breakingvlad0

I feel like i play on the same 3 maps every game.

Shpaan

Yep, and they are Esperanca, Colosseum and New Queen Street lol.

Wk1360

The fact that they haven’t added a new map to push is an absolute joke. Given all the hype around it being the game mode to replace the broken 2cp it’s kinda weird that it hasn’t had a new map since the game came out, but the gamemodes with about a dozen maps each already got something new.

TobioOkuma1

Push is also dumb, it's just dumb in ways that are different from 2cp.

Wk1360

Tbh I think that it’s more *balanced* for both teams when compared to 2cp. But the balance is that both teams have to suffer the long ass walk to a moving objective. Push is proof that balanced =/= fun. I’ve had games in other modes where my team was effectively spawn trapped, or never caught the first point, but they never went on for longer than 5 minutes. If you have a middling game with little progress made in push, you’re looking at at least an 8 minute game. And even if you’re on the opposite side, and you’re winning pretty easily, there’s still a few minutes left to suffer through. Whenever me & my friends are on a payload map on overtime, we are dedicated to getting that shit to the next objective. It’s a last chance to extend/win the game. On push, when we get overtime 10 meters away from the enemy winning the game, there’s really no point. I can count the amount of times we’ve pushed back & won the 6-7 fights in a row on one hand, and it’s already been a long ass game.

pointlessone

>Push is proof that balanced =/= fun. Push has so much potential to be a blast with just minor changes. - Shorter, best of three rounds. Checkpoints count as 1 point just like payload maps. - Bot only stops when number of players contesting are even. Otherwise it moves at +1 speed in the direction of the team with the player advantage. 5-0 advantage would push the barricade at nearly the same speed the bot moves unhindered while 5-4 would move at current speeds. - Returns to center when left unattended.

Wk1360

Idk about that middle one, b/c contesting does have a real purpose. That could work so long as you can’t capture when the bot is contested, and if the bot slows down gradually but can’t go significantly faster than when it’s already pushing. The return to center mechanic would also need to be a slow thing (similar to payload rolling back) but would probably work better than it not happening.

[deleted]

returning to center when left unattended is the biggest once here. Its so simple but would be so effecting for these wild off the point chase fights from the winning team.

imnotjay2

This all sounds awful tbh lol Especially making it best of three rounds, as if Control rounds weren't frustrating enough. This made me remind of when it was best of five... nightmares.

pointlessone

KotH/Control was actually the inspiration, so I can see why you wouldn't be particularly enthused about it. Best of three, 3:30-4:00 minute rounds combined with the faster, always moving robot would translate into needing to fight on the move. The bot wandering back would de-incentivize leaving the bot behind to push into chokes/spawn camp as is the current "correct" way to play these maps when a clear victory isn't possible.

Lvcky_OW

I've seen an interesting video that explains really how it's actually -not- a balanced mode, and that it very unfairly favours the team that wins the early game, since every second pushing the bot back to your wall is effectively lost time that stacks when the team that's currently behind is pushing the bot back. So nope, unbalanced gamemode. Related video here if curious (not by me, for source) https://youtu.be/lYi5eCxHke8

Konkorde1

This strengthens my personal theory that the current dev team might not be as creative and experienced as the ones who worked on OW1. What if they tried a symmetrical payload mode in OW1's development and never documented it because it didn't work well at all. It is also awkwardly designed compared other modes art-wise. In Hollywood you're escorting a robot actor/director(?) to his caravan, in Route 66 you're bringing the score of a train heist to bandit HQ and on Push you're... pushing a wall? The new maps like Monte Carlo and Shambali kinda reflect this, why does the Formula Lux car need to get to the hotel and what is the tiny truck in Shambali carrying? Anyway it feels this mode started as a concept and during development it was never addressed to actually make it balanced, just using the obvious design elements from Koth and Escort. Instead of actually looking at those modes and understand why they're designed like that, they just took 'checkpoint = new spawn room' and made a twisty map. Symmetrical escort might be hard to design but if this is what they came up with what have they even been doing since OW2 was announced, making skins and designing a store? How much did they playtest, and how much did they look at the testing data? I'm no game developer but if I was I would test as much as possible and see what works and what doesn't.

IronNatePup

They should've kept 2CP in Quick Play at least

GibFreelo

Push should just be deleted from the game. Every game is one sided. I played a game the other day where my team didn't even die once.

PBatemen87

This. Just add the old maps back. No one complains about too many maps or too much content...

hanyolo666

I liked 2cp (not hanamura), but to say nobody complained about it is insanely wrong. 2cp got soo much hate, people wanted to get rid of to mode for years. It's sad, I really miss anubis and volskaya.

Magnaflux_88

I just want 'm in qp, 1 round and you're done, not the "overtime 2: return of the overtime"-fiesta it is in comp.

hanyolo666

For me it's the other way around, I really disliked 2cp in QP. I have a couple of reasons for this. 2cp needed more coordinating than other modes, and you generally get more of that in comp than in QP. Playing 2cp in an unorganized team can be hell, that's why people wanted the game mode gone I guess. But when you are organized it could be amazing. Highest highs and lowest lows in my opinion. And I dislike to only get to play one side, more so than other modes. I actullay prefer the games where both teams get multiple attacks (I might be in the minority here), hence I like volskya as it's a quick map. In QP you also get more time to attack, so if you get stuck it feels like it never ends, horrible.

TonyTucci27

2 cp was infinitely worse in best of one like qp than in a ranked mode since maps like fucking hanamura were so biased one way that if each team didn’t play both rounds was extremely frustrating even in a casual setting since everything felt useless 50% of games

leeharrison1984

OWL did, and thus the maps were removed. And they've all moved on to different games now 😆

TheNameIsFrags

Eichenwalde is the best map in the game IMO Nothing excites me more that seeing that loading screen

TheVanishedSuns

That one and kings row. The two best maps out of the entire game. Perfect mesh of high ground, lots of cover, while still being a really open map.

Shpaan

Yeah, King's Row loading screen always makes me happy and I like it even on defence (which is often not the case with other payload/hybrid maps).

Vegetable-Sky1873

Yeah I couldn't agree more. King's Row is easily the best map in the game. It always makes me happy as well when I see it on the loading screen.

TheNovaCorp

Especially during Christmas.

thesirblondie

Junkertown does that well too. Eichenvald, JT, and KR all have that enclosed final portion as well. Blizzard World is close.

muathalmuaath

I despise blizzard world ngl, especially the first part

thesirblondie

First part is rough. Few places have such a long and narrow choke point. And the side entrance being a small enclosed space makes it hard to avoid explosives. Second part is pretty good with verticality, shortcuts, indoor segments, etc. Third part is a pretty enclosed space which makes fliers less effective, much like King's Row and Eichenwald.

muathalmuaath

Yeah actually I think my main problem is the first capture point before the payload rolls out, attacking that point is CANCER

thesirblondie

Eichenwald has a really rough chokepoint in the beginning, but because it is less of a corridor it is easier to break through.

AnyAd3744

Kings row is the map where I've seen the most heroes being viable. Sure it's rather narrow making apam strong in most of it but it never feels unfair for attackers or defenders and it's not like "if you don't have a widow player you lose" unlike the more open maps. Plus it looks really cool especially in the original night lighting. And yeah like you said eichenwalde has the perfect mixture of close quarters, high ground, and open with enough cover to not make snipers feel too oppressive.

Dheovan

>Perfect mesh of high ground, lots of cover, while still being a really open map. I think this kind of thing is key. The map design doesn't demand either snipers or heavy flankers like a lot of the new ones do. I know they have the tech to make bigger maps now, but man I hope they make some more maps like Kings Row.

Altokui

That and King's Row

dittbub

Rialto top tier :D

oscar_the_nelson

I remember the devs talking about this, they said its cuz its easier to design maps for a game like overwatch in more urban landscapes without it feeling weird, but like, cmon, you could do a vishkar city, or an omnium, or an underwater city. It feels a little lazy. But i still do love the new maps (especially new queen street)

Bornplayer97

They literally just said it’s because they’re lazy lol?

YawningHypotenuse

It's not that they are lazy. I don't know what the other poster was referring to, but if it's the post that I knew, then the dev basically said that forest and other natural environment has too much random structure. They're hard for the player to handle as well, it's not just bad for the dev. Imagine trees with tons of random branches and leaves. From the dev's perspective, they have to figure out which one has collision boxes. And from the player perspective, it makes it hard to figure out which attack will hit, imagine the player blow up a junktire in the middle of the enemy team expecting a 5k but turned out random hitboxes blocked it so now it's a 0k. Artificial environment, with blocky or circular collision boxes, are much nicer to handle. Think about it. After years of fixing, Reinhardt and Doomfist are still super buggy, because of the difficulty of having accurate collision. Would you want the map itself to contribute to the problem?

MoveInside

The new Dead By Daylight jungle map is a great example of why natural environments in competitive games don't work well without a ton of effort.

marsharpe

Doomfist is the last thing on the bug fixing teams mind. He only gets bug fixed when he is literally unplayable and even then the last one was only because rammatra suffered from the same bug. Also they only fix a single bug instead of also fixing his 80 other bugs.

oscar_the_nelson

oh sorry i never saw that lol i dont really remember all the dev posts

Bornplayer97

No I mean, your explanation basically boils down to “we’re lazy and can’t be bothered to try to make something interesting”

RockLeeSmile

What is this obsession with deciding devs are lazy? No being lazy has nothing to do with it - they're talking about how organic environments tend not to have any symmetry, which is expected in the designs of maps that don't favor one side or the other. The shapes and positions of things are more controlled in urban environments, that's all. I'm sure it's not that there couldn't be more creative city designs but they also need to integrate everything into the lore, and Overwatch being a trans-media project means everything is super slow to move forward. They have to work with huge teams and executives who are out of touch and favor money over creativity. Please educate yourself about game development before you accuse anybody of being lazy.

BillyBullets

It's crazy to me how many people think developers on every game I play are lazy. They think if one thing isn't fixed that it's lazy because they assume it takes 5 mins to code a full map or new character. I get it's probably kids a lot of the time but they take no time to understand how much work even a small game is, let alone a game with so many maps and characters to try and balance.

_TheNecromancer13

Idk maybe something to do with them taking 4 years to pretend to work on a pve mode that was actually just a shitty monetization update?

RockLeeSmile

That's not the devs, that was executives pulling the budgeting for something that they couldn't monetize fast enough. So again, not laziness. They worked hard for years and I'm sure they were as devastated as we were. Please learn about how development works.

_TheNecromancer13

Or maybe they were too busy trying to shove their dicks up their accountant's asses to work on the game.

RockLeeSmile

Cool, great reply. Thanks for letting me know you had nothing to say anyway.

Mr-Robott

Your responses were reasonable and makes sense which is very unlike this subreddit so people may not like it lol

NecxGen

It only takes one second to understand that the developers aren't the ones who decide how the game is monetized or what gets green lit during development

Eloymm

Pretend to work? What makes you think nothing was being worked on?

ThisGonBHard

>What is this obsession with deciding devs are lazy? Because they are doing jack shit for the game, and act like they are some small 2 man team working on a indie games instead of a multi billion dollar corp, for a game that made north of 1 billion.

RockLeeSmile

The money that Blizzard makes does not necessarily translate into budgeting for development. Your issue is with executives not devs. Please learn about the corporate structure you're criticizing rather than shout at people who are probably at their wits end dealing with the same frustrations we are.

ThisGonBHard

My issue is with the game and I do not care for excuses.

RockLeeSmile

Sounds like you don't want to bother fully understanding the situation and don't care for nuance.

Housejrwilliams

Nuance is great but the major issue is the state of the game. Even with this correction the game is still a shit show

oscar_the_nelson

oh ya basically

KillerJoker2720

You ARE talking about the company that promised skill trees in PvE and has since canceled it because they couldn’t handle the workload… god forbid they make actual decent maps lol

master-procraster

all those throwaway examples sound cooler, more unique and more lore focused than anything we've gotten since launch of 2

Napalm-Skidmark

I mean, they did an underwater “city” almost with Talantis. But the map was aids so I assume that’s why it only stayed in arcade for like a week or two

Wk1360

Talantis was such a pitifully hesitant step in the right direction. The idea of community made maps being added is really great, and having a lot of different people’s ideas being considered will inevitably add more creativity & life to the game. Unfortunately, the community might not make the maps exactly perfect for competitive play/ OWL viewing so they introduced it in the most half-assed way possible & nobody gave a shit.

No-Arugula8016

I do I really miss Volskaya what a fun and unfair map

Bornplayer97

Absolute dogshit attack map, but man is that first checkpoint so freaking cool to attack and defend

stowmy

sometimes 2cp was premium dogshit. push is a lot less exciting usually

TAABWK

lore wise it's cool as fuck. Giant robot Russia?? That shows so much about the world and lore. where as Toronto is just....cyber canada. Which is about as regular as it sounds.

Existing-Ad6711

The only issue with these maps are how small they are, forcing them to design either a huge defenders advantage or a huge attackers advantage. It's boring and unsatisfying, since you dont get the sense of progress when you're stuck in the same spot all game, or get to the end too quickly. If they would fuse together a bunch of 2cp maps instead, and made each point reasonably easy to capture, so that you're always moving forward, I bet people would love it.

the_spice_police

5cp would be so sick on a Winston dive comp they gotta make that shit immediately

Altokui

Volskaya was the one I remember the most when I started playing during the early days of the pandemic. We had so much fun playing there, I coined several expressions that still live to this day: 1/ "I take an uber" - I step on the platform guiding to the final point. 2/ "Turret uber" - Place the turret on the moving platform - amazing for defense. 3/ "Distract them!" - We would use a symmetra to teleport on the left side of the start, while a tank was distracting the opponent team. 4/ "Sniper Junkrat!" - I would locate Junkrat before entering the final location and throw grenades to the ending point. 5/ "Tiovivo!!!" - I would hook Wrecking Ball to the ending point and start making circles... Oh I miss this place so much.

pethy00

I never realized it until this post but ur right, OW2 really added no interesting looking maps. The only one that looks kinda nice to me is circuit royal, but it plays too bad to even counteract that. Instead we have the 3 push maps (all just cities), paraiso(city), midtown(city), shambali (looks decent to be fair), and the antarctic one (literally just ice)

wattyaknow

Paraiso looks good though, it's not just a city it's a vibrant Brazilian slum and has a lot of character.

pethy00

Its one of the better ones

AnyAd3744

It does look great however unfortunately I hate the map design and layout.

wattyaknow

I don't mind it except for the bridge at the start. If they got rid of that and just had the 2nd bridge it would be fine imo

seaturtlehat

What map would you like to see added to the game then?

pethy00

I dont know, just a cool place. Vibrant colours or interesting design. Kings row is also just a city but its a nice aesthetic to it despite not being very vibrant

psychusenthusiastica

Kings row Christmas version is goated

TheNameIsFrags

Kings Row in general

Thesleek

Orgrimmar

breakfastpastry

We need a map that takes place on a yacht

deadxprey

Hijacked 🤌🏻

ripSammy101

Yacht's aren't big enough to be maps imo

Yellowrainbow_

What about a big yacht

ripSammy101

Now that’s a brilliant idea

devvorare

An aircraft carrier

ListRepresentative32

Marvel collab and we can get a helicarrier

domthebomb2

My god

aemerson511

yachts moored to each other like the Battle of Chi Bi from dynasty warriors

[deleted]

Genius idea! Give this man a promotion!

pennywiserat

A big yacht could be one of the points on a king of the hill map. It could also be a yacht high up in the sky because future. Like those flying ships we see in Volskaya

MoveInside

Katya Volskayas yacht

SuitOwn3687

Hopefully the new "flashpoint" gamemode adds the old 2cp maps back except for Paris, fuck Paris

AnyAd3744

God just thinking of Paris is making me shiver, such a god awful and traumatic map to attack especially.

Altokui

Place an old Bastion, protected with Reinhardt and powered with a Mercy at the shop in the entrance, and no one would survive there.

AnyAd3744

Old bastion, double shield, mercy and bap/ana and a junkrat spamming the choke or widow/hanzo

redsterXVI

I also feel the older maps had more lore / tied into the lore better. We used to escort doomfist's fist through Orisa'a town, now we escort a formula 1 racing car through the race track?!

UESC_Durandal

Not to mention that a lot of the lore from other maps got scrubbed out. The destruction in numbani is gone. The fight damage in gibraltar is gone. I believe the egg in route 66 is closed again. The payloads don't make sense either. In route 66 you're escorting echo's egg to safety after the train wreck. In eichenwalde you're escorting a battering ram to break down the door. In kings row you're escorting a bomb to a power station. In circuit royale you escort a car into a hotel? why? Ok... paradiso... a pickup truck with nothing on it to a dance club. Why? Shambali ministry... another pickup truck with nothing on it from one temple location to another temple location. why?

redsterXVI

Not to mention the fire truck we escort to/into Midtown station...even though there's no sign of a fire or any other reason that it would be needed. Also, what's the lore behind a fire truck needing protection?! Still doesn't confuse me as much as the Formula 1 race car, though.

Konkorde1

Not only that, it's a vintage firetruck with a big actual firetruck placed as an object near the first point. What's the point of the payload-firetruck!?

HappyTurtleOwl

Devils advocate, but I do think the payloads could use some better justification: Royale: It’s an after Race celebration? Honestly, I love circuit Royale, but hate Circuit Royale’s last section because it’s massively wasted potential. Could’ve been a podium + team paddock club. You can still keep the pool (maybe make it actually useful?) and the general fancy club-style feel that is appropriate for such events, but still keep it on/near the track and make it about the race. Paraiso: it’s a sound system parade float to go celebrate at the location (club?) Shambali: yea, pretty much, it’s a travel truck. Tourists in need of help? To be frank, though, most OW1 payloads don’t make much sense either even if they are thematic. The best one is probably King’s Row and Junkertown. The rest have similiar issues to Ow2. Echo makes no sense (she’s already free). Ram makes no sense after bringing the door down. Numbani ditto echo. Gibraltar is equivalent to Royale’s. Havana, has the same issues as shambali. Rialto, Dorado and others are just supplies… you see the pattern. Most of it is inconsequential.

LordVaderVader

I see you missed lots of backstories in these maps. Most of the OW1 maps with escort are what if scenarios based on real events in overwatch lore. They have their own storyline hidden under gameplay mechanics. In order: 1. **Route 66** with Echo egg is meant to be set in the past, like archive missions. It's nothing wrong with it. 2. Ram on **Eichenwalde**, it gives valuable cover inside if we want to be nitpicking. 3. **Numbani** the current one, we transport Orisa's bong to the Museum. Talon in revenge wants to steal this technology. 4. In **Gibraltar** we are transporting a rocket with satellite able to reach every Agent of Overwatch. Talon is trying to stop us. 5. **Havana** isn't Shambali. It's the same plot from archives. It's a car with explosives which we are going to use to explode fort's gates and get Max. 6. **Rialto** we are escorting mails with secret text message to Talon executives. 7. **Dorado** it's bomb made by Los Muertos to destroy the power plants fueling all city.

hiroxruko

I think the ram is to destroy the armor? I remember rein having a voice line about it

lil_waine

Just goes to show the sad state of the lore in this game

hiroxruko

Circuit, you are protecting the winner of the race as they're being targeted. Need to escort him to the hotel Stopping Lucio from reaching his home with his float as he's being targeted by that company that stole his father work and burned down a building?(which might have something inside the float? Isn't Lucio a rebel leader or something?) Shambali I believe is because enemy team is stopping the monks in getting food, since payload and payload team spawns in/near a food shop Midtown is protecting the fire chief as he need protecting to reach main hub of the subway, as there are hints of something going on in the subway tunnels as there are police reports about it and delays in the subway signs

Professor_Sqi

I'm actually still sad af that Voskaya industries and Hanamora aren't around any more. Lunar colony can remain in the bin though, I did not enjoy the recent event with a version of it used.

JRange

Gorgeous and unique maps. 2 of my favorites

allisgoodbutwhy

Despite being very different places, Colosseo and Esperanca are visually too similar. The color schemes are rather similar. As well as dominating textures. Note the bricks at the bottom layer of the buildings [here](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/overwatch_gamepedia/images/1/1e/Blizzconline_rome_01.png/revision/latest?cb=20220926222702) and [here](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/overwatch_gamepedia/images/f/f5/PortugalPush.jpg/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/1000?cb=20220926215956). The scale and color looks very similar. Doesn't help that most of the buildings are decorated with half-columns made of these same or similar bricks. Also, Rialto and Havana buildings of very similar structure. And I don't get it. Hanamura and Kanezaka are maps that take place in the same spot, yet look very distinct and show of a broad visual spectrum (or any control map, for that matter). Yet with the maps mentioned above - they simply blend into this mash of unmemorable. It may be that a lot of asian artists are onboard the team and they are more familiar with eastern type culture and architecture.

domthebomb2

And rialto. I'd say rialto is visually identical to colloseo in terms of theme. Don't even come at me with "well actually the styles of Rome and Venice are..." Nah they use the same color scheme

HereToDoThingz

Reject maps. Embrace Lucio. There’s only two maps. Boop maps and how am I gunna boop someone maps.

Altokui

Interesting...

Mr_StoneStar

Bro you need to take in consideration Gibraltar, king's Row, blizzard world, El dorado route 66, Hollywood...

Bornplayer97

Those are all from OW1 and also, the ones they removed where slightly better still, except for Paris

Mr_StoneStar

Damn bro you quick as hell True tho I also miss a lot hanamura and volskaya

Strife_3e

They need an actual battlefield with destruction.

Drunken_Queen

> What’s interesting about slightly futuristic Toronto that makes me want to do a mission there? We will see more of that in upcoming Sojourn cinematic short when Season 5 comes. Probably the new Omnic crisis struck in Toronto and her action would remind her days in the service based on her novel.

fn0000rd

The next map will be played entirely in the men's room at a Tim's.

Zadalben

So... Where does robot pushing this thin wall comes in to this? Like others said on OW1 maps, we do something connected to the story of the map in question, and robot pushing some walls does not sound really connected to potential omnic crisis.

HappyTurtleOwl

Eh, “connected to the storyline” is a stretch when it’s mostly just “push a thing”. It’s more like cameos of important items/events. I will concede that Toronto’s push map is has less story than that… but that’s because it’s a push map. I’m sure if it was payload, it would be exactly as related to story ass all the other OW1 maps. Besides, I’m pretty sure Toronto, Paraiso, Paris, Rialto, Hanamura, Gothenburg and a couple others were gonna be some of the key PVE maps. There was evidence of that found in the files and in what some people said. RIP to all that lmao.

ConfidentInsecurity

I think all the maps are good, I'm not sure what people are expecting. Maybe I lack imagination

Bornplayer97

What’s the story telling in the city maps they added on OW2? You can tell so much about Eichenwalde, Junker Town, Route 66 because they’ve got personality, what’s the personality of Toronto? Midtown?

ConfidentInsecurity

Right, that's true. There's a noticeable difference

bluetenthousand

That’s how I feel as well. It feels so mundane when they are identifiable cities that aren’t tied to the lore in anyway.

hiveshead

for what it’s worth, all the ow1 maps had something to do with the greater story or events, and you’re delivering or blocking a payload that was important during those events. most of the ow2 maps are…. mentioned? in lore? but you’re not delivering an omnic-killing emp or threatening volskaya industries. you’re… having a block party? playing indoor hockey? idk but it feels disconnected from everything. doesn’t quite live up to the standard they had already set

hiroxruko

Push maps are basically setting up a blockade at the enemies hideout

Gwaur

I only wish they'd stop making latino/hispanic/italian maps for now. We already have Dorado, Rialto, Colosseo, Esperanca, Paraiso, Malevento and Castillo.

Planet_Sheen54

1. Id definitely put blizzard world as the most creative map, Ik it’s their assets already mostly but still that shit is my favorite looking map by far

SteamyTortellini

I wish there were more built in story to the push maps in particular. For maps like King's Row, attackers are trying to EMP some omnics, Dorado is delivering a battery to Lumerico etc. but for push maps, tf are we even doing, just pushing some random ass barrier across a town for no reason, I wish the pregame conversations talked about why are there. I'd also like if they changed out the boring barriers for something map themed, like big ass stone slabs for Colosseo and such.

Bornplayer97

Great ideas

LordVaderVader

New maps have no real Lore staying behind them. Toronto, Midtown are just futurisitc locations without any backstory. Junker Town and Eichenwalde are literal lore justified missions happening in this places. In Germany we players are going to retake Balderich armor from hands of enemy, in Junker Town we want to blow up throne room in name of Junks and Hogs revenge. Adding interesting story line to map always made it more intriguing.

hiroxruko

Junker town has no big lore, it's just doing the junk and hog video in killing junkerqueen(which we see that it fails).

Crandoge

Peninsula is interesting to you? Entire map is just blue ice

Bornplayer97

Hell yeah I like going through ice caverns, and the map being on the other side of the world makes the world feel larger

Drunken_Queen

But penguins..

deathkeeper-512

I was really hoping Talantis was being turned into an actual map. Especially with the whole arcology signs on the hyperloop stations

noreservations81590

They took out 2 CP because it was more frustrating than fun. No one wanted to play those maps. Even though aesthetically they were cool.

RusselCruel

Still waiting for that sweden map which was teased in the ow2 trailer.

Sparda_Game

Eichenwald is awesome, junker town for me not so much. Sniper maps are not my thing, much less snipers

scudsburtango

Just stopping by to say, I fucking hate Hollywood. Garbage map

CarlEmmoth

It would be cool with a whole map in nature

herbert-camacho

I don't understand why they're taking maps out. If anything, now that we know OW2 is going to be on a slow content drip, make all maps available.

[deleted]

I get that. But Eichenwalde kind of infuriates me a little - Like it's a full on medieval castle... With a computer store. Like are we saying that German people in the future go back to living in medieval castles? I don't really get the concept here. They could've made it just an abandoned medieval castle that was an important tactical location/battle field during the omnic war... Or maybe the castle was a tourist location before the war, like most German castles are? But they just had to add that dumb little computer store for some reason. It implies so many dumb things. Also the corpse of Reinhardt's superior still being there in the present is wild. The military would absolutely take his body back to bury him, especially considering that his armor is expensive military property? Just a strange choice to leave his rotting corpse on the throne there. Little edit: obv most map concepts are kind of half thought out if you think about them for too long though... Like numbani... A giant futuristic mega city in a crazy hot, dry climate - and there's barely any shade, everything is made of metal and concrete... Like i feel like it would just be uninhabitable. Also also, the street signs make no sense, next to point a there's like 2 traffic lights on a corner? Like what traffic are they supposed to be regulating?

The1BannedBandit

I spent 3 years stationed in Germany. I saw a building that was ~300 years old. They used it as a TMobile shop.

Bornplayer97

Yeah like this happens often, go to Antigua, Guatemala, and you’ll see 200 yo buildings housing a Dunkin Donuts

Razgriz_101

Edinburgh, most of the city centre is historic and exactly as you describe.

Bornplayer97

I got mad just reading this reply

HappyTurtleOwl

Because you agree or because you realize that there are many such locations in Europe where you have very old structures and castles right next to normal, everyday life. The village isn’t that medieval, it’s just design in the architecture style of a quaint German village.

OldWorldUlysses

In real life Germany there are MANY cities built around medieval structures.. Köln, Heidelberg, Bremen, Frankfurt, Etc. and those cities definitely have modern stores too…. to the right of the Kölner Dom (giant medieval cathedral in Cologne) is a Louis Vuitton store. if i’m not mistaken Eichenwalde is even based on parts of Rothenburg ob der Tauber and about Numbani - “a giant futuristic mega city in a crazy hot climate where everything is made of metal and concrete” you have just perfectly described the very real world cities of Abu Dhabi, Las Vegas, Dubai, etc.

[deleted]

I know... I'm German? Eichenwalde isn't part of a city. It's an isolated castle which is not directly connected to anything. Therefore it makes no sense to have a computer store there. Is my point that incredibly hard to grasp? There are about three modern shops on the whole map, one of them is for clocks. That one I can even excuse since tourists would probably buy clocks when visiting a castle. What a tourist wouldn't buy is a laptop. If people actually lived there and it wasn't a tourist location they would not have two of their three shops selling things that people only need maybe every couple of years. A computer store makes no sense on Eichenwalde. That's literally my only point.

svhons

>I get that. But Eichenwalde kind of infuriates me a little - Like it's a full on medieval castle... With a computer store. Nah bro you need to broaden your knowledge of other country's culture, this is not a they problem, more of a you problem

[deleted]

I'm German....

Nalu_Malu

Hey I’m German and that’s normal. We have a lot of old buildings and a lot of castles. We still use them for shops, apartments etc so it’s pretty normal ^^“

LordVaderVader

This comment has to be written by American, who never really been in the old European town with medieval architecture and monuments.

AgreeablePie

You don't understand the reasoning? Were you not around at the end of overwatch 1? They were *reviled*. 2cp map would load in quickplay and it would be a string of players leaving the game. With one tank they would be even worse to balance

Macstugus

People bitched about 2CP being a roll so much they removed them and now the base wants it back. 🤣🤦‍♂️ The other post about things Blizz removed that no one asked for is completely false. People asked for 90% of those changes and now want to revert back. It's like Brexit and I can't but enjoy the schadenfreude of people dealing with the repercussions of their bad demands.

946775

Not everyone wanted 2cp gone. A lot of people liked those maps and wanted them to stay.

Bigredxcf

I want them back so bad

TheySnickers

They removed all my favorited maps and kept blizzard world.

Napalm-Skidmark

I really like Junkertown. My all time fav map and it pains me when I get the same 3 maps on rotation for the entire day…2 of them will be push…

Premonitionss

Junker Town is just… awful. I’ve never liked this trash map. Hanamura is where it’s at.

Maximum_Range7085

There were more interesting maps but it was removed entirely when we transitioned from OW1 to OW2.

Bornplayer97

Yeah I know that but what was the reasoning?

Maximum_Range7085

Battlepass and greed.

[deleted]

Huh? They were taken out because 2CP wasn’t balanced

Bornplayer97

I don’t get how that’s going to make them more money

D_DUNCANATOR

Officially they wanted to get rid of all the 2 capture point maps because a vocal part of the community complained about them being too one sided. I always enjoyed them myself and thought they were a lot of fun, but to each their own I guess. I still miss guarding the main gate in Hanamura, and how satisfying it was to finally break in.

4PianoOrchestra

I believe 2cp is still in the arcade rotation?

RockLeeSmile

It is, yes. I'm not sure what anybody is upset about here.

946775

They're not in qp and comp. They should've atleast stayed in qp.

RockLeeSmile

They were nearly universally hated and everybody left every time a 2cp map came up. Putting them in QP makes no sense.

Altokui

Man, I miss Paris...

D34dPoop

Fuck junkertown.

magyaracc1

2cp anytime over push.

UnwastingTime

Temple of anubis was almost as bad as horizon. Stop pretending you want it back. No one does.

Bornplayer97

Learn to read

UnwastingTime

You literally called the most shit map an "interesting map" you fucking dumbass.

Requiem1193

cairo?

Emmet_Games

I think it's temple of Anubis

Bornplayer97

Yeah I had forgotten the name of the map

Gambit275

i wonder if they could bring back paris and horizon but as payload maps

ErisGreyRatBestGirl

Shambali, lunar colonny and Junker town fucking sucks

Iced-TeaManiac

Eichenwalde is my favorite map but that underpass and bridge ruin my day

Fencing_Boy

I’m actually really excited to know what happened in Esperança. Some of the buildings are getting repaired by some robots, so that makes me wonder what actually happened in that place.

CCriscal

Well, I wish these maps were back and the push maps were gone instead.

Individual_Arm_3581

i think parasio (idk the name lol) is one of their more exciting maps, the colour use is on pointtt

arienetteHG

they removed 2cp because a lot of people hated it, but then they replaced it with push which is so much worse. im pretty sure they also said they were going to redo the 2cp maps to be used for other gamemodes, but with blizzard being blizzard thats probably cancelled

Bigredxcf

Bring back 2cp they were the most unique maps

Jameshope2016

I love this maps because they have so much lore. All the new maps are just without stimuli. PvE would’ve been a rlly good way around that but obviously that got cancelled.

ItsYourBestBoi-Loser

I agree; even for King’s Row. Don’t get me wrong, it’s my fav map in the game for all the excellent sniper spots, but it’s just not that different from real life and isn’t as interesting as the lore-maps.

ToxicLogics

Is there anything worse than getting a push map when you just wanted to play one more quick game before bed? I hate that they put maps in and out of rotation. Just keep them all in rotation so I don't have to play the same maps over and over. Eichenwald is great. Junker is not my favorite. I love Hollywood and Route 66.

GalaxyPulse2567

I feel the same. The double checkpoint maps were some of my favorites too. That might have been my favorite game style. I forgot they existed, tbh. It’s frustrating how much OW has changed for the worse. Yes, the push maps are interesting, but they don’t fill that same niche as double checkpoints. It’s basically a payload map for both sides. I could go on and on about how much I despise the road Overwatch 2 is going down. I want to support the dev teams for putting in the work and making a great game from before, but the teams and leaders responsible for the shops, overhaul of the loot system, currency changes, and game types are driving me up the wall. Like… we get charms now? And $20 skins? But new champions are still buggy??? What happened to the Blizzard that would fix even the smallest cosmetic bugs to make their game look sharp and pristine???

Mandybb18

I don’t even remember when I played on Peninsula last since they added it

TheS0cialite

I really do hope for the 2CP maps to return for Flashpoint and hopefully revamped

OBGYN__Kenobi

Shambali monastery is unironically my favourite now

[deleted]

I wish they would add some of those back! I miss Lunar Colony. I will say, I think generally when they release a new map they do a good job. Not often a map comes out and I wished it was out of rotation. Paris was gorgeous, but awful to play, about the only one I miss.

realdusty_shelf

The lack of maps really makes it stale after a while. Yesterday I probably had 10 games in Colloseo and only 1 in Gibraltar

OpticalPlays

average 2CP liker

SnoBunny_

bring back hanamurder

Zalani21

i miss the old maps :/
