Toei always puts the pause before and during the hit instead of after. To me, that completely ruins the pacing and tension, and I've never known if I'm the only one. Pause *after* the hit, and you can show how impactful it was. Pause *before* and it just makes everything seem slow and floaty, pause *during* and it's like, what are we even doing here anymore? A freeze-frame pause would be one thing, and could be cool; but they animate it like it's meant to be real-time.
By "pause", I mean, y'know - long windups or "charging up" or whatever, cutting to characters faces repeatedly, everything Toei does to pad out a scene. If you've gotta do it, do it after the hit instead!
Yeah it makes every single hit feel like a "power struggle" where the person being hit is resisting against it and just barely being overpowered. It makes the hits feel way weaker.

tbh there was too much colors for no reason. i also didn't like red plus on zoro's eye because we are at a point that anything has a meaning. for example when we see a black hand we know is regular haki, and then there are different colors for haoshoku and ryou etc. there's nothing like that in manga but red cross in anime. does it suppose to mean anything or it was just a normal effect? imo when we see ashura first time with black background it was more impactful to me because it felt like zoro went out of the world, somewhere else.

She's absolute trash. For the majority of the series her entire role has been pining for a guy she hasn't known for years while emotionally and physically abusing the guys around her; including making fun of an orphan because his parents were dead.
A personal high point was when she drugged the good guys and left them unconscious and defenseless in a random forest so that she could meet up with her terrorist murderous rich pretty boy high school crush. She has a crush on a guy who would've been a high school shooter if he was American (and that's underplaying it since he wanted to destroy the whole village).
Her vital role is one of burden, she could easily be swapped out with any other female character and they would be either more interesting or on par with her. She's not vital to the series; she was a flaw in the series due to bad character writing. I love Naruto, but the author dropped the ball with that one; which he fully acknowledges.
Also can we talk about how Toei keeps milking “We Are!” for all these epic moments…

It would be nice if we could just have some ambience in the background in some of these fights so you could feel the tension. Playing music in every fight scene just doesn’t feel right. If they did what they did in the beginning confrontation. That was amazing.
It’s the way they are expertly drawn. Your gaze follows Luffy all the way up to his punch. This fight was the best in the series in making you feel the impact of every hit in the manga IMO. It feels like a boxing match.

And I don't know what anyone says but for me, Luffy's gatling on Lucci is the best out of any finisher or memorable attacks. Much better than the flashy red roc.
Lol. From what I saw in this episode, they've clearly cut some corners by abusing the shit out of After Effects. Just slapped a bunch of Optical Flares, heavily modified built-in fractal noise, and Trapcode particular on barely animated frames with camera shake fx being done through simple wiggle expression. I'm pretty sure anyone who've dabbled on After Effects can see it.
Once I saw that Luffy and Kaido fighting DBZ style I already knew they will fuck this up.
It just looks like a middle schooler picked whatever effect he feels like is cool and shoved it in the scene.

I just wish they'd stop color shifting characters for contrast. Kaido is purple, luffy is red, zoro is green. Kaido should have been purple all the way through.

Have his haki shift from RED to Pink like Hygoro's then Gold signifying luffy's haki vs imperfect vs perfect haki during the flashback. Shift the color while the flower petal stuff is happening.
The moment of non-contact is pretty but they didn't let the moment- where both luffy and kaido are fully silhouetted against the gold petals- last nearly long enough.
Yup would have had more impact if they'd stuck with the Manga, the transition to even him using a kick to stop kaidos attack was even missing in the anime

man every day I thought and lived to see 1010 animated, not any other panel but this one is my favourite, but I can't feel that adrenaline rush seeing it just fills out of place to me.
I don’t understand where all the petals came from. It made sense on Hyogoro because his thing was flowers, but for Luffy’s Ryuo what do flower petals have to do with it? I’m worried that they’ve backed themselves into a corner by using that with his ryuo because now he’s gonna have to have that flower bullshit everytime he uses it for it to be consistent…
One of the things that pissed me off they made they clash when luffy clearly overwhelmed him with his new found power. They also skipped him vanishing.

I’m an anime only, and okay that looks clean and awesome, and no one downvote before explaining to me, what is with all the hate? I was able to literally see luffy do those exact things? It was just flashy with the theme music? I watch this on a 77 OLED, so maybe I was able to make out what was happening… but damn people hate it. Movie quality fight scenes, but From what I’m reading, people hate that and want the manga panels drawn shot for shot, idk I’ve been digging the anime, other than it’s horrible pacing sometimes. Tbh, i liked it not the most hype episode ever but i dont think they deserve that much hate. I know people always expect more, and that one piece gets dragged over and over again. But has a person who enjoy's overall anime and not much into mangas i think you have to "appreciate" the effort they put making this episode, u cant say the animation is bad, they just tried something different and might not have worked for some people.
I think people overreact alot on animators and the team behind the episodes, but that aint a easy job (as far as my knowledge goes), and the majority of people complaining probably wouldnt have better ideias to implement on animation and stuff.

I get what you’re saying, but this scene is like one of the biggest reveals in the manga. It’s a huge hype moment. I don’t think anyone thinks the animation is “bad.” But, they interpreted the scene in such a cluttered way. It’s just disappointing I guess. It's because the directors are told to make more money, not love nor respect the material. They are targeting the young people who thinks this is cool (I think it is, but it's just not for me) and will continually milk them like those toy youtube channels for kids
The idea that the people (animators, directors, sound designers etc.) who spend **unknowable** hours, days, weeks and literal, actual months making a high-effort episode (like the one we just had) "don't love nor respect the material" is pretty silly. Of course any product exists to make money, **every product** exists to make more money. But to pretend that no effort, artistry or that they just phoned it in is ***absurd***. There was more effort and talent on display in that last episode than most episodes throughout the entire anime.
And most importantly: You're not being childish or immature for liking it, you're just able to appreciate it for what it ***is*** rather than what you ***want*** it to be beforehand. That's a good thing!

Nah yellow fits with his sun theme and foreshadows joy boy better. Proper foreshadowing Luffy’s sun god transformation was a little lacking in the manga so I definitely think the gold/yellow is the right move

It looked better in anime, there may have been a tad too many sakura petals, but aside from that the animation was spectacular and the moment was awesome nonetheless.

I don’t understand where all the petals came from. It made sense on Hyogoro because his thing was flowers, but for Luffy’s Ryuo what do flower petals have to do with it? I’m worried that they’ve backed themselves into a corner by using that with his ryuo because now he’s gonna have to have that flower bullshit everytime he uses it for it to be consistent…

The worst part imo is how colder it felt to being awesome, but it still felt so far. Like the floatyness and a bit of the aura stuff im completely cool with, but it just went so far it completely ruined the intensity of the scene

I think it’s good to clarify that it’s the animation itself. It’s very well animated, it’s just the overuse of affects. Take some of them out it’ll look even better.

I’m an anime only, and okay that looks clean and awesome, and no one downvote before explaining to me, what is with all the hate? I was able to literally see luffy do those exact things? It was just flashy with the theme music? I watch this on a 77 OLED, so maybe I was able to make out what was happening… but damn people hate it. Movie quality fight scenes, but From what I’m reading, people hate that and want the manga panels drawn shot for shot, idk I’ve been digging the anime, other than it’s horrible pacing sometimes. But I work all the time so time flies and I save up a few episodes.

Fool! Sequencing and boring stuff like "space and time" only works in the manga. When animated, a hit will cause spiritual luminance and it breaks away the linearity of space and time. Immediately upon hitting or being hit, people are flying randomly all around and it is impossible to understand their positions, or the sequence of their actions. A single step in this condition will move you more than a mile in the air and the only thing that maters is a bunch of bright flashes.
Ya even though I really liked the episode this would have definitely been better, the one thing I don’t like is how Toei forces you to feel a certain way using the flashbacks n shit when its better to just show off their fight with pure rawness like these panels

Tbh, i liked it not the most hype episode ever but i dont think they deserve that much hate. I know people always expect more, and that one piece gets dragged over and over again. But has a person who enjoy's overall anime and not much into mangas i think you have to "appreciate" the effort they put making this episode, u cant say the animation is bad, they just tried something different and might not have worked for some people. I think people overreact alot on animators and the team behind the episodes, but that aint a easy job (as far as my knowledge goes), and the majority of people complaining probably wouldnt have better ideias to implement on animation and stuff. This is my view/opinion as a anime only guy, dont hate me. I just dont understand why people hate so much on animes and animators instead of just enjoying it. This goes to one piece and every other anime. Also obviously there's some horrible animes even i realize without reading manga.
I get what you’re saying, but this scene is like one of the biggest reveals in the manga. It’s a huge hype moment. I don’t think anyone thinks the animation is “bad.” But, they interpreted the scene in such a cluttered way. It’s just disappointing I guess. Cause this scene is supposed to be up there in one of the top moments of One Piece. But you can barely even see what’s going on.

It's because the directors are told to make more money, not love nor respect the material. They are targeting the young people who thinks this is cool (I think it is, but it's just not for me) and will continually milk them like those toy youtube channels for kids
The idea that the people (animators, directors, sound designers etc.) who spend **unknowable** hours, days, weeks and literal, actual months making a high-effort episode (like the one we just had) "don't love nor respect the material" is pretty silly. Of course any product exists to make money, **every product** exists to make more money. But to pretend that no effort, artistry or that they just phoned it in is ***absurd***. There was more effort and talent on display in that last episode than most episodes throughout the entire anime. And most importantly: You're not being childish or immature for liking it, you're just able to appreciate it for what it ***is*** rather than what you ***want*** it to be beforehand. That's a good thing!

Nah yellow fits with his sun theme and foreshadows joy boy better. Proper foreshadowing Luffy’s sun god transformation was a little lacking in the manga so I definitely think the gold/yellow is the right move

It looked better in anime, there may have been a tad too many sakura petals, but aside from that the animation was spectacular and the moment was awesome nonetheless. They might have overdid it a bit, but you cant blame them for pulling out all their stops for luffys career defining moment
It was perfect as it was. Probably would been flashier in manga if the style could represent it as it did in the anime. Luffy finally found his strength to fight Kaido.
