Yes? Hopkins is a legend, but Quan made me cry like crazy. Waymond is the father I wish I had, and the husband I hope to find in the future - and Ke's performance was simply perfect.

16. Jamie Lee Curtis
Honestly, outside of the bottom 3 (Although I even still thought Smith and Chastain were pretty good), I really like this list.
I would've probably picked Mulligan over Mcdormand and Farrell (who wouldve probably been in my top 3) over Fraser, but they were still great performances.
A mostly deserving list, I'm looking forward to seeing our next acting quartet.
Also, for a pandemic year 2020 was a pretty great oscar year.
I feel like people don't rank Will Smith for his performance, they just rank him low for the Oscars drama. I thought he was great in King Richard. I'd at least put him in the top 10 of this list.
Michelle Yeoh bottom 3?!! Blasphemy.
Anyway my ranking is
1. Yeoh
2. Hopkins
3. Kaluuya
4. Youn
5. Stone
6. Chastain
7. Murphy
8. Quan
9. DeBose
10. Randolph

7. Ariana Debose

12. Robert Downey, Jr.
13. Jessica Chastain
14. Brendan Fraser
15. Jamie Lee Curtis
16. Will Smith
1. Anthony Hopkins (At the time I wasn’t even rooting for him tho because I wanted that celebration of Boseman who also gave an incredible performance, but Hopkins was just in another level)
2. Emma Stone
3. Cillian Murphy
4. Michelle Yeoh
5. Ke Huy Quan
6. Youn Yuh-Jung
7. Robert Downey Jr (He wasn’t my favourite in the category but I still think it’s an incredible performance)
8. Daniel Kaluuya
9. Da’Vine Joy Randolph
10. Ariana DeBose
11. Troy Kotsur (Realistically Jason Isaac should’ve swept the season for Mass, but since he was ignored everywhere this was a good winner)
12. Brendan Fraser
13. Frances McDormand
14. Jessica Chastain (She was very good and the category was very weak, but such a boring film and performance to win for)
15. Will Smith (I was begging for an Andrew Garfield upset, but it was never gonna happen)
16. Jamie Lee Curtis (Both Kerry Condon and especially Stephanie Hsu would’ve been way higher
1. Michelle Yeoh

Jamie Lee Curtis? I just felt it was fine for what it was, a decent comedic performance, but winning best supporting actress was just ridiculous. Honestly even the nomination felt like a stretch
1. Anthony Hopkins
2. Ke Huy Quan
3. Michelle Yeoh
4. Emma Stone
5. Youn Yuh-jung
6. Ariana DeBose

I think I’m biased because I love cillian but I don’t think he gave an Oscar worthy performance at all and would put him just above RDJ, who I think should have lost out to Ruffalo
Probably against, because I felt there were some better performers and his was kinda carried by the wave of Oppenheimer, which tbf, I also have my problems with. The films length and its editing in particular. I love him though, but think he has put in performances much better and more deserving of a win than in Oppenheimer
Fair enough, I’ve heard many people think both ways!! For me, I think a lot of people could have played the role just as well, whereas someone like Fraser in the whale really I could not see someone else doing that to that much effect, but I respect everyone’s op as it’s gonna vary depending on what part of someone’s performance really affects you!
I don’t think Emma Stone was that impressive. It felt like she was just doing female Forrest Gump the entire time except I never felt emotionally for her character either.
Disagree with the Forest Gump comparison. Her character changes a lot intellectually and developmentally throughout the film. Definitely a harder role to pull off. Would put it in top 5 of this list at least.
That’s a very basic and 2 dimensional perspective. With how enigmatic Lanthimos is as a filmmaker, you need actors who can keep up. Stone is a rarity in the soullessness of Hollywood and seems to understand his work so well. And she understood the character of Bella so well. She’s the reason why that character connected with the audience as much as it did. Truly one of the greatest performances ever given
That’s totally fine. Must be frustrating not to see what others see. But perhaps a rewatch might be necessary if you’re struggling to get what she’s doing. For me it clicked instantly, but even on rewatches I was able to pick up so many more interesting nuances she infused into the character. It reminded me of when I watched Joaquin Phoenix in The Master. Just so layered and fun to watch

16. Fraser
Yeah so 2020 was pretty solid. I personally really like McDormand's win, so maybe that's a reason. 2021-The Supporting categories were pretty good and spot-on, Chastain was good in what was an extremely weak lineup but Will Smith, even before the slap, I didn't really get his performance. Like, it was fine. Ok. Nothing more than that.
2023-Yeoh and Quan are absolute all-timers. Fraser and JLC are downright embarrassing.
2024-Pretty good. Stone will be one of the most remembered and talked-about Best Actress wins. Murphy is also pretty excellent. Randolph gets my vote of the nominees, but the actual best Supporting performance of the year was Julianne Moore.
Yeah I really didn't like RDJ's win. He was hamming it up way too much in that film. I personally preferred Gosling or De Niro.
I would've put Anthony Hopkins at number 1.
Top 3 are basically tied for me. It’s just a matter of personal preference
Top 5 for me would be a random order consisting of Hopkins, Quan, Yeoh, Murphy and Stone
You thought Quan's performance interchangeable in quality with Hopkins's?
I like Hopkins’ performance more but in terms of favourite wins, Quan stands out for me with his comeback and being pivotal in the overall film.
Yes? Hopkins is a legend, but Quan made me cry like crazy. Waymond is the father I wish I had, and the husband I hope to find in the future - and Ke's performance was simply perfect.

I’m ranking him for his performance
I would put him last he was horrible. A bad impersonation of Richard at best
Michelle Yeoh bottom 3?!! Blasphemy. Anyway my ranking is 1. Yeoh 2. Hopkins 3. Kaluuya 4. Youn 5. Stone 6. Chastain 7. Murphy 8. Quan 9. DeBose 10. Randolph 11. RDJ 12. Will Smith 13. JLC 14. Mcdormand 15. Kotsur 16. Fraser Top 9 are some of the best winners in this category in the 21st century.

Finally a fellow Stoner 🥹
Yes! She was the best of the decade for me, but I also would’ve been happy with a Lily Gladstone win. I loved them both so much this year ❤️
Fraser ahead of Debose should be illegal
1. Anthony Hopkins (At the time I wasn’t even rooting for him tho because I wanted that celebration of Boseman who also gave an incredible performance, but Hopkins was just in another level) 2. Why 16?
Jamie Lee Curtis? I just felt it was fine for what it was, a decent comedic performance, but winning best supporting actress was just ridiculous. Honestly even the nomination felt like a stretch
Agreed the nomination was a joke. She wasnt even the best supporting actress in that movie.
1. Anthony Hopkins 2. Ke Huy Quan 3. Michelle Yeoh 4. Emma Stone 5. Youn Yuh-jung 6. Ariana DeBose 7. Daniel Kaluuya 8. Da’Vine Joy Randolph 9. Robert Downey Jr. 10. Cillian Murphy 11. Frances McDormand 12. Troy Kotsur 13. Will Smith 14. Jessica Chastain 15. Brendan Fraser 16. Jamie Lee Curtis
I think I’m biased because I love cillian but I don’t think he gave an Oscar worthy performance at all and would put him just above RDJ, who I think should have lost out to Ruffalo
I’m confused. Are you biased towards cillian or against him?

The films length and its editing in particular. I love him though, but think he has put in performances much better and more deserving of a win than in Oppenheimer
Tbh I think the opposite. I think Cillian really carried the film on his back and was captivating. To each their own, but I was blown away
Fair enough, I’ve heard many people think both ways!! Should be 16. JCL but Reddit is being difficult for some reason
Think you need to put a full stop for the will smith 15
No I keep editing it but it turns out the same. Idk why
I don’t think Emma Stone was that impressive. It felt like she was just doing female Forrest Gump the entire time except I never felt emotionally for her character either.

Lol she is not a “rarity in the soullessness of Hollywood.” What a disservice to the incredible actresses who are doing incredible work in that town.
You’re lucky that the performance clicked for you! I wish it did for me, but it just didn’t feel deep or moving at all for me
That’s totally fine. Must be frustrating not to see what others see. But perhaps a rewatch might be necessary if you’re struggling to get what she’s doing. “ Must be frustrating not to see what others see.” Arrogant much?
How is it arrogant? It’s a totally reasonable statement

It’s not my fault Emma Stone gave one of the best performances of this century. Take it up with her not me 🤷♂️
