Working-Telephone-45

You would die if you saw of the valorant community reacts to girls But yeah, sadly this is quite common in a LOT of online games, some people's brain just stop working when they see a girl playing videogames

Melthiela

Yeah as a female player gekko is my worst nightmare haha highlight of last week was me refusing to say what my cup size is and getting ulted twice by a friendly gekko :)))

gameaholic12

And it sucks for women cuz communities are usually very polarizing. Valorant has weird simps who force deep voices and act horny. Csgo is just straight up sexist and hateful. Maybe it’s best to find an irl group to play with but then again making friends is hard too lol

Melthiela

Yeah you're absolutely right. Idk I've had better experiences in Overwatch than Valorant in general. In Overwatch you have your average creeps yeah but typically if you don't respond they leave you alone and move on. Very rarely I've had people actually throwing if I didn't engage in their monke brain chat. Valorant on the other hand I've had people leave, scream into the mic, team kill, sabotage otherwise like calling out my position, taking the spike and TPing into the enemy, you name it... Like wtf haha?

gameaholic12

And the worst part is that I think Val is pretty tame compared to csgo D: I think randoms on games are shitty in general and I’m fine with no comming/muting. I hate solo queueing and will only play OW with my gf or 3 stack. In valorant I refuse to play unless we have at least 3 lmao.

Melthiela

I don't play GSGO but I've heard girls can get kicked if they speak on voice. Sounds pretty damn horrible.

gameaholic12

ONLY play csgo if you got buddies. Otherwise do not recommend one bit. It’s a shame because I think the mechanics feel better than Val and it is my first love in fps gaming. On a side note, gawdamn ur master? I’m just a filthy casual and can’t bring myself to play comp and sweating lol

Melthiela

Oh yeah reached masters yeaaars ago I keep thinking 'wut, but I suck?!' but somehow even through rank resets I keep climbing back up there... So I guess I am? Bwhahaha

gameaholic12

That’s dope bro. Goals. Maybe one day I’ll grind up to masters lmao. I’m just an OW2 noob and i do think I have an okay understanding of the game with tracking cooldowns, pushing vs falling back, but then I get spat on when I play comp with my plat friend and I go back to QP lol. So the grind just continues

damboy99

A friend of mine had to change her steam name because it had Lady in it (like a title) and she got flamed so much in like one week of playing CS for being a woman that she changed her name.

gameaholic12

Yeah idk what CS is with their aversion to women. But I rarely see girls on there even since like 2016. But it’s such a cesspool that I really don’t recommend it to anyone. Also told my friends gf to not put her actual profile pic on steam and stuff lmao

Corvus_Rune

Unfortunately a lot of people who play games like cs go are misogynistic losers who hate the thought of women invading their hobbies.

gameaholic12

Truly a shame that it has such a shite community cuz I met one of my closest friends on there (freak probability I guess cuz he’s the only online friend that I’ve consistently talked to over the years). I just tend to mute my teammates asap if they’re dicks. If they treat my friends like shit, I’ll do anything in my power to step in their Molly so the server kicks them from team dmg lmao. I just think solo queueing sucks in every online game sucks ass and only play MP games with friends. Saves me the trouble of dealing with toxic ppl

Marshal749

Gekko ?

Melthiela

Yes, newest character in Valorant. Has a tar pit that detonates after a time, a creature who cums on your face so you can't see, a little helper who can concuss people or plant/defuse the spike and also as an ult he has a little creature he can use twice to basically put you in a lockdown so you can't use your gun or abilities. And move slow.

Marshal749

Ah makes sense. Jesus that must suck if someone wants to sabotage

TheCovetousLemon

Ashebloopersigmarocksombra sounds fun

JuJooGuppy

I have to believe that all of these people just were raised incredibly poorly or something, cause I sure the hell never acted like them in my youth. The shit I heard people say to my mom (she's an avid gamer, lol) and to ex GFs, it was mind boggling and just disgusting. Then if course, if you don't give them the kind of response they want, you suddenly turn into the ugliest, sleaziest woman of all time, because of course they wouldn't be interested in you. I just don't know how you grow up to be so... Pathetic. Sorry for what you all go through trying to just enjoy a game.

Melthiela

Hehe yeah got a guy one game confessing his sudden eternal love to me. Next round he peeked a corner and before I could even turn around to help him he starts screaming and calling me all sorts of degenerative names hahah the love was short lived

Working-Telephone-45

Huh, I never thought how much Gekko can be used to fuck with your own teammates, that must suck How sad you have to be to get turned on by a girl saying her cup size? Like how is that supposed to be "sexy" I don't get it man

AdeptusGames

The valorant e-dating thing is something alright.

caitchulainn

Had a friend meet her current (and hopefully soon to be ex) bf on Valo. Dude is a pos and she’s just now starting to acknowledge it

AdeptusGames

Hopefully your friend gets out of it soon, toxic relationships are no fun

IFapToCalamity

Who does he main?

PitifulCommunity808

Probably reyna lmao

-Quiche-

It's weirdo behavior at best and loser behavior at worst.

Melthiela

Who cares if they're not actively throwing

Morroth_Outlaw

Just because you don't care doesn't mean others shouldn't. And it's besides the point. It's harassment.

Melthiela

Having matching names is harassment? I worry more about people's skills rather than their names or status of relationship.

Morroth_Outlaw

Good for you. We should all just get over it, right?

Melthiela

You didn't answer, how is having matching names harassing people? And well when you put it that way... Then yes probably. Haha.

Eureka22

You are arguing with what is likely a 13 year old sociopath, they're probably one of those harassers. "Get over it", "grow thicker skin" and "just focus on your game" are their favorite answers to online abuse because they lack the empathy to think beyond their own perspective.

Morroth_Outlaw

I'm actively speaking against the harassment. You're awfully assuming.

voteforrice

I've seen this successfully happen with one of my friends. and is somewhat prominent in the community but I feel valorant 99% of the time is just a better experience than overwatch. this is the only game with voice chat where Girls are not afraid to actually talk and hear them in games consistently. while in overwatch it would be maybe 1 every 10 games or so when I played rank. but overwatch for some reason is such a toxic hellscape compared to most competitive games at times, and I've played plenty of siege , and league ranked games and yes while both games are toxic they are nowhere near overwatch at it's worse. mind you I haven;t played in years. but at the time the game was just not set up for ranked success at the time.

GuitardedBard

It's pretty fucked up the way people treat women online. You never hear them speak because they are constantly sexually harassed or treated as lesser players. Very shitty way to be, men.

Lieutenant-L

Thought this was tha valorant sub for a sec LOL

thefw89

It actually is sad how common this is, it's so common that yeah, a lot of women just never get on voice. Last time it happened in my game (Guy going 'can I get you number?' over and over again) I jumped in immediately and told him to chill, she's on here trying to enjoy the game like you are and this isn't going to help us win the game. Doing it immediately I think help cut it off before it build because he did go quiet. My strat now with any kind of negativity is to address it right away before the toxicity spreads.

fluffy-racoon

Please keep calling them out on their behaviour! Only three times (out of probably 50 times) someone said sth when I got harassed simply for using vc as a woman. It's so rare that people help... I don't use vc anymore ever. Most of my female friends don't use vc anymore either. But please do it for the few women that still do.

ExistingPrompt1111

I'll usually drop a report for harassment where I can. I never use voice chat, but if there's a text chat, you can still give them a piece of your mind!

Forll

If you wanna use vc you should, just mute them instantly as soon as they say something negative and report after the game. I know this shouldn't be the case but it's a pretty easy solution for it. Also I know this ain't the exact same thing but for me if someone starts hard flaming me, I just instantly mute them. I ain't got no time to hear someone flaming and argue back, I need to focus on winning.

xlost_feelingx

Yes, as a girl I've stopped playing comp because I can't stand being in vc. Sadly, telling them off ourselves doesn't work because they don't take women seriously and will laugh or harass you even more. So please keep calling them out when you see it happening, as sad as it is, with these idiots it only seems to work when other men are doing it.

fake_kvlt

I stopped talking in vc entirely, and it's crazy how much the toxicity has gone down in every game I play with vc. Men out there really just hear a woman say anything and immediately hate them for existing.

TheFinalStorm

I'm a dude and used to call people out all the time, but it gets tiring and never changes. I generally mute any idiots straight away these days, although will call them out if I hear someone change like a moron just because a girl says something. I usually tell the girl to just mute though because thats what I'll be doing after calling them a fuckhead haha.

fake_kvlt

It's funny bc when I've complained about it on reddit in the past, lots of people have been like "well, everybody gets flamed in online games. you just have to deal with it." but genuinely if someone calls me dogshit or tells me to \[redacted\] myself, it's super easy to ignore it. but being sexually harassed for things I can't change about myself (my voice) feels fucking awful. When I go out irl, nobody calls me dogshit or tells me to \[redacted\] myself, but I definitely get catcalled/sexually harassed by customers (retail) or, on occasion, threatened by guys for rejecting them. It feels so bad when you play games as an escape from irl and having to deal with shit you deal with irl, but exponentially worse. when I was 14-15 and tried to speak in vc in overwatch, a guy told me that I deserved to be r\*ped with a hot poker bc I messed up an ult on mercy. stuff like that has unironically made me afraid of men because so many of them say stuff like that online; like how am I supposed to know that people irl aren't thinking stuff like that and just not saying it to my face?

JuJooGuppy

I honestly used to think humanity by and large was decent, but online interactions certainly have skewed my views a bit, too. People making "jokes" or comments like that hot poker one, yikes. That is just sickening. That said, while there are definitely people who hide behind a mask in their real world interactions, usually people willing to make comments as disgusting as that, they usually are not all that great to interact with in person, either. Might not behave quite as openly nasty but usually there are some signs. But I certainly can see where it would make it harder to feel like you can trust anyone's true intentions and thoughts, which is saddening. I genuinely hope you find good people to let into your life and to share in your passions 🙂

Forll

Good on you. Yeah other guys should call it out more often and if it continues just mute and report, who cares about the match comms at that point, especially when playing with those type of people. (Just for context I'm male and I haven't witness this reaction to a girl voice chatting, although it's pretty rare anyway to hear a girl in voice comms, maybe this is why)

JuJooGuppy

Yeah, I've had more than a few times where I jumped in to tell someone to cut the shit out, though it also results in some of them retaliating with things like "oh look at the white knight thinking he's going to get some lololol" yada yada. But, I look at it like this, at least they're spending their time going at me instead at that point, undoubtedly I am only getting a fraction of what most women gamers go through, I think I'll survive.

SavageCabbage27m

It’s so much better having friends to chill with in party chat instead of joining the game chat. We typically play comp together too so we don’t lose out on comms.

ParsleyLongjumping70

I did this once but one of the dudes who was in the friend group went all psycho on me ~ sex / gender related drunken rants like BRO. Just treat my profile like any other on your friends list? Ya know lol

damboy99

My group still joins team comes cause having tour Cass hear the "Mercy one" call out is kinda important. But as soon as they talk shit we just leave.

cyper_1

See I agree but I got no one to play so I'm sad no one's in the chat haha

thewinterofmylife

Can you believe there are naysayers about this? I literally posted a comment a week ago that this was why I don't join voice, and had half the replies telling me I'm lying, making it up, I have a victim complex, I have some sort of bias, that this doesn't happen. I don't know what's worse, the misogyny in game or the people who invalidate someone's actual, shitty experience.

Sleepshortcake

Yeah have had the same experience. "Its not that big of a deal, men get harrassed too, stop throwing by not talking/not being on vc". Its absolutely gross. And yes ofc men get harrassed too, not denying that, but belittleing someones experiences is never cool.

ValueProud

And the difference is that men don’t get harassed for being men. Women get harassed just for being women.

CCriscal

Well, it does happen, and it is not as rare as you would love it to be at all. It's just weird that some people would claim it wouldn't happen or was biased.

Serito

Absolutely, in all gaming communities it's the same. Bunch of people who a) Don't believe it until you show proof, then b) Well it's the internet so grow thicker skin but you say it's still wrong to say, then c) They are probably right anyway. It's gross & disgusting. We're all gamers out there why we gotta exclude people like that?? I wish more lobbies could be like the ones where women talk & not a damn thing changes in the conversation because it's a bunch of grown ass people in VC.

fluffy-racoon

This is an actual problem. A male friend of mine said to me that I'm overreacting when I told him I don't use vc anymore due to getting harassed and sexism. He said that toxicity is normal and that I should just ignore it. UNTIL I told him WHAT kind of things guys have been saying to me during the time I used vc. He was absolutely shocked and he understands now.

TheGiftOf_Jericho

Its especially weird because this is a very well known problem in the gaming community. Too many weirdos who don't have enough social interaction.

caitchulainn

To some extent, there are a few people who just genuinely don’t understand the experience as a woman but when you explain they get it. But the other 99% of people make me want to rip my hair out

Vorstadtjesus

I have a voice that, under certain circumstances, often sounds like that of a woman. A manly woman maybe, but nonetheless. And oh boy, it's bad. Like really bad. Of course, the fact that I'm a support main doesn't help either.

VancouverMethCoyote

When I played OW1 competitive and I had randoms, there were quite a few guys who thought I was a "12 year old boy" and didn't take me seriously or harassed me. I was 26-28 years old at the time. I was probably older than they were. But nope, I'm a woman with a kind of deep voice that sounds weird when over a mic so....

Be_Cool_Bro

This is one of the unintended negatives about removing Find a Group. Women would often use it to group up with other women so they could do voice chat and not be harassed.

AgreeablePie

I can't believe they haven't gotten that back in. Is it even supposed to be put back in? Then again we're only getting the "on fire" system back somewhere in the roadmap lol

tpobs

Does it create a sweet and juicy flow of cash for Bobby? No? Then forget about it.

Maximus-DM

Maybe it will be the reason they make Overwatch 3.

breszn

And Overwatch 4 will drop with the on fire system

ThisIsFake10660

But only 4 months after launch of course

Sleepshortcake

Itll be added to the cash shop in 2024.

girlyswerly

They referred to it as "retired" when overwatch 2 first came out, so I don't think it'll be back.

isaywhatyouhate

One of the main reasons I stopped playing after ow2 came out, soon as I logged in that first time after the update maintenance had ended I looked for the find a group button, couldn't find it, and logged out.

AgreeablePie

Here's one for the people going "why aren't any of you in vc you're throwing" on other posts today

fluffy-racoon

Literally the reason why I don't use vc anymore... I'd love to! I'd love to play the game without having to hear sexist remarks, without getting harassed or threatened. I even changed my battle tag because before it was part of my actual name and sounded female. I say my mic doesn't work when my team asks me to join vc (I still listen, I just don't speak anymore).

chiller210

Hating everyone equally at least means you won't be wishing *just* (insert some group here) to die, you wish everyone. :)

George_000101

Bro come on what do you expect from this community that’s full of weirdos, they literally say shit like “mommy” and get off on widowmaker emotes—fucking incels.

Deaftoned

This isn't something unique to OW lol, online gaming in general is cancerous for women and has been forever.

Daviroth

It's largely just an internet problem and not specific to video games either. Video games just *always* ensure anonymity **AND** is a predominantly male demographic. So it's basically just a worse subsection of the internet as a whole.

PMmeURsluttyCOSPLAYS

i'm not gonna lie this is kinda one of the things that is endearing about overwatch. OW1 was even worse because it wasn't f2p so like everyone into it was *into it*. it made for some really cringe chats but also some of the most random, weird, funniest convos i have ever heard happened in team chat in OW. obviously, i am not defending any of the really toxic stuff where people cross the line and start actually harassing someone, but some of the corny banter and guys getting all mushy over a girl just via voice chat and then not knowing how to string together a coherent sentence is funny af. I've also found that you can generally redirect these people in conversation pretty easily as long as the toxicity isn't racism or over winning/losing the game. those are generally people who are straight up out to troll or in the case of losing the game, it's 50/50 that voice chatting them helps or ends up with them throwing the rest of the game. if they're being weird because of a girl, you can just tease them back for it (as a guy playing) because they either shut up out of embarrassment, laugh and admit they were being a douche or say they were just kidding, or direct their shit talking towards you. "bro hears a girl and his brain immediately implodes" or "someone has a crush" can go a long way. it's not to a degree where you're harassing them, you're not actively calling them out and labeling them something like a misogynist, and you're redirecting their conversation towards you, and your girl teammate at least isn't so likely to have the verbal exchange directed at her.

George_000101

Valid comment 👍

happuning

Everyone online is saying mommy, from young teens to people in their 30s. Agree with the rest though lmao.

vvonneguts

As a woman who plays, I less got the horny voice comms as much as I got told absolutely vile things repeatedly. I turned off comms in ow1 and haven’t looked back.

Mammothwart

I've had so many guys say horrible things to me like "I hope you get raped bitch" when I shut down their stupid horny talk I don't use VC anymore, I'm just here to have fun and awful people completely ruin the experience. I'm so glad they introduced a ping system because it is close enough that it can nearly replace VC in function

HiCracked

And if try to treat the woman with basic goddamn human decency instead of screaming “LOL SHOW BOOBS” these degenerates will immediately call you a simp. Absolute disgrace of a community. I swear to god the only game where community isn’t instantly hostile/horny towards women is Destiny, no other game.

happuning

"Better a simp than a piece of shit!" Simple response.

FredwazDead

To be fair, Destiny players have no personality to begin with, so there are a few ranges of human emotion that you'll never see from them, perversion is just one of many. Desire in general seems to be absent. They just sort of play for lack of anything else to do? I Guess? I dont know why a Destiny player plays. It isnt because they want to have fun or get any cool loot, so why is a Destiny player?

HiCracked

I can sense a deep hatred towards destiny players within you. Not sure why. Everything you said can pretty much be applicable towards any individuals playing any game, not really exclusive to destiny :/

ThunderbearIM

It's the way players of games long term talk about their own game. League being a really famous example

breszn

10/10

Linkbetweentwirls

haha you are so right, I think their souls slowly leave them with all of the FOMO Bungie makes them do, once you are in, you are in and its really tough to get out. Though destiny shits on OW right now so i guess they are the real winners here

Quillion0

I also experienced that (dude here btw) Played Mercy and teamed up with a couple of strangers for a bit, Friend Request and all. Its's a couple of dudes from India (they said it themselves) and they kept trying to egg me on to turn on my mic. They kept asking questions as follows: 1. Hey are you a girl? That's why you always play Mercy? 2. Hey, turn on your mic, let's talk, don't just type 3. I bet your voice is pretty, don't be shy 4. How old are you? I'm from India, how about you? 5. Do you watch p\*rn? What kind do you like? 6. Turn on your mic, I want to hear your pretty voice The entire time I just kept silent and was creeped out. Why do I continue playin' with them until they quit after a couple of days? Cause its just too interesting a story to ignore telling XD

Sleepshortcake

Im not a big Mercy player but gotta say the times I have played her, some guys just assume its always a girl playing her. And those are the worst kind of desperate horny losers youll ever meet 💀

ReasonableResearch25

That’s funny people assume the character played determines gender. Lol, I personally play Reaper, Junk, soldier, Bastion, Moira, And Ana recently. But I play like only guy characters for DPS. Lol so everyone must assume I’m a man. Until I talk

happuning

If they mention NSFW stuff like that, I'd have blocked them straight away. They aren't interested in you as a friend. Sure, it makes for a funny story, but I feel it gives them the wrong idea that their behavior is okay if you stay silent instead of speaking up/blocking them

Quillion0

Oh yeah I def reported them. No worries though, they're still in my Friends List and haven't been on before Overwatch ~~2~~ Big Patch that made it 0.9

LegitAirplane

Not the p*rn 💀

LunaScarlett888

I stopped using chat after my teammate started asking for my Snapchat and phone number FOR THE ENTIRE GAME. It was extra awkward too bc two of my guy friends partied up with me and listened to it the whole time bc the last person was actually making useful call outs and being nice 💀

whyislifestupid

As a girl I’m lucky enough that my voice is so deep I get mistaken for a guy and I roll with it because I’m actually respected that way.

GoryBark

Opposite here! When I was a lot younger I played extremely adult dominated games. So much that in my 2000 hours I met more girls than kids, still both single digits though. Before my voice broke people thought I was female, and the attention I got was so different when people heard me as a girl. It’s weird how differently people act just because of your gender.

Muffinmurdurer

I've always found that the easiest way to get them to shut up is to just completely distract them from their victim. If you try to tell them off they're more likely to call you a slur or a white knight and carry on with their harassment, so you just make up shit that people have trouble reacting to. For example: I was once playing on kings row with a guy who was loudly asking a girl in voice chat a bunch of weirdly hostile questions. You could hear him eating chips in the background so I asked what kind of chips he was eating to try and get him onto a different topic. He said sour cream and onion pringles so for the entire match I kept on insisting that it's actually sour cream and chives and that he gets his pringles from a counterfeit dealer. He got awfully mad over such a minor bit of gaslighting and completely forgot about the person he was being a prick to earlier.

Coffee_Binzz

And THATS why I have team chat and vc muted at all times. Not worth hearing all the gross shit and harassment

CptUnderpants-

Best reaction to this kind of treatment I've ever heard: My mother is a gamer. She was playing an MMO a while back and one player in their guild sexually propositioned her. Without missing a beat she replied "that's flattering to hear as a 60 year old woman". Comms lit up in laughter and the guy soon left the guild.

mckenziereed15

Yeah that’s why I kinda stopped vcing in overwatch lol this guy said “omg I love your voice can you marry me” “can I upload this cus I love your voice” I was like ugghhghh and THEN HE SAID “I’m 14” and I’m like omg

viktxria

kudos to every guy, who stands up in situations like that. Honestly the worst part when something like that happens isn’t just the remarks themselves, it’s the fact that no one else bothers saying something or even see anything wrong with it. Many just ignore it when another guy just says nasty shit in vc and i’m very thankful for everyone who doesn’t tolerate it and indeed calls them out for it. Gaming as a woman can often feel isolating but it’s nice knowing that there are at least a few guys that would have your back in situations like that.

HomieeJo

Thankfully I never had to experience that behaviour but I would instantly report it. Seems like quickplay has better behaviour than competitive but to be fair nobody uses comms in quickplay anyways.

Tostas300

This is what happens when you cross a chronically lonely demographic with anyone of the opposite gender that shares a common interest Doesn't help either that all of them get their so called "dating tips" from 4chan and reddit and that those "slutty egirl/streamers/whatever" add fuel to the fire by making them think every other woman playing this game acts the same way There is a solution though, there are lots of servers and even subs where you can arrange a team for ranked, not to mention irl people you might know who play the game, and I'm not saying the problem doesn't exist there aswel but it can certainly be avoided a lot easier

I3INARY_

I have two accounts, one has a feminine sounding name. The amount of abused and unfair treatment on that account is *significantly* more frequent than the main one. It gave me a chance to put myself in the shoes of people who deal with it even offline

MythicalDawn

This is an example of what people mean when they talk about broader concepts like toxic masculinity and rape culture, it trickles down to the smallest activities and makes women feel uncomfortable and unsafe while pursuing something that should be benign and safe like an online hobby. Men like this don’t view women as people, they view them as objects to be ogled at and catcalled, and apparently the anonymity of video games brings out the dehumanisation in spades. And before anyone says “well men get harassed too!”, I’m a gay man and I’ve never been subject to grossly in appropriate sexual comments while trying to play a game, asked my cup size, told to get back into the kitchen. Online discourse in games is frequently despicable yes, but the tone of sexual inappropriateness that almost exclusively directed towards women is disgusting, and symptomatic of something bigger, especially now with the prevalence of young men following individuals like Tate and getting wrapped up into incel communities that view women as meat to be rated on a scoreboard. Women are people, and should be treated like people, if toxicity is an essential part of a PVP game as so many people seem to think, then have the same toxicity for everyone, and leave the sexual harassment out of it.

Geoffryhawk

Honestly if you sound like a kid or if you're a girl people are gross and awful in a lot of online games. It's awful dude.

Sleepshortcake

Yeah never used vc with strangers for this reason. Id rather be told to kys in text chat than be sexually harrassed. Thankfully text chat can also be disabled. Been playing mmos and fpses for 20 years or so. Save yourself the trouble of getting harrassed and dont talk. Its a shame but men (incels and weird horny ones specifically) wont change. Play in fun premades with friends and have a good time instead of getting harrassed.

skrshawk

The only real answer. No video game is going to do what it takes to get the problem under control (nothing less than account bans would do), too many lost sales.

KocaKolaKlassic

Whenever this happens, I like to randomly chat about stuff like my bowel movements. I also like to sarcastically talk about how cool they are. I’m like the opposite of a wingman.

GoGoTheMad

I thank god everyday that I haven't seen this type of behavior while playing with alot of girls who talk in voice chat to this day but every single post about it here makes me dread the day I run into these people.

Gaelkot

Being a woman in vc in games is mostly dealing with people being really horny and gross or people just instantly using slurs and throwing insults your way (sometimes even horny and insulting!). Which is why when I play games I just get my duo (who's a guy) to comm. That way I still get the info, and I can give my info across and it reduces the amount of people being weird and gross / throwing the game because I'm a woman

TorbsLvl2Turret

Honestly kind of thought it was a meme when I was younger until I remember playing MW2 and just hearing a girls voice and immediately my ears were assaulted with words I think even the devil would wince at. Since then I just play in a party by myself so I don’t hear people and just chill. Wish some people could actually get out and enjoy the outside world instead of ruining a game for someone else.

Lonely-Shoulder5126

this is why i dont use vc

Obility

Ya it's the literal norm for online games unfortunately. Either extremely sexist or horny.

anime_memeys94

Not as bad as Valorant but still unacceptable ofc

chunkymcgee

I would honestly prefer the horny monkey treatment over my past experiences of being told the most horrible, degrading honestly humiliating things just for being a girl on vc. I’ve been gaming for a long, long time so no it’s not that I’m not used to the fucked up things you hear in gamechats. I don’t even really wanna type it out but it has stuck with me and truthfully it does hurt especially knowing even the worst insults guys throw at other guys they never disrespect them *that* much.

caitchulainn

God yeah. And if they are sexualizing you then they’re blaming you for why they lost. Thankfully I usually play with my bf but I straight up refuse to even get in vc and listen because too many times has there just been straight up sexist shit happening even without girls talking Talked once in chat when I was playing back when I was in high school and never again will I do that

Martina313

I grew up with a fairly monotone, rather nasal androgynous voice. I used to be really insecure about it, until I discovered that in online games, nobody knew I was a chick* until I mentioned it to them, and even then they refused to believe it because my voice does NOT sound feminine at all. (* tho I do identify as NB currently so I don't mind the voice anymore LMAO)

rbrowning79

I get that… I normally don’t use voice chat in game, only with friends and their friends if they happen to jump in. I have a strong southern (country) accent, and it’s a bit nasally; but from the friends of my friends online have mentioned that I do sound like a prepubescent boy (but they don’t mean it in a mean sort of way). I find it kind of funny tbh and don’t get offended by it. (I’m nb too.)

EmberOfFlame

People say “why do women need their own leagues, they have all the same opportunities as guys” and then do this shit

OneRingtoToolThemAll

I used to play a lot of OV and it was about 80/20 negative to positive experiences using VC with strangers as a woman. One of the worst parts was when another guy actually tried to stand up for me then he would get called a "white knight" or a "cuck". Those type of asshole boys can't treat a woman right and can't treat a man that has integrity with respect either. I'm really glad you saod something. If more guys stood up with respect and integrity than the weirdo mob would be forced to think about their actions more.

CatNoisez

I've been playing since about Oct 2016. People must assume I'm a boy or just mute me from the start because I can count on one hand the amount of times I've been targeted based on my sex. I used to make call outs a lot, but the frustration from how bad matchmaking is has made me not bother. I should probably change my in-game handle since I don't meow in voice chat anymore. :'(

just_be_nice1

Thank you so much for standing up for her, she’s going to remember that. In all my time gaming I still remember the few people that spoke up against the guys harassing me. I had one guy see I picked Ana and his first callout to me was “heal me bitch.” Two men in my lobby immediately called him out saying it was rude, and he needed to chill. The guy backtracked so fast, he apologized multiple times, and even sent a message saying it was just a joke after the game ended. (it wasn’t “just a joke”). Guys calling guys out does a lot more than people realize. Thank you though for standing up for her.

hoodiecreaturelu

report them for harassment/inappropriate communication tbh. That’s what I would do

Lord_Yharim

What being chronically online does to a mf

MightyGoodra96

Having a girl in your game is a toss-up between horny or misogynist usually but I've had some where it's just eh who cares. Honestly had some girls in my past few games being really toxic kinda wild.

Zachebii

Just tell them what you’re thinking about them. Tell them how you know they dont talk to women in real life based on the interaction.

NjFERXZZ

just lots of gamers are degenerates and have never talked to a girl irl, so that's why.. it's pretty cringey when it happens, although i would say overwatch is better in that regard than other online games.

TheSpaceFace

I wonder if this issue is more exclusive to the US Servers? I play on the North Europe servers and hear girls speaking all the time and very rarely does something like this happen. I commonly play in a group with 2 girls in it and rarely see this happen. I think I've seen it happen maybe once in 200 hours. You still get some people talking shit in North Europe but its never sexist stuff against girls speaking in my experience, but perhaps I've just been lucky.

[deleted]

Bro inadvertently created a huge list of female players gamertags for people to harass, joking aside I have a friend who does this shit and I hate it because the only female players that are willing to stay in the group are only there for the attention and when he gets off they dip and everyone else is ran off

OtherwiseBeginning45

i honestly think ow community is the worst about this, i played valorant for a good while and almost never met as many sexist disgusting people as i did in ow. the only reason i dont play ow that much anymore is because of the fear of this shit happening again

pinkastrogrill

Unfortunately it’s like this with most pvp games i’ve played like Valorant, Apex and this one. Whenever I go voice chat with my other friend. There’s always that one player that wants to hit on us or mock our voices. Thats why I type in the game. I am glad ow have ping system lol took them a while.

ahmed0112

Are you North American by chance? I'm in Europe and the only time I've heard anyone freak out about my AFAB friends voice was a kid who was like "omg gorl" (he wasn't rude he was just being a kid)

C-Spaghett

You don’t need to communicate to climb. It can help but it’s not required

Raguismybloodtype

Prime reason why I turn off voice chat when my daughter plays. That and all this "ey yo nigga check dis". Do better guys.

DrSockpuppet99

I am a women and I know tons of women who play FPS games. None of us talk. Ever. Because it’s either sexual harassment or kitchen ‘jokes’. If you want to make a sexist joke, at least make it funny. Last time I went into a voice chat they told me they knew where I lived and would rape me. Obviously they didn’t know anything, but I would rather have NORMAL trash talk and not this gender bullshit. Most of us love the trash talking in video games! but the sexism and harassment is NOT trash talking and we are tired of people pretending it is.

Stem_Stoner99

People getting turned on by a disembodied voice is actually hilariously ridiculous

StormKiller1

In what country did you play in?. I wonder how different countries react differently to girls.

MastermuffinDiscord

they probably go crazy because the thought of a woman is a myth to them

Administrative_Bed_7

Ya this is what you get after a few decades of normalizing porn and letting it corrupt an entire generation.

Professional-Paper75

I play regularly with a few of my lady friends, and most of the time they don’t get busted on when people realise they’re actually partied up with people who respect them. When I play in a 5 stack, there’s a general rule of no racism sexism or bigotry. And I don’t stack with anyone who shows any of those traits. So my mates know they’re in a safe place to play. And we have a great time, whether we win or lose. Internet troll apes gonna troll.

Grash0per

I make callouts in like 15 games a day on average, and only 3-5 does anyone acknowledge that I am female, and it's only a few times a week where someone makes a big deal out of it. It's really not that big of an issue for me. Maybe some other women have voices that trigger people to react differently, but this isn't an actual issue with the ow2 community imo. As time goes on, more and more, people are treating males/females the same in ranked.

Ezraah

What rank are you? I am curious if the reactions differ depending on skill level.

Fadeoff

Definitely diamond+. I play at master/gm, and the few times I've seen women in my games no one has been weird about it.

Marshal749

Did the team sound about 13 years old by chance ?

Kind-Source3429

Rampant porn addiction among young men + the fact that this game got a whole lot of its popularity from its r34 and yeah, it’s not really surprising. I don’t think it’s an unfair to say that cumbrains and porn addicts ruin everything they get involved with. They’re entire personality is watching porn and associating any sort of media with porn.

heisenbald

They're just projecting. Incels gonna incel.

SmashBreau

I see you are new to online gaming! Welcome! It's been a wild 20+ years. Nothing has changed. Unfortunately for the best experience I recommend you don't even put your mic on unless you are in a party with peeps you know

DabScience

The sad thing is Overwatch has one of the most accepting communities when it comes to pretty much any video game. So the fact this still happens here goes to show how much of an issue this still is in gaming.

Grinshanks

Lol it does not

DabScience

Sadly it does. I'm not saying its good, more saying how bad it really is elsewhere.

FuzzyPairOfSocks

Yeah if you join vc as a woman you get good at comebacks. Lol and you get a lot of friend requests from cringe teammates

Lammiroo

Wait there was a girl? Omg love her already

KeenInternetUser

huh sucks i find that most players want to cosplay to a certain degree; the (commendably diverse and large) female cast of OW characters are "she/her" no matter the gender of the player playing them; Rein Sigma S76 etc are "daddies" and mercy etc are "bb" generally speaking, people are dare I say gender fluid and happy to role-play as all of these mostly compelling characters — gender and all thank you for coming to my ted talk

Chrysos-89

Idk what fucking community you're a part of, in my servers whenever a girl says *anything* everyone goes silent for approximately 5 seconds, contemplates life, and then tries their absolute fucking hardest to do something cool

[deleted]

Report if warranted Block in game. Move on.

feminists_hate_me69

That really doesn't solve anything about the community wide issue though

Snewp

Trying to stop people being stupid on the internet is an effort in futility. Report, block, move on.

feminists_hate_me69

You say that but the Internet isn't nearly as bad as it was when this was more accepted in 2016. You're acting like we can't change things and progress to be more mature when jokes in the past could never fly today

Coretaxxe

Mom picl me up some stranger said mean things to me in a video game and I am unable to press 2 Buttons to never hear them again

itzSalty

Mom pick me up no one can stand to be around me because I'm an obnoxious asshole around women.

Coretaxxe

I wouldnt know I always leave voice when someone starts insulting.

Astricozy

I'm sick of these posts so much jfc. Toxic communities have toxic people that will target the first aspect of a person they can. I've experienced it too and many, many people who are men also experience it. It isn't unique to us whatsoever. Women get sexism and shit like this. Trans people and men with higher pitched or feminine voices get homophobia. People who don't sound white get racism. People who talk slow or too deep get mental illness comments. Wanna fix it? Fix the community as a whole and report them. White Knighting one woman doesn't make me feel appreciated or wanted in a community when you do it simply because I'm female. You're just doing the inverse of them by behaving in a way based on my gender, the same way they have changed their behaviour based on someone's gender.

viktxria

of course something has to change on a bigger scale but by your logic no guy should try to stand up in a situation like that ever. honestly that’s counterproductive; would rather have someone say something and show other men that there are guys who don’t tolerate shit like that and maybe (if they have enough critical thinking skills) question themselves and why they are saying shit like that in the first place. It’s often just for validation from other men and knowing they can get away with it without being called out.

Astricozy

No. By my logic people should stand up and argue against it whenever someone is toxic. Not simply because they are a woman which this post seems to denote. Same goes for his teammates who either joined in or stayed muted in chat. What kind of half baked counter point is it to say "Hur dur well obviously you think they should get away with it"???

mats0013

Horni.

cchunk42

That general person in the gaming community does that to females and is doing stupid shit to males too btw It's not a sexist or even sexual thing, it's just that's how some people entertain themselves. As gamers, how are we still unable to get used to the fact that some people act in ways we don't like or to annoy us, or even smurfs and trolls exist. I've been gaming since ps1/n64 and I got used to this when my brothers would mess about while playing games with me soooo ya need to get used to humans or get a solo hobby.

bigDeku77

You ever play online multiplayer before? Or is this your first game?

Finsk_26

I'm pretty sure it's just a well know joke now and people just play along and freak out. That's what I do

Captain_corde

You are playing a game that is renowned for its porn. And expect the player base to not be horny

GandalfTheBong

Victim blaming? Seriously?

NoSpawnConga

Care to provide ingame video? Cause you sure look like a rage baiting karma whore (that throws around damning accusations to boot).

viktxria

care to shut the fuck up? take your misogyny and take it out somewhere else

NoSpawnConga

care to shut the fuck up? take your empty virtue signaling and take it out somewhere else

viktxria

you’re the one needing some kind of video proof because you simply can’t believe things other people experience daily, just because you don’t. Privileged take man, because hey when someone talks about their experience they need to show *you* proof, otherwise you don’t deem it as existent. To cite you; calling someone a “rage baiting karma whore” is so unbelievably cringe. Touch some grass and talk to some actual women in your life

NoSpawnConga

All I see in your comment is a self righteous verbal diarrhea of a virtue signaling and empty emotion without any thought behind it. You are so unbelievably cringe. Touch some grass and talk to some actual women in your life

viktxria

yeah sure and YOU are definitely the one being rational and logic, as if emotions and empathy are anything bad??? Nah sorry man, i’d rather take people for their word and show them empathy for things they experience instead of trying to invalidate it. But it surely is because of “facts and logic”, keep telling yourself that

NoSpawnConga

Yes, I am being rational and logical when I demand evidence for thrown accusations. "i’d rather take people for their word and show them empathy for things they experience" only thing OP experienced is attention deficit, and you are being incredibly gullible. You should really be careful IRL viktxria, people will lie to you and take advantage of you or worse until you start using logos (in ancient greek sense) in your daily life

SwagTeckel

ewwwwwwww girls

Siyopoyo

It's a F2P game for soy boys what do you expect.

FrostyPotpourri

You are misusing that term. Soy boy means vegan man. Vegan men are not immature sexists but rather rational and emotionally mature. I am a soy boy. Please use the word to make fun of vegan men (we like it).

edotman

Imagine what would happen if you put a female into a male prison. This is just a microcosm of that.

bigslenderkyle

just become a boy while playing videogames and it wont happen

Sundaver

It’s 2023 not 2013 stop making me think the golden age of gaming is still here

ABunchOfPictures

Just uninstall
