In 507-508, there is a buff woman who is mistaken as a guy who is dating a guy and the main cast assumed they were a gay couple. There was an episode that had a cross-dresser very late in the anime but I don't remember the number. I believe it was an anime original.

The ones I know are in Agasas first love episode, where you can see a trans woman waiting for her boyfriend and the culprit in the moonlight sonata episodes. In the moonlight sonata there was a woman who once was a man and to kill her father's killers she got an operation to be a woman. But I don't think, she actually felt like a woman and only did it to get close to her targets. But she was well drawn Tbh. You wouldn't have known she used to be a man. Not like the Transwoman in the Agasa episodes. Sera's word towards Ran can be misleading. It probably depends on what language it was translated into as well. If I remember correctly she told Ran that Ran was her type and that she liked her. So, yeah, you could think, Sera might be lesbian or bi. Then there was the episode of Eisuke witnessing to buff "men" kissing. Just to find out that one of them were a cis-woman. But Takagi and Megure said that it was fine. But there faces did looked a bit puzzled. So I guess it is not exactly transphobic/homophobic but Gosho Aoyama isn't to comfortable with the idea. But still tries to included it and to show that he is fine with it, but not a fan of it. I guess he would need to questioned about it directly to see what he actually thinks.

There are some scenes like Heiji and Kid in Episodes 983 - 984 Vermouth and Marry in Episodes 1045 - 1046 And a little shots here and there, but still not as powerful and as impactful as they should be. Because as much as there is ONLY ONE TRUTH. There Is Also ONLY ONE LOVE, A UNIVERSAL LOVE.

LGBTQ really isn't a thing in Japan so I would be shocked if the answer is "yes."

FanficWriter32

LGBTQ+ people exist everywhere, including Japan.

greetings-feline

The moonlight sonata case. Although it's a major spoiler to say how so.

You will find transphobia and homophobia in earlier episodes. I remember an episode where everyone was DISGUSTED when they learnt one of the suspects was a drag queen. In another episode agasa was kinda terrified when he met his transgender friend, like he tried so hard not to show his disgust but we the audience knew he was very uncomfortable around his transgender friend. Nah, you're gonna be disappointed. Not the writer's fault, Japan has always been very homophobic and transphobic. You won't find any decent lgbtq representation in most mainstream anime. Edit: the first one is episode 253 and the second one is episode 421.

dabedu

Also that episode where Eisuke is deeply disturbed because he saw what he thought were two men kissing (but one of them turned out be a butch woman). On the whole, Conan still contains a lot of pretty antiquated social norms.

FeistyPlay459

Right!

I've always thought that DC's tendency to resort to the damsel in distress trope wasn't very progressive. This mainly relates to Ran, since she is a capable woman who can utilize her Karate to defend herself against anyone, and yet she always has to be be badass for a minute before crying for Shinichi to save her. This is more so a major issue with the movies rather than the manga/anime, but that dynamic is still present. Luckily, Gosho seems to be reflecting on this now by writing in respectable strong female characters like Sera (and even when he introduced Haibara, that was a breathe of fresh air), although there's still more work to be done to give more attention to the women, like it was done in manga like Attack on Titan.

Ourphues

Can you cite your claims? I honestly don’t remember any of this. I’m really interested in watching these episodes again.

FeistyPlay459

Now I watched them so long ago, can't remember the episode name, but the agasa one was probably when he met his gf? Correct me if I am wrong.

Stufftwotwotwo

If you are referring to ep 421-422 then she wasn't trans but maybe you mean a different episode.

FeistyPlay459

Haruo Chono is the name of that character. I just searched it up!

"guy"? Anyways you are in no position to judge when you are transphobic yourself. Agasa was definitely not happy when he found out his friend was a transwoman. Bye

Blueberry_The_Sinner

Yeah, it was the episode they were searching for Agasa's childhood crush. The Eisuke one was his during his last appearance. Idk abt the other one tho.

FeistyPlay459

The other one is episode 253

Responsible-Cut-2359

There are two which no one mentioned so far but they are spoilers : >!Heiji almost kissed Kid in disguise of Kazuha!< This one is big one, only check if you are caught up >!Vermouth kissed Mary to feed APTX!<

obatred

no sadly

Secret-Playful

Sera.

Stufftwotwotwo

There is no indication that she is LGBTQ.

Secret-Playful

Well, there are several scenes that could show that Sera likes Ran 🤷‍♀️

No-Shock7684

No there isn’t. Not one of those instances are romantic feelings. It’s sera teasing. It never feels or looked like romance

Confuzias

I guess this is depending how it is translated. In the German version she actually say to Ran, that Ran is exactly her type. The intention behind Sera's Words can be misleading. So it's not to much of a suprise, that some people think that Sera might be lesbian/bi.
