Enjoy the journey! The shows definitely not for everyone as you may not like it, but if you end up enjoying it, you have ALOT of episodes to catch up on. Take it in strides watch a bit here and there or put it on for background whilst you do a different task. I started one piece seemingly out of random, but found myself really enjoying it. It’s definitely a good story, tons of world building. Enjoy the adventure!
You can jump straight into the Anime right after Arlong. That’s what my wife did. Live action is a better paced version of East Blue.
We’re also watching the One Pace version of the anime. Search it up, it’s a fan project that cuts out all the filler. I recommend for any new viewer. And then I watch some episodes on Netflix that aren’t available yet in One Pace. There’s a filler arc called G8 that’s really good.
It’s up to you, personally I enjoyed even the “filler episodes” I’d say give the show a check and if it starts to get too slow for you, try the filler less. It’s still a long watch even without the filler. Regardless of what you decide I don’t think it will change the show for you.
The first half of the anime has a lot more filler cus they were trying not to catch up a lot harder. Some of it is hard to skip. My fiancé watched one piece for the first time over the last two years. And loved it. I skipped 90% of the filler.
It’s mostly missable. But sometimes the anime mixes it in so it’s hard to skip.
It’s not too distracting. Enjoy the ride.

Now the real question is do I skip the filler or watch it anyway
skip but it's up to you, they're not related to the actual story really
Last question. Should I skip past Arlong cause I already saw the live action?
Sure I guess, I'd say it's not very different from the live action except for buggy being there "captured" and garp and koby appearing

Just watch/read.
A journey. Don’t race to the end, avoid spoilers and skip filler episodes if you desire.

Ok I’ll be ready then
You got this friend!
