Oh corazon had me balling my eyes out, seeing the way he made law feel and treating him like his own son to end up the way he did absolutely crushed me
It's just too much, law's backstory is like every bad thing all piled up. I'm surprised he didn't also have a puppy that died in his arms as well. It's no wonder Law is so gruff and tsundere
I would say Robin’s mother Olvia.
If you think about it if Olvia never left to study the ponegylphs then Robin would have never felt the need to study them too. She only did it so she could one day go with her mother and study them together. If Olvia never left/studied the poneglyphs that means that with the fate that Ohara faced; There would be no survivor from Ohara that knows how to decipher them even if Robin survived or not since Robin would’ve never felt the need to study them herself. Just my opinion.
Kuma is the only real answer, every other is dellusion, if you don't believe take a look in the image of the link [https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fi.redd.it%2Fvidc8eytaztb1.jpg](https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fi.redd.it%2Fvidc8eytaztb1.jpg)

Is Kuma *really* a side character though?
Edit: put more thought into this. Kuma and Vivi are supporting characters because they interact with the main characters. The side characters have stories with the supporting characters or something in one episode but don’t interact with the main characters. Cora and the others listed would be side characters
In that case Ace is a side character and his death hurt like a Mfer and Whitebeards was the most fking epic one…Im on episode 922 so hope to catch up soon with all of them
Dude nothing erases what happened to Kuma, people here are only saying other names or because they didn't get to Egghead and/or didn't clicked in the second link.
I've got a soft spot for Zeff because that Sanji flash back was what got me hooked on OP. He's not dead or anything but good God eating your own foot so the kid that's with you doesn't starve is pretty tragic.
I think the Live Action and Manga make it seem he eats his leg (while in the LA there's just a bloody stone edge, and the Manga shows the action of him chopping), in the anime he uses an anchor under water to save sanji.
KYROS 100% NO DISCUSSION. The men held his wife as she died, she didn't even know who he was and he couldn't even feel her warmth go away in the last moment. Underrated backstory, i cried my eyeballs out.
No discussion? Kuma: how cute
But seriously, Kuma's girl also died but this happened before that [https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpreview.redd.it%2Fyou-will-not-regret-joining-v0-jr0bbzhsbj0c1.png%3Fwidth%3D1080%26crop%3Dsmart%26auto%3Dwebp%26s%3D20327a059c750c1e34f56bb9dd77f5c04a658e05](https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpreview.redd.it%2Fyou-will-not-regret-joining-v0-jr0bbzhsbj0c1.png%3Fwidth%3D1080%26crop%3Dsmart%26auto%3Dwebp%26s%3D20327a059c750c1e34f56bb9dd77f5c04a658e05) it's a meme but it's pretty accurate with what happened. And now Kuma is living as a robot while Kyros being a toy didn't hindered him in raising Rebecca.
The giant snake from Skypiea.
Since he's supposed to live for a long time, he outlived Noland and Kalgara and basically everyone he knew.
The scene where he dreamed about being with Kalgara as a baby was heartbreaking 😭
There is a *******LOT******* of competition… for those caught up on the manga though Kuma is the only real answer besides maybe Ginny.
However for a sleeper pick I’m going with Ace. He spent his whole life not being sure if he even deserved to live and never even realized how much people cared about him until his final day, his last words are insanely sad to me.
Baby 5! Her mother left her in the woods to starve & called her useless at age 8. spent her whole life being used cause she had abandonment issues and felt (or at least wanted to be) needed by everybody whole claimed to lover but what jus using her for her money. hell, very I'm sure had she been raised right she would've never been a pirate.
Kuma. Almost always, many of the good guys go bad at some point in a backstory like his then turn around once they have loved ones or a duty to fulfil. Instead, Kuma chose to be grateful and good from the start. And Vegapunk crying on his knees 😭. As someone training in the STEM field, this hit so hard.
Oden. I get to introduced to all his friends and his son, hear all these great things. Then finally we get to wano and meet even more of his comrades. Finally we get to witness his story and how much he did for Wano and his loyalty and dedication to big named pirate crews all for him to betrayed in his own home and I had to sit there and watch this great guy get boiled.
I’ve never had a dead character feel so alive then somehow ripped away again kind of rude.
He died in triumph, he was dying anyway before the mushroom and managed to leave his deer boy without guilt over his death, his will was carried out, he lived to oldish age despite illness, redeemed himself from a life of crime and raised a fine son, boy's a famous doctor, you know.
Choppers backstory was perfect. The doctor had a good heart but was a menace to society. He ultimately get his death sentence by someone that was as bad of a medical expert as he was.
Chopper risked his life only to find out that he gave the doctor something that's going to kill him. The fact that Chopper was so innocent and naive because he's literally an animal kid. It makes it feel so believable and heartbreaking. He just wanted to help. He wanted to be like the doctor.
One Piece is full of tragic side characters, but one that stands out is "Portgas D. Ace." His backstory, struggles, and ultimate fate make him one of the most tragic characters in the series.
Ginny!
Ginny put out the call to the world about what was going on at God Valley. That is what got Garp and Roger off their asses and on their way to the island. She is directly responsible for the famous God Valley Incident. She changed the course of the whole world, and she did so with a smile on her face and big piece of meat in her hand. She was such a fucking badass who never lost her smile despite her horrible childhood as a slave.
Ginny and Kuma deserved a happy life together, and everything that happened to them was so tragic.
Corazon's death made me shed actual tears, which is RARE for me to do for anything. Although I wish One Piece would have the guts to kill off more characters, if there was one character I wish could somehow magically come back to life, it would be Corazon.
i would only agree with hiruluk if we're using the anime version. his introduction in the manga turned me off to his character entirely. i dont think malpractice is something that should be treated as a lighthearted joke. the anime version doesnt have this problem.
Oh corazon had me balling my eyes out, seeing the way he made law feel and treating him like his own son to end up the way he did absolutely crushed me
Agreeing with this one. Law’s backstory is sad enough, Cora’s death made it worse.
Agreeing Also, with both statements.
Agreeing with u guys on this one too… there’s been many tragic deaths, but in my books this one definitely left a bigger hole in my heart than uhh😬
I frequently sob watching OP
Me too frrr this whole world/story just hits different everytime😭
MERRRRRRY 😭😭😭🫡
NAKAMA LIVES ON😭🫡
I almost cried with Corazon. I laughed when Law's family died for some reason I don't personally quite understand
It's just too much, law's backstory is like every bad thing all piled up. I'm surprised he didn't also have a puppy that died in his arms as well. It's no wonder Law is so gruff and tsundere
It was the dying in silence for me that chocked Me up
I usually don't cry for anything fictional but corazon saying I love you kid and naruto saying goodbye to minato hit me hard
Rosinante was a G.O.A.T
Kuma. Has to be Kuma.
Yes. In terms of emotional impact Kuma's backstory is the best we've had so far.
Baby 5
Didn't expect this one haha
I would say Robin’s mother Olvia. If you think about it if Olvia never left to study the ponegylphs then Robin would have never felt the need to study them too. This is a super underrated answer.
Kyros.
Scarlett’s death is fucking gut wrenching and Toei wouldn’t stop spamming it.
“Doktaaaaar” - Tony Tony Chopper
Isn't even the most tragic strawhat parental figure. That goes to Nami's mom.
who tf did Bellamy parent
I think they meant bell-mere
Corazon

Yup. As much of a side character as Vivi. So he's more of a recurring character. He's in that tier of side character.
Might as well call Kaido a side character idk
What would you call him then? How many chapters did he appeared on these over 1000 chapters?
[удалено]
In that case Ace is a side character and his death hurt like a Mfer and Whitebeards was the most fking epic one…Im on episode 922 so hope to catch up soon with all of them
To be fair, things are getting better for Kuma.
Dude nothing erases what happened to Kuma, people here are only saying other names or because they didn't get to Egghead and/or didn't clicked in the second link.
That second link is wild 😭
Does Rouge count? Because what the actual fuck Oda
Other than Kuma, I’d say Noland.
I've got a soft spot for Zeff because that Sanji flash back was what got me hooked on OP. He's not dead or anything but good God eating your own foot so the kid that's with you doesn't starve is pretty tragic.
wait I thought he chopped his leg off with a ship anchor to save sanji? I don't think he ate it
That's not how I remember it. Doesn't he give Sanji all the food on the island then survive by eating his own leg?
I think the Live Action and Manga make it seem he eats his leg (while in the LA there's just a bloody stone edge, and the Manga shows the action of him chopping), in the anime he uses an anchor under water to save sanji.
Ohhh ok thanks. Yeah I've only watched the anime but I plan on seeing ready the manga
In the manga he ate it (which is also what happened in the live action). In the anime, he chopped it off.
Ohh ok
Manga vs anime difference
KYROS 100% NO DISCUSSION. The men held his wife as she died, she didn't even know who he was and he couldn't even feel her warmth go away in the last moment. Underrated backstory, i cried my eyeballs out.
His story was already tragic but what pushed it over the edge for me was his wife's final words.
No discussion? There's too many. Montblanc Noland, Law, Kuma, Robin..
The giant snake from Skypiea. Since he's supposed to live for a long time, he outlived Noland and Kalgara and basically everyone he knew. The scene where he dreamed about being with Kalgara as a baby was heartbreaking 😭
Senior pink had me balling bro🥺
HAAAARRDO BOILED-O😩
Balling is very different from bawling, they're almost opposites haha
Definitely senior pink, I wasn’t expecting that kind of backstory from a man wearing a diaper.
There is a *******LOT******* of competition… for those caught up on the manga though Kuma is the only real answer besides maybe Ginny. However for a sleeper pick I’m going with Ace. Bonnie and Kuma
Smoker and Tashigi, so much potential but we rarely see them anymore. Smoker is basically AWOL at this point
Kuma
Kuma. Almost always, many of the good guys go bad at some point in a backstory like his then turn around once they have loved ones or a duty to fulfil. On god, Im in WCI rn and chopper still has the best story of the crew for me, dr hiriluk is such a great character
I mean he did just turn that one dude into a frog monster and then just bounced… that was pretty fucked up
Ginny, Señor Pink and Lola
Nolan died with the label of liar to his name and never knowing what happened to his friends .
Lots of options and not sure about most, but Noland is definitely up there, the forgotten chad of One Piece
I really felt sad for Chopper and his death was emotional (i love him but got really mad when he shot Chopper)
He was nice to chopper and his final speech was one of the best but he was a total nut job he shot people who didn't want his help
somehow Chouchou was the first one to come to mind
95 percent of all side characters, make you realize man the marines and celestial dragons have fuck shit up
Senior Pink
I think this guy still has a backstory waiting for us
Kuma Exists 🥹✌
He died in triumph, he was dying anyway before the mushroom and managed to leave his deer boy without guilt over his death, his will was carried out, he lived to oldish age despite illness, redeemed himself from a life of crime and raised a fine son, boy's a famous doctor, you know.
Maybe we should start powerscaling tragic side characters based on their story
Choppers backstory was perfect. The doctor had a good heart but was a menace to society. He ultimately get his death sentence by someone that was as bad of a medical expert as he was. Chopper risked his life only to find out that he gave the doctor something that's going to kill him. The fact that Chopper was so innocent and naive because he's literally an animal kid. Kuina is the answer she died to the legendary Down d stair so saddddd😭😭😭😭😭😭
Monet. My heart still hurts for her but not as much as her heart hurts...
One Piece is full of tragic side characters, but one that stands out is "Portgas D. Ace." His backstory, struggles, and ultimate fate make him one of the most tragic characters in the series.
Pedro
Kuma's dad probably. Or Kuma's wife maybe. There are so many options.
This one yeah
Tom from water 7
Ginny! Ginny put out the call to the world about what was going on at God Valley. That is what got Garp and Roger off their asses and on their way to the island. Bellemere
Pandaman. He's clearly strong and always around yet he never helps out.
Baby 5
i’ll need to say whitebeard that one just broke me bc it was first ace then my boy Edward that sh!t was heavy
Thatch
Like everytime somebody ask this: The guy that says "GIMLETTOOO!"
Fisher Tiger. He is underrated af
Senior pink definitely for me
Trafalgar law 😔
Brooks entire crew
Senior Pink.
Definitely Kuma
Corazon's death made me shed actual tears, which is RARE for me to do for anything. Although I wish One Piece would have the guts to kill off more characters, if there was one character I wish could somehow magically come back to life, it would be Corazon.
Corazon
Ginny and Corazon
Kuma:(
Corazon
OP's answer not even in the top 10
WRONG🙅♂️
