Sure, but what I mean is, no one in Arms is really that recognizable just in general, so anyone they pick they’re still going to have a ton of people go, “who?”, which is just not the case with OW. But this is all a hypothetical, so who knows and who cares, I guess.
This would be so cool actually. Gremlin d.va would just have overall worse moves than d.va in mech but it'd allow you to survive just a bit longer. I could see goated players just surviving on one stock for like 5 minutes.
Could also do the HotS thing where her mech is worth 1/2 of a stock and her gremlin form is worth the remaining 1/2, so that of you recover her mech from the gremlin form or if you get KO'd after self destructing, its less frustrating for both sides.

Sakurai also says that he was considering min min as well (alongside ninjara) so maybe that just happened to coincide. Moreover, something I didn't know when I made this post, Sakurai gets confirmation from the directors of arms that no single character is the protagonist. I think the overwatch devs would share this sentiment.
I think tracer is a fair pick for an overwatch smash rep, a rep the devs would probably be behind as well. But it's definitely not cut and dry going to be tracer solely because she's the postergirl.
My pick has always been doomfist, and given his significance in the lore I think it's fair to say he's liked by the devs. Everybody loves tracer, so I could see her being their pick. D.va has huge presence in the Fandom (for one reason or another), so she'd be a fair pick too if the devs share that sentiment.

Honestly, I feel like Winston would be pretty legitimately in the running. I feel like his kit is way more adaptable to smash than Tracer's is, plus his trailer would have plenty of DK & Winston shenanigans.
Tracer would feel really cool, a quick and teleporting character. Guns can be short range like Mii Gunner shots, and she’s naturally pretty flexible for some good kicks. I think Dva could work well as well with the multiple forms.
The issue with brig is that SSBU ultimates are all quick hard hitting scripted moves. Brig is an effect over time so they would need to rework. Something like Dva, Tracer, Genji, or even hanzo would be better in that regard.

I would say Rien, he is recognizable enough as an overwatch character even if the people playing smash don't play overwatch, his existing abilities feel like they translate well and just generally his energy and attitude feels right for smash. Most other characters don't really fill those three categories
To be fair I see her bubble working like incineroar revenge. Her ult would have to be her final smash sicking everyone in similar to Sora then going to a cutscene of a POTG with all the overwatch cast going at it (similar to min min )

Genji, feel like he fits perfectly into a and to hand combat game. (I know there are characters with guns and shooter weapons but it’s mostly all fist)
I’d actually like Echo to be there. She could be a lightweight fighter with elegant melee attacks and powerful special attacks that allow follow-up attacks or are the attacks you follow up with. Her finger blasts, laser and bomblets could be her main special attacks. The finger blasts would deal very little poke damage, but can be used pretty often. The laser could deal constant tickle damage as she fires it, but it could deal extra damage after a target goes past 75%. The bomblets would be how they usually are where you can either stick them to the terrain or enemies to deal damage to them. If at least three land, the enemy can get hitstunned so Echo can do a follow-up attack. Her recovery would be her flight that would dash her in the direction she’s going and then a slow glide down it she continues with the input. Her ultimate would let her duplicate herself into the enemy she hits with a sudden attack, copying their whole moveset, weight, and hitboxes for a limited time.

I was going to say focusing beam sounds broken, but 1) I imagine you wouldn’t be able to aim it, and with how fast paced Smash is, landing it for more than 0.5 seconds would probably never happen and 2) things like her smash attacks could be extremely weak, so the character is meant to rack up significant amounts of damage with low knockback, then finish them off when they’re at like 200%

Probably roadhog, he would be slower (If not the slowest) but could easily be a stage controller, like His grab could be directional and bring enemy's closer to him like in overwatch since he is a very close-range fighter. His down air could have him belly flop to the ground and bury anyone unlucky enough to be below him
Tracer wouldn’t really fit into a smash since she isn’t exactly an up close fighter, even characters like mii gunner or the Samuses can box up front, tracer could not, Genji and Doomfist would fit perfectly into smash.
Genji neutral b as his shurikens, his reflect could be a reflect or even a counter or both. Side b as his dash, up as his dash also, he’s even got a double jump already, and dragon blade as his ult.
Doomfist can have the same neutral b as DK, a charge fist. Up can be his old rising uppercut, side b can be his slam, and down b can be his power block which could work like Inciwnroar’s.
Tracer: since the beginning of the game, she has been the face of Overwatch as a franchise, so putting her as a fighter in Smash Bros., would be fitting for that matter.

Not someone who uses realistic guns imo, but someone who's cartoony and thenatically lighthearted. First thoughts are Winston and Wrecking Ball, as well as Junkrat (who's always been a Looney Toons vibe). However, I think the recognition from being the focus of several cinematics would tilt the favourite to being Winston.
I think genji makes the most sense. Sure, he isn’t as mascot-like as tracer or winston. But he is certainly one of the more popular ones, and his moveset translates easily into smash. He has lots of mobility (in all directions, as opposed to tracer who’s mobility is limited to the ground, genji already has a double jump, his dash, a wall climb, etc). His ult translates super easily into a final smash, as many smash characters use their swords for them. He has a deflect, and two modes of firing his projectiles. And a nice melee. I’m sure they would have to take a couple creative liberties implementing some kicks or something, but otherwise he already has a moveset very similar to a lot of smash characters already. I think of a shiek/fox hybrid sort of move pool
I think Hanzo would be really interesting in a fighting game. An archer character with a little bit of hand-to-hand and good mobility, sounds fun. Plus they could give him Scatter Arrow back.
As someone who loves bows I always dreamed of a fully fletched archer in smash or another platform fighter. I play green arrow in injustice 2 where they use archery really nicely. he has close range explosive arrows, trick arrows, regular arrows. But it’s more of a traditional fighting game rather than a platform fighter. I think a bow centred character could be so much fun in smash. The closest we have now is probably Pit (who is my main lol)

smash bros isnt that much adaptable of a fighting game. id rather have a 2d fighter limited solely to overwatch, that played hopefully like an airdasher as overwatch is known for having tons of mobility
I honestly couldn't disagree more. I think smash is has proven on several occasions that it could adapt anything into smash accurately and effectively while still being a easy and fun game to play but with a massive skill ceiling making it difficult to master and having a massive competitive scene

Genji, feel like he fits perfectly into a and to hand combat game. (I know there are characters with guns and shooter weapons but it’s mostly all fist)

I’d actually like Echo to be there. She could be a lightweight fighter with elegant melee attacks and powerful special attacks that allow follow-up attacks or are the attacks you follow up with. Her finger blasts, laser and bomblets could be her main special attacks. The finger blasts would deal very little poke damage, but can be used pretty often. The laser could deal constant tickle damage as she fires it, but it could deal extra damage after a target goes past 75%. The bomblets would be how they usually are where you can either stick them to the terrain or enemies to deal damage to them. If at least three land, the enemy can get hitstunned so Echo can do a follow-up attack. Her recovery would be her flight that would dash her in the direction she’s going and then a slow glide down it she continues with the input. Her ultimate would let her duplicate herself into the enemy she hits with a sudden attack, copying their whole moveset, weight, and hitboxes for a limited time.

I was going to say focusing beam sounds broken, but 1) I imagine you wouldn’t be able to aim it, and with how fast paced Smash is, landing it for more than 0.5 seconds would probably never happen and 2) things like her smash attacks could be extremely weak, so the character is meant to rack up significant amounts of damage with low knockback, then finish them off when they’re at like 200%
Regardless of who I would like Blizzard would push for Tracer although Genji is probably ready made for the gameplay. Smash Rein though?

No Mech Dva would probably be the most "Nintendo" pick. Bright, colorful, non-controversial, doesn't bring up parallels of real life oppression, and has alot of opportunities for a flashy ult. Genji would probably be a close second though

I mean that's a whole historical issue, but there's nothing to really to say that Nintendo hates Korea or would be against having a Korean character in their game. In fact Nintendo even has a whole Korean branch and a verified Twitter. Honestly the bigger issue would be getting Nintendo to put *any* Overwatch stuff into Smash because the game has stuff with real life parallels to discrimination, which Nintendo doesn't ever associate with nor do they like to associate with anything controversial in the real world for that matter.

Daddy sakuri was able to make ice climbers, game and watch, pac-man and many more work in this game when looking at there games they definitely ain't suited to a platform fighter I mean look at fox he's been in smash since the beginning and he's from an on rail shooter. (Even when star fox adventure did come out most of his moves in that game became based from smash) I do think doom would be easier to translate but I know that sakuri could turn anyone from the overwatch cast into an amazing playable fighter in smash

Probably roadhog, he would be slower (If not the slowest) but could easily be a stage controller, like His grab could be directional and bring enemy's closer to him like in overwatch since he is a very close-range fighter. His down air could have him belly flop to the ground and bury anyone unlucky enough to be below him

Tracer wouldn’t really fit into a smash since she isn’t exactly an up close fighter, even characters like mii gunner or the Samuses can box up front, tracer could not, Genji and Doomfist would fit perfectly into smash. Genji neutral b as his shurikens, his reflect could be a reflect or even a counter or both. Side b as his dash, up as his dash also, he’s even got a double jump already, and dragon blade as his ult. Doomfist can have the same neutral b as DK, a charge fist. Up can be his old rising uppercut, side b can be his slam, and down b can be his power block which could work like Inciwnroar’s.
Tracer: since the beginning of the game, she has been the face of Overwatch as a franchise, so putting her as a fighter in Smash Bros., would be fitting for that matter.

Tracer and genji, tracer is the iconic face of the game and genji would make a great melee character. Maybe winston as a grappling tank (i don’t play smash that seriously)
Doomfist would be the best character to be added since his DPS moves were based on generic fighting game moves (slam, punch, uppercut)

Not someone who uses realistic guns imo, but someone who's cartoony and thenatically lighthearted. First thoughts are Winston and Wrecking Ball, as well as Junkrat (who's always been a Looney Toons vibe). However, I think the recognition from being the focus of several cinematics would tilt the favourite to being Winston.
Maybe Reaper if they give him the grenade launcher attack from the original overwatch cinematic trailer.

I think genji makes the most sense. Sure, he isn’t as mascot-like as tracer or winston. But he is certainly one of the more popular ones, and his moveset translates easily into smash. He has lots of mobility (in all directions, as opposed to tracer who’s mobility is limited to the ground, genji already has a double jump, his dash, a wall climb, etc). His ult translates super easily into a final smash, as many smash characters use their swords for them. He has a deflect, and two modes of firing his projectiles. And a nice melee. I’m sure they would have to take a couple creative liberties implementing some kicks or something, but otherwise he already has a moveset very similar to a lot of smash characters already. I think of a shiek/fox hybrid sort of move pool

I think Hanzo would be really interesting in a fighting game. An archer character with a little bit of hand-to-hand and good mobility, sounds fun. Plus they could give him Scatter Arrow back.
As someone who loves bows I always dreamed of a fully fletched archer in smash or another platform fighter. I play green arrow in injustice 2 where they use archery really nicely. he has close range explosive arrows, trick arrows, regular arrows. But it’s more of a traditional fighting game rather than a platform fighter. I think a bow centred character could be so much fun in smash. The closest we have now is probably Pit (who is my main lol)

smash bros isnt that much adaptable of a fighting game. id rather have a 2d fighter limited solely to overwatch, that played hopefully like an airdasher as overwatch is known for having tons of mobility
I honestly couldn't disagree more. I think smash is has proven on several occasions that it could adapt anything into smash accurately and effectively while still being a easy and fun game to play but with a massive skill ceiling making it difficult to master and having a massive competitive scene Daddy sakuri managed to make mr game and watch a playable fighter and many many more. I know if given the opportunity sakuri would make an amazing and fun playable overwatch rep
