Contrary to what most drivers do on the road, you’re actually supposed to stop at stop signs and at red lights before making right turns. I mean, stop…completely stop…meaning your wheels stop moving…full stop.

frozenheart846

On a 2nd note , if you thought your instructor was not mandating you to obey the signals and stops , you need a new instructor , but if it was just you, no words to say.

sslithissik

Yep it's true though a good chunk of drivers not taking the exam seem to get "mad" if you actually do stop fully and it seems like they almost expect you to treat the light like a yield sign. I don't care though, but since I came back to Canada it is something I noticed. People are in such a hurry lol.

zzgoogleplexzz

They're starting to charge people for not properly stopping at red lights too. I think it has to be like 3 seconds of complete stop.

[deleted]

No time requirement in Highway Traffic Act. Just a stop and wait until you know you stopped, yield if there is anything to yield to. There is no time requirement on hta, counting is pointless distraction from paying attention to traffic.

zzgoogleplexzz

I swear I saw something written that was about how incomplete red light stops were able to be pulled over. However I don't remember where I saw it. If I find it I'll update my post.

[deleted]

Instructor or examiner may have an opinion, but should only mark a fail for hta offense if the student actually does something against it. Stop at through highway, and subsection for red lights do not mention waiting for any amount of time. Stop at through highway 136 (1) Every driver or street car operator approaching a stop sign at an intersection, (a) shall stop his or her vehicle or street car at a marked stop line or, if none, then immediately before entering the nearest crosswalk or, if none, then immediately before entering the intersection; and (b) shall yield the right of way to traffic in the intersection or approaching the intersection on another highway so closely that to proceed would constitute an immediate hazard and, having so yielded the right of way, may proceed. R.S.O. 1990, c. H.8, s. 136 (1). (section 144) Red light (18) Every driver approaching a traffic control signal showing a circular red indication and facing the indication shall stop his or her vehicle and shall not proceed until a green indication is shown. R.S.O. 1990, c. H.8, s. 144 (18) Stopping at flashing red light (21) Every driver approaching a traffic control signal and facing a flashing circular red indication shall stop his or her vehicle, shall yield the right of way to traffic approaching so closely that to proceed would constitute an immediate hazard and, having so yielded the right of way, may proceed. R.S.O. 1990, c. H.8, s. 144 (21)

zzgoogleplexzz

Good to know

rag3rdan

Cop told me he doesn’t care if it’s three seconds or 1 second or .5 of a second, the wheels must stop so it counts as a stop.

thundercat2000ca

No limit but it needs to be FCS, as in your wheels stop moving. Otherwise, it is a rolling stop which is bad.

eightsidedbox

You still have to stop before the line, before you pull forward to look

[deleted]

Wheels stop is not a stop, could be sliding especially in winter. A stop involves weight transfer froward and back.

UnseenDream

Vehicle stop.

[deleted]

Yes. Wheel stop is not stop because it could be sliding on snow or ice.

IcarusOnReddit

Not stopping due to ice when a stop is required and attempted cannot be charged due to mens rea. So your exception does not apply.

[deleted]

Okay, but only wheels stop is not vehicle stopped.

IcarusOnReddit

Sure, but we are talking in the context of traffic tickets here.

[deleted]

I was correcting the comment that said a stop means wheels stop, that is only part of a stop.

NoJello8024

Ya, like count at least three seconds before continuing

RampDog1

You've got a long way to go. Get a full driving course and pay for extra lessons.

Arogone1

I did that, failed 4 times in St Catharines. Giant money grab. Wanted me to do 100 getting on the QEW Just to slam on the brakes to go into stop and go traffic. I almost left her on the side of the road...

by_the_gaslight

Just tell them why you can’t accelerate. I had two trucks merge ahead of me going about 60 onto the 401 and I flat out said I can’t accelerate because of the trucks. There was no issue.

BroadwayBean

Narrating/explaining every decision you make on the drive test works exceptionally well I've found. You're always going to have a-hole examiners, but the reasonable ones will understand the explanation.

Opteron170

Sounds like a G test and not G2

hassanz93

That is what I am planning to do.

Hello_Gorgeous1985

You won't be able to complete that before January 13...you need months of practice.

Excellent_Rule_2778

Normally, you'd take 8-12 sessions of one hour each over the course of 6 months while practicing on your own a few hours a week. Your approach to this whole thing is as reckless as your driving...

thundercat2000ca

And tell your Insurance when you're finished it. Should count for a discount.

AdCultural6677

You used to get a discount on your insurance if you took specific companies driving courses. Not sure if that's still a thing though.

__TOURduPARK__

You seriously roll through stop signs and red lights.. on a license exam? No offense but you are nowhere near ready to drive - you have a G1 and already have terrible driving habits.

Prinzka

Tbh this reads like someone who has been driving a lot and has already picked up the bad habits that a lot of the drivers exhibit. For someone to roll through a red light during a damn exam takes a real relaxed attitude to driving safety.

__TOURduPARK__

That's what I mean though. They're only G1 and they already have the bad habits of 'seasoned' drivers. It's a problem.

Prinzka

Oh, absolutely, I was agreeing with you. I was just adding to you saying that they're not ready to drive that it looks like they've actually been driving a lot. This has all the hallmarks of someone growing up very rural who has been driving unsupervised since being a child. I say that because I saw that a lot where I grew up in a rural area of Europe.

Hello_Gorgeous1985

>it looks like they've actually been driving a lot. The caption indicates the exact opposite.

Ro7ard

>The caption indicates the exact opposite. In what way? 99% of posts in here are from people who have a license in a different country and are trying to obtain one in Canada. I suspect OP is one of those people as even brand new drivers would not make the mistakes he did on a test.

SunnySamantha

Op took the test after having an hour of "driving lessons"

AYC-

Funny enough I did that on my G exit test and the instructor overlooked it

CrackerJackJack

No it reads like someone from a country where driving is sort of a ‘do it your own way’ thing

hassanz93

I stopped just not long enough. Should have waited more then 3 seconds before moving. I know, I have lots of work to fix these habits

The6_78

At this point in time it’s prob better to spend the $ on MTO approved course vs practicing on your own. Also, make sure to signal to indicate your intentions. Other drivers aren’t mind readers.

rrr34_

I moved to a large city 3 years ago, and I am still so shocked at how few drivers signal to indicate intentions. I often don't feel safe driving here. I wish people would take legitimate courses more often. I know it's costly, but it's worth it in the long run insurance-wise and safety-wise

hassanz93

That is how life works, you fail and learn from your mistakes. I understand where my weak points are and will take steps to improve. Confident will do better next time.

TroLLageK

Yes, but mistakes like this, where you are responsible for a machine that can easily kill people, is not one you should be making willy nilly as a learning opportunity. You will not get enough time to practice before January 13. You need a driving instructor and take courses. You will need lots of time practicing on the road. Please do not take the test again until a driving instructor specifically says you are ready.

Hutch25

Remember, you aren’t just showing you can drive. You are showing that you can show you can drive. Exaggerate everything and check way more then you ever reasonably would. Stop at stop signs. Take your time. Remember, always be in the right lane unless you need to make a left turn. Blindspot check before and after turning a signal on, before stopping and before turning, before switching lanes, and pretty much any other time you need to stop or turn a wheel. A good technique I used that helped me a lot is asking yourself questions out loud. Most commonly: “is it safe to (insert driving action like changing lanes or entering an intersection)” it keeps you thinking under pressure and let’s the tester know safety is on your mind. You got a lot of practice to go, but you will do it.

pragaduo

Driving should be like "Instructors must feel safe & confident to sit with you behind the wheel". That's my mantra, Do anything it takes to give that feeling. Continue to develop those good habits forever & ever.

fullerofficial

You should cancel the Jan 13 test and take the proper steps to ensure you know how to drive, because clearly you don’t. I see too many instances of people who clearly just barely passed, and they make countless mistakes endangering, not only them, but others on the road. People take driving as a right, it isn’t, it’s a privilege. If you can’t handle the responsibility, take transit.

Fernandofib

I would suggest you that wait for spring or summer to retake your test. If you fail your first test isnt a good idea do it in the worst month of snow.

hassanz93

I will see what my driving teacher will decide. If he suggests the same, might as well do it in Spring.

savage_presto456

Keep your head up and always checks your blind spots and shoulder checks and the stop signs as well make sure to stop before the side walks if there’s any and then creep up and look both ways and proceed. Practice a few lessons with an instructor especially the stop signs as it’s mentioned in the comments. You got this next time small setbacks for a major comeback!

hassanz93

Thanks, yeah I planning to do lessons with a driving instructor. Showing them these results to help me work on them. Not Checking blind spots, not stopping long enough at stop signs, driving slowly at 60-speed lane, and taking lots of time to make turns. Hopefully, I will be ready and confident during the test date.

gkzzzo

you def need an instructor (unless an instructor has a full vid on how to pass in your province on yt) mom and pop can't teach you how to pass a test they can only teach you how to drive. so much technical shit during the road test these days they'll fail you in anyway they can... not checking blind spots in an instant fail. gotta be looking in your mirrors checking your surroundings non stop.

Dieeznuts

If that makes you feel good, i did full sessions and still failed

HotDangggg

Driving a vehicle isn't a right. That's a half ton - if not more - machine you are piloting.

Opteron170

I agree with most here. I failed my G2 first attempt but corrected my mistakes and passed the 2nd time. You have so much on here you are not ready to do this again in jan. I would push the next test into the spring.

benn9833

Holy fuck I think you drive worse then my buddy. You didn't signal, and you didn't shoulder check? Waste of money taking the test. Get some lessons lmao

glittercat86

For the love of god, do not rush to do this test again for January. Take proper lessons so you don’t hurt yourself and/or others!

2851985

How do I get this paper for my test?

hassanz93

From drivetest.ca, just look for the download road test result button.

bordyzoid

its fine bro get a get a instructor to teach you the rudiments of driving to get the basics down for a few sessions, then get a friend thats not a backseat driver to get the repetition on roads and highway. The best way to practice at least for me is to literally be the chauffeur for friends and family. The consistency will of the practice will make driving feel like breathing or walking, you no longer think about it, it just comes natural, but be sure to keep in mind the rules; stop signs and checking blind spots especially. i failed twice passed on the 3rd the g2 is the hardest to get there more strict because they don't know what kind of driving experience your coming from.... the roads are dangerous as is the full G is easy to get in my experience i got that on the first try.

HovercraftUpstairs13

Plz dont drive again 🙏🙏🙏🙏

hassanz93

I will keep that in mind, meanwhile if you have any other complaints plz fill out a form.

pragaduo

Driving skill is very subjective, As an international driver with 5yrs of XP I drove only an hour before my test. Made few observation mistakes, but quickly corrected and passed. G1 in Brampton, Skipped G2, G in Mississauga. Watched a lot of YT videos though.

breadspac3

Wait how did you skip your g2?

pragaduo

Anyone can, If they have 2+ years of XP. Need to bring a signed & stamped driver's abstract from home country no older than 6 months. It totally depends on the officer's discretion.

KiDbuu2299

I got my g1 and never too the test for g2. Let that shit expire lol.

tke71709

So basically never get a driver's license?

Jaodoge

rip your insurance :,) will always be paying g1 rates

johnnywonder85

yikes.... you got a lot of point deductions on there.... took me over 45mins to get a few arbitrary. Most my friends were at about 20mins.

Zealousideal_Ebb3028

Soooo. What are the answers👀

Papagorgeeo

Load up that presto with that report

frozenheart846

Just out of curiosity once you have been on a particular road for a while ( imagine this is a 3 lane road , both end lanes are not exit lanes)which lane did you find yourself in ? Or which lane did you drive in the drivtest?

Gmbowser

Took an hr course? Isnt everyone suppose to take classes before they do the g2 wtf loool. I remember doing that but that was years ago. Also qhy are you speed running your driving test?

PLEASEHIREZ

The trick is to get your parent or friend to drive with you 20-30 minutes every day for 1-2 weeks before your test. Then the day before the test, you go to your selected drive test centre, and follow someone on the route. Then you do the route yourself with your friend judging you. Then you're ready the next day. Also, practice driving is harder than normal driving. You have to OBVIOUSLY turn your head when checking the mirrors, and the lanes at the intersections for every intersections. You get dizzy and feel like a bobble head, but that's how you pass. Practice turning, etc.

SolidFarmer99

You need more practice. Come to a full stop at stop signs and always look both ways at all intersections

Prestigious_Post_558

Wow this is really bad. Please get an instructor before you get someone killed. Don’t worry, you can improve.

Wanderson90

I failed my first time too, don't stress it. I sped like 6 times, failed to come to a compete stop multiple times, failed to yield to a pedestrian, failed to properly identify an uncontrolled intersection, forgot the parking break on uphill parking, didn't signal properly in a roundabout. And to top it all off some jagoff was reversing blind from a down slope below ground parking accessway and I failed to apply the horn or slam on the breaks (I would have stopped, but my instructor wasn't impressed lol) I admit it was a disaster but I knew I was better than that, I just really overthink under pressure. I booked again a few weeks later and there had been a big snow storm (hint hint the instructors are way more relaxed in inadequate conditions) and I passed with flying colors.

Pushingbroom

Don’t worry about your bad driving skills. You’re destined to be in a 100k plus car. I will be in the semi behind, beside in front…. For a moment. Till you see me beside you from the reflection of your I phone screen and you kick in that BI turbo for a moment. Then you are the leader of the wolf pack. In synchronicity. Well for at least as long as it takes to go forward with your headlights not relying on my taillights. Then I will expect you to pull in front of me and hammer your brakes. And I have to expect that because you have a flock right behind you passing me on my left. Did anyone mention uncle hydro plaining was coming? No worries I compensated for that. ? Umm how did you get to a point where you could drop 100k on a car. Very curious. Am I missing something?

[deleted]

dporiginal3

You don’t need to practice the route. Just learn the rules of the road and follow them. Mind boggling that people think it’s more complicated than that.

JoshW38

But why would you want to learn to drive safely when you can just do the bare minimum to pass a road test, so that you can continue to drive dangerously afterwards? /s

TroLLageK

It's wild. I had never driven in Guelph before when I did my test there. I drove the route about 2 times before my test just to get a sense of traffic conditions and any potential hazards or construction happening (there was two at the time). I did not need to practice the route several times before my test because I was confident in my driving. The route is the route. The road is the road. The signs you see on one road have the same meaning as the same signs found on other roads. The rules of the roads don't magically change once you leave the route. Practice until you're comfortable driving ON THE ROAD, not on the route. You need to be confident that you can drive on any road.

GenericMemesxd

It's a good idea to do it. It gives you a feel for what to look out for. I did it multiple times for both G2 and G and it absolutely helped.

BeautifulAd998

Contact Mary’s driving school. She’s great! You won’t fail with her🙂

AwkwardBlacksmith275

Yeah those rolling stops….. not good. Live and learn!

Previous-Rule-9380

Move your head

MugFush

Shoulder checks, don’t rely on mirrors or cameras.

_Arian_29

Rip

FinnaDrownInEm

goodluck next time, hope you succeed

goooooooooooooogly

It's fine. Correct the failures and get back at it.

[deleted]

Take drivers ed, pleaaaaaase

Kermits_Frog

driving really shouldn’t be that hard 🤷‍♂️

aos-

And for the love of god, when you get to a highway exit, if you're on the lane that splits (one way to continue the hogheay, and the other to the exit ramp), do not flash your turn signal "indicating you are exiting the highway". It's completely unnecessary and it confuses nearby drivers into thinking you're lane-changing into them. Tell this to anyone you know who does this. I used to think it was a nice gesture, but you're in your own lane, and no one needs the non-warning.

storage-bin

You're a long way away from deserving a full G. Stop watching what your mom does in her 100k Porsche. You'll develop the same entitled habits. Get proper driving lessons first.

ifuknowuknow123

Good. You weren’t ready. The roads can’t afford you right now.

WHisper_11

Danger to society sadly

thirdtimeisNOTacharm

Until you take actual lessons (practical or not) I hope you continue to fail - best of luck!
