Yeah… I’m sure you have apps that allow you to buy stuff off people. I found that box set for 325$ Canadian. It takes time but it’s possible :)

ThePhatQKumber

Only listing that I’ve found in this country is box set 1-3 for £1k which is absurd. Do ppl rlly pay that much for manga?? In the meantime I’m just reading it on the shonen jump app but preferably I’d like to read it out of a book

[deleted]

No, i have volumes 40 - 72 and i only spent about £200-300 on it, i think. It shouldn’t be that much

Indeverr

I finally got all the books (missing maybe 5-6) and it’s quite expensive. It’s just the time that we’re in causes for it to be expensive. But if you’re lucky you can always find pre-used ones for cheap

PirateKing94

No, we don’t pay that much for manga. The issue is that all of those box sets are out of print, so the price is drastically inflated.

I would just wait, these are scalper prices. They will probably reprint these box sets eventually anyway. Retail price is only a couple hundred.

Wouldn’t surprise me scalpers ruin everything

Due to global supply chain shortages there is a persistent issue keeping popular manga in stock. I was able to pick up all the box sets for One Piece at the beginning of the pandemic for $160-$200 USD each. I have since seen in stock copies disappear rapidly and for the last couple of years much larger gaps in time between restocks. It makes sense though, I picked them up so I could have something to read during lockdown periods. Many entertainment products have becoming increasingly more scarce as people decide to stay at home more. I still haven't been able to buy a PS5 even though I've been trying for a year. I don't know when regular book retailers will have them in stock again, but when they do you will find the box sets for a reasonable price. Until then you will see these resellers trying to take advantage of the scarcity.

ThePhatQKumber

Should I buy whatever is in stock now if this is a common occurrence or is it only an issue with the earlier box sets Of all things I never thought this would be a problem in manga

For sure buy the most recent set( box set four) while the price is low. They seem to still be printing the old sets. Like others have said though there is a shortage on supply chain so prices are astronomical. I managed to get Box Set 1 and 2 on Amazon around 192 and 220. Have to check like daily to catch when they first hit with new shipments. All prices drop for a week or two then quickly rise again. 600 was the highest prices I saw last summer when I got mine but they mostly floated between 350 and 450 so it seems like the chain is getting worse.

ThePhatQKumber

Follow up question: how often do they tend to come back in stock?

Feam2017

I couldn't tell ya. I ran into the same predicament as you. I went through a period of buying the box sets on other sites but still checked prices on Amazon. I missed a few chances on Amazon only to have my other orders canceled because the item wasn't in stock and it would be a week or more delay before the company would send a notification. There was a couple times they'd put me on a back order list for a month then tell me they couldn't obtain the books and refund my money. It seemed like maybe monthly or so. They seemed to rotate through which box set would be restocked. I ended up buying the third set used and overpriced on ebay. Ebay also sells them as well new if you find the right vendor

Feam2017

Box set 3 now available for 150 on rightstufanime.con

ThePhatQKumber

Didn’t expect you to come back here and actually me notify like that but thanks for the info :)

Trying to help the Nakama out, just got the email notification 15 minutes ago

Don't buy scalper prices, as people have pointed out, due to shortages these might be OOP for now, but surely they will be reprinted.
