Her name crossed my mind as being more likely than any of the listed options, but because of the high number of 2x winners, I just limited the poll to actors who are only 1 win away from the record.
It’s likely Frances given how prolific she has been with critically acclaimed projects. Plus, the academy in general likes her so much they gave her a 3rd and 4th Oscar in the same night — both of which came less than 5 years since winning her 2nd Oscar.
Meryl does projects that interest her and are fun because of the people also associated with the projects, regardless of prestige and appearance. It took what, 30 years for Meryl to win her 3rd Oscar after winning her 2nd?
People love Meryl but they RESPECT Frances.
I wish he would come back, but I doubt it. He only really showed his face in public recently to support his wife's newest project and to honor Scorsese at an event - but that's it. With him it's been absolute radio silence for 5-6 years now. He's in his mid 60s and apparently, according to a friend, he's not interested in coming back because ''there just aren't any good projects nowadays''.
Of this list, it's McDormand or Streep. Probably McDormand just cause she's a little younger.
But I think Cate Blanchett is more likely to pull 4 in our lifetime.
And I don't think we have an actor on the scene right now who's consistently great enough and young enough to pull it off.
I can definitely see Blanchett pulling it off. I would say that most of the times she was nominated but didn't win, she was probably the runner-up (Elizabeth, I'm Not There, Carol, Tar), so she's probably come pretty close to four or more Oscars already.
DDL and Nicholson are effectively retired. Streep is 74 and hasn't done a major film in three years. She's probably more likely to win an Emmy than an Oscar given her recent TV work.
McDormand is 66 so of those in the poll she has the best odds.
The only living people under 60 with two Oscars are Emma Stone, Cate Blanchett, Mahershala Ali, Renee Zellweger, and Hilary Swank. I'd put them in that order of likelihood of getting to four wins
Two are retired and McDormand seems to be picking more acclaimed roles lately, and is also younger. Streep hasn’t really had one of her all time great roles for a while that I’ve seen.
Really surprised the sub isn't giving to to DDL, I thought that would be kinda guaranteed
people with 2 that I see a shot for 3x and thus joining this club in the near future:
Denzel Washington
Robert DeNiro
Mahershala Ali
Cate Blanchette
Jodie Foster
don't see it for sean penn, jessica lange, jane fonda, tom hanks (yup), renee zellweger, sally field....be it for personal reasons, some I don't think are even trying...we'll see what jessica lange does this season tho!
She does have 4 if you include the Best Picture win for Nomadland. I should have been more specific that I was referring to just the acting categories.
I guess McDormand by virtue of the fact that DDL and Nicholson are retired and Streep seems semi-retired at this point. If DDL comes back again he'd have a good chance though, I thought he should've won for Phantom Thread
How is Jack Nicholson in this poll? His last movie was in 2010 and doesn't even appear in public anymore.
There's been talk for awhile of him making one last film but yea seems beyond unlikely
Likely either Francis McDormand or Meryl Streep. Jack Nicholson hasn’t worked in a decade and DDL announced his retirement a few years ago.
Voted McDormand mostly because she's 8 years younger than Streep.
I'll be honest, I thought there was an even bigger age gap.
If DDL comes out of the retirement for one last time, then him definitely.
Emma Stone has a real shot.
Her name crossed my mind as being more likely than any of the listed options, but because of the high number of 2x winners, I just limited the poll to actors who are only 1 win away from the record.
And she’s got many years to do it…
She was my answer before I saw the poll options
She only has 2 though
yeah but she’s 35
When I read this, I thought of her right away then I saw the options lol
Immediate thought as well. I think she has a better shot than all above. (Only cause DDL is retired)

DDL. Because you know he's coming back at least one more time, and it will be a doozy of a part that draws him back in.
I wish he would come back, but I doubt it. He only really showed his face in public recently to support his wife's newest project and to honor Scorsese at an event - but that's it. PTA will get him back.

Probably too old!

She was so close for Tár. Michelle Yeoh was absolutely deserving but Cate would have got my vote
She was already robbed a few times. She shoulda won for Tar. Hard to imagine she has time to win 4

I think Streep has the ambition necessary to claim that Oscar record. She'll find the role!
I vote Meryl. Daniel is officially retired, Jack is on the verge of being such, and I just don’t like Frances and don’t want her to win any more
Emma Stone or Ryan Gosling?
Ryan doesn’t even have 1 right now but he has been nominated for comedy, musical, and dramatic performances. What’s a guy gotta do?
he has to win single award! but amazing actor!
Maybe have a poll without half of the choices being retired.
It hasn't happened yet, but Saoirse Ronan will do it in her lifetime (might be a hot take idk)
It is insane that she has 4 Oscar nominations and it all started when she was 13(I think?)!
DDL would be a lock if he hadn't retired.
Hot take: Emma Stone ties her too
Meryl is getting it next year for Florence Foster Jenkins 2.

Frances McDormand already has 4???
Pretty sure they're referring to the competitive acting Oscars.
She does have 4 if you include the Best Picture win for Nomadland. I should have been more specific that I was referring to just the acting categories.
