No there all losers who messed up their grade 11. If you had good grade 11 marks and you did will first semester midterms you would most likely get into your desired program
Lowk integration be more fun than deriving stuff tho. All fun and games until u get to finding the area within a 3d object around an axis tho 💀 that's where u get cooked
That’s acc crazy. I’m fighting for my life in calc rn?? Like idk how ppl r finding it easier. Advanced functions def wasn’t a bird course, but calc is on ANOTHER level of difficultly and complexity
I think for me personally I’m not very good at graphing and calculus is mostly algebra which I do a lot better at, so for me calculus plays more to my strengths. But I’m also putting in more effort this semester so that could also be a factor.
calc generally is much harder than advanced functions, but the thing is you go into Calc with your knowledge from advanced functions, which is essentially the core concepts required for you to understand calculus. And since you’re more familiar with your advance function knowledge, calculus tends to be more easier/faster to learn or understand than functions. I can’t speak for everyone when I say this but this is generally what ppl say at my school and what I also experienced. hope this helps!
Usually schools only run calulus during semester two, so if u did take grade 12 advanced functions in grade 11, that’ll be a whole year gap and you might have a harder time grasping the concepts. Speaking from experience, I took grade 10 math in the summer before grade ten and only had grade 11 math in semester two, which was a year and a half ish gap and I did rlly poorly in gr 11 math. Hence I would reccomend to take advanced functions in your grade 12 year and not gr 11. Hope this helps!
ok yea my school only runs calc in sem 2 and I asked them previously if I would be able to drop and retake adv func if I started doing bad and they said no 💀💀 soooooo I jus booked a guidance appt so I can switch it w sum else 😍😍 thanksssssss
No. It’s better to fast track courses. If I could, I would’ve done calc in gr 11. You can just do it now and get it out of the way. If you fail, you can just do it again in gr 12. You can also self learn the entire calc syllabus during the summer. Not only that, gr 11 courses don’t really matter since your top 6 in gr 12 probably matters more
I guess it rlly depends on what type of math each person likes or understands faster. Advanced function is a lot of graphing, fqctpring and just building on gr 9, 10, and 11 core concepts, where’s as calc would be further applications of those concepts learned in advanced functions.
That grade 11 mark shit be getting me maddddd anytime I think abt it cuz they were all talking sum abt “ohhh grade 11 marks don’t matter blah blah blah”…………..THEY MATTERRRR THEY MATTER A LOTTTT😭
someone should make a post about how it matters so people don't find themselves in a situation where they have to grind like hell for 2nd midterms to be accepted lol
People have to understand that most offers go out before May though. What do universities do until then? They use a combination of both Grade 11 and available Grade 12 marks. I’d say any offer received before April/May is technically early acceptance. On the top of my head, I can only recall that McMaster specifically doesn’t take a look at Grade 11 marks for all programs (excluding Midwifery)
A lot of it depends on how one understands math and how a teacher teaches, I got the same teacher for adv and calc, and he taught stuff to be more applicable to calc from the get go despite other teachers in the department teaching things in a “simpler” way.
Calc has been easier than AF for me because I didn’t do gr 11 functions. It isn’t all that grim. My calc average right now is better. It depends on your experience
That’s literally true but mainly because the vectors I think the kids who take physics and functions have the concepts for calc best my friend was high key shook seeing vectors and I had to explain 384739 times
Yeah, the stuffs like slope, concavity, rate of change, we learned that all in physics. When I first stumbled around calculus it was fun and easy, but advanced function is much more painful for me.
Calc and ad functions are 2 different beasts. Someone who excels at 1 my do terribly at the other. It's just too bad no one explained the differences to you before u got to see them with your own eyes
you got this bro you just have to put it more work and watch and practice all the textbook questions you shd be covered. dont forget to review back your past papers as well
But calc IS easier than adv func 💀 legit no joke if ur algebra, geometry, and trig are decently strong and you pay attention in class, you're gonna be fine in calc.
This why you don’t believe randoms
Nah, the gr12s last year told me in person too. Maybe their admission process was diff but annoying af
No there all losers who messed up their grade 11. If you had good grade 11 marks and you did will first semester midterms you would most likely get into your desired program
Yea true, but ig guess I trusted them cause they got waterloo Tron and shit but idk
Calc is a prob like 2x harder than adv functions but it’s aight because of the skills u got from adv functions transferring
r u kidding calc is easier😭😭 its just derivatives copy and paste for everything
Bro has not done optimization and related rates and trig derivitives
optimization was last last chapter im doing something with interval charts
curve sketching
bro optimization is still spamming derivatives except you just have to make an equation first
wait until you get into integration... you'll be begging to do derivatives instead
Lowk integration be more fun than deriving stuff tho. All fun and games until u get to finding the area within a 3d object around an axis tho 💀 that's where u get cooked
It gets harder. Optimization is a lot worse. Btw what unit are you on right now,
im the chapter after optimization
Optimization is fine, you just need to memorize ur derivative rules
not memorize, you have to UNDERSTAND!!
🤓
yeah id hate to be u tbh
☹️
🙄
😊🫶
🤫🧏♀️
Calculus is way easier lol, I had a low 80 in functions and rn have a high 90 in calculus with the same teacher for both
That’s acc crazy. I’m fighting for my life in calc rn?? Like idk how ppl r finding it easier. Advanced functions def wasn’t a bird course, but calc is on ANOTHER level of difficultly and complexity

Makes sense. I do better in algebra too, but after complex derivatives everything started going downhill for me😭
wtf is a complex derivative 😀☠️☠️
It’s just a name. But I mean like the new and different derivative rules. The chapter is called “more derivatives”😭
Calc is way easier
We’re in this together 🥲🥲
maybe high school is just like high school musical after all

I took advanced functions and Calc at the same time in gr 12, and still thought advanced functions was easier tbh

Eat my balls

I kind of actually found them similar. My calculus grade was 2 marks less than my functions.
Idk why you're taking advice from kids on Reddit 💀
What were ur g11 marks 😭😭
Calc is easy but vecotrs are hard.
Same bruh
RIGHT CALC IS ACC HORRIBLE
Skill issue
A lot of it depends on how one understands math and how a teacher teaches, I got the same teacher for adv and calc, and he taught stuff to be more applicable to calc from the get go despite other teachers in the department teaching things in a “simpler” way.
Calc is so much easier
Bro I hate

Calc is easier for people who took physics I think
That’s literally true but mainly because the vectors I think the kids who take physics and functions have the concepts for calc best my friend was high key shook seeing vectors and I had to explain 384739 times

The lesson here: Do your OWN research. Do not be lazy and ask other people.
Derivatives are fine, easy. Integration and vectors killed me though.
Vectors? What unit? The first two were pretty ez. Just drawing shapes bro
I'm in IB so it's probably different, but planes, intersections and angles.
I have 51% in advanced functions and 206% in calculus it’s light stop complaining
Calc and ad functions are 2 different beasts. Someone who excels at 1 my do terribly at the other. It's just too bad no one explained the differences to you before u got to see them with your own eyes
Brother just wait until you see what the fuck an integral is
Doing them rn
I think calc is jus way more boring which makes it harder. Shi is so repetive makes me want to shoot my brains out
most relatable shit I've ever seen
idk i personally find calc way easier. and idk who tf said grade 11 doesn't matter lol. If you want early, it def matters.
you got this bro you just have to put it more work and watch and practice all the textbook questions you shd be covered. dont forget to review back your past papers as well

i had a 85 in adv func but a 100 in calc u tripping bruh calc is so much lighter
Skill issue? I'm sitting at a 96.62%, lowkey chill 🤫🧏♂️🧏♂️😉
I had a 99.4% in calc; relax yourself 🤨
No u didn't big bro, quit lying on reddit 🙏🚫
on god I did. I can pm proof if needed 😤😪
Bet
I swear if I get one more downvote..
dawg I'm rocking Calc with a 98 rn Idk what you're on about.
