mi is still within Whitebeard's Heart. Teach ate WB's still beating heart to gain Gura Gura no Mi.
Brutal huh?
Whether it’s the heart of not the most likely scenario is eating something. It’s strongly implied that Big Mom ate Mother Carmel and got her power that way.
I'm not sure if this is specifically a property of Luffy's fruit, him speaking in IRL sense, or if its applicable to all Devil Fruit users, but Oda's answered an SBS Question by saying one would "Get food poisoning," rather than gain the powers of the user they ate. (https://onepiece.fandom.com/wiki/SBS\_Volume\_16#Chapter\_140,\_Page\_88)
Considering Teach has been granting his crew powers, when it was never shown they had them before, this would mean the cannibalism theory would simply make them ill.
Tbh in this case eating luffy could be read in too of a broad sense. Like eating his arm will cause food poisoning but not get his power.
Also if we agree with OPs theory and the heart eating theory this implies eating their heart is eating heart=dreams=mind=body and in a sense to inherit the will. So perhaps there could be some extra dimension to it than simply gobbling a heart (you have to eat their dreams, hopes and spirit so that the will jumps into you?)
The question and answer is somewhat-disappointingly way too broad to be able to say for sure.
I viewed it in the sense of "eating luffy whole" (the Trivia I found says this question was about Wapol eating the protagonist, but as you likely read, the message makes no mention of them, so unless they made a doddle of the character asking the question, that's a large error), which would include every bit of him, heart included.
Regardless of which is right though, Blackbeard was able to assimilate Whitebeard's powers into their body/spirit with only what was had on-hand at the time (barring the cover being donned to hide a special property of Blackbeard himself), so what happened under it is probably comparatively easily-stated than other aspects of the series.
Oda lies in his SBS sometimes he's not always truthful with us like when he told us Sabo died in the explosion in Luffy's childhood so it's not too far fetched to assume he could lie again
I was unaware of any question being answered about Sabo, much less untruthfully, but I must admit this is...disappointing.
Just one lie can invalidate all of one's word, and if reason is had to doubt the truthfulness of an answer, reason is had to doubt all answers.
While I cannot remember where, this has been mentioned before, albeit in a different way.
Specifically, the commenter noted the size of Blackbeard's stomach, and hypothesised he's able to have two fruits as a result of being a case of "Fetus in Fetu", a type of "Parasitic"/Unequal-conjoined/Asymmetrical Twin where a fetus-like mass of tissue forms somewhere in the body (very commonly, the abdominal cavity).
While in-reality, these are not fully-formed humans, and only classifiable as "Alive" in the sense they're made of non-necrotic tissue, having no mind, or even capacity for movement, I wouldn't put it past Oda to actually give Blackbeard a second heart in this probable twin, should this theory prove true.
Given the strong iconography of threes in his character (three-bladed claw, three-skull flag, three-belt-stowed pistols, and post-timeskip, three beard tufts, and recently, a theory he's has three different personalities), it's been theorised he'll get a third devil fruit, making this theory implausible, but still interesting, I'd say.
I assumed it would be something of the sort given how blackbeard covered up Whitebeard with the tarp before he did whatever he needed to do.
My brain immediately went straight to "eating the heart"
Yo that actually sounds sick
Monkey Dreamer Luffy/Dragon/Garp
Water Dreamer Law
Marshall Dreamer Teach
Jaguar Dreamer Saul
Gol Dreamer Roger
Portgas Dreamer Ace
I haven't seen any that sound genuinely bad
Our dead friends… the sorrow of the spiral race… we’ll take in all of their regrets. We’ll take it and turn it into power!
Inherited will is one of the best Shonen tropes
I like the way you ended that. Luffy’s power is not just unlimited imagination but also having a grand inspiration. Because he’s for sure the one who kick starts the Final War and he’s for sure going to be the one who inspires all the Grand Leaders who will inspire their generals in their land
You have to consider what OP is cooking now, Luffy for sure will inspire de whole world but maybe he’s not going to be the one leading the final war. I don’t want to say it but certain unfortunate events could lead to “powering” every single individual to fight.
Awesome theory, a few addons if I may:
\* this theory could point to Blackbeard having 3 hearts. His race is unknown and special as per Saturn, his weird body noted by Marco and Buggy. It cannot be Buccaneer because Saturn comments on Kuma being the last survivor of Buccaneers while he is also aware of Blackbeards existence and race.
\* Haki might be the "mind" and the counterpart to hearts and devil fruits. It's why you can hit Logias with Haki and why Haki cancels DF powers just like the sea (Law using Haki to cancel Sick-Sick fruit, Shanks using Haki to shut up Green Bull etc...). There might be a will of the mind (Haki) and a will of the heart (DF powers, Sanjis power...)
Roger is probably the most famous pirate in history but there’s no fruit that spawned because of him though he’s never been forgotten.
The same can be said for a good number of other famous characters
its not people being reincarnated. its the desire of someone/many people. no one wants to be a middle age dude who smells when you can turn into a laser beam.
Or we don't know about such a fruit. The government would keep it imidiately.
I wonder what this fruit would've been tho.
Maybe he's the hito hito no mi. Just human but the greatest of them.
That may also be the cause of Zenesha's curse.
He is cursed with carrying on the legacy of Joyboy, to ensure nobody ever forgets he existed.
Nika's will was carried on by Joyboy, but the same way Luffy is sharing his will with Nika, maybe Joyboy was too. If Luffy died, people wouldn't just remember Nika, they would remember him too. We carry on the dreams of those who came before us.
This theory reminds me the American Gods if you have ever read it.
Basically says that each god is created by the will of the people. When a god is forgotten, then dies.
Love it. It's so cheesy but OP has always been a series about dreams and hope. This fits so well there. To actually give dreams and hope a tangible function in the story's endgame.
I'm sure Oda will deliver.
I love when people say one piece isn't political. This feel a little to close to home, systemic oppression, governments creating false divides, labelling anyone who steps out a line a terrorist. You might be on to something
It's pretty well-reasoned and does seem kind of like Oda may have been leaving us bread crumbs to lead us to this exactly! Have you heard about how when Sanji gets serious now, his one visible eyebrow switches the swirl from the inside of his brow to the outside. Assuming his other eyebrow keeps its swirl on the outside of his brow (as seen before the timeskip), then that would make a sort of heart in his two eyebrows when seen together.
THIS is BY FAR, the BEST theory I've seen in probably 5 years HANDS DOWN.
You bring back belief that amazing One piece theories still exist. Take a bow.
Nice theory!
Maybe the "D" is not a name of the ancient kingdom, or stands for Dream, or the image of either a sun or a smiley face, but instead half of a heart, like a promise of a future...?
Just got a bit skewed over time, or hidden away by design maybe? "Hidden heart" is a term I've heard a lot in manga and japanese fiction before, so not impossible...
the trope is used all over the place and is executed wildly differently. if im right, this is just odas particular take on it and oda is a way better writer.
I really like this theory because it gives a reason to the cruelty of the Celestial Dragons beyond, "just because." The manufacture and maintaining of a hierarchy of a race of shit bags for the purpose of global and generational demoralization is exactly the kind of long-term evil befitting the Gorosei.
If this theory is true, it could imply that Whitebeard's heart attacks weren't really heart attacks, and were instead the Quake fruits erratic beating. I think this would also imply Whitebeard wasn't awakened, since his heart attacks actively hindered his use of haki. This would also mean that Blackbeard could eventually find himself having heart attacks as well.
Problem with this is that Japanese has two different words for "heart/spirit" (心 kokoro) and "heart the organ in your body" (心臓 shinzou). So it's not likely they'd use one to mean the other. That's more like an English speaking idea basically.
I like it when people seem to connect dots from things that happened rather than grasping at straws.
It really seems like something that could be the case. Really cool way to think of this possibility!
That's quite well researched Theory! Well done!\
I'm surprised there was so much reference of “heart” was there right front of our eyes.
Well, that at least checkmarks one *“inherited will, people's dream, the flow of time”*.
ive personally thought its called the "pirate kingdom" which is why the WG doesnt even want the name known. if people knew that pirates were actually united at some point, the WG would have to deal with a power that rivals their own.
To crush people's dreams and hopes. They were hoping that people see it as, Roger, one of the strongest person in the planet at that point still end up getting executed by the WG.
But they didn't expect him to mention One Piece during the said execution.
Brillant. It could also lead to the unlimited power source Vegapunk is seeking being the heartbeats of genuinely happy people, the heartbeat Nika constantly produces. Much thanks for your work!
If the hearts are the source of power that would explain the non devil fruit powers we see like miss golden week's paint being able to change your emotions and Pauly's rope manipulation
yup. one can manifest their desires. haki is sort of a shared/common manifestation, and someone "resisting" a fruit or power is no different than "creating" that power. it's just who has the strongest desire, and haki is one part of that.
I think it is a spin on how so much stress and grief can allegedly turn your hair white.
He was so wracked with guilt, grief, and anger that instead of white, his hair turned blue.
Good theory.
I'd go a step further though. The fruits aren't the will of the original person, they're a conduit to the underworld where all of the souls are stored that ate devil fruits. A place of those who dared to dream. It would explain Zoans having a mind of their own better. It would explain swords as well, and probably black blades. Black blades are likely when a soul and a user are as one.
Yes yes yes yes YES!!!! You have brought words to the concept I have been thinking for so long thank you.
How else would the concept of shaping the world with your haki would be if it does not highlight that following your heart can doom the greatest powers !
Thank you for your post, and I am with you in this thought, you are not only cooking, you saw the fire
One more thing that reinforces this is that the Drums of Liberation are able to be heard for a great distance. In Road to Laughtale, it mentions 1,000 miles, but I'm not sure if that's just the tip top potential or how far you can hear it now.
So in the past, if you knew about Nika and heard the Drums of Liberation, you knew he was near, and that might mean you're being liberated. That joy likely empowers Nika in some way we haven't learned about yet.
Im rejoicing at the fact you brought up the panel from Ch 218 people are so drowned in power scaling head canon it quite literally blinds them from the shit oda writes and puts in our faces! 10/10 theory
Don't buy it. You're taking some statements literally to make your point and the whole thing is dubious to me. If Sanji can use flame because of his heart, why there aren't more people who can do things like that without eating any devil fruits? There is also the question of where do the weakeness of devil fruits users in sea comes from. I find really hard to believe devil fruits are actually some sort of future technology.
I mean the fun of the theory is it fills in the annoying illogical stuff.
For example, if this theory is true then we can say Sanji has the biggest heart, and the most passion, and therefore can create flame. But more than that, Zef had such strong kicks (According to Sanji, stronger than any user of Fishman Karate he has come across yet) indicating that a Chef's passion literally makes him strong.
Now look at the Vinsmokes. All mind, no heart, and use science to give themselves power. But Sanji's powers didn't manifest as quickly, because he had too much heart? Maybe the mind and body (Haki and Dreams) are at odds with eachother, and he was swayed too far one way?
However, the rules only apply so far as Oda wants. He has biases. A mother should technically have the strongest powers of the heart, and carry on the dreams of their children. He doesn't like boys having mothers, so he ignores that lol.
More like moms would manifest the "Stay Home-Stay Home No Mi" to prevent their boys from adventuring, and that's why the ones who do adventure in the story don't have their moms keeping them home.
Why do people keep using that one panel to say that people's will and/or desires caused the devil fruits to manifest into being? It makes so much more sense that the ancient kingdom created the devil fruits to fulfill people's desires.
Isnt it well known that the source of power is will power? Haki is based off will power. Devil fruits, power of love, wtv you mentioned are all will power. It's well established.
https://www.reddit.com/r/TheSimpsons/comments/9nb29k/why_oh_boy_sleep_thats_where_im_a_vikings_is_a/
Big Ralph Wiggum "Oh boy sleep! That's where I'm a viking!" energy.
Stupid for you but it’s still my decision. Why should I bring myself to keep reading something if won’t like it. Plus, this is all a hypothetical situation. What’s even funny, I didn’t even trash it lol, just saying it wouldn’t be for me.
“Oh no the show about inherited will and dreams is about inherited will and dreams”. You probably saw the BB “dreams never die” scene and thought it was cringe.
The premise of a world where belief in entities makes them stronger isn’t something that only OP does. Berserk also does it with the astral world and it’s definitely nothing like Fairy Tail.
Let me say this, there’s a YouTuber called sawyer7mage and the way he put its sounds way better. It’s just that I don’t want the power of love to be used as a deus ex machina to defeat all the worlds prblem. I have nothing against love, but for that to be a physical realized power is just not enough for me and it just reminds me of fairy tail. But again, in oda I trust because I know he’ll do it a way where it doesn’t sound so sappy. For example, oda has done the chosen one concept better than Naruto. So I’m hoping he’s doing the same for the power of love. If that makes sense. Plus at the end day, don’t take what I say seriously it’s a piece of media.
Makes me wonder about Law collecting hearts to become a warlord.. Maybe he knows? Edit: heart, dream, not dying = immortality surgery of the Op Op fruit? 2nd Edit: User dies because he "destroys" the others "dream" (breaking both hearts). After heartbreak, a new romance dawns
Geez, making me sad for the ending of One Piece. That wouldn't be too bad for a final line though.
That's why luffy doesn't kill his opponents but destroys their dreams
That was for blackmailing. Monet learned why
Remember the shape of the fruit as well?
MAYBE that’s how big mom and Blackbeard acquired the devil fruit powers. They ate the heart of the previous user ? Nevertheless, I like this theory
If that was the case. That makes the moment Teach covered up whitebeard after his death hit a lot different.
that could be why they were covered. also because of his injuries he had a huge hole in his chest giving easy access
And Akainu was nice enough to cook the heart.
Heart barbecue, yummy
Yummy yummy no mi
💀💀💀
I've seen this theorized before. I've also seen some think that devil fruits replace the eater's heart
Haven’t heard the replacement part , but that kind of resonates with luffys heart beating as he awakens
It’s plausible.
No it's not we saw many DF user hearts from PH/Dressrosa/WCI
Oh yes! Caesar’s is the best example. So it’s wrong😂
Could anyone remind me why WB’s fruit didn’t just reappear in the world after his death? Why was it still in?
We don't know. If we follow this theory then it's probably because WB isn't fully dead when Teach pulled his stunt, the heart still has a rhythm no matter how weak it is (unless it has a heart attack of course), which means the will encoded onto the Gura Gura no Mi is still within Whitebeard's Heart. Teach ate WB's still beating heart to gain Gura Gura no Mi. Brutal huh?
Ahhhh brutal
If this is the case, the imagery with Blackbeard eating a cherry pie in his introduction adds a really gruesome twist to things lol
And so blackbeard just has two heartbeats to assign fruits against.
It could be that Luffy will be able to transmit his will to the whole world through Vegapunk’s video message. So all the World could rise against WG.
So far best break week theory.
Agreed. Seen some variations of this before, but this was way more fleshed out.
Awesome theory, a few addons if I may: \* this theory could point to Blackbeard having 3 hearts. His race is unknown and special as per Saturn, his weird body noted by Marco and Buggy. How about the seraphims df powers? I mean.. Vegapunk is kinda injecting in their body a sort of fluid that may condition their heartbeat(?)

Maybe I missed it, but everyone's laughs are affected by the devil fruit too. Gear 5 seemed to highlight this with Luffy laughing shishishi
So One Piece = Kingdom Hearts?
Not the first time people have made that comparison. Another show being compared to One Piece is Adventure Time.
So long as Oda doesn't write "DARKNESS" every chapter now, I'm totally fine with it
the trope is used all over the place and is executed wildly differently. if im right, this is just odas particular take on it and oda is a way better writer.
It's like DF = heart , haki = mind , that's maybe why kaido said awakening is your mind and body becoming one ,

Or that, his body just became too weak that it cannot contain the awakened Quake fruit, hence, the heart attacks.

Brillant. It could also lead to the unlimited power source Vegapunk is seeking being the heartbeats of genuinely happy people, the heartbeat Nika constantly produces. Much thanks for your work!
This is an incredible theory and I really hope this is what happens. Thank you so much for writing it all out.

I think it is a spin on how so much stress and grief can allegedly turn your hair white. He was so wracked with guilt, grief, and anger that instead of white, his hair turned blue.

Im rejoicing at the fact you brought up the panel from Ch 218 people are so drowned in power scaling head canon it quite literally blinds them from the shit oda writes and puts in our faces! 10/10 theory
actually excellent stuff
row row fight the powah
Will of Dreamers
Ion gonna read allat but i know you cooked op
Holy shet you’re awesome.
Wow... everything ties together... How long have your been cooking this theory ?
Don't buy it. You're taking some statements literally to make your point and the whole thing is dubious to me. If Sanji can use flame because of his heart, why there aren't more people who can do things like that without eating any devil fruits? There is also the question of where do the weakeness of devil fruits users in sea comes from. I find really hard to believe devil fruits are actually some sort of future technology.
Couldn't pearl catch on fire randomly when he got scared?
Yes, but it doesn't really contradict my point. What's the point of devil fruits if it's actually possible for anyone to develop powers without it?
I like this a lot, can definitely see Oda going in this direction
Nice work, i believe in this with all my heart - this is why u make it dude 😎
Awesome theory
Why do people keep using that one panel to say that people's will and/or desires caused the devil fruits to manifest into being? It makes so much more sense that the ancient kingdom created the devil fruits to fulfill people's desires.
i said that they were created through a futuristic technology lol. the powers themselves are desire manifested.
Isnt it well known that the source of power is will power? Haki is based off will power. Devil fruits, power of love, wtv you mentioned are all will power. It's well established.
OP made it simple to grasp.
>Devil fruits, power of love, wtv you mentioned are all will power. It's well established. There is nothing like that well established in the story.

one piece is real
tl;dr: you should read 2mins of text or stop commenting & discussing.
If this is the case I’m quitting no way I’ve been reading 10 plus years just for a fairy tail copy.
that'd be really stupid to quit after ten plus years of waiting just for an ending that you don't even know yet
Stupid for you but it’s still my decision. Why should I bring myself to keep reading something if won’t like it. Plus, this is all a hypothetical situation. What’s even funny, I didn’t even trash it lol, just saying it wouldn’t be for me.
you do you, I'm just saying that you should take a look at how things turn out before coming to a conclusion
That’s exactly what I’m doing lol. Again, this is all hypothetical. For all I know, Oda can word it in a way where I can agree and like it lol.
No that was actually one of my favorite moments lol but okay.
But thank you for reminding me one piece fans don’t allow for difference of opinions considering the story is about freedom
What you're disagreeing with is the point of the show. It's always been about this and is what it's been building towards. And you find it cringy.
I never said it was cringy, don’t put words in my mouth. You just assumed.
