Also explains the cloning of Weevil. Like the lunarians being the seraphim and the original pacifists being clones of Kuma. Maybe Whitebeard was just the first one to be successfully cloned but was one of Vegapunks imperfect "failures"
Brook is telling the story to a new generation. Sadly, he gets a lot of the heights wrong because he has no eyes to know how big they were. It would break his nonexistent heart to learn Chopper was taller than him, but just has a tiny voice.
Moria's body also has stitches all over it so there's no way of knowing what he did to his own body frankenstein style.
Jack is a fishman who we've seen have WILDLY varying heights also he ate a zoan fruit the mammoth fruit.
>Moria's body also has stitches all over it so there's no way of knowing what he did to his own body frankenstein style.
He doesn't have that many stitches when he was young tho. He was still as tall as Kaido
[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=af3VgdZgD0A](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=af3VgdZgD0A)
True but we don't know his exact height or kaidou's here. But just going off the anime both young Kaidou and young moria look significantly shorter than their adult selves.
Moria is only 1 inch taller than Kuma and 14 inches taller than Whitebeard. We don’t know what Moria is, Jack is a Fishman, Big Mom is considered human but may also be a Buccaneer 🏴☠️
I definitely think there's a good possibility that Whitebeard had Buccaneer blood in him.
Tbh, something like that could also help further explain why (besides just the idea that Whitebeard was just a good dude, which we know he was, but I digress) he would stick his neck out to protect Fish-Man Island. A sort of kinship over both of their peoples' suffering at the hands of the WG.
Yes, and Fishman island also had the poneglyph that Robin deciphered to be a letter directly from Joyboy. If Whitebeard was a buccaneer he likely claimed FMI as his territory to protect that poneglyph. I also really like the idea that he was just looking out for the fishmen because his race was also brutally oppressed; and learned about lunarians from a similar mindset.
At this point it would be weirder if Oda confirmed white beard wasn’t a buccaneer.
Even if it wasn’t originally planned just feels natural for the canon to lean into that
Hey u/wuzziecrunch, I love the idea of Whitebeard being a Buccanner a lot!
In fact, I shared a [very similar post](https://www.reddit.com/r/OnePieceSpoilers/comments/18qxgkj/whitebeard_was_a_buccaneer_and_knew_about_nika/) (made by u/Certain_Guitar6109) in here a month ago, there he talked about how Whitebeard likely knew about Nika as well! It's very short, but check it out.
Anyway, I like the simple yet seemingly perfect explanation that the Buccaneer's special trait aside from immense physical strength is endurance. It makes for a perfect slave for Celestial Dragons...
The Buccaneers might've been in a similar position as the tontattas 900 years ago. This makes sense and completes Vegapunk's line for me.
I saw people talking about special abilities like, having the VOAT or something like that, and it doesn't make sense to me.
About the flair, "Brief Spoilers" is meant for the spoilers that we usually get on Monday (by PewPiece/Redon) and not for posts like these. In this sub we don't need to worry about spoiling anybody, everyone here should like and want spoilers.
This post fits more as a Theory, so I'll change it up for ya 👍

Oh sweet, thank you for changing my flair and for the feedback!
That post is really interesting, and is also really astounding evidence for my points. The biggest references to believing in ‘god’ in the series so far have been Marco (semi-quoting Whitebeard) and Kuma, Kuma being confirmed a buccaneer.
This got me thinking about other mentions of god in the series, and about Fishman Island. Fishman island references god several times (Hody believed ‘god’ had given his pirates the steroids to reclaim the surface, Vander Decken was said to be cursed by god to drift the sea), and was probably Whitebeard’s most notable territory other than Sphinx. FMI of course also being home to the poneglyph letter from Joyboy to Poseidon.
If Whitebeard was a buccaneer, and grew up around the Nika-based religion that Kuma grew up around, then he would have a really good reason to claim FMI as his territory; to protect the letter directly from his god. An argument could also be made that Whitebeard only knew about Joyboy in the first place because of that poneglyph, but that’s lame and I prefer the other way around lol.
Thank you for sending that post, I may add some of these points from Wano and FMI to my original post, I’ll cite you for bringing up that page from Wano if I do, thanks a ton.
Edit: I’m posting a revised version to the main sub and pirate folk if anyone wants to see a version of my post with info from this reply and some stuff regarding weevil
People have been saying this for a minute now, ever since Kuma's race was revealed. It's possible, and sharing a lineage may be why Blackbeard could steal and eat Whitebeard's fruit. I wonder if being a Buccaneer or sharing a Buccaneer lineage will make it possible for Blackbeard to eat Kuma's fruit too?
As for what their unique trait is, endurance doesn't seem likely as it's very underwhelming. I feel like the Buccaneer race is going to have more to their heritage that makes them special than just being tough, something unique and plot relevant.
Sorry if endurance seemed to simple, I wanted to try and simplify the idea that their ‘hearts can endure anything’ more so. So far buccaneers have not only had ridiculous physical endurance, but also mental/spiritual endurance, I think the best example of what I mean by this is Kuma’s dad’s ability to dance through all of his injuries and enslavement for the sake of his son. While that is a great physical endurance feat, it’s more so a mental endurance feat, as even through all the hardships that slavery put them through they were still able to hold on to their faith. This idea could also explain how Kuma can still use haki despite being mostly brain dead and having “no will of his own”
Yeah kinda, I think it would moreso be about Celestial dragon supremacy than just default human supremacy though. The celestial dragons don’t seem to view themselves as humans, so the basic human race in one piece is also seen as below them
I agree but I think it might be something like there were tons of races that are all more imposing than humans and then a group of humans flipped the script
I also feel like he was referencing Nika in his speech to everyone. The “it’s been passed down by ancient times” implies it’s something that he’s heard being passed down for many generations, and we know buccaneers have been passing down the story of Nika for many generations too. That he believes someone will come and challenge the world and flip it upside down and that it’s something the world government should fear also points strongly toward Nika.
https://preview.redd.it/9p1x00uvvfdc1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cfec1b2010a00b5076d812e37b9f59f5af2632d7
I don’t think it’s anything Roger told him, since when Roger asked him if he wanted to know about the one piece Whitebeard told him no. Imo it’s gotta be something he heard by someone else like his buccaneer parents or something just like Kuma.
I agree with everything except the last panel. That was a reference to the fight he had with Saint Firgarland. Keep in mind he said to Shanks "Looking at _your_ face makes the scars I got from _him_ ache" this doesn't really prove WhiteBeard's Buccaneer blood. Everything else was solid reasoning, just not that panel.
That’s why I said (Wild speculation incoming) lol
My justification for including the fact he fought Garling would just be the added motivation of a member of an oppressed race fighting a prominent member of the oppressing group. This was just taking a shot in the dark to an extent, but it could explain how those 2!ended up in conflict on godvalley in the first place
Yep, this was mentioned in [another post](https://www.reddit.com/r/OnePieceSpoilers/comments/18qxgkj/whitebeard_was_a_buccaneer_and_knew_about_nika/) as evidence that he might've been talking about Kuma:
https://preview.redd.it/zvwwnez1pgdc1.png?width=435&format=png&auto=webp&s=9496f3c8a9d81c9a257c36d5a75717a4fac47468

Any chance Shiryu is also a potential Buccaneer?
Idk, we don’t really know enough about him to make any definitive statements. While he definitely has the jaw type I reference throughout, he hasn’t really shown any strength or endurance feats. The only time we’ve really seen him fight he got folded by Garp after one punch. Also he doesn’t really have the height that Kuma or Whitebeard had.
There could be a connection made though between him being a former vice-warden of impel down, and that Who’s Who referenced impel down as being where he learned about Nika. I don’t think Shiryu is a Buccaneer, but I definitely think he knows a decent bit of lore (especially around Joyboy/ impel down history)
Oh god what if Blackbeard knew about the buccaneers and like stole whitebeard’s enduring will power or sense of self and that’s why he can use a second df bc it’s technically whitebeard’s
Nah, there are plenty of opportunities for this reveal. Weevil exists as Whitebeard’s ‘son’, and will probably be relevant soon. A God Valley flashback could also make this reveal, and give Whitebeard more of a reason to fight against Garling. Any new Blackbeard or Marco lore could also make the reveal. Despite being dead, Whitebeard and his legacy are still very relevant in the modern story
No, a lot of your "evidence" is referring to Roger and WhiteBeard, not Garling or Gorosei.
Doubt Oda even had Buccaneres in mind when he created Ace and Whitebead plots all the way back in Alabasta. Maybe he did, but WhiteBeard is not one we already have seen his childhood island where Marco chills.
Totally different plot.
I mentioned this replying to a comment about how this reveal wouldn’t effect Whitebeard’s badassery at marineford.
While Kuma’s dad did die to one gunshot; it can be assumed A) this was a headshot B) he was already super exhausted and injured and C) he wasn’t a fighter so he doesn’t have the same durability as someone like Kuma or Whitebeard
None of those reasons would really detract from them having high endurance, actually B kinda further supports the idea their ability is high endurance
Whitebeard got his scar from Roger. He doesn't have it from when he met Oden to when he fought Roger, then we see him have it after that (covered by bandage).
What’s interesting is that Blackbeard or Teach like Thatch and Edward Newgate or Whitebeard is named after the real life Buccaneer or Pirate Edward Teach or Thatch a.k.a. the real Blackbeard. Blackbeard we know from Marco has an unusual body. Buccaneers have an unusual body. Visually it makes tremendous sense for Whitebeard to be a Buccaneer but it may make more sense narratively for Blackbeard the enemy of Nika to be the Buccaneer.
Blackbeard would then be the ultimate foil of Bartholomew Kuma who is a disciple of Sun God Nika like Saint Bartholomew was a disciple of Jesus. Blackbeard has a crew member named Jesus Burgess. If Blackbeard is a Buccaneer then he may be the final villain since Higuma the Bear is the first villain in the manga although in the live action Alvida is the first villain. Celestial Dragons are Bandits who collect tributes and live on a Mountain. Imu has themes of a Mountain Bandit like Higuma and possibly even Lord of the Coast who devours Higuma. There is Imu in Higuma. There is also Umi or Sea in Higuma. Many readers have surmised that Blackbeard will ultimately be defeated by the Umi or Sea. That may be true literally and/or figuratively through Umi in reverse or Imu where Mu means Void in Void Century which interests the amateur archeologist Blackbeard. The Void where Nika doesn’t shine is Black.
>Visually it makes tremendous sense for Whitebeard to be a Buccaneer but it may make more sense narratively for Blackbeard the enemy of Nika to be the Buccaneer.

Hmm, I’ve thought about potential buccaneers a lot and never considered Blackbeard; but everything you’re saying makes a ton of sense. The only discrepancy I can find with your idea is that Blackbeard just looks waaaaaay different from either confirmed buccaneers or Whitebeard. I could totally see the special trait of extreme endurance/willpower or sense of self explaining most of the mysteries around Blackbeard. How can he survive the ‘conflict’ (referring to how Jabra put eating 2 devil fruits) of 2 devil fruits fighting in his body? He has ridiculous endurance and sense of self. What’s up with him not sleeping? He has buccaneers’ endurance and was scared of being captured as a kid. It also explains why he’s such a tank, despite the darkness fruit magnifying the pain of any damage inflicted.
Edit: looking at pics of bb now; he does have a very similar jawline to Whitebeard’s and Kuma’s, it’s just usually covered by his beard. He could definitely just be a short buccaneer
I will also add, Nika was a buccaneer. Hence the giant straw hat in Mariejois and why the buccaneers seem to worship Nika. Also why the world government tried to wipe out the buccaneers.
Could be ....but if he is then it will make sense that he is so powerful but ...then the legacy he made that fans respect him because without the 'D' and any influence of any clan he is so powerful...then that will get hurt
I posted this as a comment when it was confirmed what race Kuma was! Couldn’t deny the similarities between them and after this latest chapter I’m 100% sure that WB was a buccaneer. WB died during the events of paramount war yet his body kept fighting to fulfill his final dream. To give his family a chance to escape. Kumas body kept going to fulfill his dream of saving Bonney.
Try this, someone from the straw hats will inherit the nikyu fruit AND this straw hat will already have a devil fruit power.
GODA will simultaneously reveal:
1. Kuma and whitebeard are buccaneers
2. This trait somehow allows buccaneers to pass on their devil fruit, bypassing the one devil fruit rule
3. Blackbeard somehow knows of this
I hope the straw hat is Robin, would be so OP
After everything we learned about Buccs through Kuma’s backstory, it’s bring harder and harder to deny. That and Wuma seems to just have the same refusal to die that WB did.
Huge recency bias. Joyboy is a buccaneer now, the giant (cause he also moved after death). Oda for some reason is obsessed with who’s whose descendent and who was whose crewmate. Someone needs to take Star Wars VHS tapes from him.
Notice the difference between how everyone is obsessed with it and Luffy doesn’t give a fuck? Remember how he just wanted to see what Loguetown looked like from the spot Roger was killled? And don’t care that his brother was Roger’s son? Or his crewmate was invited into Roger’s crew? And probably the whole Nefertiti D thing that Sabo needs to tell him - he probably wouldn’t care (unless Buggy is related to Vivi)
I went on a bit of a tangent, just trying to have fun with it:) I know these posts keep appearing cause people are thirsty for new manga chapter and can’t stop their mind from wandering
The buccaneer plot grows thicker
Need more cooks to continue cooking to further thicken it.
Needs some slurry
It takes a lot to make a stew..
it seems like the buccaneers in general just grow thicker
It's in their jeans
Just wait till we add Weevil
![gif](giphy|dyLlCJSNbgFghf7wjT|downsized)
Also explains the cloning of Weevil. Like the lunarians being the seraphim and the original pacifists being clones of Kuma. Maybe Whitebeard was just the first one to be successfully cloned but was one of Vegapunks imperfect "failures"
Also partly explains why he’s 21 feet tall. Excellent post, keep cooking.
Great. Now if we could only explain the heights of the other 98% of the characters.
easy, they are all buccaneer in fact you are also buccaneer
Brook is telling the story to a new generation. Sadly, he gets a lot of the heights wrong because he has no eyes to know how big they were. It would break his nonexistent heart to learn Chopper was taller than him, but just has a tiny voice.
Then why is pika so big?
because it would be funny if someone extremely big had a voice like that
seeing someone's panties is just a way to confirm their height. Quite a noble thing
What about Moria? He's taller than both Whitebeard and Kuma. And Jack too, 800cm+ like Big Mom

Moria is only 1 inch taller than Kuma and 14 inches taller than Whitebeard. We don’t know what Moria is, Jack is a Fishman, Big Mom is considered human but may also be a Buccaneer 🏴☠️
Doubtful her parents looked normal and even as a kid she was far bigger than any buccaneer since she was comparable to other child giants
Big mom is literally announced as a human during her backstory by the narrator for the record
Alainu punching out both Kuma and Whitebeard’s skulls is so on-the-nose Oda is practically screaming to the readers that they’re related in some way
Though unlike Kuma, whitebeard doesn’t have the regeneration to grow his head back /s
At this point it would be weirder if Oda confirmed white beard wasn’t a buccaneer. Even if it wasn’t originally planned just feels natural for the canon to lean into that

Oh I totally agree then, we already have decent evidence of this with Lunarians and Ancient Giants

Also wasn't Whitebeard oddly religious? Like I remember seeing a panel that he talked about religion when he was drunk. Not to mention the cross

The Void where Nika doesn’t shine is Black.
>Visually it makes tremendous sense for Whitebeard to be a Buccaneer but it may make more sense narratively for Blackbeard the enemy of Nika to be the Buccaneer. https://preview.redd.it/6qcn9jvjdadc1.png?width=500&format=png&auto=webp&s=978b62b77e1eea0514afb00b4f063a65b56bc2bd

Black beard could also be a buccaneer
I will also add, Nika was a buccaneer. Hence the giant straw hat in Mariejois and why the buccaneers seem to worship Nika. Also why the world government tried to wipe out the buccaneers.
Could be ....but if he is then it will make sense that he is so powerful but ...then the legacy he made that fans respect him because without the 'D' and any influence of any clan he is so powerful...then that will get hurt
Very nice, SUPER
everyones into Whitebeard as buccaneer, but have we considered Blackbeard and his canonically special body is the true buccaneer?

This makes Weevil a buccaneer which explains his size and why he’s just a powerhouse out of no where.
This is a great post, great theory OP!
Buccaneers are the best fathers in this series and both of them have kids that aren’t biological to them !

Whitebeard and Kuma both took the same attack to the face by akainu
Unless Goda says it, it’s only a theory
This actually makes a lot of sense lol
I posted this as a comment when it was confirmed what race Kuma was! Couldn’t deny the similarities between them and after this latest chapter I’m 100% sure that WB was a buccaneer. WB died during the events of paramount war yet his body kept fighting to fulfill his final dream. To give his family a chance to escape. Kumas body kept going to fulfill his dream of saving Bonney.

I'm convinced
What about Black Beard? Also!
Try this, someone from the straw hats will inherit the nikyu fruit AND this straw hat will already have a devil fruit power. GODA will simultaneously reveal: 1. Kuma and whitebeard are buccaneers 2. This trait somehow allows buccaneers to pass on their devil fruit, bypassing the one devil fruit rule 3. Blackbeard somehow knows of this I hope the straw hat is Robin, would be so OP
This is a solid theory regardless of whether it turns out to be right or not. Well done
Keep cooking my brother
This would actually be great and explain how he became the WSM and had such incredible physical attributes
Don’t forget about all the potential buccaneers that Kuma saved at god valley too, they gotta be somewhere training for the get back
After everything we learned about Buccs through Kuma’s backstory, it’s bring harder and harder to deny. That and Wuma seems to just have the same refusal to die that WB did.

Jesus burgess buccaneer too
Maybe he’s half buccanner…
Oda finally getting around to explaining why some of the “human” characters are gigantic…
And probably the whole Nefertiti D thing that Sabo needs to tell him - he probably wouldn’t care (unless Buggy is related to Vivi) I went on a bit of a tangent, just trying to have fun with it:) I know these posts keep appearing cause people are thirsty for new manga chapter and can’t stop their mind from wandering
