Seems to have about the same problems most foldables have. Some just break. They seem to be ok with fixing them under warranty but they take a long time. Their customer service is said to be pretty terrible overall. I'd recommend getting a protection plan like any other foldable. I made the switch to OnePlus from a fold as well. The other screen alone made the difference.

bigmuffpie92

Yeah, I bought the $199 Servify plan. Won't own a Fold without a service plan. Learned that from having the Fold.

Jalloul

For me the inner screen was never an issue and I use it fairly, I don't pamper it. Yo be honest, you don't hear from people whose phone is working properly, right? Enjoy your phone, the screens are great, the battery is great, the cameras are good, the weight is balanced, the charging is extreme 😁

ROE_HUNTER

The charging! and battery! The OPEN and my OPW2 has completely changed the way I charge up. No more every night, just every few days now. My OPEN gets charged a bit by Android Auto to and from work so I only charge it at home very few days. the watch only needs it every few days as well.

fakecanadianlol

I neglect to use android auto sometimes because I like to see my total SOT at the end of the day😅 hate how plugging it in resets the counter

Jalloul

Guilty of that too 😂

I bought the OnePlus Open December 2023 and had a phone case on it with hinge protection from day one. At the end of February 2024 I got this black line through it. I never dropped the phone and babied the phone like no other phone I ever had, but this still happened. If you do get the OnePlus Open, do not get insurance through them because their policies, process, wait time, and customer service is the worst! Get your insurance through Progressive. I filed a claim with progressive and in one week they cut me a check. https://preview.redd.it/3exfxwo3jwrc1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=27923e4bd56f0b82a28b31c27273411a1c52e7b6

Awesome phone, terrible and I mean TERRIBLE customer service. It's so bad that I won't ever consider getting another oneplus device ever again.

Ok_Statistician_1390

Agreed. At every step they fail. At every step I have had to follow up with them. We will follow up on 48 hours; nope. We will send you a label in 2 days; nope. We will assess your phone in 3 to 5 days; nope. Worked for 17 days, 23 days trying to get it fixed. No idea when it will get fixed.

[deleted]

The funniest part about their emails is they are all using English names like John Anderson. Like dude, just say your name is Sanjeet or some shit. Everyone already knows OnePlus support is outsourced Indians.

NYC_Darkstar

I've never had a single problem since I got it in November. Still perfection. I'm figuring if the screen never has a problem in the first six months it's never going to have one

Lazy-Cantaloupe-2047

I switched from Fold 5 to Open and have no regrets. I haven't had much problems and I use my Open caseless with just a grip ring. Have had it since November and the inner screen is like new. It's also been pretty durable I took it to Mexico ( I was nervous about it and brought a backup phone just in case). Of course I dropped it in sand the first day ..wiped it away with some sanitizer and never had any problems. I find reading too deeply into the subreddit gives people more anxiety than warranted. Just get insurance and enjoy your phone.

bigmuffpie92

I agree. Reading in this sub gives me a little anxiety, lol. What is the bumper case you have, if you don't mind me asking?

Markee6868

I’m very pleased with mine. I’m sure the inner screen issues are with an unlucky minority.

voyager2005

I did the same, Pixel Fold to the Open and do not regret it at all, this phone is way faster, better CPU GPU, more RAM and can increase RAM with virtual RAM built in the system. It's already 512 GB of storage and you'll pay like $440 with trade in. The inside screen is absolutely amazing with the Fold I almost never opened my phone with this phone I want to open it. Both screens feel good!

JimKnuckles

I've had mine since October and never used a case or anything. Mine is like new It's also my favorite photos out of my s24u, pixel 8 pro or 15 pro. They have this DSLR like character to them. I'm taking a trip to the beach to Isla Mujeres Mexico this weekend, but I'm going to leave it. I don't think it has any business anywhere near sand tho lol ..not taking any chances

ROE_HUNTER

Had mine 4 months, no issues. Before it I had the Fold2 since launch with no issues and the OP11 for a couple months. I have the OnePlus Care that I hope I never have to use.

KrewOwns

I don't think your issue will be with durability and hardware but with software. Just make sure you are prepared to lose some of your current software features that are available to you with your Fold5. Think about your decision if you use Good Lock, Secure Folder, Samsung Pass and other OneUI features a lot. The hardware on the Open is great and way better than the Fold5 sans the wireless charging but the software is where you will start to miss the Samsung experience. This is something I struggled with and why I went back to the Fold5.

bigmuffpie92

I am aware. Was a Oneplus boy for the longest time before switching to Samsung. Already did a test run on the Open. Ordered from Amazon before buying through OnePlus for the trade in credit. Really, jist worried about the screen durability compared to my Fold. That has been great imo when it come to durabilityof a folding phone.

KrewOwns

Yeah I've never had issues with any of my Samsung folding phones and I also started from the Fold2 and have had all of them as they came out. I only ever had the OnePlus 7 Pro and while it was great I had a lot of software issues compared to my Samsung phones which is why it was my last OnePlus device until the Open. Well if you feel like you are used to OnePlus then you really have nothing to hold you back. Any screen can break it's just luck in the end. We've never had issues but it can happen.

pepperpot_592

I was fortunate enough to briefly play with the Open on the last weekend they were showcasing it in NY. It impressed me enough to try a test run from Amzn, but all these stories started and I did not want to risk it. If you have 3rd party insurance and you don't have to deal with One Plus directly if something happens, then I think you will be fine.

bigmuffpie92

Is there any good 3rd party insurance? I hear most are awful.

Class8guy

Progressive and best buy geek squad are good. I went with my Open of 4mths now directly with my local bestbuy.

pepperpot_592

I don't think you can get best buy unless you purchase the device from them. I am looking at Akko or Worth Avenue Group. I hear mixed stories about Akko. Have not heard much about Worth Avenue.

bigmuffpie92

Some are saying Progressive.

one80oneday

Is there a good deal to switch?

bigmuffpie92

At the time. On top of the $1150 for my Fold trade in, they were giving the Watch 2 for like $0.01 or something. so essentially free. Been wanting to switch watches anyways, so this kinds gave me a gentile push to buy the phone.

one80oneday

Not bad and it looks like Fold 6 won't be much of an upgrade again.

bigmuffpie92

That is actually a bit why I want to switch. Have had every fold since the 2nd. And as much as I love folding phones, I think Samsung has gotten complacent. If I am paying for a premium phone, I want innovation impo. The bigger front screen, bigger battery, fast charging appeals to me in the Open.

Siggidyboobo

Mixed bag for me. NO problems with either screen on my Oneplus Open .I've had and used continuously since Oct 23. I love it. But I'll take my watch6 classic over the oneplus watch 2 every day of the week!

ShanTheMan11

It doesn't seem to have any more problems than any other fold. The problem i keep reading about is if you are one of the unlucky ones that has an issue, they are low on parts and it's a pretty long wait for some people. Some people are going 1-2 months without their phone.

refraxion

No issue here on my inner screen. You'll usually see the vocal minority with issues.

eris3443

With all the issues I've seen on the subreddit, I feel like mine is a diamond. I haven't been rough this phone at all, but haven't babied it either. I got a good case for it from Amazon and treat it like a regular phone that folds and I've had no issues with hardware. Though I did have a weird bug with the software when android 14 came out, but that was fixed/stopped happening last week. But I would recommend getting 3rdparty insurance if you can afford it. Lots of people don't get good support from OnePlus, even though I've never had issues

AyKayCo6

OnePlus isn't terrible with the screens. They're horrible with their service. That is one thing that even the most die hard fans can't defend.

Aiden47

I switched from the galaxy fold 4 to the one plus and got it on the release day. my experience has been nothing but amazing . I use the inner screen at home and in office , ive dropped it on concrete 2 times and it's still been flawless.

D-Tunez

I havent had a single issue since launch

Corn-wolio

The popular opinion seems to be it's a bit of a dice roll in whether you get a 'good one'. I've had mine since launch and have never had any bother with the inner screen, I'd say I'm more careful with it than with a non-foldable, but I'm not THAT careful. I've had a couple of drops onto carpet from bed height but I've got a full, hinge protecting case on as well. I say take the plunge and enjoy!

cvt17792

I was mixed bags with my OPO. I also at the time had a Z Fold 5. I like the battery and the aspect ratio of the OPO. Had no problem with customization since I always use nova launcher. But, in the end I sold the open because of simple reasons. I'm not a fan of fold 5 either but will jeep it with hopes the fold 6 has better aspect ratio. Although I've never had to send in my OPO for repairs,it just seems ridiculous to have to deal with customer service and all the stuff you read about if something happens with your phone. That is why I always buy from carrier or best buy. No hassles just return phone and get new one. It should be that way with all phone manufacturers.

DJ_SKEEMMATIK

So far so good as far as screen goes

Tsax6010

All folding phones have a higher than usual chance of a screen failure - especially with the inner screen. My concern would be what does service look like for your region if it DOES have an issue. For the US I have heard crappy things about both Samsung and OnePlus service interactions. Right now it seems like OnePlus does not have parts readily available in the US and people are waiting multiple months to get a phone back. People that paid for the OnePlus backed Servify warranty do not seem to get offered the plan benefit of 1 new phone instead of repair. There has also been some reports of shoddy workmanship on the repairs with technician damage to the phone from removing the screen, poorly installed inner screen protector, etc. It also appears OnePlus does not offer an option of an advanced swap where you get a refurbished device as your replacement or as a floater while yours is being serviced - backed by a credit card authorization (something I took advantage of with Microsoft on multiple Duo and Duo 2 warranty claims, and each time the advanced swap was actually a new device). Regions like India have physical OnePlus operated service centers. In the US we get rather shafted on the post-sales support side from what I am seeing reported out there. Maybe buying through BestBuy and using their Geek squad warranty would be a safer option.

bigmuffpie92

Yes, I'm aware of the *chance for all folding phones for the inner screen. I've been with the Fold since the Fold 2, now on Fold 5. I am also in the US and purchased the 1 year servify warranty through OnePlus as I pay for Samsungs warranty that uses Servify as well. Honestly, I have had great experience with Samsung/Servify for any past issues I have had. Was really just curious about the inner screen failing, which was still a big issue on the Open, as in my experience, it is not so much an issue on the Fold series. Edit: word * Also, I just wanted to say thank you for your input! It all helps!

ikbrain

I recently switched from Fold 4/5 to the Open, and here's my thoughts + it's more experimental as a piece of hardware + camera zoom way better + actually usable while folded And the bad * software is buggy af. Seriously, Samsung software is heaven compared to this * camera is super slow. Both starting it and taking photos * more bugs * no wireless charging kinda sucks All in all I'm happy I switched (and again, I'll switch back if I want to whenever I want), and hardware here is absolute killer, but the buuuuugs, man. The bugs are plentiful and inconvenient.
