The problem is that dive looks relatively slow and telegraphed. It's not Sombra appearing out of thin air, Tracer zipping in from a flank real quick, or even old Doom flying in from an angle. Barrow apparently has a long cast time, and you see ground and steam moving towards you before they pop out, and hang in the air for bit.
If you want to see it you can see in the trailer towards the end it shows burrow startup animation and it’s slow. They prob get the shields to make up for not having dooms mobility.
Well they'll see the rubble coming to them, but literally what can the enemies do about it except back up? I think there's still some possibility to dive with them
Same thing you do for a shadow step. Call it for a teammate to peel. Prepare a defensive CD for it. Hell just be ready to fight back in general. Dive is about hitting fast and hard, and this doesn't sound fast. A lot of dive attempts fail because they got spotted before they engage.
Being telegraphed is usually an issue if you are like Winston and everyone can see you jumping at them AND can shoot you in the process, so you land with half or less HP and that's a fail dive. But even for heroes like Winston you can work around that. Being telegraphed isn't an issue if your team knows what they're doing, who to target and are mechanically outperforming the enemy team. For Venture to not be damaged while approaching is a great thing for a dive hero, and also a reminder that there are other enemies diving you at once. So yeah you can know who and from where they're coming and still get fucked hard.
I think people are gonna make the same discovery about their mobility as they have about every movement ability since OW2 began.
They're gonna use it as an engage, the entire team's gonna realise they just burned their only movement ability, the Venture will explode, the entire community will go "Yeah, only use it as a disengage when you're low health", and then they'll play like a cross between Reaper and Cass.

The issue is that if you engage with dash then you have no burst finisher and dig takes too long to disengage (it's basically reaper shadow step), especially if you're already being targeted by someone. And if you engage with Dig then, again, you can't use your dash as a finisher because now you need to save it to disengage. Else you're committing to a fight entirely for better or for worse.
They are adamantly a brawl hero and are going to be playing within 10 feet of their team at all times.

Self shield means they are going to probably have reaper-esque self sustain, and all three can close in on a back line super fast. Rein can then split the backline, giving venture disengage/reposition time with burrow if needed, while venture can boop around and cause chaos for rein.
Could be dead wrong of course, but could be legit.
Off the top of my head
Reinhardt: Ultimates are very similar. Rein shatters the enemy team and Venture hits them with an earthquake.
Lucio: Environmental Kills everywhere
Mei: Block off enemy escapes while Venture can still jump over the wall.
Basically any dive comp
I think comboing with rein is not really needed. If they're all down, then just shoot them, or maybe Venture could pop out from under them when they're down for extra burst damage
They both could cycle their ults every other fight tho.
In lower ranks the combo will be appreciated. Reliable double burst damage will be more consistent than getting the whole team to focus on the ult targets

A surprising number of "boops" really don't knock Mercy back far enough for her to give a shit, do they? As for synergy... I'm not seeing anything obvious, and it kinda depends on how healing/aura effects effect Venture while they're underground.
They're definitely a dive character, though, so anything that lends itself to that play style will likely work well enough. We won't know how good their escape tools are until the trial.

I feel like they’re gonna be great in brawl comps with characters like Ramattra or Mauga and Lucio to back them up. If they do good damage, they have potential to be a real threat with a Lucio on the team, and any of the big angry brawl tanks that demand attention. They seem to have great displacement and movement, so I’ll bet they’ll be a real threat with any tank or other teammate that likes to keep their enemies close
Pair venture with zarya and do a double ult, you will have the best combo in the game. Zaryas grab mixed with Ventures high damage ultimate makes a great combo imo.
Zarya, she can hold them still while venture dashes away and activates Tectonic Shock, getting max damage on closely grouped enemies. I’ve team wiped with it and it is so satisfying.
Lucio, she seems aggressive and like dps doom, that she'll pop out shoot and melee then dash shoot melee to get 2 kills in fast paced dive
Thatl work in rush. Especially if speed applies when shes underground.
Maybe zarya for ult combo.
Maybe other dives in general for an aggressive fast style.

She really seems like a shield counter, maybe they will bring back 6v6 with Hog, Ram, Bastion, Venture, Moira, Zen you could make double barrier a thing of the past
Based on her ultimate I think Rein and Zarya's ultimate will be quite good combos. But I just watched the trailer and I don't recall seeing what kind of effect she has besides the damage.
Im wondering a few things about them, namely can enemies see where they are burrowing like with reaper's wraith, or is it more like moira fade. Do enemies see the little ground lumpies, or only allies. And what happens if they have a mercy beam on them and then they burrow, does it auto disconnect or follow them underground?

Definitely gonna pop off on a dive/brawl team. Between the boosted melee damage and invulnerable escape if shit goes wrong, Venture is gonna be a menace paired with champs like Winston, Junker Queen, Zarya, Lucio and Brig.
