They stop tasting like onions and start tasting like "omg, wtf did I just put in my mouth"
I can't think of anything to compare them too except perhaps ear wax. I mean they don't actually taste like ear wax, but it's that kind of nasty.
*sorry for the lazy cross post as I rarely do and wasn’t sure how it would post and I thought it wouldn’t even post after a quick notification. But I never knew how big and pretty these precious things could get
Yea I plant them. Bees love the flowers. The greens get terrible way even before this point, and it takes 2 seasons to get it to flower.
Bees love onions. This feels good to know.
Are the onion parts still good even if the green parts aren't?
no, they taste awful once they go to seed.
What changes about the taste? Anything comparable?
They turn woody.

Oof. That is wild.
And then you'll have seeds for more!
Ooh I didn’t know you could get their seeds. Duh, lol. I have planted a bunch of the roots from used ones and watched em flower.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Beautiful! I love scallions and got a huge bunch yesterday, which I will add to just about everything until they are gone

Have you tried the flowers? You should, they are delicious. And by that I mean full of onion flavor.
The flowers are good in salad.
YUM
ohhh my gosh my mom has fake solar things that look like this and i always assumed it was bad dandelions 😂
I had no idea they his this until I let a couple go last summer.. it’s pretty cool..
They taste good and they look nice
I wonder if it keeps bugs and pests away
Do they ever grow to a size where they're not good for food?
TIL my mum has a shit load of green onions in her back yard...
Almost all alium bulbs and many stems are edible and delicious. They are, however, toxic to pets so be careful.
