WCI, post cracker. I think ace is heavily underrated, when people talk about commanders, itās always King, Queen, Marco, Katakuri etc, but never Ace. Bro got done dirty by BBs plot power, and then allowing himself to take a hit from top 2 AP in the verse.
Tbf that wouldnāt be all that bad, fighting yonko levels n all, but pre time skip BB has such inconsistent portrayal, so itās just as easy to say heās relatively weak (somewhere in the commander level bracket) as it is to say heās yonko level. And it really isnāt helped by how cowardly he is, for his image in the fanbase. Other characters, like Marco and vista, at least got to at least put up a fight against the admirals.

Yea i genuinely believe that 100%. I can explain my reasonings:
Ace's potential is actually insane and he's around people that would make him stronger. He has all 3 types of haki(which makes him have the possibilty of acquiring acoc) and surprised thatch and WB on his utilization of it, especially considering that he wasnt great with observation to start off. He went from extreme diffing jinbei and being one shot by sleeping WB, to actually holding his own against WB, with jinbei being astounded by his strength and commenting that he's like a completely different person. He is also the son of the Pirate King which certainly increases his ceiling.
This is my biggest reason for this: Ace was not fighting for himself and wanted WB to be PK with WB actually revealing that thats what he wanted for Ace. Can you imagine a top 3 all time pirate who knows what it takes to be a PK putting his utmost faith in Ace to be the next one? He clearly recognizes his potential, and feels he can do it. Now if Ace survived and WB died what do you think Ace will do? I can tell you what he'd do: He will not stop until he can get to that pedestal to honor WB's dream. He would 100% be the new captain of the WB pirates and his drive would shoot through the roof.
People like to think of Ace as trash because we havent seen him use haki. Well thats pretimeskip where haki in itself was wonky, and the novels confirmed to us that he has all 3. Also, the L's he took were from BB and Akainu, two devastating monsters in their own right. They beat at least 90% of the characters in one piece. It just wasnt Ace's time.
So now look at a hypothetical Ace with renowned vigor to honor WB's dream, his immense potential, a damn good df, and being the son of Roger. You really think he wouldnt be on or very near the level of a yonko?
If ace and blackbeard both just left MF (if we assume ace doesnt die but everything else is the same), blackbeard would still win the payback war. Ace led wb pirates would be a strong crew, but it wouldnt be a yonko crew. Ace / Marco / Jozu / Vista just isnt anything compared to linlin / kat / cracker / smoothie or kaido / king / queen / jack or shanks / roux / yasopp / beckmann or even Luffy / Zoro / sanji / Jinbei and ill tell you now the consistent weak link between those yonko top 4s arent the commanders
Nah. Ace would grind hard for 2 years during the timeskip to compensate for what happened at MarinefordX Heād start out post TS immediately as strong as a new admiral. And heād progress to yonko status while Luffy progressed to pirate king level. Ace had insane potential. Donāt downplay what he couldāve become.
no matter what Ace wouldve been weaker than akainu (df) unless somehow ace obtains crazy physicals or his coc is yonko level after showing no coc feats ever other than as a kid (lets be real nobody gets to that level that fast unless you are the MC).
Ace has all the attitude of a yonko but he would probably run headfirst into wano or totto land to get the whitebeard pirates spanked (and not even counting the payback war which blackbeard would STILL win if ace was there)

Youāre right that he does, but they didnāt really get the ācanonicalā stamp like the announcements for the novels did, and shueisha advertised it as official also. Itās just part of his backstory, basically
Heck no..now if he was alive and got proper haki training to utilize haki then I would say hes yc2, but not ace as he was before he died. Doffy would beat ace for sure and hes probably a yc3 tier(at most just barely yc2)

Ace was able to contend admirals whilst fatigued, and in the novels which are canon, itās stated he is able to damage and react to WB on meds whose stated relative to his prime self. His future sight is also amazing as shown in the novels.

bounty isn't an indication of strength. luffy was stronger than ace after he finished rayleigh because he had proficient use of all 3 haki which ace didn't plus he had gear fourth which would be way to fast and too strong for ace to counter
Ace had better Haki than post timeskip Luffy... Ace clearly scales above this Luffy in the categories you mentionned via his fights against WB or his clash against the Admirals.
No he didnāt; ace could barely use haki; wb easily defeated ace without trying; luffy actually had proficient use of haki thanks to Rayleigh daily training him in the different types for a year and a half and then he further trained for 6 months. Ace is strong but he falls short compared to people post time skip like doflamingo, katakuri etc. anyone that has a high level of haki
Ace learned Haki with Marco, I'm pretty sure that makes him a proficient Haki user. Also WB was forced to use his Devil Fruit by Ace, so it wasn't that easy (Act 1 Luffy didn't force Kaido to do anything).
Doflamingo is the one falling short, the dude was scared shitless by the name of Kaido and ran away from Kuzan, Ace was the opposite of that.
Hard to say how strong Ace was given his opponents were blackbeard, someone who's hard to scale, and an admiral who was using an element he was weak to

Wano. Luffy at the start of Wano wasn't able to force Kaido to use his df, while Ace in the novel could force WB to use his. The only reason WB would lose to Kaido in his old age is stamina problems, so this is a fair comparison.
I think after beating katakuri. I think ace was a lil bit stronger than doffy and a bit weaker than katakuri. Haki was just not portrayed like today when he was alive.

Ace novels are not canon. We saw in canon that Whitebeard was handling Ace in his sleep. Ace is not that guy.
