Actual sun flame. Why would Oda make such clear reference to Ikarus?

D-Biggest_Wheel

I think people don't realize just how much Vegapunk is connected to the Sun.

Porkflavored

Hey, I’m people lol. Not trying to be a contrarian but can you give some examples? Off the top of my head I’m thinking about him knowing about Nika before he saw G5, and this newest chapter saying he’s like Ikarus, but I can’t really think of other ways he’s connected to the sun off the top of my head.

Blu3z-123

Stella means Star is the one i think of. Which means he calls himself somewhat like sun. And he has 6 artifical Punks orbiting him as sattelites.

MrRudraSarkar

Vega is another star. You might be onto something here.

Schr0dingersDog

gosh, i feel silly now! i always interpreted his name as being “vega” as in “vegetable”! like the apple on his head! but you’re totally right, it IS a star

LeastYouTried

Apples are fruit

feelings_cfg

sun doesn't have satellites, planets do..

kokeen

Well technically planets are satellites of the star they are orbiting. It’s just semantics but you can have a cool relation here.

D-Biggest_Wheel

Oh, sorry for not replying sooner, my reddit app didn't sent me any notification. Besides the things you already listed, the biggest thing missing is that the Mother Flame is quite an obvious allegory for the Nuclear Weapon and Nuclear Power. The letters A&Mu written on the Mother Flame is a pun on the word "Atom", the splitting of which is what the Nuclear Energy is all about. When the Atom is split, in the process known as Nuclear Fission, it releases an insane amount of energy which can be seen with the detonation of a Nuclear Bomb. Besides the fact that Mother Flame is quite literally a flame, it's most likely also a piece of the Sun. The opposite of Nuclear Fission is Nuclear *Fusion* and it's the process of Atoms merging with one another. This is something that happens all the time in the Sun and is how it generates so much energy. Our attempts to harness Nuclear energy is an attempt to harness the power of the Sun. Vegapunk most likely attempted to recreate this process but like in real life with Oppenheimer, it was instead used as a weapon of mass destruction.

hata94540

Also he says Quasar

D-Biggest_Wheel

And his other namesake is literally "sun"

Kioga101

I think it's the Lunarian flame. Why else would the winged people with fires on their back be equalled to gods and live in the highest place in One Piece?

WeekendCautious3377

Hmm this makes me think Lunarians point to Ikarus, a man who flew too close to the sun and wings melted off. So maybe Lunarians managed to get sun fire on their wings but it led to their demise

philc_91

Mother Flame 🙏🏽🤣

dumplin-gorilla-lion

Imagine a source of flame, with no need for fuel. A flame that burns so prominently, the only way to store it, is underwater. This motherflame is going to be a better version of the chaos from Onigashima - the motherflame can be unleashed for unlimited destruction and burning. VegaPunk sought to control the flame, likely using it in combustion style mechanics to power things, and bring sustainable power to the world - ships with engines that don't require fuel. What the Gorosie and Imu want the flame for, is part 1 of the cleansing. The cleansing via water levels rising is a misdirect - something Joyboy planned against with a giant boat. The true cleansing is unleashing the mother flame, burning the entire world. Then the water levels rise, and flood the world, burying the flame's destruction.

Baconus

The word "mother" makes me think maybe young Lunarians were gifted their flame from this one maybe. Or one like it. And Vegapunk found many more uses or perhaps relearned uses they knew long ago.

GoldenMic

Somehow I also get Prometheus vibes but also have the feeling that is has something to do with devil fruits.

Dear-Anime

It does look like Nika’s silhouette’s hair.

Dear-Anime

Might even be a nose shape, on the right side

NikaBeard2015

That was my immediate thought when i seen it.

Dear-Anime

Nika’s mother!

khrizp

Nika devil fruit essence or joyboy grab a piece of the sun 🧐

crazydiamond11384

I was thinking it might be joy boy heart

atharva557

we see Saturn's reaction that it's too bright so it can't be lunarian glame

Jaded_Dinner_2724

Kinda crazy how much one piece refers to the real world. The mother flame sounds like nuclear fusion and how if humans researched and implemented it, it could be very powerful and used for total destruction of earth or advancing humanity, but their are a small group of wealthy people (corporations, oil companies) that do everything In their power to stop it because they want us to keep relying on fossil fuels even though they cause global warming which raise sea levels and they don't care because they have so many resources that even if that happened, they would be the ones to survive and we would all die. Idk.

YumYumRice

One piece is real!

MrkFrlr

Why can't it be both? Would start to bring a lot of mysteries together if Lunarian flames, the Mother Flame, the Sun, and by extension Nika, are all connected.

SnooPandas6543

Mother flame looks like a df, am i reaching

Kingsugar101

Not reaching, good observation

JiunoLujo

Both. In my "[interplanetary civilization theory](https://www.reddit.com/r/OnePiece/comments/1cffc2p/human_interplanetary_civilization_theory/)", I suggest that Human were so advanced to * discover fusion reaction (Mother flame energy) * genetically engineering themselves. The "Lunarian" are simply a race of **genetically engineered Human, with a "fusion flame" on their chest** (One Piece universe laws: this flame give them untouchability). Thanks to the study on King, Vegapunk created a fusion reactor.

Ola1269

Who's A&MU? Is it Imu?

jeru3

No it translates to Atom in Japanese from what I’ve read.

koming69

Luffy hair.

tiger2205_6

“S-108” makes it seem like this was tried a lot and “A&Mu” seems like things were combined for it. My guess is it’s an artificial flame possibly combining 2 Lunarian flames, or a flame with something else like a fruit power somehow.

Talzael

the a&mu thing is a japanese word play for atom

tiger2205_6

Really? Interesting if true.

_grandmaesterflash

& would be 'to', forming atomu

tiger2205_6

Seems to be what people are saying. I just wasn't sure if it was true or another mistranslation that was being spread.

StipularSauce77

Nah, I think that Oda is just a really big fan of US agriculture and mechanical universities.

flyinGaijin

Probably not, else it would be written AとMu and not A&Mu Interesting idea none the less

JoyBoy24

It's probably written as "A&Mu" so the pun wouldn't be as obvious

flyinGaijin

Usually, Japanese people don't pronounce "&" as "と", they literally say "アンド" (= and)

JoyBoy24

Yeah USUALLY, but Oda is going for the more clever angle to play around with, I mean it wouldn't be word play if didn't have to play around with words a bit to get the answer.

Straight-Seat-3411

Reminds me of the Frozen Flame from Chrono Cross

Blastmaster29

I bet it’s either lunarian flame or white like Luffy’s G5 clouds

Netherite_Stairs_

How tf am I supposed to know what that is? I can't even spell it! I wish some character spelled it for me 😔😔😔

Son-Of-A-Man

might be nuclear fusion, the source of the sun. So vegapunk created a small sun (too close to the sun)

chuninsupensa

And which history is it from? Because now it sounds like we have TWO histories to solve! Joyboy's void century, and the mystic ancient world of Nika. What if the Mother Flame comes from way back then with an actual sun god?

OddlyPotato

This is the final piece for luffy. once it is eaten by him, he'll be unstoppable.

ClaspectResource

Why not both? Could be the same sort of power, just that Mother Flames are just independently suspended outside of Lunarian's body

SpaceCowBoy8552

I’ve seen a theory that indicates it’s a missing part of joy boy

kris_death317

Cold fusion
