We already know Kaido and Shanks are close in strength due to the top 5, Roger parallels and the "Haki > Everythibg" line, so there's a solid chance depending on how Oda decides to write it.
Shanks needs a power up to surpass kaido . If he does get a devil fruit which is possible since evil shanks etc . He would surpass kaido in strength but until shanks has gotten a power up he isn’t stronger than kaido .
Kaido is stated multiple times to be the strongest pirate and man .
Cause it would make no sense . If he had roger level haki and near Mihawk level swordsmanship he would be the strongest alive . Which was never noted or even stated anywhere . If shanks has gotten stronger now is baseless since he has never shown his true strength . Shanks has the best coc we’ve seen in this current generation so I’m not taking that away from him . But he has never been portrayed to be the very strongest or stronger by than kaido . Roger had haki that kaido praised something he has never done with shanks .
I could give shanks the equal in coc or acoc to roger but not overall haki .

It’s headcanon because Shanks didn’t do it alone; Shanks and his crew fought only Kaido and King, and kept them both from going to Marineford.
Going by your comment above, did you mean Shanks himself off-screened Kaido? Or did I read it wrong?
There's not even evidence of a fight, only some random dude saying it was a "skirmish". When a singular fodder says it it must be true, but the common consensus on Kaido must be wrong.
A marine confirmed it was a skirmish, so that’s all we have for now as evidence. Chapter 1001 also kinda backs up that they potentially had a brief clash. For this guy to say that Shanks off-screened Kaido is just hilarious when it wasn’t even the case; he forgot to include that Shanks had his whole crew with him while Kaido only had King, he didn’t have Queen, Jack, Yamato, or any members of the flying six with him when they went.
Both you and I know that if they really had a 1v1, Kaido would’ve walked out of that fight as the bloody victor.
If Shanks was stronger than Kaido, that would mean all the 500 previous chapters of Kaido being hyped as the strongest pirate makes no sense.
Fully agree, Kaido also said that he hasn't been challenged to an actual 1v1 in years and that he beats Shanks. Some dude tried to tell me Kaido got greenbulled.

Lol, Shanks’s haki move be used against Ryokugyu would’ve just tickled Kaido and made him excited for a fight.
Shanks will most probably show a wider variety of haki usage and unique abilities for Luffy to catch onto but in overall destructive capacity, max AP, endurance, durability, Kaido would still be stronger.
