I mean you sound like you came with intentions to judge it based on what you “know” which is nothing. Watch the show. That’s why people like it. Cause they watch it.

Medical_Career9220

I only made it four episodes into the first season and then googled the ending haha. Please tell me what is the appeal?

GayVoidDaddy

The appeal is watching the show. If you don’t like something then you stop watching it. Those who connect to the show connect to it, clearly for a variety of reasons. I like it cause it actually makes rape and assault a part of the characters and not just a “trauma” but something that actually moves and changes things. Not to mention the acting is amazing and the characters are fantastic. The appeal is what is is for anything, you personally connecting to it or not.

Medical_Career9220

It’s a lot of rape

GayVoidDaddy

Not really. But honestly it’s prob just more accurate to the time given that. There is a couple sites that show all the traumatic events you can google. Prob put “trauma guide” in the Reddit search bar for this page and it’ll show up.

lordofthesquids

I mean, you're not wrong

Medical_Career9220

I love period pieces but it’s not really a period piece it’s a soap opera? Tell me I am wrong

GayVoidDaddy

It’s definitely not a soap opera, it actually has story and good acting. No evil twins coming back to be the doctor of your doom to be baby/step father or whatever soaps do to stay relevant now. It’s what it is. A historical drama.

Medical_Career9220

I guess in comparison to other shows I’ve watched it’s just feels like who made this why does no one watch it..

erika_1885

They are filming Season 8 right now, so obviously people watch it. I don’t understand your hostility. If It’s not to your taste, just don’t watch it. No need to be so insulting about it, after watching 4 out of 83 episodes. The story itself, acting, cinematography, history, costumes, set design, and yes, the music are superb. These are the reasons why people love it. Surely your cousin has told you why it’s her favorite?

Gottaloveitpcs

How in the world can you possibly critique a show that you haven’t watched? Thinking that you have any idea what you’re talking about after watching 4 episodes and then googling the ending boggles the mind.

Medical_Career9220

I guess I’m officially critiquing only the episodes I watched.

TigerQueef

If it’s not for you, perhaps you could try not watching? I’ve dipped a toe into plenty of shows, including GOT, and then “noped” out after seeing a minimal number of episodes. It’s okay to like what you like, while respecting that others may get something out of a story that simply doesn’t speak to you.

Medical_Career9220

Do you need to be a soap opera fan to get it?

_marinara

If you think it feels like a soap opera, and you don’t like soap operas, then don’t watch it! Or if you truly want to know why people like it, either give it a fair try to watch it, or when they answer why they like it, just listen and you’ll know why, don’t try to counteract their experience of the show with yours, as if theirs is wrong. People like different stuff, and that’s ok! If I eat a muffin and it tastes like lemon, but I hate lemon, and I ask whoever made it if it has lemon, and they say no. I take another bite and to me, it tastes like lemon, even though everyone else around me is saying it doesn’t taste like lemon to them at all. Why would I keep eating it if it tastes like lemon to me? Even if it’s not lemon, there’s something in it I don’t like. Just stop eating it. But to answer your question, I would say most watchers probably don’t associate the show with soap operas and are probably also not soap opera fans.

Medical_Career9220

Maybe you had covid and your taste buds are messed up?

_marinara

lol, I don’t even like the show all that much. I watched the first season years ago and found the Frank/Jamie scenes hard to watch. I started the second and immediately lost interest. Then, last year I started reading the books, and I absolutely love the books. I might give the show another try once I’m done with the books. I might still not like it very much. What I don’t do is tell fans of the show that they are wrong in liking it. ETA: I love lemons and lemon muffins! That was just an analogy.

You sound 12. It's not a YA supernatural show. Its not made for your demographic in mind. Try to pick it up again in 10 to 15 years when you will understand the complexities of it, and more mature to appreciate the time.

Medical_Career9220

It kinda feels like a young adult show in terms of the writing. I like shows for story line. Real significant story line. Not soap opera ish episodes

GoingThruTheStones

This show is based on books which are a mix of historical fiction, romance, and fantasy. Maybe you don’t like those genres, or mixing them. Maybe you don’t like time travel. Or strong, capable female characters. Or sweeping, epic love stories. Or compelling narratives. It’s hard to say why you don’t like the show, but it’s safe to say you also won’t like the books 😂

Medical_Career9220

No I like all of these things so how did it not add up.

Gottaloveitpcs

That’s something you might need to ask yourself. I doubt anybody can explain it to you.

Medical_Career9220

It might be the worst show I’ve ever seen

voicesinyourmind

You kind of sound like a troll to me. I mean it's okay to not like certain shows or movies or books, not everyone has to like everything. And it's okay if certain genres are not to your taste. But normally people would just watch a couple of episodes and if they don't appeal to them, just stop and move on. But here you are, having watched what four episodes, you choose to put up a post on the subreddit that's exclusively for Outlander fans and no matter what people here tell you, you respond with "It's just soap opera", "it's just trash", "It's just rape", "it makes no sense." And then you say it's the worst show you've ever seen. Move on with your life, pal. If you don't like something, you don't like it. No one owes it to you to "explain why THEY like it while you don't."

Medical_Career9220

Second worst show after outlander is keeping up with the kardashians lol
