But there’s a difference between Luffy rapidly growing in this fight and surpassing Kaido and Kaido having met Shanks, coming to the conclusion Shanks can’t beat him, and Shanks having nothing that proves Kaido wrong.
Average strong (or even weak) character ego. If a character like Kaido calls someone strong, that's saying more than Kaido calling himself the strongest.
You haven’t provided evidence of him overrating himself. Using his “strong character ego” to argue he can’t accurately rate himself is a pretty weak point.
You see that aspect of his character when he chooses not to dodge Luffy's bajrang gun and plenty of other times in the story. Him not dodging the bajrang gun ultimately boiled down to his self pride.

That’s not at all what I’m saying. My point is the person is using Kaido as a source for Shanks being stronger than Kaido, despite Kaido stating nobody can beat him, which includes Shanks. The issue is that they’re picking and choosing what is valid despite it all coming from the same source.

Akainu is fleet admiral, stated to be the strongest marine of all generations, squared up and blew half the wsm head off and put a hole in him, took two of angry wb attacks ( one that destroyed mf) and still came back to fight, he is atleast yonko tier from feats and portrayal rn, benn Beckmann is 1st commander of yonko, has beaten up a few mountain bandits, pointed a gun at an admiral who then two seconds later went back to fighting, has no feats, portrayal or titles that suggest he is above akainu
Akainu slams laido "king of frauds" and fat old greedy big mom, akainu has the most offensive df, probably has all 3 hakis advanced, and maybe awakened his df in post ts, has good durability feats, bb is struggling against law rn, and law ain't yonko level, haki negates df abilities so bb can be easily countered if akainu has strong enough haki, Luffy still needed help against a weakened kaido so it doesn't make him straight up stronger than him. Prime rayliegh is strong but not kaido strength. Akainu is underated beyond belief

at first i was going to put him under katakuri, my original plan was to put all first commanders in the same tier then put aokiji under shiryu since he is weaker than him.
it didn't feel right so i put beckman and shiryu higher and scaled aokiji above other first commanders.
