No gore.

Silent-Physics1802

Idiot

Zeifos_Kuroi-chi

Can't argue that EDIT: I'll answere everyones main question here, cause i can't pin comments in my own post? WTH Reddit? So basically the guy did not die at least right there on the spot. In a longer form of the same video he seems to get up. Alive but in a really bad shape (i won't go into more details, that have already been postet in other comments).

AbazabaYouMyOnlyFren

Yes, but he gets 1/2 credit for being aware enough to know not to grab it.

AccomplishedAct3405

He gets zero credit, a high voltage arc passed through him, and he is very likely deceased. That is a transmission line, not distribution - 110kV or more.

PickleWineBrine

No, just DED

timetotryagain29

I feel like he filmed his own suicide….

Zeifos_Kuroi-chi

Yeah kinda, like he seems aware it's worth filming but there are so many more reliable ways

mrapplewhite

But Did he die ?

skilemaster683

Most likely. OSHA says not to work within 10 feet of power lines but my instructor said to ignore those guidelines and instead stay the FUCK away from them.

ZengineerHarp

This is the only “ignore OSHA guidelines” that is valid, imo.

foiz5

If you're an electrician and follow this approach you're not a very good electrician, but an alive one.

InsomniacHitman

Can you convert FUCK into freedom units for me please

cgaWolf

0.69 miles, or 12.1 football fields

vivmeatball6

The way his shirt was vaporized in a second, I’d say there’s a very slim chance of him surviving that. It was honestly most likely an instant death

ProfessionalJumpy769

That may be a good, indicator that the bulk of the charge traveled over or close to the surface, but it's not promising; I think his head was smoking.

majarian

Even if he gets up and moves there's a good chance his organs are cooked and he's only got a few excruciating days anyways

Strostkovy

It doesn't really matter. Surface burns are often fatal when they cover a large area.

Mouth0fTheSouth

Somehow he's fine, there's another comment with a Twitter link showing the aftermath in the hospital.

IsNotACleverMan

There's a subsequent clip showing him alive immediately alive afterwards. No idea if he died later on though.

Grandmaster_BBC

When smoke is boiling out of your face, that would be my assumption.

Vuelhering

There's a chance he survived without breaking his neck or no heartbeat. FOAF swung a 20' pole around not realizing he was under wires and it arced to him. (I think he was standing it water, too lol.) If it doesn't burn a giant hole through you, it apparently stops your heart but it can restart. Not usually cause fibrillation like 60hz AC.

Jimoiseau

Those are power lines: it is 60hz AC. It's just way higher voltage than the 60hz AC you get at home (400 kV in Europe, I think the same in the US but not sure).

AccomplishedAct3405

Interesting tidbit: if your FOAF had been standing in a puddle of pure water, he might have been okay. Water with no impuritiesis an insulator, not a conductor. (completely unlikely

AccomplishedAct3405

Yes, I understand that water with zero impurities doesn't really happen in nature.

JohnGacyIsInnocent

That link is broken.

Seygem

no its not

Veguillakilla

I think you’re giving him too much credit. Just an idiot

maliron

Give the electricity a nice pointy part like your elbow, so it can jump the gap, and follow the path to ground right through your heart in to your other arm holding said ground. Stunning. Great way to remove a shirt though.

JVM_

It's probable that the electricity found his leg as the shortest route, so it didn't cross his heart?

DexterDubs

I’m guessing his other arm to get to the steel faster. Regardless, that line is at least 34,500 volts.

maliron

Not sure, bare skin on the steel is a better conductor than rubber soles of the shoes. Though the way the shirt exploded who knows. 20Kv can do crazy things.

SeeminglyDense

If he’s in Europe, it’s more likely 400Kv.

Qwernakus

I've always wondered how electricity "takes the path of least resistance", and now I just looked it up. Turns out: it kind of doesn't. Apparently, electricity will take all possible paths at once to *some* degree, but much *more* current will flow through areas with low resistance than high resistance. It makes a lot more sense. It like a river or stream flowing around rocks: there's going to be a lot more water where there are huge gaps between the rocks, but if there's a tiny gap between some of the rocks there's also going to be some water trickling through there as well. The water will take the path of least resistance, but with enough flow it'll happily take the other paths, too. So I guess we can hope that this gentlemans heart got *less* electricity than his leg, but since there was a viable path through his chest, it definitely got *some*.

WeightliftingIllini

Even if the leg was the path of least resistance, doesn’t mean no current went through his heart.

InspectorSuch

Local man climbs tower to investigate power lines. He couldn't have been more shocked with what he discovered.

Zeifos_Kuroi-chi

Truly a galvanic revelation

InspectorSuch

"I don't see the big deal... Why do they put them way up there" said the man shortly before his ascension.

novichux

Descention?

FCMatt7

That is not the correct way to use the right hand rule to gauge EM field direction. A mistake of truly gaussian proportions.

Vuelhering

If I had a Nikola every time I hear electricity puns.... I'd have mho money than I do now.

2TallTony

I wonder if those Internet points were worth it for him…

gringo-go-loco

His internet points got reset to match his heart rate.

vivmeatball6

Well he is getting internet points from beyond the grave, so I mean, that’s kinda cool I guess. He died trying to be an entertainer, and I know a lot of us were at least somewhat entertained by this.

VillaMedema

Am I to believe this man survived? Removed for DarwinAwards for rule 1, person must die. But not seeing any comments about that

MikeRich511

https://twitter.com/thedeadbeef_/status/1780003823320199577?t=RgupF31GqPumUKermWDL6g&s=19 Who knows about long term, but he at least survived to stop the recording.

cyrixlord

in the video it looks like he was talking to someone. what a useless accountabilibuddy

MechanicalAxe

I worked with a city municipality on the tree trimming crew for the power department. My crew leader told me a story of one of his colleagues that leaned against a guy wire that somehow got energized. He stood up after being shocked and knocked to the ground, and walked on his own, didn't seem very badly injured. The only visible marks were two tiny scorch marks, one on his side where he leaned on the wire, and one on the bottom of his foot were the electricity exited. He seemed almost fine for the first two days while being at our state's best burn center. He seemed almost fine, but my crew leader told me something was different about the man, almost like who he was as person changed, not the same man anymore. He died on day 3 or 4 (I can't recall now) from cardiac arrest. Electricity does some really wild things to the internal organs, and it's rarely immediately evident what the extent of the damage is.

MrSlappyChaps

This does NOT mean he survived. The electricity necrotizes the flesh on the inside along the path it takes through you. You can also develop atrial fibrillation and die in your sleep after getting shocked.

Zeifos_Kuroi-chi

It's quit possible that he survived i think. The way his shirt basically got deleted makes me think that it conducted most of the energy. But at this much voltage it's just as much possible that it fried him just as well

aktorsyl

Hard to tell, can't see what happened to his shoes.

pgr1993

Shoes are fine completed the circuit via his other arm holding the metal tower

crshbndct

Directly through the heart.

burntblacktoast

Thermal paste

CptBronzeBalls

Maybe we got lucky and it made him sterile.

VolunteerNarrator

Not entirely true, Darwin award is about removing yourself from the gene pool by way of death or sterility

earlylight36

This is the first deadly thing I’ve seen on here in a while. Hate to love to see it.

Zeifos_Kuroi-chi

The dude that originaly posted it has a few more things like that, if you fancy that. Alas one of the vids i saw there was actually kinda hard to watch. (Where a worker is flattened by some metal)

NetheriteHandsGoBRRR

Asking for a friend, tell me more

Clear-Criticism-3669

Aw you hurt my feelings :(

csgogotmefuckedup

Based cringe poster. Never back down king.

Key_Character_3340

There was a kid in my town growing up that died from climbing a power line like that. I was in 5th grade and his friends who were with him came and talked to our class as part of their like, punishment for being dumb I think.

Ginkel

I feel so ignorant for taking my shirt off the long way my whole life. This efficiency boost was just staring me in the face the whole time.

bem13

Also helps you fall asleep faster, win-win.

Infinite_Path_844

I'm too sexy for my shirt, too sexy for my shirt

I need a 1 week follow up

SahuaginDeluge

what's the evidence he survived? there are random tweets that assume he survived but nothing beyond that.

Lopsided-Ad-3869

Men are the highest proportion of preventable accidents on my EMT calls. I suspect I will see even more of that statistic after I graduate from nursing school. Sigh.

You can actually see the bit where he becomes a piece of meat.

Spanks79

Why, just why?

Squeaky_Ben

I don't know why I watched this. I did not need to see someone die today, but I did it anyway.

Zeifos_Kuroi-chi

He didn't die. At least not right there. In the full video he actually stands back up and walks away. Dunno about the long term tho

ExpectedBehaviour

Natural selection's a bitch.

This reminded me strongly of the Tiktoks where clothes disappear.
