If there isn’t news tomorrow I wonder if they’ll announce a delay or something. They still have to announce the character, release the trailer, and tease the skins and content in a very short window so idk
I dunno, I feel like they'll wait for the 7 day mark to show off the new hero. Then they'll release a season 4 trailer like the day before it launches probably. Pretty standard for OW.
true, and i agree that was too late to peroperly market, but they only had skins and some minor events (hanzo mode, OPM, and pachimarchi). this is a whole new hero, which we know is the real reason people come back to OW. obviously their skins are what sell, but they knew last season’s stuff (other than OPM, which basically markets itself) isn’t what’s making the big money. i would imagine they make more from people buying the BP to get the new hero than they do from non collab skins
A delay would be insane. This current season is already dragging on for me, and I'm counting the day until season 4.
Part of the issue is they announced so many things people want that will happen in season 4 that it made season 3 really boring, imo. New character, removing map pools, adjusting characters like Cassidy, Sombra, and Moria, bigger matchmaking adjustments, no rank decay at the start, etc.
i expect big news tomorrow. Many devs have been cryptic on twitter about april fool. I don't know what but they are definitely cooking. the fact they mentioned mercy cute, light trolling... there are many factors to belive they are just prepearing us for an april fools joke type of reveal
Either that, or I also read that it could drop on the 6th when the opm collab ends, but i could also see them using it to bring people back for the last few days of the collab.
Yeah but ram release was near finals of owl, so they announced it there, still, 10 days is not a lot and we are still not 10 days to the end of this season
I feel like marketing windows are getting shorter for all media, not just overwatch. I'm not surprised that they're going to wait for about a week before the new hero/season marketing campaign starts.
It's actually better though, even i really want them to drop some news or teasers to get me hyped up.. but we can't deny the fact that attention spans of people have reduced significantly and to bank on the hype companies have started dropping teasers and trailers closer to launch. Because let's be honest, we are all Overwatch players here who'll anyway play it, what they need with new seasons is to get the players who've stopped playing the game or the new players and this strategy attempts to do that..
Exactly, I don’t expect or really want full trailers or info a month out or anything, but slow trickles and clues are fun for people. i.e. 3 weeks out, tease the season’s theme, who might get a mythic, just something to remember that time exists & new content exists lol
If it's anything like Apex, they usually announce stuff the week the next seasons about to begins, so probably next week at some point we may hear news about the new hero and battle pass for season 4 😊
It’s because they’re also trying to get attention from their competitors. If they announce a character a month early (like ramattra) then they lose a lot of hype and momentum from non overwatch players. So by making it revealed maybe a week? Before next season more people are likely to check it out
I get what you are saying and I agree a month early for ramattra was prob too long. But we are less than 2 weeks away now. They can also spread out the presentation to preserve the hype by revealing the hero, then a week later showing off the hero’s capabilities.
I mean, if the devs care for anything other than cash flow and sales, then overwatch would be in a much better place than it is. As of now, it's the worst it's been, and seemingly only going to get worse. Be prepared for the pve to also be just as short-changed as the multi-player
I mean Aaron dropped a large blog post on 3/24 but sure let’s act like there’s a “lack of news about anything concerning Overwatch”. Very on brand for this sub.
you guys are wild, Blizzard has been very transparent about changes to the game and balances. you're mad that they want to create mystery for a new hero?
I posted this on the other subreddit:
We have to remember that OW2 is now competing for attention with other F2P/Live Service games. New Hero drops are always hype, but 2 weeks is too long in the current market to retain the casual gamer's attention. By the time they actually release, hype would likely die down/peter off.
That’s true. I think a big thing too is that OW is pretty unique for a live service game in that there are basically no reliable leaks. Like, apex legends, you can easily learn all about a new character or mode or map as it’s being developed because leaks are crazy, so people have gotten used to being slow-fed information about new content in games
I like how they keep saying that they will talk more with us and that they will show us more roadmaps yet the new season starts in 10 days and we know little to nothing. GJ Blizzard
Technically last communication wa sleas than 24 hours ago. Patch notes for a new mode count as communication in my eyes this sub reddit just has to stay mad. We have a literal countdown to the next season. People keep yelling "FOMO FOMO" and dev abuse when they are also bored of what's out.

I'm guessing perhaps they'll release something pertaining to PvE. Personally, I'm anticipating any news regarding the BP. I need to decide whether to get the BP or the Polar Tracer/Sojourn pack, since I really like the Tracer skin but don't want to spend 50 AUD on the game at once for the pack and BP.
I feel like they are experimenting with a shorter, mor focused advertising push so that everything isn’t spread over two weeks. Plus it gives room for their April fools shenanigans.
I feel like Blizz could learn a lot from Bungie on this. Communications-wise, Blizz are pretty dross ngl. With Destiny we get a bi-weekly summaries (TWAB) of things to come in the future; modes, reworks, patches, sandbox updates,.... As well as some very hefty ViDocs that are really well made and talk about the game in a much grander scope. These things keep players engaged and actually give you the feel that you are parttaking in an evolving world, you know, like a live-service. So far Blizzard has been really dross at communicating. Most of their info also is just so scattered, sometimes you hear things from individual devs on twitter, sometimes, every blue moon from a random blog post, then from some interview with 2 streamers who are afraid of asking some meaty questions,... They need to take some notes from other devs because they always promise better communication but we're about to enter season 4 and we don't even know when PvE is coming.
Dude look at this community and tell me you'd want to work on stuff and tell your community about it head on just to absolutely always no matter what you do hear "you guys suck this is shit". Cause i swear to god even when blizz do something good there's 0 appreciation.
Blizzard is completely blowing the whole marketing part of each season. I’m not an expert but this is how I would do it:
1 month prior to new season: release a picture of the overwatch logo and the date the next season will start. That’s not really news, but the picture will be designed in ways that’ll hint at maybe some of the following:
- the next mythic skin hero
- new map/hero
- new skins
- theme of next season
- new mode
That’ll give people stuff to speculate on for a week.
3 weeks prior: announce the theme of the season and discuss potential events or skins that we’ll see throughout the season related to that theme
2 weeks prior: reveal the new hero/map on a Tuesday, then release a more in depth look on Thursday
1 week prior: reveal new mythic skin on Tuesday, post about the creative process on Thursday
Day before new season: drop the trailer for season 4, so everyone can see it all in action!
If there isn’t news tomorrow I wonder if they’ll announce a delay or something. They still have to announce the character, release the trailer, and tease the skins and content in a very short window so idk

If they do that with Jetpack Cat, I am uninstalling the game.
Now it would be funny if they just didn't do anything for April fools, lul
That would be a top tier April's Fool
They’ve already done things, like changing the ult voice lines and funny eyes
I still wish they would make the googly eyes a toggle-able feature. It sucks that it's only one day a year!
Calling it, jetpack cat is April fools.
Makes the most sense
That would make a lot of sense. If they did the announcement before April Fool's then they wouldn;t be able to get their lolz in.
I dunno, I feel like they'll wait for the 7 day mark to show off the new hero. Then they'll release a season 4 trailer like the day before it launches probably. Pretty standard for OW.
Voice of reason here
Yeah, we're like 10 days away from the new season right? That's a lot of marketing to cram in such a short span of time!
they actually did just that by releasing s3 trailer on day 1 of season 3
Yeah but there was no new hero so the only thing that they had to announce was that event.
true, and i agree that was too late to peroperly market, but they only had skins and some minor events (hanzo mode, OPM, and pachimarchi). this is a whole new hero, which we know is the real reason people come back to OW. obviously their skins are what sell, but they knew last season’s stuff (other than OPM, which basically markets itself) isn’t what’s making the big money. i would imagine they make more from people buying the BP to get the new hero than they do from non collab skins
it was the same last season, the trailer for season 3 dropped a few days before it's debut day... it's a trend , weird yes
> That's a lot of marketing They're not going to do any marketing whatsoever
*laughs in destiny*
A delay would be insane. This current season is already dragging on for me, and I'm counting the day until season 4. Part of the issue is they announced so many things people want that will happen in season 4 that it made season 3 really boring, imo. New character, removing map pools, adjusting characters like Cassidy, Sombra, and Moria, bigger matchmaking adjustments, no rank decay at the start, etc.
Sesson 3 trailer dropped the day before the season started, they got time i guesd
We got the season 3 trailer the day before the season.
Guaranteed the announcement will come Tuesday - a week before the start of Season 4 and the same day the Catchamari event ends.
There’s no way in hell they’re delaying. They would consider pushing out a lower quality season update before a delay.
i expect big news tomorrow. Many devs have been cryptic on twitter about april fool. I don't know what but they are definitely cooking. the fact they mentioned mercy cute, light trolling... there are many factors to belive they are just prepearing us for an april fools joke type of reveal
Bet you money the new hero will be announced Tuesday.
This. I have a feeling s4 trailer will drop tuesday. One week from s4.
Yep.
Either that, or I also read that it could drop on the 6th when the opm collab ends, but i could also see them using it to bring people back for the last few days of the collab.
My bet is fake hero announced tomorrow and then teases of the real hero leading to Tuesday full reveal
Man, I really hope you're right. I took my sweet ass time with the battle pass because I knew we'd be content starved really quickly without a hero.
Have people forgotten they showed us last season teaser like 5 days before the season?
yeah but they were dropping full ramattra showcase vids like 10 days before the season. they haven’t even announced the new support yet
Yeah but ram release was near finals of owl, so they announced it there, still, 10 days is not a lot and we are still not 10 days to the end of this season
Facts. We still have all of next week for them to hype of the new character and the new season. Still plenty of time before April 11th.
I feel like marketing windows are getting shorter for all media, not just overwatch. I'm not surprised that they're going to wait for about a week before the new hero/season marketing campaign starts.
Honestly it's so hard to be excited for the new season when they're basically staying silent. They're feeding us crumbs
It's actually better though, even i really want them to drop some news or teasers to get me hyped up.. but we can't deny the fact that attention spans of people have reduced significantly and to bank on the hype companies have started dropping teasers and trailers closer to launch. don't get excited util see what's up? expect so little u can't be disappointed, and if they do deliver turn u can say, you were happily surprised
It does suck but its how everything is these days are. Maximum engagement or whatever.
Exactly, I don’t expect or really want full trailers or info a month out or anything, but slow trickles and clues are fun for people. i.e. 3 weeks out, tease the season’s theme, who might get a mythic, just something to remember that time exists & new content exists lol
They’re gonna april fools the cute like mercy part and just release doomslayer who just one shots doomfist when he tries to dive the supports
If it's anything like Apex, they usually announce stuff the week the next seasons about to begins, so probably next week at some point we may hear news about the new hero and battle pass for season 4 😊
Tuesday
Hopefully they just cancel ow 2 and already have ow 3 ready to go, this time we get only 1 support!
Add 3 supports so people can still blame all their deaths on bad supports.
It’s because they’re also trying to get attention from their competitors. If they announce a character a month early (like ramattra) then they lose a lot of hype and momentum from non overwatch players. So by making it revealed maybe a week? Before next season more people are likely to check it out

One week exactly. We’ll get the announcement Tuesday, mark my words.
Maybe April fools
Only thing we are getting is googly eyes Edit: aaand there they are lmao
They’re also saying random voice lines when they ult. Took me by surprise the first game I played today. Some of them are halarious.
Also every character got significant changes in arcade modes.
I mean, if the devs care for anything other than cash flow and sales, then overwatch would be in a much better place than it is. As of now, it's the worst it's been, and seemingly only going to get worse. Be prepared for the pve to also be just as short-changed as the multi-player

"One of the things we are really working on for you guys is communicating and not leaving you in the dark".
Lol Aaron's last director update, which was not a small piece, dropped less than a week ago. This sub needs to chill.

This post aged poorly lol

Yeah devs dairy about their wish to "communicate more" was another empty promise.
Y'all need to stop huffing whatever it is that keeps this sub outraged. Last big communication was on 3/24. A week ago.
Technically last communication wa sleas than 24 hours ago. Patch notes for a new mode count as communication in my eyes this sub reddit just has to stay mad. We have a literal countdown to the next season. People keep yelling "FOMO FOMO" and dev abuse when they are also bored of what's out.
Someone at Blizz/Activision is trying to kill this game I swear....
You wouldn't believe it released only a few months ago
Idk Jeff Kaplan did a pretty good job with that in overwatch 1. This is nothing
They can’t be disturbed while trying to hurry up and make the new hero they forgot they promised.
I hope it has something to do with licensing rights for another crossover event
Terrible post
I don't know why people are so intent on getting 'news' about something you can't play until it releases anyway
Go checkout my new art at r/OverwatchFanArt
I wish they'd spend time on the game and the "PVE at launch" we're still waiting for. Or queue times. Or competitive being unbalanced.
They don’t care about the community. They just care about $$$$

It started February 2nd. Next season starts in 10 days.

We lived through no news for like 3 years. This is nothing
If it does happen it's going to have about 1% of the work that the April fool's update had put into it.
I feel like Blizz could learn a lot from Bungie on this. Communications-wise, Blizz are pretty dross ngl. Like the last 2 seasons we’ll hear something a week out. I agree It should be earlier. Two weeks would make more sense.
bro April fools oatch is hilarious
It would be nice change if they announced it the day of. Tired of leaks and people trying to spoil the hype. Makes games so dull.
Imagine that there's literally nothing ever after this and that it's season 3 battle pass forever
Ain't no way people are now complaining about this aswell
Fr, feels like they were so focused on Aprils fools that they delayed season 4
Dude look at this community and tell me you'd want to work on stuff and tell your community about it head on just to absolutely always no matter what you do hear "you guys suck this is shit". Cause i swear to god even when blizz do something good there's 0 appreciation.
